Very good winery tasting room! Family owned and operated, the tasting room serves up good wines from Central Texas. The entrance is a bit hidden off of Main Street, in the sense that the signage is almost invisible and the entry gate is non-descript. Let folks know where you are! Sarah was our server today, very knowledgeable and she provided a great presentation of the tasting menu. The wines were good. No whites available today, but the reds were fun. My wife and I were in Fredericksburg for the day to pick up a shipment from another vineyard and decided to come here for a tasting as we are always looking for something new . This palace is located in the main area of Fredericksburg and not where the other wineries are. It's a quant little spot tucked of the street . It was pretty busy when we arrived. We were greeted promptly by the most friendly staff and she talked to us about the establishment and history . We sat inside at the counter and my wife opted for a sangria and I had a tasting. The sangria was delicious and very refreshing. Very sneaky too. Be careful not to over indulge on deliciousness and become too inebriated. I had a tasting that consisted of a rose and three reds. My wife tastes the rose and I did the reds. I appreciate a full bodied and smooth wine, that's not too dry. The reds here were very soft and a bit tannant for my taste. We only had one afternoon in Fredericksburg so we visited Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten. The place is great! Ambiance is wonderful with a small indoor space and lots of outdoor seating. It was really hot so we opted for the chilled sangria. It did not disappoint! We also got the picnic basket, which included bread, pimento cheese, fruit, candied walnuts, olives and delicious salted caramel chocolate chip cookie and brownie. The only "negative" was the flies outside. We found out afterwards that they do have the "whirligig" device to keep flies away - so be sure to ask for that! Bartender was great! They even boxed up our left overs. Each item in an individual bag, tied with twine and put in a picnic like box. Definitely recommend! read more

We've always enjoyed dropping in at Pontotoc Vineyard on Main St. My friends and I first "discovered" this place about 10 years ago and we've made it a point to swing by for a glass of sangria and their picnic basket whenever we venture Fredericksburg. The picnic basket consists of a sourdough bread, pimento cheese, olives, fruits, a brownie and glazed pecans. All delicious and we especially like the pimento cheese. I cannot believe I have never been to this winery and wine garden before! Its right on Main and so easy to get to but also so discrete and hidden, its easy to miss as little signage is noticeable unless you know where to look for it. Once you go inside you won't ever forget where it is or how to get there. Way awesome place to chill out and spend a sunny afternoon with a chef-designed picnic basket of goodies and some terrific Texas-grown wine. Owner-Couple Carl and Frances are spectacular people plain and simple. What a story they have and how kind are they! They have their kids involved in the business as well and they do great jobs as well. The hospitality we got from these two and the direct small talk they took the time to give us was priceless. The wine-tasting flight of 4 wines was thumbs up all around. Not one we disliked. Even the Tempranillo sangria frozen drink my wife got was very good! Not too sweet at all, very refreshing and tasty. The artisan sourdough bread with pimento cheese we got was also very good and I suggest anyone get this with their wine tasting. The wine garden is unique only to this place as no one else really has anything like this in the downtown Main St. area. It sits next to the oldest standing building in the town also, built in 1846! We loved our time at Pontotoc Vineyard! You can't see much from the street, but once you walk in, the patio area is pretty big. We stopped here while walking through the downtown area. The patio is dog friendly and we had our pup with us. We were greeted by the owner of the vineyard and got to talk to him for a bit during our time there. He gave us a run down on the history of the vineyard, some recommendations and answered some questions for us. Definitely recommend stopping here on your wine tour of Fredericksburg! read more

One word: sangria. This place is very popular for their sangria. Very refreshing on a perfect spring day in Texas. They even have the perfect outdoor sitting that's pet friendly for it. Probably the best sangria in Fredericksburg - if you're only gonna get one thing here it's gotta be it. We also tried the Tempranillo also - good but a little on the sweeter floral side vs earthy that most snobs would expect. Good thing I'm not because I enjoyed it. They also have a picnic basket with jelly, pimento cheese and bread - very good snack for your wine. Service was really good even though there was only one person working on a Sunday afternoon. In Austria, we have many of these special places, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the same atmosphere right here in the middle of Texas! The atmosphere outside was quaint. I noticed the establishment had a small wine cellar with a table and chair set up. It reminded me of the one we had when I was a child. It's been a few years since I've reviewed anything, but Peggy and I are back in the land of grapes and Jesus blood, aka Fredericksburg. We met up with some friends for a weekend of gluttony with wine and formage. That's fancy speak for cheese. We stopped at the Pontotoc Vineyard. Pontotoc was a community before they had an apocalypse/typhoid breakout. Now it's a ghost town. The only ghost I believe in is the Holy Ghost™ Anyway, the ladies had their famous sangrias and I opted for a Tempranillo. I'm pretty sure it's French for Temptation. But unlike Adam and Eve, I am in control. Unfortunately, we had eaten at a farm to table restaurant earlier and I had a Rev. Hank to toilet moment. I had more bubbles in my guts than any of the sparkling wines we've had. I immediately repented to my lord and savior. They say there's no fury like a woman scorned, but those people have definitely never blended a cheeseburger, wine and whiskey. The bathroom facilities are easily accessible, but a little drafty. You'll feel the angels breathe upon you while you rid yourself of sin. I highly recommend this place! Can't wait to return. read more

Absolutely adorable and a hidden gem. I've been to Fredericksburg dozens of times and probably drove by without seeing the sign. The outdoor seating is great and you don't really realize you're off of main street. I loved the Sangria and the Tempranillo. There's only a few people taking care of the tables, so the service is a little slower but they are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It was cold the day we were there and they had a couple fires going. The pimento cheese in the picnic basket was really, really good. You can even take one of the picnic baskets to go. I highly recommend a stop here when you need a break from shopping. There are picnic tables so you're good if you have more than 4 people. read more
