After numerous failed attempts at teaching myself, I booked a private lesson with Colleen. Over the course of two hours, she taught me all about operating my machine, basic stitches, entry-level sewing tools, and I even made a drawstring bag! She was kind, patient, encouraging, and a FANTASTIC instructor. I can't wait to take some of her group classes!! The store itself is great. Lots of sewing supplies that are of higher quality and will last you a while. The people who work here couldn't be nicer or more helpful. If you feel intimidated by learning to sew, this is a perfect spot to start learning. Even if you're already a great sewer, you'll find everything you need here. They have a spacious section in the back where they teach group and individual classes; you can also rent a desk/machine if you need some higher end equipment to work with. When I arrived, there was one person ahead of me and two employees behind the counter. Foolishly, I assumed this meant I would be helped sometime before the death of the universe. Instead, I was treated to a masterclass in non-transactional retail. Over the next 15+ minutes, I watched employees engage in several fascinating activities, including: * Petting dogs * Discussing classes * Conversing with customers about topics unrelated to purchasing items * Walking away * Standing around * Almost helping customers At one point I made the mistake of expressing that I was in a hurry and would like to purchase my single item. This was apparently a shocking and unreasonable request in a store that sells things. My favorite moment was when a customer who had occupied a register for roughly the length of a feature film turned around and made "deep breath" gestures at me as if I hadn't already done the daily Calm three times in my head. Thank you, sir. I had incorrectly assumed the purpose of a checkout line was pay for something. I now understand it was a mindfulness retreat. By the end of my visit, one customer had been processed, several dogs had received excellent service, and I had achieved a higher state of unconsciousness. If you're looking for clay, I can help you! Go to Blick's since their clay is a quarter of the price and it won't make you wait in line while it dries. If you're looking for an opportunity to contemplate the passage of time while observing casual conversations unfold at glacial speed, this establishment is second to none.

When I asked if that was GIA he replied "yeah they are certified" anyone in the jewelry industry knows GIA is the WORLDS go to certificate any other doesn't matter, not really. This guy was clueless. I asked if I could please see the certificate to which he replied, " oh you want to actually see it? It's buried in the back somewhere". Really! Whatever! That was shady as F...., I just walked out. Brought my Singer in with what I thought was an issue with the foot controller. Was told it would…read morebe 5-6 weeks before it they could look at it. I asked if we could test a working foot controller to rule it out as an issue. The foot controller they plugged in not only did not work but caused the machine to spark! I was told I can leave my machine and get a free estimate in 5-6 weeks. Through further discussion, I was encouraged to purchase a new, more expensive brand of machine because evidently Singer and Brother machines are cheap crap from China. (Their sentiment, not mine. I've sewed on a Singer all my life and so has my mother.) I opted not to leave my machine. Once home, I ordered a new foot controller online which just arrived and solved my problem. Also ordered some sewing machine oil and now plan to do maintenance myself. I was hoping to support a local small business and maybe build a relationship for future service but the way they handled my situation has guaranteed I'll be looking elsewhere in the future. Perhaps if they spent a few minutes ruling a few simple things out when machines come in they wouldn't have "a hundred machines" in queue for repair.
