We visited on a Friday for dinner. We started with complimentary edamame, miso soup, and hot & sour soup. The soups were hot, good and came out promptly. For mains, we ordered two sushi rolls (Philadelphia and Seafood Tempura) and udon noodle soup. My bad, but I didn't read the menu closely. I prefer Philly rolls with the salmon is inside, but the salmon was on top here. I thought the combo udon noodles would be stir fried; however, I missed that the menu said soup. The udon soup was enormous and can be shared by at least two people. The broth had good flavor, and I loved all the fresh veggies (broccoli, carrot, mushrooms). Quick and friendly service. Went here last night for dinner as I had heard lot about it and overall, was not disappointed. (Note: Can be slightly confusing as the sign outside says Sushi Ko.) From the outside the place looks small, but it is quite a decent size inside and is very cozy. Sat down a d the sushi maker (very nice and hilarious) brought over some free edamame while we looked over the menu. Ordered the spring rolls and crab rangoon for apps. The crab rangoon was solid, but spring rolls were fried and didn't have a lot of flavor. My friend, who doesn't care for sushi, ordered the sweet and sour chicken, which she said was pretty standard. I ordered a Golden roll and a California rolls, both of which were excellent. Food is decent, the rolls are sometimes extremely big, like too big for 1 bite. The spicy baby octopus is my favorite appetizer, along with the tuna tar tar (which can sometimes be salty. The shrimp udon was a let down. The shrimps are like ant size. And they wont make the shrimp and tempura together. Its one of the other, not both. I think they could have... but they dont want to? Idk... the lady who served us at the time was older so she didnt seem to give a damn lol. She was not friendly she kept sighing everytime she walks around getting stuff we asked for. At one point she wouldnt come back when i needed more water so i got up and got myself the jug of water. Thats when she kinda pretended to care a bit and came over and apologized. The easiest sushi romance I've ever met, what a menu! So much enticing options that all came out except for the eggrolls in amazing and tasty presentation and going down. Us three guys like to think we are raw fish veterans, hardly a hold back on opinion but this place made it way too easy. We summoned a huge appetizer of edamame, rolls, pot stickers, and Rangoon. I've never seen such a setup before! It was a sight to down a crab deal, then nibble a soy bean, chomp on a pork package, it didn't stop! The eggrolls as mentioned were the weak part of the meal, veggie and seemingly rolled out of a box. Not quite a fresh tangy easy to eat mix of rolled up stuff I'm used to, but the others made up for it. A daring one among us went for sake. It was a party after all those appetizers anyway; interestingly it arrived warm. Can recommend trying it heated up, entirely different flavor sensations and evolving into more alcoholic acidity as it cools which is the bitter driving me away experience I recall from other sakes. And it was only to get better, the rolls showed up like an advertisement for peace and good will towards all mankind. It was difficult to know how to start so I took pictures and posted it to everywhere hoping to make many eyes jealous. Who cares how socially desperate I look when this food looks this good?! We all dove in and immediately confirmed we must get back here. The house special roll, what a surprise, a winner, one for the books, to judge all future rolls by. It's a must try. Sushi Pop is a restaurant located in a strip mall with lots of parking. As you walk in you are greeted with a smile and welcoming attitude. We were seated and offered drinks soon after we were seated. I loved the complimentary edamame. We ordered a Dragon roll which is eel, cucumber, avacado sushi. I loved the avacado flavor. The vegetable spring roll was full of fresh crunchy veggies. I also drank plum wine mixed with shot of sake which was delicious but a tad bit too sweet for me to have more than one. I was disappointed that they ran out of one of their Japanese beers. Also I did not like dirty dish tub sitting adjacent to the sushi prep table. However the overall experience was pleasurable with subtle background music and most other patrons eating quietly thus creating a relaxing evening. read more

This is still some of the best sushi in town, if not the best. This establishment used to Be Sushi "Popo", if you are not aware. The owners have not changed, I am told. They simply went through a facelift and name change to reinvigorate things, since lots of competition has established itself in Peoria recently. Things that make this sushi restaurant good: the rice is prepared in a very characteristic way, a method that is not shared with customers usually because of competition, but in the end gives you a sushi rice that is ideally moist and well-textured. The fish is good quality, they have a lot of maki flavors that remind me of when I lived back West. Another unique menu treat to this restaurant is that they do several Chinese dishes very well, in case you want to mix things up. You can get a relatively inexpensive Chinese lunch dish with some great quality sushi on the side. How many other places can you do that? The Chinese appetizers are unique and well-prepared as well. Food snobs are going to tease me for saying this but the rangoons here are great! Particular rolls I've enjoyed: the sunrise roll, the spider, and anything with spicy tuna in it. 4/5 stars for most sushi, 5/5 for the Peoria area. read more

Facility also needs some work, bad paint, thick dust on decorations, and flooring breaking/detaching. Will try again because our friends highly recommend. If I could give this zero stars I would. I called an order for pickup and got a caterpillar roll and a dynamite roll with soy wrap. I have gotten rolls with soy wrap from shops all around Peoria with no issues. These rolls smell disgusting and tastes worse. I took one bite of both and then spit both out. My friend could not swallow it either. We called to let them know we were dissatisfied and they were rude and confrontational saying that is what happens when you use soy wrap. That has never been the case with any sushi I have gotten and they tried to say it wasn't their fault I didn't like it. Myself and 3 friends came for lunch today. I'd heard this place had the best sushi in town so we tried it out. Out of all of the sushi you see here, only about 4 pieces were eaten. Our sushi was warm and was NOT cooked. None of the ingredients were even cool. The dumpling sauce had vinegar in it too which is way weird. Over all, we'll never be back and we're super disappointed and our bill was so expensive and they didn't even offer to take ANY money off of the bill considering we didn't eat any of the food. Also called Sushi Ko, which is a little confusing. I went with my boyfriend and his sister and her husband. The sushi chef greeted us at the door as they were regulars and hadn't been in recently. The dining area was quiet and cozy and there was not much of a wait time for food which I liked. The fried rice sides are plenty big enough for two or more people to share. I tried all their recommendations for sushi rolls and was very pleased with what was served. My only complaint would be that they tended to fall apart, but the flavor was perfect. read more

Called the restaurant and they said they were too busy to help me with my issue. The food we did get was all terrible. The general tso chicken was so dry we were literally pulling threads of dry chicken that were like fish bones from our mouths. The sushi was shredded like it was cut with butter knives. No rice, chopsticks or appetizers we ordered were in the bag. The Dan Dan noodles were way over cooked and soggy and also tasted terrible. 8 of us eating and we ended up throwing everything out half way through the meal and cooking frozen pizzas. The spider maki sushi was good and fat, but almost too big to the point it fell apart before it even made it in my mouth. The rice in the sushi was a bit too squishy too. Shrimp udon: broth was okay but the few shrimp that were inside were tiny. I've never had Dan Dan Mein before. It was also disappointing. It was just a Chinese interpretation of spaghetti. This is the best sushi restaurant in Peoria and my go-to dinner place whenever we go out. Hadi, the sushi chef, makes everyone feel at home. The fish is high-quality and the rice is perfectly cooked and seasoned. Definitely try the sushi combo (the nigiri is amazing!), mango maki, spider maki, seaweed salad (yes, really!) and pork potstickers. I ordered the 6 piece sushi combo, 6 piece nigiri and the choice of tekka or salmon maki. The eel and the miso soup that came with the combo was about all that was worth our $50 tab. The fresh fish a) smelled like fish...which everybody knows is never a good thing and b) some looked like it may have been partially cooked. The sticky rice was too sticky and they put too much in the nigiri. We also ordered shrimp fried rice and shredded pork dish. Both lack in flavor. Overall, I do not recommend this place if you are use to quality sushi. It was a learning experience and I am glad that I went so that I could cross this place off my list. read more

Probably the best straight traditional Sushi place in Peoria. They have a chinese menu as well, which is very good as well. The service can be decidedly slow at times. Which kind of sucks because the food is very good, but if you're in a hurry, this place will devour your extra time... This place can be expensive if you're a foody and want to try a bunch of different things, or you go with a bunch of people, and split the bill, all sharing the plates of Sushi. The fish wasn't very fresh, the rolls were just bland wads of rice and the "fresh" salmon nigiri was partially cooked (like someone accidentally blanched it for 3 seconds). My husband and I have lived and traveled all over the country and this was honestly the worst sushi I have ever had. The spicy tuna roll and spider roll were both supposed to be spicy but were just extremely sweet. The salmon sushi was overly sweet as well. The eel sushi was the only thing we actually enjoyed. My husband also had the general tso's chicken which was over cooked and very bland. I'd recommend sushi or chinese from Hy-Vee before I'd recommend this place. read more
