I am not a B and B sort of guy but I thought my wife would like it when I booked it. Turns out she is not a B and B sort of person either. But since their aren't any upscale hotel options (Hampton Inn actually looked really nice), this place looked as nice as any. I guess it was as nice as you could ask for. This is only my second stay at a bed and breakfast. The first time, I felt like I was staying with my wife's great grandparents. This place was better than that. Each room had it's own building. It was rustic but not fru-fru. It has most of the amenities you need. It is very comfortable. There was a pesky cat that ran into our room when we opened the door (since I am deathly allergic to cats, that was disconcerting). The cat also pawed at our door the next morning as some sort of b and b wake-up call. There was a very nice breakfast delivered to our room. Conveniently located. My husband and I did a last minute birthday trip here and booked a cabin during the weekday. I loved everything about this place! The room itself was very clean and had a nice selection of soap, lotion, and hot tea which I really appreciated. The location is great just a block away from main street with many places we wanted to visit nearby. The grounds are beautiful and I wish i would have brought my camera stand to do some couoles photos. I live the little pond my the outdoor wedding arch. The property cat was so cute and provided entertainment looking for frogs or fish in the pond. The breakfast delivered to our room was honestly one of the best meals we had in fredericksburg. Country-chic heaven. If you're like me and B&B's somewhat freak you out due to possible extreme closeness with strangers, Hoffman Haus is the perfect compromise. The compound that is the property is really spread out, so it is more private than I expected. We stayed in the Emily Morgan room which was a charming, high-ceilinged, moderately sized room perfect for two people. I loved having coffee, hot chocolate, tea, wine glasses, mugs, a microwave, etc all at my disposal. Although they do bring the most delicious hotel breakfast ever to your room each morning, it's nice to have those other options. The landscaping and serenity of the grounds is breathtaking. It's just one of those places you could sit on your porch for hours and just be. We were there for a wedding, so there wasn't much of that going on, but it was a hop, skip and a jump away from Main Street and all the action. For some, they might like to stay on Main, but I can imagine it would be pretty difficult to wind down with the noisy bar traffic on the weekends. Great, comfortable, and clean rooms, hospitable and friendly staff, and an all around beautiful experience! read more

My husband and I decided to spend our first Christmas married away from everyone in Fredericksburg. I engrossed myself in researching B&B's in the area (oh my, are the a lot of them!) and after reading yelp and Google (plus soliciting suggestions from friends) I narrowed it down to 3. Hoffman Haus was the ONLY one to return my phone call; I guess those other ones didn't need the business. Courtney and the owner, Leslie, were delightful to work with; they met us on Christmas Eve afternoon for our early check in and showed us around the place. The main house is open 24 hours, with tables, a library and a closet of things you might need (wine openers, etc). We were staying in the Alamo Suite and since the office was closed on Christmas Day our fridge had been stocked with: Quiche, bacon, fruit, juices, peach turnovers and some apple scones! *Leslie is a professional chef and if you have any dietary need (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, allergy, etc...) they will accommodate!* The Alamo Suite is massive - the sitting room is large enough to 6-8 people to relax in while playing a boardgame or watching a movie. The bathroom (there are two) was enormous. It went on for miles! The bed was super comfy. Our only complaints are: 1. The ceiling in the Alamo Suite is vaulted, and the heating vents are in the ceiling. It was freezing our first night b/c the hot air seemed to be trapped above us. 2. The tile floor in the master bath is beautiful - and FREEZING. Take some slippers. We have already booked our next stay here - and you should, too! read more

Greeted with ice water and fresh chocolate chip cookies on a warm day. Room was ready on time and immaculate. Very spacious. Bedding was really comfortable. Room had mini fridge stocked with juice and water. Very quiet property that is within walking distance of Main Street. Breakfast delivered to our room every morning. Got to sit out on the balcony and enjoy wonderful food every morning. My wife loved the lavender bath and lotion products. We have done a few B+B in Fredericksburg now but I think we have found a favorite that we will keep coming back to from now on. read more

I just spent a lovely Valentine's weekend with my husband in Fredericksberg. I had nothing to do with the planning, as the entire weekend was one surprise followed by yet another. The Hoffman Haus was a beautiful, relaxing treat. The grounds are larger than one would expect within walking distance of Main St. I loved the relaxed, rustic atmosphere that while indulgant, didn't smack of pomp or pretense. The Morning Star room had a big, soft, bed, couch, TV, and small dinning table. There was a nook with coffee maker, sink, micro and fridge. And the bathroom had a small jacuzzi style tub. Upon arrival, our room had a chilled bottle of champaigne, chocolate covered strawberries, fudge, and some kind of killer almond cream thing that was impossible to resist. (Extra) There was a 5:00p.m. reception with lovely hors-duovres, more desserts, and wine. It was very nice. Breakfast was delivered quietly to our door at 9:00 a.m. It was also fresh and yummy. The only downside for me was that our cottage was shared by a rather loud (or perhaps it just seemed that way) family on the other side. There was little or no sound barrier. Once I realized I could actually hear their conversations, I was afraid to make any noise in our own room. They came home at 11:00 p.m. and were making quite a ruckus. So, I guess if you are thinking about going there, for a romantic getaway, get a "stand alone" cottage. Otherwise, it was a truley terrific experience. read more

We just stayed here with my family for Thanksgiving 2012 -- what a fantastic experience. The room appointments were spa-like and the delivered breakfast baskets each morning were filled with delectable goodness. The fresh hill country air and friendly citizens who call this place home provided the perfect backdrop for a terrific (though too short) vacation with family and good friends. Wireless access was less than perfect. The setup is probably a home-dye-job router that is incapable of handling the traffic of 10+ units of guests all downloading emails, movies, whatever. As a business person this was frustrating, but perhaps part of the innkeepers' strategy of getting visitors to unplug and relax. Breakfast service also needed a minor tweak. Though delicious^2, they delivered close to 0930 on our first day, which is a bit too late for those of us eager to eat and be on the move. Not to worry, though. The Hill Country Donut Shop (a brief jaunt out the loverly back garden gate and through an unsavory parking lot) provides PLENTY of scrumptilicious kolache and donut options. The smell deep-fried doughy goodness wafts through the cold morning air like a cloud of ambrosia, waking me from my donut-filled dreams. read more

I am in love with the Hoffman Haus! Have stayed here a couple of times and each time is incredible. The grounds are beautiful - open and well maintained. Each room has its own rustic, cozy feel. I've only stayed in Emily Morgan, but my parents stayed in one of the cottages the first time we visited and it was also beautiful, warm and inviting. Emily Morgan has high ceilings, ample natural lighting, a giant bed that swallows you whole (seriously, you'll never want to get up from this bed), lovely antique furnishings and a cabin-in-the-woods like feel. Breakfast was discreetly delivered around 9am with a gentle knock and "good morning! breakfast!" We ate in bed, enjoying the quiche, sausage, fresh fruit and biscuit our of a darling little picnic basket. Downstairs, the main hall is huge and so beautiful. There's a quiet little library with books and movies for guests to enjoy at their leisure. Grab a dvd and a board game and scamper off to your room like we did when it began to pour down and the temperature dropped. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! read more

Very polite staff they show you around the main room area when you check in where you can grab a DVD or some cookies. The place is extremely quiet and it feels like you are the only one there. Breakfast was delivered to our door at 9:00 both mornings and it was yummy! There is a fridge in the room with plenty of juices. There is also a coffee pot and creamer in the fridge. We had TV trays in our room to use for eating our food. The rooms have a sink, silverware, wine glasses and bottle opener. We stayed in the Crockett which was the only room still available. I would definitely stay in a different room next time for only one reason....the bathroom doesn't have a ceiling so you don't have too much privacy. If you are laying in the bed you can hear everything in the bathroom, it's just separated by a hall. Wish there was a ceiling to help with the privacy. read more

Great location off of Main Street. Our room was modern yet rustic. Definitely the best place we have stayed this far. The breakfast is a bit to be desired. Service was great, fast easy check in. Beds are very comfy as are the pillows and linens are nice!! We slept like babies! My tips for improvement would be a better coffee and just a pastry delivery in the morning. Everyone loves a pastry and they have some great pastry shops in town. Also, the floors and behind beds, crevices could use a good cleaning. As a VRBO owner myself I notice these things. read more

Very nice appointments, delicious breakfast (they accommodated gluten-free diet very well), conveniently located, lovely grounds, friendly staff and cats, good price. But I wouldn't recommend sleeping in the queen-sized sofabed in this suite. It was uncomfortable and the living room is drafty at night (cold air came in through the crack under the door; this was a chilly time of year - March), there wasn't enough bedding, and one of the blankets didn't even cover the whole bed (it was a single throw). I'm sure the main bedroom was fine, so probably great for a couple who want a full suite to spread out in. But not recommended for more than 2 intimately related people. read more

This place is gorgeous! I went back and forth for days trying to choose among the many hotels and B&Bs in the area, and I could not have been happier with my choice of Hoffman Haus. My 6 year old and I went for a quick 3 day trip from San Antonio. We had the Bluebonnet Suite, and it was the perfect size with room for her to run around. I loved the blend of shabby chic and rustic in the room, and the bed and sitting areas were very comfy. Another great thing was the DVD player. We brought some movies from home for my daughter and I chose a few, as well as a book from the office. The picnic basket breakfasts were so fun! They even made a more kid-friendly meal of waffles in place of florentine eggs for my daughter- very thoughtful touch. There is an ice machine outside, a cookie jar inside, a koi pond, and many other little extras that make this place a step above. This will definitely be our go-to place for a quick getaway. This was our first time in Fredericksburg, and we had a great time! read more

My husband and I have never really celebrated our anniversaries anywhere particularly special. Our 11th year anniversary was out of the world solely because of Hoffman Haus. I have already pre-booked next years anniversary it was literally that amazing. Right in the center of town which means you never use car as you have quick access to all shops/restaurants available on and off Main St. The amenities were homemade goodness of all kinds...from the shampoo/conditioner/soaps (lemon/lavender scent) that were available in the shower to the chocolate dipped strawberries waiting for us upon arrival (and chilled champagne) to the homemade sausage/ham and cheese quiche the next morning delivered promptly at 9am with hot coffee, OJ and homemade pecan biscotti. SERIOUSLY. If you need a quiet, comfortable king size bed and privacy for some one on one relaxation, this is the place. But you better schedule quickly because the schedule fills up soon. My love for Hoffman Haus is true and runs deep - not unlike that which I feel for my husband, my beagle, certain of my handbags and a really nice glass of Pinot Noir. You see, I'm a sentimental fool and I like a touch of class. That's why me and HH hit it off from the moment I checked in. First of all, Fredericksburg, in case you are unfamiliar, is a lovely gem of a town in the Texas Hill Country. It's about 4 hours from Dallas and 1 hour from Austin or San Antonio. German in heritage (indeed, it was near impossible to find an English speaking resident in F-burg as late as the 1970's), the town is now in full tourist swing, covered up with B&B's, shops, biergartens and the like. Stay tuned for reviews of my favorite Fredericksburg funspots - and a couple of spots to *avoid*. But I digress. Back to Hoffman. First, it is comprised of several buildings, all dating back to the late 19th-century, as opposed to one large house. The main building at HH contains the offices and check-in, as well as dining and kitchen facilities. There are two guest rooms upstairs, but the majority of the accomodations are in the aforementioned private cabins, scattered throughout the property amid gardens, shade trees, ivy-lined arbors and all manner of Hill Country flora. Privacy is key. The decor at HH is also of note. Owner Leslie Washburne is a class-act, and you can see her signature calming, stylish hand in the inn's decorating scheme. There is not a doilie in sight. And I dare you to find one of those creepy bunny dolls dressed in childrens' clothing (a B&B staple since who-knows-when). No, Hoffman Haus is more Pottery Barn in its sensibilities...and who hasn't dreamed that heaven might be a little like P.B.? To round out your stay, meander over to the main house in the evening for complimentary wine and gourmet munchies. Like those goat cheese balls? It's no wonder - you see, Washburne is also a culinary whiz (she used to teach for Whole Foods). Perhaps you'd like to arrange a private day of cooking instruction at The Natural Palate, her cooking school just a couple of minutes away? Yes, Hoffman Haus is just the place to call home base when you're ready for a relaxing Hill Country weekend in Fredericksburg. My boyfriend and I stayed at the B&B for our anniversary and I was pleased with how it worked out. We were in the Morning Star room/suite which is in half of a building on the grounds (the other half being occupied by another room, Evening Star). Everything was clean and comfortable - the room was large with sitting area, bed, kitchenette area, and bathroom. When we arrived on Friday, we checked in and were told that appetizers and wine would be served from 5-6pm, a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was delivered to our door each morning and it wasn't continental by any means; it was french toast, eggs, fruit, bacon, etc. Wonderful to wake up to! And if you don't like eating with strangers, etc, like a traditional B&B, it was a big bonus to have it delivered. For the price, I thought this was a good value considering the location so close to downtown (but not so close that there was a lot of noise), the drinks/appetizers on Friday and breakfast being delivered. The only gripe I had was the way noise traveled between the two rooms (Evening Star and Morning Star). We could hear our neighbors in multiple occasions and I would have preferred something more secluded from others. read more

Fabulous B&B right off main street in Fredericksburg. Beautiful grounds and historic buildings and very cozy. The rooms are a nice size, we had the Garden Room which could not be cuter. The staff is so nice, the beds are comfortable, and there is a small kitchen in each room stocked with a fridge, microwave, and plates/utensils - makes you want to stay in all night! I would definitely come back here and I am more than happy to tell everyone I know that this is a must stay! This B&B gets 5 stars for cat lovers, if you're allergic or don't like kitties, then it's best to go somewhere else. We stayed in the Crockett room, which is in the main lodge. We played host to 3 separate cat visits, and one of those cats kept us company all night long. We loved it, but if you are cat averse, it is easy enough to ignore the felines and keep them out of your room. Lovely, quiet setting a few blocks and an easy walk to Main Street. Our room came equipped with a DVD player, and there is a very nice library of movies available to check out. Breakfast is served in a picnic basket directly to your room, which is great if you're not a morning person and you don't want to get up and play nice with all the other B & B guests just to have your cup of joe. Overall, more like a nice suite-style hotel, with loads more charm. And cats. read more

Not typically a fan of the B&B concept but had a difficult time finding a nice hotel in the area so this was it. We stayed in a stand-alone unit called, Ada's Cottage, on the perimeter of the property which was secluded and quiet. We were able to park our car right by front porch. The room itself was clean, very updated (if not brand new), well decorated, and spacious. The king size bed was super comfy... Plush mattress topper, soft sheets, and cloud like pillows. Our room also had central heating and cooling (not any sort of window unit) which was a very pleasant surprise. The bathroom was huge, had two rain shower heads, plenty of light switches and a bathroom vent (some hotels don't even have this and I don't like how humid the rooms get after everyone showers). Breakfast came promptly at 9 am and was a small portion but overall good. Check-out was easy and we were a little late as we lost our car keys and had to unpack everything and then repack after finding them. Only a very few minor cons regarding the room... And certainly nothing that would keep me from staying here again. 1. The floors in Ada's were a stained concrete with no rug or floor covering and despite the well thought out decor, it lended a hint of starkness (also the walls were mostly bare which might contribute to that, too). And we came in December so it was pretty cold walking around with out shoes. However I much prefer this to a B&B covered in knickknacks and lace. Maybe just like a large jute rug would do the trick :) 2. There are no drawers to unload your clothes which can cause the place to get chaotic pretty fast, especially when you're living out of your suitcase/bags. I prefer not to stare at my stuff when I'm trying to invoke a feeling of serenity so I was constantly repacking my bags to keep it all out of sight. This can be easily fixed because there was ample unused space that could be used for a dresser or something. 3. Not sure if this is anyone's fault, rather just an unfortunate annoyance but there were 3 large flies in our room, they were buzzing around and landing on us which got frustrating and detracted slightly from the tranquil mood. 4. Don't expect to get anything too interesting from the library. Games are blah. Only about 5 magazines total and they were all like some Texas magazine. We finally picked out one DVD to watch from the collection only to find that the case was actually empty upon returning to our room. Not a huge deal but just bring your entertainment games, books, whatever :) Last con is about service, and is in its own category because I'm assuming this is an isolated type of situation, although it does affect future thoughts on staying here again. It seemed that every staff member was preoccupied with an upcoming on-site wedding and that caused us to feel over looked and rushed anytime we had a request or question. I felt this is worth mentioning because staying at HH is by no means cheap, especially Ada's cottage. 1. Didn't get to experience the marvelous cookie bar that we read about. The jars were empty all three times that we visited on our first day (granted our visits were only about an hour apart but still). Also, there was no wine and appetizers around 5 pm as mentioned in the other reviews. When we checked in and I inquired about this, we were just told no and also told that due to the day of the week, many restaurants would not be open. This wasn't followed with any helpful suggestions for dining either, just an awkward silence. Also, when we asked for directions she just kind of pointed to a general direction as she walked us to our cottage (granted it wasn't really far but we didn't really know what to expect). We actually found it more helpful to just point yelp's monocle feature around from our cell phone to gage the shortest path to get food (thanks Yelp!). 2. Only one lone tea bag in our room (there was two of us staying) and some packaged ground coffee... Didn't get the hot chocolates, various organic teas options, and whatever other beverages that were mentioned in other reviews. Just felt like preparing our room was an afterthought, maybe because we found some clothing left from the previous guests in our room as well. Rented the entire property for the wedding party and immediate family for my son's wedding weekend. Had the Rehearsal Dinner in the Great Hall Fri nite. So much fun having so many stay together and the porch infront of the Great Hall was such a perfect place for everyone to hang out after the festivities each nite. Can't say enough great things about the staff at Hoffman Haus...from the initial encounter in June 2018 thru the wedding weekend of Jan 17-20, 2019, they were fabulous! So kind and accommodating! Everyone loved their cabins. My husband and I stayed in the Weber House, but had the opportunity to tour almost all of the rooms back in June and thought they were all so cute, with their own personalities.The breakfast was really tasty and the daily housekeeping was a real surprise...didn't expect that from a B&B. This was our fourth time to Fredericksburg and had stayed in motels previously. Will always return back to Hoffman Haus. Most importantly, the bride and groom were pleased. Having the most important people in their lives all staying together within the confines of the Hoffman Haus was what they wanted. My husband and I went here last weekend for a night after our wedding. I chose it based on the yelp reviews, and was not disappointed! Since we stayed on a Sunday night, we did not have to pay for 2 nights, and the 1 night was very reasonably priced. The owner, I assume it was, was very welcoming and friendly. We had the Bluebonnet Room, and it was positively wonderful. It was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the kitchenette convenient, the textures of wood and rock gorgeous, and the bathroom with its jacuzzi tub perfect. It was clean, quiet and private, and away from main street but close to go explore town. The breakfast was delivered at 9 in a basket to our door. I'd been expecting a couple of muffins and a banana, but no. There were glass dishes stacked with sausage, eggs, fruit, biscuits, gravy...it was delicious and hot. I definitely recommend The Hoffman Haus as a romantic and relaxing stay! read more
