As of last year, it's also arranged a bit differently but I love everything about it. Talented photographers showcasing their work with important messages embedded in their photos. Generally, you had a good mix of things. I could have taken more time and spent more in the American or Mediterranean. I do see you are a woke institution, which was not enjoyable to me. You can have a separate room or wing for what black women in the neighborhood years ago went though; then, in the name of reality, other months cover Italians being called "niggers"; Irish being indentured servants; Armenian and Jewish genocide; Greeks being slaves under Moslem Turks for 400 years; actual Nazis and crazy Communists like Stalin killing millions; Cyprus being split in two by Turks in 1974; Pakistanis and Indians killing each other; Koreans being discriminated against, etc. This country has many different people in it, don't they deserve equal coverage? ;) If I go apple picking, I want apples, not bananas or a monkey wrench out of nowhere. If I want to see furniture in an 1800s house, I don't want to see people who were not owners on the wall or Halrme or Chinese or Shakesperean or Oklahoma farm or even a Plainfield home (not Newark), etc. furniture or photographs on the wall. I think every culture has something to teach us. And I prefer my own, as I am sure many others, like Chinese, black, etc., even from certain countries or regions of countries do. I'd love to learn about different Indian tribes as I did in the seventh grade. However, insinuating someone died of myeloma due to being disregarded or white supremacy insults my intelligence. I am sure there has been discrimination, but without specificity as to that example, it is propaganda and a false narrative. I had a very close relative die of that and they were white. Perhaps science just does not have the cure, and also, many doctors are dumb in the moment and make mistakes. Also, in the Mediterranean exhibit, Egyptian had to be put in front of Greek or Italian. The Brooklyn Museum has no Greek or Roman art, I think. Perhaps take turns with put different ones in front of the other in different times. All of this is driving people in the country apart.

I gathered some friends, found a 20% off discount code, and we all headed over to The Shed's sprawling, modern space to check it out. Upon entering The Shed, we were basically in a large lounge, which also had a bar and various seating arrangements. My friend and I grabbed a drink at Cedric's, the downstairs bar, and waited for the rest of our group to arrive (please see separate review for Cedric's at the Shed - https://www.yelp.com/biz/cedrics-at-the-shed-new-york-3?hrid=CELSOa2pnnpkj01Q1f57fQ). When we were all settled up, we headed up the escalator into the 2 large showrooms. The story of the exhibit was interesting, in that the amusement park art display from various talents had debuted in Germany in 1987. There had been plans for it to travel the world, but after the curator, André Heller, passed away, many of the pieces had been tucked away in shipping containers to only be discovered recently. Overall, the exhibit was full of colorful and fun pieces, though I wish there had been even more interactive elements. If I had not been there with a large group, I probably could have made it through the two spacious rooms in a half hour. However, we took our time, as there were some circus-type performers that would wander around every so often, and we wanted to witness the show. All in all, we were there for about an hour, which was more than enough. I felt that Luna Luna was definitely lighthearted and amusing, but I would not really call it a must-see.

I bought the tickets at the venue to avoid the random online fees. There was a lot of cool info about the history of Luna Luna, artists, pieces. I was super confused about Drake being involved but then again not surprised...diversify your portfolio LOL. There were a couple of things to walk into and experience, a lot of reading, you can't actually ride any of the rides. The view from the Butterfly Bar on the fourth floor was super cool! I'm a fan of infinity type of rooms so to see the 2 rooms that you could go into and interact in be that type...I enjoyed! Took us about an hour and a half to walk thru it and read things. Kids were there but I don't know if it makes sense to bring younger kids, I would probably pass on doing that.

The main exhibit was '50 seasons of Survivor' I do not watch the show, but the artifacts were interesting. There were a few photo ops. There was also an exhibit of 45 years of Pac-Man, with some old machines and a lot of artwork. It was fun to play Ms. Pac-Man. The Paley Library on the fourth floor includes archives of over 160,000 television shows and audio. There is also a daily schedule of screening on the Bennack Theater, unfortunately I was there late and didn't get to enjoy any of the shows. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very pleasant. I spent less than one hour in the museum.

Then I got to play VR and video games on the 5th floor, watch Snoopy episodes in the basement and arts and crafts on the 4th floor. It was a fun day. I will definitely visit again for another event.

We spend about an hour and 15 minutes perusing the collection and encountered about 20 people during our Monday afternoon visit. The museum discusses the historical involvement of Native Americans in wars that the United States of America participated in. The collection includes clothing, baskets, bowls, and other artifacts from various cultures indigenous to North and South America. The artifacts are well-labelled, and you can easily spend more time than we did examining every artifact in great detail. Overall, I think the National Museum of the American Indian is excellent and definitely worth a visit if you are interested in indigenous cultures.

There is a street level entrance or you can climb the many stairs. With way you will need to walk through security. The atrium area has always been one of my favorite parts of the building. The museum itself is small and kind of crowded, but they definitely packed a lot of fascinating garments into such a small space. Some of my favorite garments on display at the special exhibit: 1. Issey Miyake's red plastic body bustier from 1983 2. A red silk satin corset from 1889 3. Jack Jacobus high-heeled boots from 1895-1900, gift of the Victoria & Albert Museum 4. Top hats from Books Brothers, Christian Dior (his is corseted!), and Justin Smith 5. A Jean Paul Gaultier orange cone-bra dress 6. Thierry Mugler's mermaid dress 7. A spikey black coat ensemble from Viktor & Rolf 8. A 3D-printed spider dress 2.0 created and engineered by Annouk Wipprecht for INTEL in 2015, in collaboration with Philip H. With only an hour and change, we braced ourselves for a rushed experience, but the space unfolded into something bigger and more immersive than anticipated. From the dinosaur fossils to the vivid animal exhibits, every room had something that stopped us in our tracks. This wasn't just kid stuff either--our group of adults had an absolute blast. The real scene-stealer? The architecture. The building feels part cave, part spaceship--organic curves meet sharp, modern design, like nature and the future co-authored a museum. It's visually stunning, both inside and out. A happy accident turned into a highlight of the day. If you find yourself nearby in the late afternoon, it's absolutely worth a visit--free or not.

I thought I did a review because it's been years since I visited. I was drawn to this business page because on this morning's news they said what they called the Firefighters Museum (and they said it is on Prince Street), was closed! They said it was closed indefinitely because of structural issues in the 120 year old building where the museum is housed. I've searched the web and this is the only museum I can find related Fire Departments and the history of Firefighters in NYC. I'm finally doing my review so you will check before you visit. This museum may be temporarily closed. I'm going to look for my additional photos to post. It's definitely an overdue review!

Our two-year-old Leo B. is obsessed with fire trucks, so we decided to take him to the NYC Fire…read moreMuseum last month while we were visiting New York. It was less exciting than I'd hoped--I guess I'd expected to see, I don't know, like one fire truck that looks like the ones in his books--but it was still a worthwhile stop, and he enjoyed himself quite a bit. The museum is small, housed in an old fire station in Hudson Square, with exhibits spread out across a couple of floors. You enter and exit through the gift shop, which is also where you purchase tickets. The guy at the register was very nice, and we bought three adult tickets (mom, dad, grandma) at $10 apiece, all so the little one, whose ticket was "free," could enjoy fifteen minutes roaming among the firefighting artifacts. I think we were the only visitors the entire time we were there. We saw a handful of old fire engines spread out between the two floors, and these were pretty cool, and Leo recognized them as fire trucks of sorts and enjoyed looking at and discussing their big wheels. He was less interested in the smaller items, which would probably be intriguing to slightly older kids. We also kept him out of the 9/11 memorial room, which seemed less designed for boisterous toddlers than the rest of the place, but which we adults appreciated. I honestly think our kid's favorite part of the museum might have been the gift shop, where I discovered that my son understands the concept of buying things and taking them home. He wanted every fucking variant on a fire truck toy--squishy and plastic, small and large; ambulance, van, engine. We settled on a big fire truck with an extendable ladder, which is now one of his favorite toys. It was over $40 and one of the stickers started peeling off pretty immediately, but I do think it's reasonably solid quality. We bought the same one for a friend's two-year-old, as well as a soft toy for his baby sister, both of which went over well. We also got an FDNY T-shirt for Leo, so the museum made a decent amount of money off of us. I'm guessing we didn't see all there was to see, but as our two-year-old wasn't clamoring to learn about the fire department's history, I think we did things right. We had a pleasant visit at the NYC Fire Museum and would recommend it if you or your small ones are fascinated by firefighting.
