From the first visit I was impressed by their professionalism, depth of knowledge, and passion for slate. They started by climbing up on my roof and thoroughly inspecting it at no cost to me. They provided feedback on their findings- missing or broken slates, caulk improperly used where copper valleys should have been soldered, mismatched slates, and bolts used to attach step flashing. They shared photos of their findings which gave me confidence that their estimate was based on legitimate work. I was pleased to know that they would use matching Virginia Buckingham slate that other roofers said they were unable to source. Their recommendation was to keep my existing slate (with minor repairs) and replace all of the copper flashing, which had reached the end of it's life and started to develop holes. They promptly provided a detailed proposal which fell somewhere in the middle among the other estimates I received. They started promptly and the crew worked tirelessly all day for two weeks in the intense summer heat. The crew was 100% reliable and did an amazing job carefully picking up old slates, removing old copper, laying down new weatherproofing, new copper and replacement slates. The work was done with the highest standards and any questions were prompted addressed. When the slate and copper work was completed they power washed my roof to make it look like new. What impressed me most about DS is how they responded many months later when I contacted them about a water intrusion issue. They showed up immediately and investigated the issue by water testing their roof work. Their work checked out fine but they went the extra mile to help me determine the source of the issue - an older gutter that the previous roofer installed using caulk to join the seams (should have been soldered according to DS standards). When they finished, I reached out to receive their report via email. It came back saying everything was in good shape, so we had a contractor come out to take another look. Turns out the repair needed was so obvious to the contractor (from two stories below) that he didn't even have to use his drone to evaluate the damage. It's hard to wonder how these professionals missed such a glaring problem. Just yesterday, we had a handyman come out to do the repair and while up on the roof they noted that we even had a tile completely broken in half just above the damage to the soffet and fascia (of which you could see from below).
