I am a long-term wearer (10+ years) of multi focal specialty contact lens. Initially, it took…read moreseveral appointments and many, many contacts to find the right fit, but my previous optometrist was a rock star at working though this process. And there was no upchage for this service. I recently moved to Baldwin county and needed to replace the contacts. So in doing my research for someone specializing in these types of contacts, I found Dr. Ferris-Metzger at Premier Medical in Daphne. The appointment went well and I provided Dr Ferris-Metzger with my previous contact vials which has all the measurements and sizing for the fit of the specialty lenses. I just needed to know if any of my distance / up close vision had changed and check the health of my eyes. Fast forward 4 weeks to when the lenses arrived and I get an invoice for 3x what Ive historically paid for the lenses (they are sold as 2 pairs to change out after 6 months of wear). I thought there has to be a mistake... the wrong type of lens was ordered or the technician wrongly ordered "2" sets (meaning 4 pair). I communicated my concerns with Dr Ferris-Metzger's technician and her response basically explaining to me how the lenses work, how they are sold and that this was the price. No new information to me and no answers to the questions I had proposed. At this point, I contacted my previous optometrist 4 hours away, to inquire about any price increases. They confirmed the price was what I'd paid previously (which was $600 less than Premier Medical) After that, I tried calling a business manager and was put in touch with the contact lens person. This went the same way as the previous conversations. No one appears to be interested in my honest attempt to understand the price difference at this place. And to add insult to injury, Dr Ferris-Metger had the contact lens associate inform me that I would be charged a contact fitting fee of $40 which I would have to pay before she would release my prescription (yes I asked for it as a matter of principle). If you will see above, there was basically no "contact fitting" because I provided my previous measurements. I now have an appointment with an optometrist in Fairhope. Their office confirmed that the price of the lens will be what I'm used to paying ($700) and I'll pay for another exam. But I don't think I have a choice. And yes, I absolutely love these lenses and understand that they are a premium product. But charging $600 more for the same lens I can purchase down the street is insane. Bottom line -- buyer beware.

Firstly, after arriving on time, I was not greeted by either front desk person in fact I was ignored. One I'll give the benefit of the doubt because she was dealing with another patient but the person next to her said nothing to me (At first, I thought it was because she couldn't see me but even after moving closer, she said nothing to me. Which normally id get over except for the fact that a lady walked in behind me and they asked her if she had an appointment and what her last name was and then continued to ignore me. Now the main reason I'll never return is the doctor. I took my son back and they were going to do the air test on his ears and asked me if he's ok with it. Now anyone that knows him knows he's not ok with anything touching his face hardly (he was in the NICU with cords all around his face for 42 days, so I don't blame him), weve been working in this in therapy and at home but it's still a work in progress. Now I don't really expect a doctor or nurses to know this off the bat (I do expect them to look at his records and see he's a premature, medically fragile, delayed child which well get to later) but I of course answered her that he wouldn't for the most part be ok with it. Now she was great she tried very hard to make my son relax with me but after seeing it wasn't going to work decided to skip the test to not make him even more upset before seeing the doctor, she was the only good portion of this visit. Afterward we were placed in an exam room, and I will say didn't have to wait very long for the nurse/doctor. A nurse entered and asked us a few questions and then told us to wait for the doctor. The doctor is my main issue, he came in asked me like 2 questions and then immediately told me to take my son on my lap and hold him. Didn't try and talk to him, didn't try and reassure him, didn't even really speak to him which I know isn't required by doctors, but it helps when you're dealing with scared kids. He told me to hold one arm across his body and one holding his head still which seems fine except as I stated my son hates his head being touched and as guessed freaked out. He's very strong for a 2 1/2-year-old and I have short arms and was worried my son was going to fall onto the floor. Not to mention his whole face was red at this point. What followed was a repeat of "you're not holding him hard enough, you need to hold him harder, no hold him this way, not this way, you need to hold his legs, no don't hold his legs just holds his arms and head, hold his head tighter" as I'm trying to make sure my screaming almost 3-year-old does not fall on the floor. At one point he told me that I was barely holding his head as I'm holding his head as hard as I'm willing to hold him without thinking I'm going to hurt him. Like sorry doc but I'm not going to hurt my child just so you can look in his ears. After him acting annoyed that I couldn't "hold him well enough", about 5 times, and my sons face is red and I'm 2 seconds from walking out the door he finally suggests we go to a different room with a chair he can lay down in and a nurse helping us. Why wasn't that a option sooner?? Why are we trying to scar my child for life about ear doctors? As we left the room, me trying to comfort my child, the nurse who asked me the questions, not the first one, from earlier passes us in the hallway to come help and says "I can't believe that sweet baby is acting like that"........Acting like what? A 2 1/2 yr. old that doesn't understand what you want from him and just knows people are holding him down. So, by then I was done with this place and couldn't wait to leave. He did much better lying down with help and they finally said he was all clear and we left. Some people may think I'm overreacting here, but I've seen good pediatric doctors, and this wasn't one of them. My son's pediatricians try to comfort him when he's upset and do a much better job at bedside manner than this doctor. I'm not saying he's not a good doctor, but he definitely won't touch my child again. He got so worked up and upset that we came home and he slept for 2 hours, he's had his ears looked at at his pediatrician's multiple times and never had a reaction like that so don't tell me how the doctor acts toward the child doesn't matter.

Several weeks ago I visited this facility to get information of the Respire device. I paid my…read moreinsurance co-payment. I spoke with M. Jackson for about 15 minutes. She reviewed my latest sleep study and told be I was not eligible for this device. No tests were performed or other medical services. Lo and behold I receive a bill for an addition amount the said the insurance didn't cover. I spoke with the insurance company and they told me that they had paid the the allotted amount. I could have seen the extra charge if some medical tests or other procedures were done. So they tried to get more money for nothing. I have been to many "specialists" and only paid my co-payment and never was billed for more. I have a Medicare Advantage plan. Even if I had qualified for this device, I wouldn't have this place to it - they would probably over charge.

On my visit, the doctor visited with me for less than 2 minutes and I had little time to describe…read moremy sinus issue. I was given a prescription to a pharmacy that more resembled a health store than an actual pharmacy, for them to mix up a powdered concoction for me to mix into a saline nasal rinse solution. It took 2 days for this pharmacy to have this concoction ready. After a few days of using this powder mixed into my nasal rinse solution, I developed a terrible upper respiratory tract infection, which was a listed possible side effect of this concoction. So, I ceased using it. Then I was scheduled by this office to have a CT scan of my sinuses. I called multiple times to cancel this scheduled CT scan, as I had one performed on me not long before then by my pulmonologist. I wanted to instead bring the ENT office the results of that scan. But this practice NEVER answers their phone. And when you leave a message, they do not call you back (except once). After what was probably a couple dozen attempts to contact them, and leaving multiple voice mail messages, they called back one time. But I was at the other end of my house and did not get to my phone in time. I called back immediately, but again, no answer. And no call back on the message I left. Then the day before my scheduled CT scan, I was sent a text message to either confirm (enter 1) or cancel (enter 3) the CT scan. I entered 3 to cancel. I assumed I was in the clear on that matter. And my proof is still stored in my phone. But it did not matter that I hit 3 to cancel, as my next bill had a $50 'no show' fee added to it. But they will have to take me to court to get that $50 is all I have to say on that.
