Hitch 'n Post is my favorite feed store in Orange County. We have chickens and they have absolutely everything we need to keep them fed. I usually buy our wood shavings for the coop and the process is very easy. You buy it at the counter inside the store and then simply pull up to the back and they load it in for you. Just make sure the front desk notifies the people working in the back so you don't have to wait very long. ;) I like taking my kids there as well because they have an awesome gift section. If you were kids like horses, try to shop local and buy the super cute Breyer horse toys there! read more

This place was recommend by my daughter's riding coach for a replacement helmet. The service here was excellent and the ladies took the time to measure and make suggestions on the best helmet for her. We found the right one and at a great price. I have a real problem with this businesses communication process on Saturday I held a party for my Moms 100th birthday and wanted to add some fall to it. I call many party rental places and found all their straw bails where faux and did not suit the purchase so I went to what I thought was a reproable straw bail handler AKA Hitching'n post and feed, I might add have shop at in the past . I ordered 10 bails of straw to rent and was told if in good condition they would pick up and refund me 50%. I was so careful not to get wet or allow aniimals to get around them. On Tuesday after the big party, 2 young men came by and picked up the straw bails, all in great condition. I waited until Friday to see if they follow through with the refund only to be told they stopped that practice last year even though I was told differently. I wanted to let them know who I spoke to (email on receipt) only to be told she left the company a year ago. This was now both my pick up and del receipt. The answer was to talk to del guy I asked to speak to Manager. She is in tomorrow. My standard thought is that when we don't do our jobs correctly that plains fall from the sky and US Astronauts are stranded in space. WHY DO CONSUMERS HAVE TO TAKE THIS TREATMENT? Wanted to support a local business with some Christmas shopping. Went here after seeing good reviews on Yelp, but had one of the worst retail experiences of my life. Walked in to an empty store with two sales ladies. I asked if they had riding helmets, and I was looking to buy one as a gift for my daughter. I asked if they could help with finding her size. Instead of helping, they said they didn't accept returns or exchanges past 3 days. I noted that Christmas was 6 days away and could they make an exception. "No". Could we ask the owner to make an exception? "No". I asked if she could explain the differences in the helmets, and she gave a half hearted effort that lasted about 20 seconds and then she walked away! They made us feel so unwelcome, we left without buying anything. I really wanted to support this place, but will never go back. Unfortunately this is why everyone shops on Amazon. read more

So nice and welcoming! From the second I stepped in the door till the second I stepped out the door. The girls knew a lot about boots and helmets. I came with the knowledge of dropping some cash. I wish I dropped a little less, but it is all part of the fun when prepping the kid to start jumping. So to piggy back off that last part. We drove here to 1 support a small business. There is another larger store in OC that is "franchise or chain". I specifically wanted to support local. With that being said I know the prices are more. The girls moved fast, and were helping us quickly. yes they are young. But they are knowledgeable. I peeked at a few of their marketing materials. If you are within the area the delivery for hay n feed n bedding is free! Newport n Costa Mesa $10. This place has food, bathing supplies, tack, saddles and pads, boots, helmets, other accessories and TONS of cute trinkets here n there. I enjoyed my time here. I'll make the trip from HB again for sure! read more

Bought two large boxes of timothy hay and pine pellets for my pet bunny. The workers brought all the boxes and the heavy bag of pine pellets out to my car and were extremely friendly. For 1 large box it was around 7 dollars and for the 15lb of pine pellets it was 14 dollars. Overall I would say that it was a great experience and recommend this place for bunny owners that need timothy hay. They also had large hay bales of timothy hay however I do not have the space in my house for that. read more

I don't know what is going on this year, but I have an influx of flies like you wouldn't believe on my patio! They are on the grass, on the trees, on the herbs, the dirt, the cement, my dogs, my wine glass (the horror!!), ME - it's horrible! Every time I open the door to go out they come in - on Saturday I killed 10 flies inside of my house in a span of 15 minutes!! I read things online that I can do to get rid of them, I tried a few of the "natural" things and nothing was working. I read that fly spray for horses works. One of my friends owns horses so I asked her. She said the spray works great at keeping flies off her horses and she referred me to Hitch'n Post Feed & Tack. Off we went to find something that would get rid of the hundreds of flies! They have a large selection of sprays. We were trying to read them all and kept seeing "hazardous to animals and humans." I needed something safe for my dogs and safe for my plants - although at this point I was ready to let the plants die! I went and asked the girl working and she told me about two brands of spray that would be safe for everything. She also recommended a Quikstrike Fly Abatement Strip. Done and done. A little over $50 later we had a two pack box of fly strips and a spray bottle of UltraShield EX Insect Repellent. Came home and sprayed. Hung the strip. Went back outside 15 minutes later and there were maybe 10 flies that I could see. This morning? None. I can also put the spray on my dogs to prevent the flies from landing on them when they are sunbathing, which is awesome! Hitch'n Post was a little pricey. I have since found the same spray on Amazon for $13 cheaper. In the future I will use Amazon, but in a pinch this place was great! Plus it was really nice having a person tell me what products work rather than spending lots of time online reading reviews, hazards, and warnings. read more

I just moved my horse to the neighborhood, and this place is amazing. One of the sales associates greeted me while I was browsing,and couldn't have been nicer. I had some questions regarding digestive medicine, she informed me she did not know about this topic and would bring over the manager. The manager was AMAZING! So knowledgeable, helpful and kind. I will be coming here for everything!!!! Plus,there is a fabulous beverage machine that makes delicious hot chocolate. I have three children and my 2 1/2 year old is obsessed with their assortment of Breyer's. They were all so nice when we came in together. As a horse mom, and a human mom, this means the world to me. I've been to some other places where the hay varied greatly in quality between orders, At Hitch N Post it always looks fresh and green. You spent all this money fixing up the store, getting the right products in, having an incredibly wonderful and helpful sales team and all of a sudden you bring in a manager that is YIKES! not friendly, doesn't like anyone and really puts a damper on the whole atmosphere. While I get my grass here, I am afraid I will be taking my horse dollars somewhere else even though I love your new items. What happened to the corner feed store that you can come and sit a spell? My advise, word around the arenas is ...if you want to maintain your customers and get new ones, you might want to think about making a management change! read more

I like it - My old feed store by the Honda Center stopped carrying the potbelly pig feed my girl loves & carried a brand she didn't like, but tolerated. I decided not to be lazy anymore & locate a feed store that had the Ace Hi by State Milling Company - her favorite. My Daisy is back in business & is loving the return of her old food. This store had it & the staff was nice to boot. I will definitely be going back to them. read more

Seriously they are going more and more downhill. While I might not live in the area anymore, I still have my horse at PHEC that I'm leasing out and my sister is looking after. So as always, we still have standing orders with PHEC as well as calling once in awhile to have special orders requested for delivery. Like before, they keep running out of stock but DO NOT TELL ME. WTF?! If I ordered it to be delivered tomorrow, why would you not at least call and say "Hey, we're out of this item. Would you like something else, or do you want to wait until it comes into stock?" No, we have to wait until the next day to find out that it didn't get delivered, then call to find out why. And more importantly, if I have a standing order, that means I need it on a weekly basis, so it's even more important that you tell me that you're out so I can get it elsewhere. And when my sister and I went to visit the store a little before I left, so we could pick out some last minute things, we arrived 10 minutes before they opened. So we went and got a drink, and came back right at opening time. They still weren't open, so we sat outside drinking our drink. A few more customers came over, we were all talking and waiting, and it wasn't until 20 minutes later that they came and opened the door. Really? You open up 20 minutes late? And the girl didn't even apologize to the five of us waiting outside for being late. RUDE. I really don't understand what is happening to this place. Maybe it's the staff they're hiring nowadays, but this is no longer the place it used to be. Sad to say it's the only tack store around otherwise I'd be using another one already. Only benefit is that it's still the same delivery guy after all these years, and he still takes good care of us! read more

I went there to buy Timothy Hay. Their customer service is outstanding!! He was very helpful when I called for information about their hay and the quality of it. Today when I called in, a lady said that she'll call her hay supplier to let me know what cut the hay was. They go out of their way to help their customers, which I really appreciate!! They're really nice. The quality of hay is good too. Since I buy it for my rabbit, I store the hay in the garage and it lasts a good 10 months. read more

Friendly, helpful staff! Seems to be mostly a horse related feed store but they carry the chicken bedding I love, Koop Clean, which has been difficult for us to find! Will be coming back for more when the two packages we bought run out. Didn't really check out the chicken feed as we have plenty right now. I have purchased from the Hitch'n Post over the years for equestrian clothing/accessories and helmets. I stopped by last week for new riding pants for my daughter. Wow! the place looks great, super friendly woman who helped me out tremendously. I even had to bring the pants back and exchange them, no problem. We have been buying from this store for years, but have noticed a MARKED overall DECLINE in quality of hay, customer service, and delivery. Sad; especially when you try to buy local & support small businesses. We actually went to the store on Saturday to speak with the owner or a manager, but neither were there. The young girl working behind the counter said the owner would be in in about an hour & would have her call us. Well, it is NOW Tues, and still nothing. Ordered feed (alfalfa hay) for our horses & were charged for premium when that is not what was delivered. Last time, the quality was SO poor, I was actually afraid to give it to our horses. The time before that, the orchard hay was moldy. Third time is a charm. We will be shopping elsewhere. read more
