This is an update to a truly horrifying experience regarding a dear friend in the final stages of his life. I posted regarding the experience, and was given a generic response about contacting them if I wished to discuss the matter further. Why would I wish to discuss the matter further, since it won't do any good? Just look at the ratings of this hospital. Look at how many dissatisfied people are posting and receiving a generic reply. How about insisting nurses treat their patients with care, compassion and empathy? How about giving mandatory in-service classes regarding these valuable traits? it would go a long way towards building trust and comfort-particularly for terminal patients and their families. If it had been up to me,he would've been removed from the premises immediately after having requested pain medication for him, and being told he was going to be given Tylenol. It was known that he was in agonizing pain. It was known that his cancer had metastasized. He was agitated and in terrible distress, and it was all traded very cavalierly. What is Tylenol going to do for him besides nothing? 45 minutes later, there was still no sign of the Tylenol. As I stated before, this is unacceptable and absolutely disgusting. To top it all off, his nurse was told twice his catheter had become separated, and bodily fluids were leaking all over his bed. While she twice acknowledged she was aware his catheter was leaking, she made no move to fix it. Whatever happened to common decency and treating others with dignity? For context, my mother, sisters, and myself all worked in hospital settings for years. I have never seen such egregious disregard in a hospital setting. I was referred here by my GP. The office is spacious, clean, and comfortable; reception is pleasant and professional. Dr Vyas is the first endocrinologist and one of the friendliest, most informative doctors I have met with. She was very thorough looking through my records, and asked great questions. Having a physician listen to you is very assuring. I l gained a deeper knowledge of hypothyroidism and my own numbers, and what it takes to manage it better. I'm encouraged to move forward with her recommendations. read more

I went to Hoag sand canyon yesterday for MRI and XRay. It's a joke. The place is under complete remodel. The parking is a disaster. You have to go in through a different building then weave your way to the right one. There were power saws, nail guns and a multitude of construction workers walking through the medical areas. They were having walk throughs for groups, irritable staff and mass confusion. Today I tried to get my results on my chart. Good luck. When I called hoag I just got the run around. California law states they must provide the results by way of electronics such as my chart as soon as completed. The staff always argue about it. I had to send a letter to the state last time. This review is for Hoag Newport Beach and Irvine Sand Canyon Offices. I recently relocated to Irvine and sought out Hoag doctors. What a mistake. I set up about six different specialists in Irvine and Newport Beach Hoag Office at Fashion Island is where I got my first sour taste of their medical group. Newport Beach treated me like a number with my PPO. My GP office even went so far as to say only one question/issue per visit. Does "where is the bathroom count?" Yes, don't ask. Then I went to the Irvine Sand Canyon Hoag Hospital for another appointment with an Ortho Specialist. I was not told beforehand that I would not see the doctor but rather a NP AND at the same rate - really? More money for HOAG, Hoag wins, ca-ching! I left unsatisfied from that visit with the options provided and the inability to ask the doctor questions I had. I asked to reschedule the meeting and they agreed but that it would cost another office fee ($600) for the consultation. I asked to speak to the Office Manager, and she echoed the same, would need to pay for another consultation with the doctor I originally set an appointment with to begin with. I declined. Got values Hoag? Ah, no Hoag, MONEY is not a virtue. HOAG IS A CORPORATION FOCUSSED ON PROFIT NOT ON PEOPLE. This is evident everywhere I turned in every appointment I had in the first few weeks. If you want to see Hoag culture at a glance, walk into any of their offices or medical units and look in the eyes of their staff and feel the energy in the facility - it will tell you everything you need to know. Don't eat 8 hours before your visit, just sayin. HOAG HOSPITAL NICKLES AND DIME YOU. It's shocking that everywhere you turn at Hoag its about doing what's right for them, ITS NEVER ABOUT THE PATIENT. Needless to say, I have cancelled all my appointments with Hoag and WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND HOAG. read more

Today was my meet and greet with Dr. Nazary and I was so pleased with my appointment from beginning to end. The new parking structure was easy to navigate, the front office staff was very welcoming; the wait was about 2 minutes as soon as I checked in. Dr. Nazary was so professional, caring, kind and knowledgeable. She really took the time to chat with me, educate me, and get to know me on a medical and personal level and addressed all concerns needed. I was told it would just be a meet and greet, however, she was able to do a quick physical and provided referrals and said there was no need to come back to the office as she knows I'm busy. Which I am! I'm so grateful for my experience today establishing care with Dr. Nazary. I felt so comfortable during my visit. She is highly educated and I highly recommend her as a Hoag provider. So so disappointed in Hoag Medical Group and Dr. Councelbaum's office staff. In September 2022, I scheduled a first available new patient appointment for May 24, 2023. In October 2022 while in Dr. Councelbaum's office for my husband's new patient visit, I asked the front office staff to move my May 24th appointment to June 5th. Today I received an email to check in for a May 24th appointment. I called the office to tell them I had changed my appointment to June 5th. I was informed there was nothing in my chart to show I had changed my appointment to June 5th, that there was nothing they could do to accommodate me, and that the next available new visit appointment was in March 2024. So after waiting 9 months for my appointment, I would need to wait another 10 months. Avoid this medical group at all cost unless you're OK with dealing with incompetent office staff and waiting 1 & 1/2 years for an appointment. I myself, will find a different medical group, one which treats their patients with respect and dignity. read more

Dr. Serag is simply the best primary care physician my spouse and I have ever seen! Caring, kind, responsive and a great sense of humor! Her recommendations to needed specialists are equally top-notch. We lived 40 years in Boston and received excellent care at Mass General Brigham- a medical giant- but Dr. Serag is hands down our very favorite! Lately we both have had some significant medical concerns, and thanks to her we are both doing well. read more

I figured I should update this because I didn't mention that previous review wasn't my regular doctor. Dr. Niak was my primary when I lived in Orange County and she was honestly the best doctor I've ever had. She would suggest other treatment and look for options before using or depending on medication, which I really appreciated. She approached my issues with trying to find ways to solve, rather than just bandaid them. She was also an incredibly good listener and you could tell she genuinely cared. When she heard I had a miscarriage she called and left me voicemails checking in on me and making sure I was okay. She is an incredible doctor and Hoag is lucky to have her. read more

I went to see Dr. Serag for my annual check up. Nothing crazy just my annual. However, this place doesn't have the capacity to do anything in house. They send you to different labs for simple blood work . Since The labs that they send you to are not associated with Hoag, they have their own separate co-pay. That you have to pay out of pocket. I received a bill for a blood work co-pay which I thought was an error, now I'm in collections. I recommend going to a doctor that has the capacity to do everything in house and get you taken care of all in one shot. Pay one co-pay, instead of multiple ones due to incapacity. I also hated having to wait so long for Dr Serag to help me for five minutes, just have to go somewhere else to wait again to just get my blood taken. Never coming here again read more

Let me start out by saying I love Dr. Serag. She always spends time explaining everything and has a very quick response time. The front office staff however, are very short and even rude. And when I directly asked her to speak to someone she told me "you have to contact corporate " when I asked for that info I was told she did not know it. Attention to billing than patients! My wife had some emergency and visited this place as it was closest to our house. They claimed she needed to be transferred to a different facility as this facility did not have means to treat her. They forced us to use an ambulance and we waited for another 20 minutes before the ambulance took her to the other facility. We could have driven there and reached there faster. The nurse claimed that if we drove there, the insurance will reject their claim, so we need to wait. Then we got billed by ambulance $2000 which we had to pay. This was ridiculous. After reaching the Huntington facility the Doctor didn't even see us for 2 hours. Never going there again. read more

I chose Hoag for my medical care because of their reputation. But when you can't get a doctor's appointment for 2 months? And when the doctor takes over a week to get back to you with a referral? And when I can't even find out if they're going to authorize a prescription refill? My opinion of Hoag now is they they operate just like any corporation. I guess I need to find a doctor who cares about patients, not one who is just a cog in a major corporation. Very, very disappointed. read more

After dealing with too many condescending, negative, shaming doctors, it was great to have found Dr. Choi! She answers all my questions, she's in no way rushed to get me out the door. She's encouraging, optimistic, and seems to really care. She's very knowledgeable and seems to stay on top of the latest news and research. She is measured in prescribing medications and knows you shouldn't always just throw pills at the problem. Best of all we're making progress! Her assistant is warm and friendly and the front-office is professional and cheerful as well and I have never had an issue with billing. read more

This review is with respect to the billing department. Absolutely the worst experience of my life. Even though we don't have co-insurance, they still expected some portion of the bill to be paid up-front. Fine. (No other Dr. requires that for an office visit, but whatever.). Then, never received a bill (this is back in June 2019) for the remainder. In June 2020 we get contacted by a collections agency that we never paid the bill. I'm very particular about paying all bills as soon as I get them. I call Hoag in June, they agree that they never sent us a statement and they aren't sure what happened. I tell them I want to get the bill, I'll then pay it and we'll get it cleared from collections before the 30 day period so that my daughter's credit doesn't get hit (my daughter was on my insurance in 2019). Call them back a couple of weeks later and the bill still hasn't gone out. I just pay it over the phone so that they can contact collections. They say that they will and also tell me that they sent out a billing statement. Never received the billing statement (to this day). I was stupid and assumed they would actually contact collections. In August my daughter gets an alert that she has a delinquency on her credit report which impacted her credit score. She's just getting started as an adult and now I feel horrible. So, for the past two weeks I keep calling Hoag who keeps telling me that they "sent the request to pull it back from collections" but the collections agency tells me they haven't been contacted and we go round and round having to wait a week between each call for anyone to do anything. All this while my daughter's credit score has been impacted (thankfully she's not applying for credit right now). And... I did absolutely nothing wrong (even Hoag billing admits that). I've probably spent 3-4 hours on the phone trying to clear this up... all for about $100. Absolutely ridiculous. I would stay away from the entire group. We like the doctor, so that's probably keeping us here... but if you're looking for a new doctor, it's not worth the billing nightmare. read more

Dr. Serag could not be more supportive or knowledgeable. This week was my fourth appointment over the last year and each time the appointment has been easy to schedule, I did not wait past my scheduled appointment time and I was very satisfied with the care I received. I've seen a few doctors in this medical building and have found the location to be very convenient. It's right on Sand Canyon off the 405, and parking is plentiful. The view from the doctors' offices is gorgeous, too. The building itself is a bit old and could use some updating, but overall it's a great place with great doctors. read more

When we arrive here the people that works here give us everything they have with care, a smile, a supporting hand, a warm blanket , a joke to regain faith in life. While Dr. Kazemi is very nice be aware of their billing. Her front office people need training on insurance. I was told that the services provided would be covered under normal plan coverage and it turns out it was out of my deductible. I have been trying to sort this out with the Dr.'s billing department and they are awful. They absolutely don't care. They are like robots. So before you see this Dr. make sure you check with your insurance as to what is going to be covered. Its not worth the hassle. read more

A medical emergency occurred while my mother was visiting from out of state and she needs to stay here to recover. Now in a new state and at 95 no network of doctors who know her. Because she received such good care at Hoag we looked for a doctor in the Irvine Hoag group. We chose Dr Mercedes Tomioka because she specialized in geriatrics & spoke Spanish. What a wonderful find !!! Patient & so considerate and concerned. We feel we have found a doctor who is not only thorough but also caring. She offered referrals to handle special issues & followed up to inquire how Mom is doing. So happy that she is caring for my precious mother. read more
