We were told the kitchen had closed early, which honestly wasn't a huge deal--we understood and decided to stay and have drinks anyway. What was frustrating was that by 9:30 PM, while all 8 of us were still there drinking and spending money, the staff started making comments about how they were closing and we could only get one more drink. If you advertise that your bar is open until 11 PM(sign outside even says bowling is open until 11), customers shouldn't be made to feel unwelcome an hour and a half before closing, especially when you have a group of paying customers. Also minimum of 8 more people came in and got turned away for a drink. I completely understand closing early if business is dead, but when you have 8 people sitting there actively ordering drinks, it's pretty disappointing to feel like you're an inconvenience. We would have happily stayed, continued ordering, and tipped well. Unfortunately, the experience made us feel like our business wasn't wanted.

It's a bowling alley bar, in far North central Wisconsin. No frills, no atmosphere, and swelling with the sad vibes of being some of the onliest people in the place besides the staff VERY close to closing time. We had just played a sold-out show at a wonderful Arts Center in Minocqua, so we were not bereft of self-esteem, we were just hungry and thirsty. Well. Cocktails first-being in Wisco, I had to order a Brandy Old Fashioned. It came in a generous plastic cup, the same size as my wife's Diet Coke. It was well-made. Goal #1 achieved. We learned, gratefully, the kitchen was "still open" The menu was a bit surprising. It didn't look like a typical "Bowling Alley Bar" menu. I ordered a "Patty Melt"-not my usual order, but the menu claimed it would come on rye bread with Wisco Cheese. Wife ordered Burger and Fries, and our pal Max ordered "Shrimp"--thinking it would be the typical frozen crap one would expect at a bowling alley bar near midnight. Well. The "Melt" and Burger were delicious, the Fries were excellent, and the Shrimp were nicely steamed and very fresh. WHAAAAAAAA? I was sober, folks. and not THAT hungry to mistake mediocre for anything else. Somebody had some pride in that kitchen. Although they locked the doors, they didn't throw us out. A cocktail or two more and a fine nightcap was had by all. Kudos to Morgan the Bartender, who appeared like a droll Gen Z'er, but turned out to be most pleasant. We were encouraged to see her doing cleanup most enthusiastically--told us a lot about why the experience there was so enjoyable. They care...You find that a lot in Wisconsin Restaurants.

The bartenders were not nice and should consider finding a new job. This place has a lot of potential but am very disappointed. I will not be recommending Northstar lanes to anyone. Save your money. This made for a fun night...especially considering our assumption was how are we going to have fun at little bars in middle of nowhere wisconsin. We never ended up bowling though... the bar was too much fun with the game on. The crowd was a mixed bunch...from camo wearing outdoorsmen to rich Chicago suburbanites. It came on pretty big size bun but would have been nice if it was toasted or not so dry. I would say there was a nice quantity of meat on the bun and they didnt skimp on that. The fresh cut fries were good and not limp like some places do. They did not salt them so you had to yourself. My friend had the soup and salad bar which was part of their lunch special so not sure if they have it up all the time or just during lunch and that was $5.99. My mom had the chicken quesadilla and she said the flavor of the chicken was very bland and not very much meat on it. It did however look good. Came with lettuce, tomato on top and sour cream. She said if she returned there she would not order that again. The place was clean and the service was fine. Nothing above average by any means. I would go back if I was in the area as they seemed to have a nice variety on the menu from wraps, burgers, pizzas, apps and several diffrent kinds of sandwhiches.

My sandwich had plenty of lettuce, cheese and bacon which was made perfectly. My brother had the works burger which has onion rings, bacon and lettuce, tomato, cheese and was huge! The fries were nicely crispy and brown. They offer many drinks including many local beers.
