This was our first time boarding our dog and we were pretty nervous and nervous for him because he can get very anxious. Upon pulling into the facility we noticed it was well gated and liked the privacy screens on the fence so the dogs in care wouldn't go bizerk when we pulled up causing a distraction to the whole place. The lobby smelled clean and had a faint homey cinnamon smell which was comforting (A main priority for us was the smell cause it really tells you a lot about the care of that makes sense) We explained that he didn't do well with other dogs in the past, has pollen allergies since we're still adjusting to San Antonio, and that he had some anxiety medication in case he needed it. Turns out he gets along with other dogs very well and made many friends! He also was able to play and tolerate outdoors much better, and he didn't need his meds the last few days of his stay. Huge improvement! We highly appreciate that they offered 24/7 webcams and believe me, we checked in VERY often. I loved that they sent us pictures and messages daily keeping in communication. We feel the care our pup received was excellent and we will definitely will bring him back anytime we need to board him. Staff is extremely nice and Ariel did a great job on his grooming! We love this place. Our dog Sam is a part of our family and we expect the best for her. This place does not disappoint. Sam loves to get her bath here. She is a lab and the groomer does a deshedding treatment that makes a world of difference. Sam is happy coming and leaving. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. This was my first time here and my first time getting my corgi groomed. I was told he did amazing with no issues. I was pleased with his haircut, although I wish more was taken from the front. Maybe I should've specified that more. It wasn't until later when we were going to bed that I noticed he had an ugly cut near his private area. I understand that trimming that area may be difficult, but I should've at least been told about it. That's really my only complaint. I love the shampoo they used. Up charged on every service. Charged an excitable fee on 7 month old GR during his bath and nail trim. They didn't even trim his nails but charged me extra and the fee. He came home with a nasty rash on his throat after pick-up. Customer service is bad and wasn't even worth trying to have a conversation with anyone. First, I want to let you know that my Stella girl should be okay, after she had to have TONGUE REPAIR SURGERY. Thank you to the dozens of you who have reached out to me offering prayers, support & condolences. Sadly, I can NOT say that I got the same care & concern from the OWNERS of HOFFS HOUNDS. I received a message from the owner last night AFTER I posted online about my experience. She admitted her "groomer" misinformed her & "down played" the "nick" she gave my dog. That's Problem #1. Problem #2: The owner did NOT bother to call us after leaving their facility to check on Stella. A phone call like, "I was informed by my employee that she nicked your dog. I just wanted to see how she was doing." would have gone a long way. Problem #3: The groomer is clearly unskilled, deceitful & poorly trained. Problem #4: HOFF HOUNDS admitted they needed to relook at their internal procedures for notifying the dog owner when incidents like this occur. They just figured that out now? This wasn't one of the FIRST protocols in place before they opened their doors for business? Problem #5: Upon entering their facility this morning with my husband, we were brought back to an office. There was a counter height table with four chairs. Myself, the groomer, & my husband all took seats. The owner remained standing. (Customer service 101 & general social psychology knowledge tells you effective communication skills are not just about the words you use. Body language and tone all matter. She remained standing, thus inserting her dominance & superiority & ultimately her defensiveness over the situation.) Neither the groomer OR the owner wore masks. My husband and I did. Problem #6: I wish I could say that the first words out of the owner's mouth were, "Ma'am, first please tell me, how is Stella doing?" NOT ONCE DURING OUR ENTIRE CONVERSATION DID SHE ASK HOW MY DOG WAS DOING. Problem #7: She did begin by apologizing. She admitted she didn't know how bad it was until she saw my pictures online & her phone was blowing up from people contacting her about it. Again, had she CALLED to check in on my dog she wouldn't have had to learn of her condition via social media & be surprised. Problem #8: As she proceeded to speak, I tried to ask what happened. She cut me off and told me SHE was speaking first. WHOA! Customer service at its finest at HOFFS HOUNDS. Clearly, this immediately made things go sour from there. As she (the owner) continued to speak, I choose to look at the groomer. The owner, STOPPED TALKING because I wasn't looking at her! Parents, teachers, anyone out there: you know how when you are talking to a kid & they aren't looking at you so you stop speaking? How many of you (I know I have) have stopped mid-sentence and told that child, "Look at me while I am speaking to you?" While she didn't say those words- again NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION and her choosing to stop talking, implied such. MIND YOU: she is STANDING at this time. Not once did she sit down & join us at the table to have a conversation. Problem #8: As you can imagine the conversation sadly did NOT go well. She cut me off while I was trying to get further clarification from the groomer & herself & she left the room. Not sure her exact words but they were something to the effect of "this conversation is over". She returned with her checkbook. She proceeded to write a check & I told her to wait. She then cut me off & said "What, you think I won't pay you the rest if the cost ends up being more?" I stated "Uh, no. Had you let me finish, what I WAS going to say is that I'd rather WAIT until I pick up my dog from the vet & get a final total incase the amount is LESS than what we originally paid last night." We left & went to the vet, informing her we'd return with an itemized invoice. Problem #9: We returned. I had invoice in hand. No "Hello". No, "How is Stella?" (Another MISSED OPPORTUNITY to show care/concern) I stated, "Stella is doing okay, thank you for asking." She replies she was glad to hear. Upon leaving, I warned the lady behind me to be careful they don't cut her dogs face. Just a word of caution. Legit. Well within my right to say. The OWNERS yelled at me to get off their property or they would call the police on me. The MALE OWNER THEN got close to me within two feet (NO MASK MIND YOU - I had my mask on) And he proceeded to intimidate me off his property. I stated that I was just warning her about her dog's face getting cut. He said, "We didn't cut your dogs face, we cut her tongue." I said, "No she has facial lacerations too, would you like to come to the car and see?" He replied, "No, I don't care." And something about not caring if I wrote about this experience on social media... So. People, go wherever you would like to get your dog groomed. If you have had a pleasant experience there great, good for you. However, I will not give my business to a facility that treats their clients or their beloved dogs this way. read more

My dog Gilley is fairly new to this wonderful facility. When I first stepped into their location I was treated so kindly, Ashley was wonderful. My dog is a miniature schnauzer and until I started going to Hoff's Hounds he did not Have that much interaction with so many dogs. Now he starts crying when we turn in and greets everyone. He plays and plays, I get to watch him on Webcam. We feel so fortunate to find such great people. There is always someone there to monitor the dogs. read more

My 1-year old Dobbie came back home one day with a torn paw after a doggie day play. It was so obvious because she was limping to even walk. I called Hoffs and expressed my disappointment and concern. They told me that they had no idea that my dog was injured so no medical treatment was given. They then asked me to send an email so the manager can address the concern. I sent an email and never got a response. This is not the first time my dog came home injured like this. I understand dogs play rough but the injuries that my dog came home with were much more than that. However, it upsets me more that the employees don't seem to care to provide enough supervision or to have enough training to take care of that many dogs. They also don't seem to be bothered when a customer has a concern. I do not recommend this place. Leaving your dog here may result in your dog being neglected and not receiving the proper care he/she deserves. read more

Highly recommend for boarding you dog. Critical points for me is opening on time and being able to quickly do the check in/pickup quickly along with caring for my animal. They hit all the marks, opening on time (even on Sun pickup), fully prepared to inprocess the animals. Superbly done. Care was excellent - even sent pics of our dog! Upon pickup, which took less than 5 mins on Sunday afternoon, they gave us a 'report card' letting us know how well our dog ate and also how well they fit in with the other animals during her stay. We live in Dallas but have spent a lot of time in San Antonio and our Annie LOVES Hoff's Hounds! We could not possibly trust our dog anywhere more than we do with them. The owner is also a dog owner and has an incredible love for everyone's dogs, and always makes Annie feel welcome and loved. I took my fur-baby Sophie to Hoff's hounds today for her very first grooming session. She's a Silver/Silky Yorkshire Terrier, and the groomer did an amazing job of cutting her hair short as I wanted it, but more importantly she was able to retain all of Sophie's features that make her the cutest Yorkie there ever was. This was the first weekend my wife and I had to board our dog. We usually take him with us but were unable to. We lived near by and would see the dogs outside playing sometimes and decided to check it out. Hoff's Hounds has a big back yard and front yard with plenty of room for the dogs to run around and play. They have pools set up in as well so the dogs can play in the water and cool off. When we first brought him there, they separated him for a temperament test and slowly introduced him to the other dogs. This provided a safe environment for not only our dog, but the others as well. While we were gone, we got to check in every day and watch him on their webcams. We were able to see the whole facility and watch our dog play with the other dogs. This definitely kept us at ease while we were gone. They took care of him and made sure he had plenty of time to stay active. Our dog gets a little "humpy" sometimes, and even when he was separated from the other dogs "in time out," they would make sure they let him out on his own and played with him. Overall: Highly recommend. Will definitely be taking him back for half day play sessions. Very friendly and caring staff. Our dog was excited to be there and will definitely be back. read more

I have two dogs who I care about deeply. My husband was a dog handler while he was active duty in the Marine Corps. We wouldn't trust our dogs with just any groomer. My husband has high standards and expectations. We've left several groomers because they didn't meet these expectations but I can tell you we've remained loyal to Hoff's Hounds since they opened! The staff is always friendly, they handle my sensitive older dog with a lot of care, and you can tell that they want the animals to have the best experience. The fact that they have cameras on their website shows how transparent they are in their care.
