Well! Bae is craving bbq and you were right there, so we came! Today, we are a party of five coming from an out of town funeral, so you already know, EVERYBODY hungry! We want everything. Starters were the corn nuggets and onion rings. We couldn't wait for the picture. Both, delicious. I got a salad, straight from somebody's nana's kitchen, lettuce, tomato and a slice of onion. Simply Delicious. So many choices, but I decided on the chopped steak and mashed potatoes. Slap somebody, the gravy along is a bam. Other choices were the ribs, alright to me. And, a chopped pork sandwich, mommy said it's good. The field peas, fries and all the sides that I tasted were good. But, the service tops it ALL. This was our first visit to Hog Rock BBQ. Might be out last. Reason being, it was nothing special. The only reason we'd probably go back is for the best onion rings that I've ever tasted!!!!! We ordered the large onion rings and found that it would easily feed 4 for an appetizer. Now for the main review, we got there early because it fills up fast with limited parking. We seated ourselves and was immediately greeted by Hannah our waitress. She was very pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu items. I was going to order the Grilled BBQ Chicken Plate until she told me that it is not actually cooked on a smoker or pit. It was boneless chicken pieces cooked on the flattop with BBQ sauce added. I was looking forward to the smoke chicken taste. I ordered the BBQ plate. Even though Hannah said it was cooked on the PIT, it didn't have the smoked flavor I was expecting. It was kinda bland to me. Not saying it wasn't eatable, it was just bland to me. The baked beans were Ok but kinda tasted like a canned bean with BBQ sauce added. The corn on the cob was good for boiled corn. We also had the small rib plate. The ribs tasted good but lacked the needed smoke flavor. The mac & cheese and potato salad was also good. The interior was nothing special either. One word to describe it, OLD. But we didn't expect anything different. It appeared clean. The prices were very reasonable especially for the amount of food you're given. We brought home about half of our meal to enjoy later in the day. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience at all... Stopped into this place after paddling down a river and I was frikkin starving. I came to the right place. Portions were absurdly huge. I went in with maximum hunger and left with a to go box after filling completely up. Prices were great, pork plate was delicious, and they have corn nuggets...which adds at least 1 star to any review. Who doesn't love corn nuggets? The mashed potatoes are the best ever. The service is great and the BBQ ribs are tender and wonderful. You have to go early or late to get a table. It apparently is a local favorite. The Banana pudding is unbelievable. This restaurant isn't fancy but the food should be 5 star. This is an amazing down home place. Just go hungry because the servings are huge and the ribs are very large. One huge rib is a normal serving size but order several because you aren't going to be happy with just one. On the "bypass" in downtown Wetumpka is this oasis of southern goodness. Got there about 1 pm on a weekday, and the place was still busy--always a good sign-- with retirees, bikers, suits and regular Joes and Janes. There's a counter and enough tables: whatever you choose you are met with a drawled "hun" and a menu. Service was excellent. Locals were chomping down on the daily meat and three specials--tempting--but at a place named "Hog Rock" you gotta go for the BBQ. Not the least bit disappointed: the pork sandwich was huge, moist, plenty of homemade sauce, with a side of more if you wanted it. Bama 'Cue at its best. There are no words, if I could give less than a star I would. We're new to the area and stopped here for lunch based on Yelp reviews. 46 years of combined military service...we've seen some things and eaten in some pretty sketchy places, but this place takes the cake. EVERYTHING was filthy, the tables, the seating, the floors, the silverware - old food, grime, dust, grease - everywhere and on everything. When we walked in, one of the employees was filling sauce cups out of a big bowl with a spoon. She was sitting at a table out in the open by the front door where customers are coming and going, in and out, sneezing and coughing with no gloves, no mask (that should have been our first cue to turn right around and eat elsewhere). Thankfully the air conditioner above our table didn't kick on because we would have been showered in filth and God knows what else. I'm sure there were one or ten more health code violations floating around. Our food was mediocre at best. The salad consisted of wilted lettuce and chunks of tomato, my daughter's grilled cheese was cold, and everything else was overly greasy. Our waitress was impatient, seemed annoyed that we had questions about the menu, and definitely wasn't welcoming. Hog Rock Q in Wetumpka Alabama is right up there with the worst bbq I've ever had in Alabama. Granted, my benchmark for Alabama bbq is Brenda's in Montgomery, the original Dreamland in Tuscaloosa, along with Archibald's, and the now shuttered Sam's in Montgomery. Jim n' Nicks knows how to do Q right also. Country's BBQ was an old, memorable favorite, now gone too. But Hog Rock was awfully, dismally disappointing. Ordered a take-out pork plate with baked beans and Cole slaw. The pig tasted like it was days old with no smoke flavor whatsoever, the sauce was memorable only because of how blandly bad it was, the beans tasted straight outta the can and the slaw was okay after I added a bit of sugar to balance out the tartness of the vinegar. And after only two bites, I tossed the Texas toast. It's hard to understand how this place has lasted as long as it has. Next time I'll fire up my offset smoker stoked with oak and hickory, put on a Boston Butt, and enjoy some slow cooked Q when Jim 'n Nicks ain't a handy stop. I'll end this review on a positive note...the server was very attentive and pleasant. read more

We were passing through Wetumpka and decided to look for somewhere to grab a quick bite. This place is not much to look at and we have passed it by actually hundreds of times on our way to Pensacola, and never stopped. Today was our lucky day, because we will be back. My Husband and I both ordered burgers and they were delicious. The service was excellent, as well. We were in and out in just around 30 mins. Our burgers were made of homemade beef patties and a large slice of tomato, onions, lettuce , and you could dress it with mustard, ketchup, and Mayo. My Husband got his with two types of cheese and a side order of fries. But my burger was so large that I couldn't even eat the entire sandwich, I took part of it with me for later. At first I wanted to give Hog Rock a 1-star just because my waitress was wearing an Auburn shirt, but based on the food, it didn't deserve a one. The parking lot was full on a Thursday night and the atmosphere isn't boring. I went with the Rib and BBQ combo. At first glance and the price I paid (14.49), it seemed like it wasn't as big of a portion that I have seen from other BBQ places. I was given only 2 ribs. However, I have seen much worse. Luckily, that would be my only complaint. The ribs were as soft and tender as they could be. They were the St.Louis spare rib type and was really easy to chew. It had a good rub also. The pork was just as tender and was mixed with the Alabama special...pickles and ketchup - based BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce was mild, tangy, and had some black pepper mixed in. They also had a hot version of it that seemed to just have pepper flakes added to it. It had some heat to it but overall, not very hot. The potato salad and cole slaw was really creamy. The slaw was the better of the two. It had a light sweet taste with that good ole slaw taste. Sweet tea was perfect. Besides the size of the portion, Hog Rock is a Rock Solid choice for BBQ in Weptumpka. read more
