If I had to describe Hog Wild in a single word, I'd go with "uninspired". It's like they are just going through the motions. Great brisket is moist, falls apart in your mouth, and doesn't have chewy chunks of fat that you'd rather spit out than swallow. Of those three qualities, only the moistness was satisfactory. In fairness, their barbecue sauce was good, as were the beans. The potato salad was okay. But circling back to the meat - that's why we were there, and honestly it was below average. Short story: One time we were driving down the highway, hungry, and we exited so we could try Hog Wild. It was closed, so we went to Hong Kong Buffet next door and absolutely loved it. On a later road trip, we exited to go to Hong Kong Buffet. It was closed, so we finally got to try Hog Wild. Circle complete! read more

Note to self, and to anyone else, do not order food to go from here, online. Go inside and order your food to go. My meal deal, was suppose to be pulled pork sandwich, Coleslaw and a drink, and I asked for extra bbq sauce to go. I got a pulled pork, with no extra sauce, mac n cheese, and no drink. My father was the one who picked up my order, and we live out in Bennington. It's just a real shame. Tough review, so go middle and explain. Been going to HWB a long time. I 'think' they started in Hutchinson, where I lived. Awesome Q! Then they expanded to S Rock, near where I worked. Wow, awesome lunch place! 5 star at these places! The Salina store several times on trips - hit or miss. This time 3 stars. Why? A moth in the ice dispenser, no condiment utensils, used fork unfortunately touched my hands. The main reason? The brisket was dry, maybe left over. The ribs, pork, curly fries were outstanding! One star is all this place needs for it's poor service I believe it was sometime in January and we were on the road headed South on 35 and needed a bite to eat It was about 8:00 pm and we made the mistake of pulling into the drive thru We sat in line for exactly 28 minutes until it was our turn at the pickup window and then sat there for another 13 minutes We ordered 2 Carolinas with EXTRA napkins since we were on the road eating it in the car. We had just hit the road and got into the bag to find ONE Carolina and one bun with some pork on it and NOTHING else. Really? I asked again at the window when (Derick) handed me the bag if there were extra napkins and home heavy set fella said yes. (Derick) tried to help but the other guy was a complete jerk acting like he couldn't handle the pressure of 5 cars in the drive thru and little to NO ONE inside. And to make things better yet, IT WAS ALL ICE COLD, not just the slaw on the one but the bun, meat, and all of it. So I called back and they said they were sorry, which really sucked and they would get us one if we stopped there again and took my name. They weren't even busy except the drive thru and the product SUCKED customer service SUCKED Do yourself a favor folks next time you get a little hungry and pass this sorry excuse of a restaurant by. Hog Wild is a regional BBQ chain with a dozen and a half restaurants spread between Wichita and Council Bluffs, IA--plus an outlier in Phoenix. It covers the basics without pretension: brisket, pork, ribs (pork), sausage, chicken, ham and turkey. This is fast food BBQ--order at the counter, pick up at the counter after just enough time to get your drink. However, the speediness is just another plus for Hog Wild. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked and not overly sauced with the restaurant's mild and sweet sauce. Mild and hot sauces were on tables. The pork had a nice balance of tender inside meat and chewier, crispier outside meat. Two sides and Texas toast completed the dinner plate. When asked if the slaw was vinegar or cream based an employee replied it was sweet. I ordered it anyway. It turned out to have a cream dressing that wasn't sweet. In fact, the slaw had no taste except that of chopped cabbage. A little salt helped. Mac and cheese was creamy and really excelled, however. Texas toast was unnecessary but also stood out: buttery and toasted soft. There's plenty of space at this Hog Wild, which makes it great for groups and families. read more

We ordered food to go, as this was during the Covid shut down. The food from this place was a decent overall. Don't know about the service, as we didn't try to eat in the establishment. We ordered a family meal with beef brisket and pulled pork. Sides we got were the coleslaw, and the baked beans. We also got an extra side of potato salad. The overall meal was pretty good in flavor, the coleslaw is one of the better that I've had at a local restaurant. All of it seemed pre-prepared and like it was mass produced, however the quality and taste was delicious. The buns appear to have been locally bought. I was in town for business this past week and asked the folks I was working with what the best restaurants were in town. They all had favorites, but Hog Wild was at the top of everyone's list. Of course I had to go! I got an order to go on Tuesday nighr, and I got the 1 Meat Dinner with brisket, baked beans, and mac & cheese. The brisket was some of the best I've had anywhere! Tender, not dry, and full of flavor without being over the top. The portion was generous. The barbecue sauce complemented the brisket very well. The baked beans were really good, and the mac & cheese was pretty good but not the best I've ever had. That's ok., though...i enjoyed every bite! And I had to get dinner there again on Thursday night too. I got the same thing because I enjoyed it so much. I will be back in Salina at some point and will go again. Ribs were smoky and pulled easily off the bones. The brisket was plain and not noteworthy. Was not offered options in sauce. Mac and cheese and slaw unremarkable. FANTASTIC barbecue -- 4.5 stars!!! My mouth is watering just remembering my trip to Hog Wild... The bf and I split a feast which was great because we got to try a ton of things. We ordered: Carolina pulled pork sandwich (pulled pork, sauce and coleslaw), smokestack sandwich (hot links and brisket), giant stuffed baked potato (sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon bits and green onions)and two ribs. And the cobbler slices at the register looked so good we almost ordered one. ALMOST. Sheesh we're not TOTAL pigs ;-) Everything we ordered was delicious. The pulled pork was good, but I don't really care for coleslaw on my sandwiches. The brisket was so tender and melt-in-your-mouth fantastic. The hot links were surprisingly spicy -- watch out for that kick at the end! The white bread sandwich buns are nothing to write home about, but with all that decadent meat inside they really shouldn't be the memorable part of the experience. The baked potato was giant (other patrons ordered just a potato with some meat on top for their entire meal) and it was cooked to perfection with toppings spilling all over the plate. You could peel the meat off the ribs with your fork, which I particularly like because I find it quite involved to have to get my own meat off bones. Like I said: everything was delicious! This is an order-at-the-counter-and-find-your-own-table establishment. There are booths and tables that can be pushed together to fit larger parties, each stocked with a roll of paper towels that you're definitely going to need. It was a snowy Sunday around noon when we visited and it was maybe a third full at its peak. As barbecue goes, this is some of the best I've ever had. I had the rib plate with curly fries and slaw. Hub had Carolina pulled pork also with curly fries. Ribs were meatiest fall off the bone ribs I have EVER had. Coleslaw was perfect. Fries were just salty enough without being too salty. Hub's Carolina pulled pork sandwich had the slaw on it and it was delish! I shared my ribs with him (natch) and he thought they were good enough to get more to take back to our RV for on the road tomorrow.
