Our pilot, Jordan, let us help set up the balloon and build the structure in the basket for the propane gizmo and it was really fun getting to be part of blowing balloon. Jordan also did such an amazing job maneuvering around the trees and over to things we wanted to see. His ground crew, Geoff and Anne, were friendly and helpful, and navigated perfectly to the field where we landed.

After a couple of unexpected delays (and a touch of vertigo on his part!), the big day finally arrived... and it was so worth the wait. I flew with Pilot Joe and two fellow adventurers on a breathtaking sunset ride I will never forget. Drifting peacefully above fields and neighborhoods as the sky turned shades of gold and pink was nothing short of magical. It was quiet, awe-inspiring, and deeply calming -- more incredible than I ever imagined. Today, I'm focusing on Spark Lab inside the new Museum Experience Center that…read more opened in April 2026. Spark Lab offers an opportunity to invent, create, and explore! It was developed by Smithsonian's Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation. It is a great intergenerational space! Parents, grandparents, and older siblings build right along with younger children. There is an eating spot, the Harvest Cafe, a few feet away from Spark Lab. Although, Conner Prairie wants children under 16 to visit the exhibits with an adult. It's a great place to grab a snack after generating all that creativity. The space is also conveniently located by a ramp to the grounds if your family wants to visit 1836 Prairie Town or take a tram ride to The Junction area. The tethered hot air balloon is also near the ramp outside Spark Lab!

But I sadly think it's warranted in this case. I bought a Soaring Adventures GC in order to try a hot air balloon ride for the first time. When I got the list of providers in Indiana, I saw that there were only two, but figured I wouldn't have any problems. Wrong. One of the providers was no longer working with Soaring Adventures, and the other I contacted said he could no longer accept their certificates because the company hadn't paid him in over 6 months. I contacted the company and submitted a refund request, but haven't heard anything back and am guessing I'm out that money. My advice: go directly through the company if you want a hot air balloon ride. I think they have good intentions, but it sounds like Soaring Adventures is way behind on their bills with no hope of getting caught up. :(
