I am a frequent eater here. Hokkaido has never disappointed! Everything is delicious and the atmosphere is very nice.

I have been here several times and it is just not that good. Food is expensive and bland. Do not get the Lemon Chicken. Sushi is okay but there was a lot of rice in each one. Not worth getting the unlimited sushi. Front lady/owner is nice but the service by the waiters is always horrible. Restaurant ambiance is very nice and clean. The fish on the floor by the entrance is very creative. The unlimited Korean BBQ is not worth the price either. The chicken satay and the bulgogi are the best options. Everything else was just plain. The sauce provided did not have any flavor and the other was just a version of soy sauce. Rice and soup were okay. But they do not provide complimentary banchan! I have never been to a Korean BBQ that does not provide free side dishes. Instead of butter on the grill, they use oil and it burns easily and the server is reluctant to change the grill. Only plus side is that occasionally there are coupons sent through the mail to use for this place. read more

Not very good. There was no sushi on the "all you can eat sushi special" -- only rolls. The Cal rolls were bland and had no sesame seeds on the outside - nothing at all. Also, very expensive. Will never return. Wish we had gone to Sushi Polo at Metro Center. read more

We eat here a lot. Food is always pretty good.. We were just there on a Thursday evening and waited over 10 min and nobody came to seat us! So we sat ourselves and waited. I made eye contact with several servers and even tried to talk to one who just walked by me... I have never left a 1 star review before... We got up walked out slowly and told the bartender what happened.. She said sorry but never offered to seat us again... guessing the owners were not around so nobody cares!!! read more

The is the worse sushi I have ever had in my life. The flavor was terrible. My wife got a dragon roll and it had a small fish bone in it. She pulled out the bone. She couldn't eat it after that in fear of more bones. She told the waiter and he looked at us like "what do you want me to do about it". By the way this was the male waiter with the man bun and the scraggly beard. She asked him to take it back and she wanted a different roll. She ordered another roll, another mistake. The next roll was even worse. She didn't finish that either. Not only was the food terrible the wait staff acted like we were putting them out. We had to ask three times for lemon for our water. Now, here is the big kicker. When we got our bill he didn't take the dragon roll with the bones in it off the bill. I didn't even want to argue. I just wanted out of there. I have been to Hokkaido a number of times. I am convinced the owner, Raymond, is a Type A personality. He pays attention to every detail. The china and silverware are of high quality. The food is always fresh. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. It should be on everyone's bucket list. read more

Ate out with a larger group. Overall service was quick and friendly for a large group. Had the endless sushi; both appetizers were good, but sushi was not overly exciting. Sushi rice had a gummy texture that took away from the overall flavor. I'd go back to try the grill, but not the sushi. read more

Best Chinese restaurant in Peoria that we have had till now. We ordered Duck, Taiwanese beef noodles, Kung pao chicken, Twice cooked pork, fillet mignonette , Mapa tofu, and a vegetables and noodles stir fry. We were a group of eight and the dishes were more than enough and the best east Asian food we had so far in Peoria. The duck is a two course meal in itself and definitely a must. Our group had a person from Beijing and another one from Taiwan, moreover majority of the team had lived in different regions of east Asia for time so pretty familiar with Chinese food. The cuisine here has more Cantonese orientation. The best part about this place is the staff, extremely friendly and would recommend following their suggestions. I went for the first time to Hokkaido today. There were 3 other tables filled in the Sushi area that I was eating with one other person with me. We each ordered the all you can eat "emperor's" menu. $25;95 a person. It was worth paying the extra 5 dollars for the extended menu as it added many selections to the menu. The appetisers were very nice, starting was a tasty miso soup. We enjoyed the crispy gyoza, tempura shrimp which was for me surprisingly nice with crunchy panko bread crumbs without being too oily. The selection of Nigiri sushi was very nice, and the quality of the sashimi and the fish in general was very fresh. The assortment of maki (rolls) was abundant and enjoyable. On the down side, The rise that was used to make the nigiri sushi and miki seemed to be overcooked, mushi, and did not have the seasoning that sushi rice normally has. This was a disappointment Overall, we were happy for the meal, and will come back again to sample other things from their extensive menu. I hope they fix their sushi rice. Hokkaido gets a well earned four stars from my wife and I. We are big on atmosphere, and Hokkaido has some uniquely fun attributes. A shallow koi pond lining the walkway, a drum that you can pound in the entry way and three separate dining areas (hibachi, bar and sushi areas), which my wife and I agreed help keep each area quiet. I got the "bento box" which started with miso soup and a garden salad. I wasn't too fond of the salad as it consisted of only lettuce and dressing. But the main course was excellent... California rolls, yummy tempora (a new thing for me!) and spring rolls. My wife got a nice orange chicken dish and warm peanut roll sushi. A slight downside is service was a little slow but we were enjoying our conversation so we hardly noticed! :) read more

We were in town for the weekend, googled sushi restaurants, this one had great reviews so we decided to try it. What a great surprise!!! Staff was very friendly, seated us right away. Our waiter was great. Very accommodating to my sushi order, I'm allergic to avocado, so he was great about taking it out of my order. And the sushi!!! Nice decor, more expensive than higher quality sushi buffets, quality/flavor is lacking. Service was fine, everyone was polite and they checked on us often. Piña colada was delicious, Caribbean breeze not great. The "Bubble teas" are actually milk teas, and not that big...they fill the cup with ice. Maybe they use different nomenclature down here...in Chicago bubble tea is a smoothie, not a milk tea. Maybe okay as a choice in peoria, could never command their prices if there was more competition. read more

Food is pretty good but the service is TERRIBLE. Been here so many times continuing to give it a chance but don't know why I continue to go. Takes forever to be seated at a table, takes way too long than it should for someone to take your order, employees don't come up to ask if anything is needed. Tables are never cleared off. They need to HIRE MORE EMPLOYEES. Employees are very nice just understaffed and don't take consideration of their guests. Would give one star but the food is pretty good deserves a second. read more

Ate there last night. After standing around at the hostess stand for 5 minutes wondering if anyone was going to actually greet us and put our name on some list, we almost walked out. There was a conversation amongst the guest about how long it would take to get someone to come over to us. I told my wife "The food better be really good or we are never coming back." Luckily for them it was. She had cucumber salad and TNT Bowl which she liked. I had Mexican roll (very spicy) and a vegetable with beef plate which I ate every drop, after picking out all the nuts. Word of advice for restaurant owners - if there are peanuts in a dish you really should put that on the menu for people with allergies. They need to seriously improve the service, like have someone who's only job is greeting incoming guests. But since it was much better than Sushigawa, we will be back. read more

This is a place that I tried as an introduction to sushi. I was very impressed. The atmosphere the moment you walk in makes you forget that you are in Peoria, IL. I got their $20 sushi Buffett option so I could try different types of sushi. I thought it was all delicious, well prepared (visually as well as taste), and the servers were friendly and helpful. My first experience ordering and dining in was not too bad cause the food was good I will admit however, my second experience made me rethink coming here again due to lack of communication and understanding when ordering food especially when specified food allergies and then to make it to go. Then upon arriving at my residence to find out the order was all wrong, Needless to say I had to travel back to the restaurant for them to correct my order in which was still terrible as well as the service upon their mistake and no apology was given this whole time but only attitude and sarcasm. We did Hibachi and ordered sushi as an appetizer. Well priced, huge portions. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Wait staff was very attentive. We never had to ask for a single thing...refill, box, check. They were right on top of everything. It was very hot in the restaurant, however. Scorcher outside today too and no relief inside the building. I came for lunch a few months ago. Sushi lunch deal was a great value. I was with a large group and service was quick, sushi was excellent. My husband is not as big of a fan of sushi as me, but he loved the shrimp tempura rolls, and his steak. read more

I love Hokkaido! I've been many times now, including to the hibachi grill side, and I've enjoyed every visit. I think this is the best sushi in Peoria. I love how they redecorated the old china buffet, and they even offer craft beer, including Dogfish head. Sushi is top quality and generally very fast on delivery to table. Bleck. Just. meh. Mushy rice. Tepid fish. Poor service. Sushi rolls for family of three arrived at 3 different times and not as described. Scorpion roll lacked Makiro. Waiter couldn't understand order or incorrect descriptions of rolls. Green roll sea bass sliced so thin as to be non-existent. Rind left on lime was inedible on roll-I almost CHOKED! ( and mushy rice so like thick pudding added to throat clogging nasty! Sapporo came Ina CAN! Dear lord people, it was just lame. Save your hard earned cash for a fancy steak dinner or prime rib. I don't usually review before making three visits to a restaurant, but I don't think I'll be going back. Went for lunch today with my daughter and parents. I had the tempura bento box, $17, not worth 10. Shrimp was mostly batter and breading. Only flavor was of old oil. Tempura veg pieces were either too big or too small. Dipping sauce was not what I am used to. Overly thin and salty, no sweetness. Came with some Americanized roll made with under seasoned rice, over ripe avocado, and soggy cucumber. Gari was sour. Three pot stickers were okay, but not hot. The side serving of rice was also not very warm and was dry. Iced tea was alright but slow to be refilled. Daughter had a Korean beef stir fry with grilled beef and substituted noodles for rice. She has had same with chicken in the past and said it was better. I tried the pieces of the beef, all were dry and almost tasteless with a tough part I had to spit out. The onion soup app was okay, and the diner salad was not. Salad was older lettuce, over dressed. The clincher was the Peking duck my parents shared. Skin was crisp as it should be and the carving and presentation was not terrible, however the meat was almost totally unseasoned. It was severed with cucumber and scallion matchsticks, duck sauce, and awful, almost inedible, steamed buns. Midway through the meal they were presented with chopped duck salad for lettuce wraps. I didn't try it or hear comments about it. The duck was the special, on the board for $29.99 for a half duck . When the bill came for the lunch, the total was $99. We were charged for for a whole duck instead of for the special we specifically ordered. When I complained to the server, he just mumbled unintelligibly and walked away. I've only been here for the cooking tables, but the filet is so tender and delicious. The fried rice is probably the best in Peoria with lots of garlic and other flavors. The cooks are friendly and put on a decent show. Their brand of plum wine is delicious and comes out nicely chilled. It is kind of pricey for just a normal night out, but makes a good time for special occasions. read more

We've been here before and enjoyed our meal so we were so surprised at our meal tonight. My husband and I both ordered chicken dishes. When it was served, it looked wonderful...large slices of chicken. However, when we tried to eat this"chicken" it was like sawing thru rubber and basically had the taste and mouth feel of soft chewy rubber bands. If this was chicken then I suspect it was mostly skin and other non desirable parts ground up ten reconstituted into a loaf and then sliced to look like chicken... totally inedible. I have been to Hokkaido three times. The first two times were excellent so I convinced a large group of friends to reserve their "Hokkaido Room." We called a month in advance to reserve the room for 15-20 people and called the day of to confirm we still had it. We got there, and they had given up the room to a group already. Yes, they TAKE reservations, but they DO NOT KEEP THEM. Idiot manager doesn't know what the word reservation means and said that a group of 25 came in an hour before our reservation requesting the room so he gave it to them. Completely ruined our night and we left. I will never return there no matter how good the sushi was. read more
