Pros: Huge selection of everything. And miniatures (dollhouses), which no other hobby stores have. Woot! They also have a lot of home goods-types of decorative things. Cons: Their sales ARE NOT ENTERED INTO THE SYSTEM. This means that the register associates must freaking memorize what's on sale every. Single. Week. This means that the lines are slow as people point out what's on sale and the associate looks up the items. I mean, this is 2016. Why can't this be automated? I feel bad for the associates. The person on the phone says regular hours, so she shows up there at 9AM. Then at the door you are telling people that only people over 60 are allowed in at 9AM. Well then that's not regular hours. Awesome place if you're into hardcore crafting but I was extremely overwhelmed when I came here for the first time. I couldn't find what I was looking for (ribbon by the yard) and when I finally found an associate to help me, she just looked at me and said, "Fabrics." When I asked where "fabrics" were, she replied rather shortly, "In the fabric section." Well duh. However, this is my first time in the store and I have no idea where the fabric section is. If you like rude employees, overpriced items and long wait times at the register, then this is the place for you. Be prepared to find what you need all by yourself. Employees are non existent on the floor, except for the one at the only cash register open, with a line of 30 people deep. If you do find another employee, they will be busy with pallets and restocking the shelves. They are stressed and have no time to help a customer. It's nice Hobby Lobby hires blind people to work. You could stand in front of them for hours and they don't see you. If you do get their attention, make it quick. Especially if you want spray paint. It took an act of Congress to find the one specific employee who has the store's only key, to unlock the sliding glass cabinet door. When another employee finally tracked her down, she marched over in a huff, unlocked the cabinet, then folded her arms acting as if she'd been standing there for hours. I asked her specific question and she snapped at me saying, "Yeah, I really don't know the answer to that. How long are you going to be?" I replied, "Are you kidding me?" To which she said, "No. I have to get back and I can't leave the cabinet unlocked." I couldn't believe what I was hearing, and tried to hurry, picking up cans and reading to see if it would be compatible for my project. I then said "never mind" to which she slid the door shut and locked it in 5 seconds and took off. She is pale,skinny, dark hair, glasses and around 30 years old. I have shopped there on 4 different occasions and every time I go to check out, there is a line of 30 people waiting at the only register open. The cashier is also in charge of answering the phone. So she has to stop what she's doing,, answer the phone, place them on hold, then goes in the PA saying so and so, you have a call on line 1. Lots of time nobody picks it up and it gets rerouted back to her. I don't understand why they have 6-8 registers but only one is open. read more

Absolutely love this store!! I think it's cheaper than Michael's and has way cuter items. I was looking for girly, classy items to make a diy makeup brush holder and decorate my new vanity and I found everything I was looking for and then some!! Went to store in La Mesa, Ca today. Had my Hobby Lobby App open and coupon ready at checkout counter. The young woman scanned my phone and said the coupon wasn't good, it must have expired. The expiration date was September 7th and today is the 6th. I told her that the coupon was not expired, even showed her the date on my phone. She said the coupon on the App didn't work. Done. This is definitely one of the biggest Hobby Lobby stores that I've been in and it's well-organized and great - definitely a lot of stuff to get through and see! As a crafter, I love looking through their section of fake flowers, fabrics, and art supplies. There have been times where I didn't feel like waiting 2-days for my Amazon prime to get to me, so I've gone looking for specific things in Hobby Lobby and have always walked out with them. I'm planning to take a longer look at their fabrics sometime soon as the ones I saw were really great. Perfect for the cosplays that I've had in mind bahahaha. The nice thing about Hobby Lobby is that they're always sending you coupons, too! In another comment someone mentioned that it can be tough to find an employee on the floor and I agree. I think the reason why they're so scarce (at least when I go) is because they're all manning the registers and trying to make the lines go as quickly as possible lmao. I love Hobby Lobby, and this store has such a good selection, but I must say that the service in this store could use improvement. I didn't even need any help in the store, I only purchased one thing, and I was treated as such a nuisance. Cashier had an attitude as I tried to help her locate the price on my item. Then the employee cleaning at the front of the store exasperatedly told me to use the other door to exit, as if I was supposed to know that. This experience just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Love the products, I'm wondering why the Customer Service Manager has no people skills. I returned 3 out of 5 pictures I bought at one time there. One of the items did not have the proper tag ( it looked like it came from Home Goods or TJ Maxx). I did indeed buy it there and was charged for 5 pictures. I was surprised when the cashier pointed it out. She was very nice. And I got it. But I did buy it there and she offered to have a manager to check it out. Again, nice. The C/S manager came over, stated "not ours" and walked away after giving " the look" to me. I didn't even get to reply to her. A great location! I prefer it here to Michaels and wished this store was more convenient to me so I could come more often, but my bank account is thankful I don't come too much. This store is more than a craft store. It has a ton of home goods as well and is perfect for holidays; there are always so many different decorations to pick from. The prices are comparable to other craft stores with reasonably priced items and some expensive items. Went here with my wife and mother in law. Was horrified by the customer service. Beth and Jenny were in the flower section and they were badmouthing customers and dropping the "F" word like it was nothing. I mean get over it some people are a mess and rude however it is your job to clean up the store and help people. Your not being paid to help us not gossip like a high school girl. We love this store and are here all the time but after seeing that I will try Michael's first from now on. I understand many seasonal employs just dont care but for hobby lobby to allow such unprofessional is upsetting and needs to be addressed. Only giving 3 stars as overall...based on checkout alone it would be ZERO stars! I love the variety and amazing selection here and have shopped lots of times. I was having a great experience here today until checkout. Prior to checkout though I had gotten amazing help at the fabric counter. I wish that I got the ladies name as she was great. Lots of ideas and several questions were answered by her. I found many great Christmas items on clearance too. I was amazed how much was still left. The checkout process ruined the end of the trip. Not only were the lines ridiculously long but Esmeralda who ended up checking me out was horrible and rude on top if it. She missed the majority of items that had that were on sale. Then when I mentioned to her that they were she questioned every item even after I showed her them on the flyer. She was rude even after they were on sale. It was beyond frustrating. Then to top it all off after everything was rung up she was out of fives so she had to ask for change. This would have been fine however I then pulled out exact change and she still made me wait for the manager to return with the fives. She couldn't figure out even after I explained nicely to her to give me back my $20 since I was giving her the exact change. This is my FAVORITE PLACE EVER!!!! I have been waiting for a Hobby Lobby to open since I don't remember when. This is like Michael's on Crack. Way better. Nicer Items. Nicer People. WAY BIGGER Selection. I wouldn't recommend going on the weekends right now just because it will be super busy since this place just opened and it is now the rave of San Diego (for those who don't know what hobby lobby is). And if it is super busy, DONT write a poor review about it. Come back when you have more time on your hands. And Likewise, don't write a poor review because they are not open on Sundays. Hobby Lobby is a wonderful place. You need a knob for a cabinet/drawer? There's a whole aisle dedicated to that. Various forms of adhesives? There's an aisle for that too. Hobby Lobby is a super organized store with so much to look at. My last visit, I got a good deal on artwork with each piece 40-50% off! Never had any issue with service, every employee that I've talked to have been really nice and helpful. As with Michaels, the golden rule of Hobby Lobby is "Thou shalt not go without a coupon!" Yes, they have a mailing list, but check out their website instead for their weekly deals. I got a 40% off a fully priced item coupon. I especially liked that I didn't have to print it out since the coupon provided a code to give to the cashier, I just pulled out my phone and showed her the code. Super easy!
