With the downfall of Party City, I needed to find a new place to buy balloons for various celebrations and work events. Let me save you the trouble - DO NOT GET HELIUM BALLOONS HERE! The balloons will fall to the ground in under 8 hours. Whereas Party City balloon bouquets would last a week a more, these sad, pathetic, under inflated balloons were picked up at noon and dead by 6pm. After speaking with some other friends and coworkers, all of us have had the same experience. I have a hunch that Michael's is mixing O2 with their helium to try and save money. Sad. Absolutely will not be going back. Dollar Store is better! read more

All the employees at this location have been great, but in this review, I'd especially like to give particular kudos Corey in framing. We came in with a an old framed photo that we needed to change out the plaque that was on it. The previous framer, from many years ago, taped and glued everything together. We thought we could make the change ourselves, but the previous framer made it like Fort Knox and we couldn't really take it apart without destroying parts of it. We were also in a time crunch for this, so Corey was great about going over our various options with us and letting us know what he thought was salvageable from the original framing job. He was personable and easy to work with. We were able to come up with a plan, and he let us know it would be ready the next day, which was way better than we hoped for. All in all, a great framing experience. The price was also very reasonable, which was great because I work for a non-profit. read more

I loved Michael's- the friendly service- the helpful staff- the cheery woman at checkout who would help me with coupons and tell me where to find things. Those days are past. The store feels lifeless- hollow- as another big company has traded in people for profit. No smiling checker asking, "Did you find everything you needed today?" Nope. Just a solo worker who points to the "self check out screen." Michael's Corporate- I am disgusted with you. People need people more than ever. We are desperate for kind human interactions with a smile- not another isolating "talk to the screen" experience. Did a curbside pickup today. Only received 2 of the 10 items I ordered. Waited in the car for 20 minutes before the person came out with the bag. Called the store three times to see why they hadn't come out with the order yet and no one answered the phone. I never received an email, text, or call about the items I ordered not being available. The person who brought the order out said it "was not her problem and that it was online order fulfillment's issue." I ended up going into the store to see if I could find replacement items and saw 4 of the items I ordered available! It wasn't busy, so there was no excuse for how long it took to bring out the order or for not answering the phone. Do not trust this store for ordering ahead for curbside pickup or good customer service. read more

Terrible. I placed a curbside order and nowhere in the emails. The app or anything like that notifications didn't say that they do not do curbside pick up after dark. I understand the reasoning for their safety, but you gotta let people know. So they won't elect for curbside if it's after dark. And then when I call because that's exactly what the sign says to click on the link in your text message or email I clicked on the link in my text message and it takes me straight to a link where I unsubscribe. So I give them a call because nothing is working after I tried numerous times to let them know that I'm outside and then She tells me that they don't do curbside after dark. Completely understandable how about you let your customers know. Then they won't elect her curbside. If it's after dark then they will elect to come inside and then you won't get a phone call from Me stating that I'm outside ready to pick up my order. And then when you're on the phone because you don't let anybody know that you don't do curbside after dark you act like a see you next Tuesday. Customer service should never be the reason why people give you a bad rating or a reason to not come back. Control the controllables. Your attitude is something you can control. read more

This is THE most chill Michaels. I love it because it's located in a quiet strip mall in La Mesa, so there's always tons of parking, and it's not as crowded as other locations. This Michaels also has really talented staff working in the framing department. I had a print framed a few years ago and the woman assisting me was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It was such a great experience! (Pricey-- even with the 50% off coupon-- but SO worth it. It gave new life to our print and made it a focal point of our house. I don't go into this business very often, but I was having lunch at the weevil burger next-door and thought I would stroll in and take a look. Quite impressed with the cleanliness and the layout of the store and of course it's Halloween season. After looking at a lot of items I decided on Animatronic that was on display. There were no more under the table so I asked what I believe to be a manager for assistance and she went into the back room and installed new batteries in it and demonstrated that it worked and sold it to me for 40% off the retail price. I love art supply stores. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. The reason is much of their inventory is for decorating your house and not art supplies. Also trying to find someone to help you there is difficult. For the art that I do, drawing with pencils and colored pencils they don't have much selection at all. They have few large pencil sets in stock and they do not offer single replacements of pencil brands such as Faber Castell or Prismacolor. They also do not sell mechanical pencils or leads. The drawing paper is quite limited. So unfortunately not a store for me. I think if you paint and do needlework you may have more luck. Service depends on who and how many are working. People are helpful, except for the cashiers, and they have to put my number in a dozen times before they get it right, all the whole whole telling me they don't have my number. I do really like the artsy girl there at the register, she actually does art. She can answer any questions, and has suggestions I have on my way out. Joanne's coupons do work better for you, though. I personally like this location. They have a great selection of items and the store is quite large so it does not feel cramped when walking around. Employees are very friendly and if you give them the opportunity they will tell you about the coupons you can use for your visit. I went in planning to use a 40% off coupon on one item and the cashier made sure to tell me I could use that coupon as well at the 25% off my entire order coupon. I personally think that is great customer service and makes me want to come back to this location. Since this location is out of the way it is never too busy which makes shopping here more pleasant. The outside of the store is looking a little run down and it is in need of updating but other than that this is a great Michaels and I will definitely come back when I am in the area. read more

The 3 star review for this location sounds about right, it's average - nothing more, nothing less. We came on a Sunday afternoon, and it was PACKED, with about 10+ folks in line waiting to pay. The cashiers could be a bit more efficient, but it was not horrendous. Compared to the Mission Valley location, this is probaly a notch down. I love that they have a wide selection of posters, and frames. The other PRO about this location is the huge parking lot. In this location, you are shopping with the locals who live in the area, but in Mission Valley, you're shopping with folks who enjoy strolling through the mall. That should tell you something about the overall traffic of the two locations. read more

I come in here from time to time to get odd items like hot glue sticks or plain gift bags to decorate. Today I needed cupcake boxes and thank you cards. This is a good store to pick up inexpensive thank you cards. My son goes through a ton of them. We get 8 packs of them for $1.50 each. It's a curse being as cute as he is, people are always giving him things! I try not to wander around the store too much and get distracted. This leads to extraneous purchases. My son, however, always ends up finding something anyway. Today he found a Batman Lego sticker book. Ugh Michaels, why do you have to carry these things? I mean, sure he shops with his own cash, but then he bores ME with tales about ALL of the characters. Thanks Michaels.. Service here is always friendly. I've never experienced the long lines other yelpers have lamented about. I guess on that score I've lucked out. Today when we went to check out after I paid, my son went next. This store is kinda crazy. Sometimes it's bad and sometimes it's great. I've come here twice in the past month. Once I brought my daughters in on a Friday evening. Apparently the kind of people who go to craft stores on a Friday night are stressed out highly dramatic sorts of people. The cashier led me to a cabinet to look for a fabric marker. When we walked back, a woman had come in cutting in line to make a return. She said she'd bought a scrapbooking tool two other times that day and each time it was defective. At that point, I wanted to ask her why she thought buying the same tool a third time would make it work. At that point I would return it and buy a different thing altogether. Why waste money? But I felt bad for her because after all, I'd be PO'd too if I had to come back there three times in one day. Then two other heavily tattooed rockabilly type girls said they had to be helped next because the cashier had refused to go back and unlock something for them. These girls began yelling at the cashier, and the cashier agreed to take them ahead of me though I'd also waited in line. Now I could have said they were all cuckoo and made a case for me going first, because I'd waited in line too and their problems were not mine; but I felt sorry for the cashier, who for some reason was there ALL ALONE fending off hordes of angry women. I felt like if I spoke up I was going to have to get in an actual physical fight. Thus, I figured waiting wouldn't kill me, so I took the Zen approach. Is a freaking CRAFT worth flipping out over? Anyway, I've been loath to come back out of fear of having to throw down with other craft-crazed loonies, but sometimes you need supplies that only Michael's has. Yesterday I went in and there were tons of people stocking supplies. This one girl helped me find my items, price checked things for me, and also cashiered. True this isn't the Mission Calley store and it's smaller. But when I'm at my daughter's I come here. It's quick easy no traffic and great parking. Tonight there was a good amount of people shopping, but everytime I asked an employee where something was they stopped and took the time to help and always with a smile. I like that still. Not alot of customer service like that now a days. Just make sure you have your rewards and coupons loaded up on your phone when you get to the head of the line so everything goes faster. This was a pretty good location. Adam and I came here in order to get some supplies to do Christmas crafts. There are a ton of different options for every craft you may ever do and all of the crafts and supplies are at different price points so everyone can craft. Adam and I found absolutely everything we needed for our crafts and some more that we didn't need but got anyways. I was in need of getting some help finding more of a particular item and the staff members were so incredibly helpful and kind in finding those items. You can also always find coupons online to save yourself some money. You can just go to their website and pull them up and the cashier will scan the coupon on your phone. Went in last night looking for decor with my g/f. I did not know this place has all of this stuff. If your the type of person that likes to be "hands on" then this is the place for you. I even saw materials to make your own hat. This store is kind of over crowded and unorganized to me, but I guess if your artsy then you'd be in heaven here. I've never seen so much Halloween crap in my life, I get it's a holiday & all but is all this stuff needed.
