    My tasting.
    Adrian R.

My wife and I were in Fredericksburg for the day to pick up a shipment from another vineyard and decided to come here for a tasting as we are always looking for something new . This palace is located in the main area of Fredericksburg and not where the other wineries are. It's a quant little spot tucked of the street . It was pretty busy when we arrived. We were greeted promptly by the most friendly staff and she talked to us about the establishment and history . We sat inside at the counter and my wife opted for a sangria and I had a tasting. The sangria was delicious and very refreshing. Very sneaky too. Be careful not to over indulge on deliciousness and become too inebriated. I had a tasting that consisted of a rose and three reds. My wife tastes the rose and I did the reds. I appreciate a full bodied and smooth wine, that's not too dry. The reds here were very soft and a bit tannant for my taste. If you want sangria this is the spot though.

We only had one afternoon in Fredericksburg so we visited Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten. The place is great! Ambiance is wonderful with a small indoor space and lots of outdoor seating. It was really hot so we opted for the chilled sangria. It did not disappoint! We also got the picnic basket, which included bread, pimento cheese, fruit, candied walnuts, olives and delicious salted caramel chocolate chip cookie and brownie. The only "negative" was the flies outside. We found out afterwards that they do have the "whirligig" device to keep flies away - so be sure to ask for that! Bartender was great! They even boxed up our left overs. Each item in an individual bag, tied with twine and put in a picnic like box. Definitely recommend!

We've always enjoyed dropping in at Pontotoc Vineyard on Main St. My friends and I first "discovered" this place about 10 years ago and we've made it a point to swing by for a glass of sangria and their picnic basket whenever we venture Fredericksburg. The picnic basket consists of a sourdough bread, pimento cheese, olives, fruits, a brownie and glazed pecans. All delicious and we especially like the pimento cheese. The owner was there and offered to take our group photo which was nice of him. We sat outside because it happened to be a nice afternoon. We all really enjoy coming to this casual place to hang out with friends.

The sangrias here have to be the best we have ever had. Every time we are in the area we always stop by here for the sangrias and charcuterie board. The guy I always see here is super friendly and somehow remembered us from months ago! I can't explain how much we love coming here and the overall environment is super welcoming and just very relaxing.

Sangia made by the maestro! So great.

This may be our new weingarden in Fredericksburg! Potentially the nicest owner couple we have ever come across. Grapes, locally grown and turned into wine. Areas were phenomenal. Could not have asked for anything better.

Incredible customer service. Family owned and ran business. I truly felt so welcomed and like family just visiting. The owner is so kind and personal. Went above and beyond. Even provided some bug spray for me. The sangria and bread and pimento and cheese was all so delicious. I sometimes like sangria and sometimes don't, but it was the best I've had. I may be back for a bottle or 2. I love that dogs are welcome. Very chill .

The picnic basket was so amazing. Only grapes from Texas which is a bonus. Owner was so kind and thorough with his history info!

Home made bread, sausage, fruit, home made brownie, home made pimento cheese!

Absolutely loveee the environment!! The wine, and ESPECIALLY THE SANGRIA + Rosé are delicious!!! Especially the home cooked treats from the Picnic Basket! The customer service is amazing and nice staff. Such a nice treat every time I go visit!! I will continue to come back and visit any time I'm in town!

Picnic Basket - pimento cheese, olives, French bread, fruit, sausage, brownie and candied pecans

We had an amazing time at the winery today. The owner helped us get setup outside by the fire but it was too chilly so she moved us inside. We had a wonderful visit, ate some delicious food and had the best sangria I've ever had! The pimento cheese and candied pecans were so good!!!! The owner was extremely friendly and helpful! It will definitely be on my list of things to do anytime I'm back in Fredericksburg.

#2 was my favorite in the flight.

An unassuming gem of a spot. The infusion of sweet family values with the nostalgic atmosphere set the tone for your experience. The simplicity of having one perfect menu item to snack on while enjoying local made wine in a romantic setting just hits home. It's a wonderful little spot. Francis and her family put a lot of heart into this winegarden and you can feel it in every taste and touch. Her pub cheese is best in class. We loved it here and will be returning.

    Here we go!

I cannot believe I have never been to this winery and wine garden before! Its right on Main and so easy to get to but also so discrete and hidden, its easy to miss as little signage is noticeable unless you know where to look for it. Once you go inside you won't ever forget where it is or how to get there. Way awesome place to chill out and spend a sunny afternoon with a chef-designed picnic basket of goodies and some terrific Texas-grown wine. Owner-Couple Carl and Frances are spectacular people plain and simple. What a story they have and how kind are they! They have their kids involved in the business as well and they do great jobs as well. The hospitality we got from these two and the direct small talk they took the time to give us was priceless. The wine-tasting flight of 4 wines was thumbs up all around. Not one we disliked. Even the Tempranillo sangria frozen drink my wife got was very good! Not too sweet at all, very refreshing and tasty. The artisan sourdough bread with pimento cheese we got was also very good and I suggest anyone get this with their wine tasting. The wine garden is unique only to this place as no one else really has anything like this in the downtown Main St. area. It sits next to the oldest standing building in the town also, built in 1846! Wife and I plan to come back here every time we go to FRED from now on.

We loved our time at Pontotoc Vineyard! You can't see much from the street, but once you walk in, the patio area is pretty big. We stopped here while walking through the downtown area. The patio is dog friendly and we had our pup with us. We were greeted by the owner of the vineyard and got to talk to him for a bit during our time there. He gave us a run down on the history of the vineyard, some recommendations and answered some questions for us. Definitely recommend stopping here on your wine tour of Fredericksburg!

One word: sangria. This place is very popular for their sangria. Very refreshing on a perfect spring day in Texas. They even have the perfect outdoor sitting that's pet friendly for it. Probably the best sangria in Fredericksburg - if you're only gonna get one thing here it's gotta be it. We also tried the Tempranillo also - good but a little on the sweeter floral side vs earthy that most snobs would expect. Good thing I'm not because I enjoyed it. They also have a picnic basket with jelly, pimento cheese and bread - very good snack for your wine. Service was really good even though there was only one person working on a Sunday afternoon. Overall, I definitely recommend this place! Would definitely be back for more sangria!

Ask the Community - Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten

How much is the picnic basket and is it enough food for lunch or more of a snack?

Hi! Each basket is $30 and feeds 2-4 people. For lunch, I recommend one basket per 2 people… for a snack, you could have one basket per 4-5 people! Hope this helps!

    Do you need reservations?

Hi! No reservations needed unless you have over 10 people in your group!

How much per person with wine tasting and charcuterie board? Is there indoor seating?

Wine flights are $20 each and yes we have some indoor seating!

Are you offering glasses of sangria during Covid?

Yes! It’s available by the glass & bottle!

Do you offer tastings and wine by the glass right now?

Hi Karlee! Thanks for the message! The current covid restrictions allow us to offer glasses and bottles of wine for take away. There are some outdoor tables behind us you can utilize. We cannot offer tastings at this time! Hope this helps!

Do you allow kids to accompany?

    We sure do!!

Do we need a reservation for the wine tasting?

Hi! If your group is under 6 people, no reservation is needed!! If over 6 people, please call 512.658.0023 to get on the schedule. Thanks!

Do you allow dogs on leash in the Weingarten?

Yes, we sure do! We have water bowls and dog treats as well.

What is the cost for a tasting?

Hi Jessica! Thanks for the note. Our wine tastings are $10 per person and includes four wine samples. Hope this helps!

The Edge is a multi-purpose venue that serves as a restaurant when not hosting private events. It's not a winery and doesn't produce its own wines. Instead, it curates a selection of wines and offers a solid food menu for those looking for something other than ridiculously overpriced charcuterie boards. Now that we've got that straight, let's dive in. The Edge is the chameleon of Fredericksburg and adapts to what guests need. It sits on a beautiful property with stunning views, it offers ample space for large parties and plenty of TVs--perfect for catching football games during the season. The food? Definitely worth mentioning. The food options are predominantly American. I ordered a burger and a Pizza Roll and I couldn't stop raving about that damn roll (FYI, it's not a Totino's sized pizza roll). Despite the initial confusion, The Edge turned out to be a great find along the 290 Wine Shuttle route. Service: not the greatest, lots of lax young employees. Food took a while and was inconsistent in our party. Be prepared to learn the art of patience.

I understand that the cabins are old, and authentic but it would help a little. I would also recommend a little better dusting, around window sills, and windows/curtains, a fair amount of dust that came off, every time we closed the blinds or pulled the curtains. Vibe is euro-bistro and the staff is perfectly attentive. Prices are high, but honestly aligned to the quality of the food, at least the dishes we had were worth the prices. Food: Buttermilk Fried Chicken, with Onion/Bacon flash fried collard greens, whipped potatoes and house gravy and Jalapeno Cornbread for $32 Reuben on Marble Rye for $24 16oz Stella Artois for $10 We agreed that the fried chicken (5/5) was the best we could remember having. Whipped potatoes (5/5) were light, fluffy and perfect taste/texture. The gravy was like brown butter (5/5). The collard greens (5/5) were flash fried and if you've never had them like this, it's like eating collard green potato chips. Cornbread (3/4) was a bit too delicate and sweet for our taste. You couldn't pick it up without it falling apart. The Ruben (3/5). My wife loves a good Ruben sandwich. This one had the makings of a good one, but they use a Thousand Island sauce (too much of it) on the sandwich, and it hides the flavor of the meat. Next time we would ask for the sandwich without the TI sauce, see if that improves the rating. The sandwich came with house made potato chips (5/5), a small house salad with vinaigrette (5/5) and a large, pickled cucumber. I know, that's a pickle, but these are cucumbers that have gone maybe a third of the way through the process, so the cucumber taste is really prevalent. Lastly, we had the Creme Brulé (3/5) for dessert. It was nice, but the custard was coffee and caramel flavored, and we prefer the standard custard look and flavor. The caramel should come from the top layer, not the custard. The top layer was a bit too thick as well. We liked it, just didn't love it. Overall, quality food, service and vibe with prices that are aligned to more special occasions than everyday eating out. We'll be back to try the Monday Crawfish Etoufee and the Tuesday Duck Confit daily specials...look too good to pass up.

What was supposed to be A Day to remember, it turned out to be one of the worst experiences I have…read moreever had. We visited Saturday to celebrate an engagement of our children. We had been to a few other spots before and literally got red carpet treatment and people were genuinely happy we were visiting their establishment. However not the case at The Resort" We walked in and sat down and immediately the server came to take our order. She carded the newly engaged couple and asked them both for their ID's. When she realized the bride to be had a different last name then her mother, they asked for proof they were related. That's when everything got uncomfortable. For the bride to be does not share her mother's name has her mother was divorced many years ago. The server then asked to show proof of insurance where it showed that the mother paid for the daughters insurance. Being restaurant owners themselves, the mother questioned why she was being asked this, and mentioned to the server, it was getting very uncomfortable and to just forget about it. We would take our business elsewhere. The father of the bride to be felt horrible for all of us and went in to speak with a manager. The manager was rude, and started spouting off Texas ABC laws, which again our friend was a restaurant owner himself, and said there is no law that says a daughter and a mother have to share the same last name for proof of identification. By this time, the server had already packed up our wine, instead of putting it in nice bags , she put them in plastic bags, and taped them up, as if we were hobos (see pics), and brought us a bottle of wine, which she indicated was a "gift" as we think she felt bad for what had happened. The wine was not even from their winery. It was a bottle of Martha Stewart "Two Buck chuck wine". As we were leaving, the manager was in the bar, and I went over to tell him how horrible the experience was, instead of pulling me to the side to have a conversation he started yelling at me in the bar, he started quoting the same laws he had referred to previously, and told me I was never allowed to come back. I of course, said we were never coming back anyway. He was yelling at me as I left the bar. And yes, owners of the restaurant you can go back and see the video tape and watch him, follow me out yelling at me, in front of your whole restaurant. Customer service 101, even if the customer is wrong, you do not chase them out of the restaurant, make a scene in front of all your other customers, and never follow them to the parking lot,Not just bad customer service, but 100% uncouth. Then, he proceeded to tell me to fuck off as we were standing outside of the restaurant, in front of customers entering the restaurant, my son and our friends. I literally felt like I was at a low budget establishment, or bowling alley. So incredibly disappointed. Shame on you to the owners or lead manager of this establishment. You need to do better. (Im including a picture of how our wine was packed that day- where is the other open bottles from the other visitors were not sent home this way. They were sent home in nice carry bags with the Ventor's name on them)

This venture has been a dream for owners Mike & Rosann Mitrione. Their first vineyard was established in the Texas High Plains in 2018, where they planted around 15 varietals across 27 acres. In 2021, they began designing and planning their new 38-acre Texas Hill Country vineyard. They started planting their estate vineyard in 2022 and have now expanded to 9 acres of vines including Albariño, Petite Sirah, Montepulciano, Syrah, and Aglianico. Since opening to the public in summer of 2023, they've maintained a steadfast commitment to producing 100% Texas wines. When you enter the tasting room, you will immediately notice the impressive Texas granite structure adorned with a symbol that reflects the Ross family's core values: Faith, Family, Friends, and Fellowship. The two-story, eco-friendly tasting facility is semi-circular and built into the hillside - reminiscent of a piazza in Italy. It has an upscale vibe, high-end design, and comfort in mind lending to its artistic flair. Facing east, the tasting room stays cooler both inside and out, enhancing the experience. Another notable feature are the large tables made from repurposed old pecan trees found on the property. Well known Texas winemaker Tim Drake has been helping in the crafting of some very fine wine here. Most focus has been primarily on Italian style wines which reflects the owner's wine travels. Most grapes are sourced from the High Plains vineyard estate with some future Hill Country estate wines to come. First to sample was the '23 Sauvignon Blanc which is sourced from the High Plains estate vineyard. Citrus & melons will be the first notes to light up your wine palate followed by zesty acidity. The second white wine sampled was the '23 Bisaccia. This Italian style blend, named after Michael's grandfather's Italian town, was crafted with 57% Trebbiano, 39% Albariño, and 4% Pinot Grigio. It is dry with dried apricot notes and minerality. An extra white wine treat was the Windswept. This Rhone style blend (yes, departure from the Italian theme, but that's ok) is a blend of 52% Viognier and 48% Roussanne. It is a lovely lighter Rhone style wine with buttery notes, a tango between apricot and pear, and a hint of minerality. Moving to the Rosé wines, the first to sample was the '24 Sangiovese Rosé. It had a pink colored hue with notes of watermelon and strawberry coupled with good acids. It also had more of a Provence style feel to it for an added pleasant. The next Rosé wine sipped was the '24 Vega. It is Malbec based with some raspberry notes and a nice soft and refreshing feel. Moving into the reds, the first to sample was the '23 Grenache. It was aged in Russian oak (yes, for real), exhibited a deep brick rusty color, lots of good fruit forwardness and a touch of smoke. Next, was the '22 Piazza Rossa. This super Tuscan style wine has 67% Sangiovese, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 11% Merlot. To say it has a big nose is an understatement, but you will also be impressed by its deep dark color, and notes of fig. Plus, the finish is to die for! Saving the best for last red to sip, was the '22 Envisage. This right bank Bordeaux style wine (yes, not exactly Italian, but still great) was carefully crafted with 46% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 16% Malbec. It has nice rich dark fruit, some baking spices, good tannins and acidity, and a smooth finish. Overall, it was a very fine and enjoyable tasting session with everything being spot on. When dreams are realized, magic happens. You can see this not only in the quality wines produced, but the tasting room design, décor, and cool vibes. There is a food truck on site that will whip up some good eats to pair with your wine. You will experience great hospitality here as well. The team is very professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to help ensure you have the tasting experience you desire. You will feel well cared for and comfortable here and will want to return. Cheers!

My wife and I spent the evening in Boerne and made a trip to Fredericksburg to get our wine…read moreshipment from another vineyard. We decided to try something new this time around. We were kind of concerned as it is in the opposite direction of all the other places. Upon arrival we were greeted by the host in the outside foyer and taken to our table ( they take reservations but we did not have one). We were sat and promptly greeted by our server. She explained the options for tasting to us and informed us that there was a food truck onsite as well. We opted to do the red wine tasting . The tasting started with a Grenache ( full bodied, very fruity but not sweet) the grapes really shine, next was the Sangiovese which was even better. We went through a series of 5 wines that all were made with exceptional care as none were left to waste. My favorite was the 1 Sangiovese, 2 Grenache, 3 Tempranillo. We also purchased a pizza from the food truck onsite. It was a margarita pizza ( large enough for two to share as a medium snack). If your hungry you made need more. They have more than pizza as well. We bought a bottle of Sangiovese and will definitely return. Excellent live performer and extraordinary service !!
