Oh boy, where do I start! I'll start with the good. I was in the other day and the dude behind the counter was very polite and packed full of knowledge and was able to answer all my questions and then some. He was extremely helpful, and I was able to get everything i needed with him having to run to Google or a computer to figure out my issues i was having. i learned alot about what i was asking. I will definitely be going back and speaking with him if need advice or more parts. Now the bad! I went in last week to see the guy that helped me prior and he wasn't there (maybe a day off) the girl behind the counter with jacked teeth (mind you i waited 45 minutes for her to get off her personal phone)she was not able to find a simple part and when I asked her for advice on an issue she went straight to Google and and someone else. Another customer ended up jumping and answering my question due to her lack of knowledge. If I decide to go back in to that store I will turn around and leave if the knowledgeable guy isn't there (hes a new guy but definitely knows his stuff) Definitely don't go to the portland store because it's ran by a bunch of monkeys and they never have anything in stock. read more

Says online they carry several things including Magic cards and other like goods. I went in there to see such wares and the store only catered to RC and model hobbies. I will admit there were some nice rc cars there and model collectible items. As though there is not a whole lot of other cards shops in the area finding out this place had some I wanted to check their selection out. It is sad but I read all the reviews and you are not going to find better service elsewhere. I am not knocking the employees or customers but a lot of the time there hands are tied with computers the way they are and with the distribution chain. Also they don't have massive free time to go investigate parts orders. However the store owner should consider it his or her job to stay late or go in early to make things right and make the important phone calls when needed. Employees nowadays are lucky to get an UNINTERRUPTED lunch as required by law let alone a ten minute break. I'm new to RC hobby world. Been retired for 3 yrs and got excited to purchase some new stuff. The store looks like a hobby of the owners, not a bad thing, looks like they have fun running their business. I went in to look for RC airplanes or jets but found next to nothing. The store seems like they're trying or have phased out most anything involving planes. If you're looking for cars, maybe boats, this looks like a place you should check out. The help was friendly, just didn't have what I was looking for. I will be going back, no matter how good a pilot you are or have become remember this, planes crash, and usually into unrepairable pieces. read more

From Glen F. A lot of times I have come in to this store I have been ignored when I had questions or had needed help due to timid employees who clearly did not 'want to discomfort shy customers'. Good communication skills need to be stressed. In recent years a lot of N scale model railroad products have not been kept supplied. I am appalled that the rail joint packages are no longer seen here which had caused me not to ever come back. Many months ago when my Thunder Valley N scale locomotive and train set quit working, my caregiver took me in here to have the track pieces and set looked at. The woman here at the counter actually did do an excellent job at being helpful in despite of the busy scene here. I was told that she'd have to call this specialist out at the Happy Valley Hobby Town USA store to come on by the following weekend to take a look at the Atlas Atco locomotive that I had to see why the power was no longer going through. When I returned the following Thursday when I came by to pick up the set I was told by the same service attendant that the locomotive didn't have any technical problems. That it came down to the power pack after it got the diagnostic. Which had to be replaced. I in April had ordered a brand new power pack from the Bachman catalogue. And that whole price including our obnoxious sales tax and postage and handling had all came down to $64.00! I tried it out on my Thunder Valley train set and still the power would not connect to the locomotive to get it running again. I was told therefore it was the rerailer that was no longer working so in May I had spent $24.00 at ordering a brand new Bachman rerailer. When I received that part I added it to my set and still no power came through. I wound up spending a total of $88.00 for train set parts that did nothing to get my set working again. Why was I told to buy a brand new power pack only for me to find out the hard way it solve the problem. I could have been told to simply go and buy a brand new Thunder Valley N scale train set for $169.00 with that money I wasted on ordering those 2 parts. Its just like all the other rip offs I have had this year with the appliance repairman and dentist. I won't be coming to this store for help any more. I'll know better in the future to when anything stops working to just buy a brand new of the same product. read more

Customer service and store policy is trash! Bought a boat for my kid, used it once and my kid didn't like it. Packaged it up in all its original packaging and tried to return it within 2 weeks of purchase. Wouldn't accept because he can't resell it, so if you buy something make sure you don't use it because whether you like it or not you're not getting your money back. Ill keep it factual. First time here and i was testing it out sold me a battery told me i can return it if the packaging was neat, receipt, and within the 15 day time period. Well i had issues with my battery acknowledged the time frame and met it with all the requirements. Then Bridget says "we dont do returns on batteries." (Back and forth Discussion inbetween about how i was explain a wrong policy) Politely i told her, "i will never shop here again, I appreciate your help" So my understanding is that their employees don't fully understand the guidelines to the return policy, so if they mistakenly explain it to you and you purchase the item ITS ON YOU! Clerk said I couldn't use the $7 off coupon advertised on the HobbyTown Facebook page at this store. I was confused so I decided to place the item back, but as I was leaving I was met with a condescending "Have a nice day" by the same clerk, that was nice. Ended up driving to the Happy Valley location and before the cashier even rang up my items he asked if I knew about the $7 off coupon. I asked if the coupon was store specific, I was told no. Even though the Vancouver store is closer to me, I'd rather drive the extra 25 minutes to Oregon in order to avoid the BS. They have a 15 day from purchase "warranty". But the "warranty" only applies to anything that is new/unopened (impossible to determine if product is faulty if you can't open it??) and does not apply to any electronics (95% of the store). The older lady was very rude and making excuses to blame us for the faulty battery they gave us. The younger girl we bought the car from was far more knowledgeable and actually owned the product we bought with her own money. I would not recommend this store, maybe the happy valley location is better. But as far as customer service, it was shit, I'd recommend Remote Control Hobbies on Halsey in portland over HobbyTown Vancouver. read more

Went to this Hobbytown with my girlfriend who was trying to find a particular item for her modelling projects and not only did the staff (one man, one older woman sitting in the middle) not know what they were doing when we asked if they stocked or supplied any metal machine mesh (as they do have a significant area dedicated to raw metal supplies), but then my girlfriend was just casually misgendered by the older woman. Definitely a hostile and unfriendly environment, plus the store was only half-stocked with the back-half still with empty, unsorted shelves. Huge selection of plastic models, gunpla, and other remote controlled goodies. Staff is super helpful and they will order anything you need if they don't have it already. I really like the layaway option they have, keeps my wallet from getting overwieght. When I am in the market, I always check the stock at HobbyTown first. read more

I was excited to have a hobby shop in the neighborhood but was underwhelmed by their selection and disappointed in their poor attitude. They acted all put out when I returned a small part that didn't fit - one they'd picked out after I'd told them my car model and specs. They seemed most interested in a customer service call about their own car, lecturing me and repackaging the part while I waited around wondering what was going on. Bought a plastic model, paid cash, brought it home and saw the quality of the item was quite bad. Went back within the hour but was told they would not accept returns if they have been opened. Well, how do you know the product is bad if you don't open it? Buy online. I try to support small local businesses, but if they don't support me then I go elsewhere. Extremely disappointed with their customer service and return policy! In constructing my HO train layout I have spent quite a bit of money in that establishment over the last 18 months or so with paints and landscaping materials. About a month ago I accidentally purchased a Woodland Scenics product which was the wrong color of green, so today I intended to exchange it for the correct green tone. No dice! Returns with a receipt honored within two weeks of purchase! No exceptions! ( I had already trashed to the receipt ) I asked for store credit. NO! The service clerk was stalwart and intransigent in her position. I still purchased a couple of items, but that did not alter her decision. They sold me a battery I came home plugged it in and car fried my RC car in just under a minute, and I've contacted them and they told me that It the car not the battery and they don't even want to take a look at It they don't want anything to do with me, also they don't take returns. We stopped in with my son's science club robot needing some emergency repair for an upcoming event, and employee Chuck was able to successfully perform soldering repairs on the spot when we dropped in with no warning. Thanks to the successful repairs, we did not need to make any purchases. When I asked what we owed for time and supplies, he said no charge! This is what top rate customer service is all about. Pretty cool shop. They have all of the paint and gunpla kits I've been looking for lately. You have to look in the back corner to find them. The lady that runs the store seems to be a little on the rude side to her employees though. I was in there monday and she talked to the guy working like he was a dog and he literally walked out! Very disappointing lack of service!!!! We special ordered some parts for an RC car. Paid cash up front and was told the parts would hopefully be there by the end of the week. After 2 weeks I called and was told that they didn't have time to check but they would call me when the parts were in. I called again a week later and was told that only one of the parts had arrived and the others were backordered. Asked when they would arrive and was informed that their sales rep was on vacation so they would have to call his backup person to find out. I held for some time while they did that and was told to call back the next day to see what the rep could find out. Called back and was told that the part was shipping that day but it was too soon to get a tracking number. Called back 3 days later to find out that the parts should be delivered the next week. Bridget left me a message the day the parts arrived. The next day I went to pick them up....only to find that they had closed early due to a "change in hours". But just then 2 employees came out the door so I approached with receipt in hand and asked if they could please give me the parts that were already paid for....and they wouldn't do it. They said their computer system was in the middle of a backup so they couldn't release the parts. I explained how inconvenient it would be to make a special trip back, mentioned that Google was still showing that they were open, and they could not have cared less. They said that the vendor was "to blame" for the inconvenience because they had backordered the parts. They also said that they will soon be going back to normal hours....as if I would ever consider buying something from them again. read more

I brought my revo 3.3 in to the store to be tuned, they had it a month before they did the job and charged me $140.When i got home I took the revo out for about 10 minutes and it stopped running and wont start, i took it back to hobbytown vancouver and again they had it over a month with every excuse why it wont run except their own guy tuned the motor wrong and it blew. Today i picked up the truck and i will never return to that store again. They have the obsolete worst customer service i have ever experienced at any store. read more

Very rude! Management was terrible. I bought an RC airplane brought it home and the wheels were not there, I attempted to bring it back and the so called "Manager" said "if you didn't want an airplane that was a throw and fly you shouldn't waste my time." As if I was inconveniencing him. I showed him on the box and picture that it was supposed to have the wheels and he said "oh well I will give you new wheels but I don't have to and you probably just lost them when you crashed it."
