Solid shave ice spot for anyone living or visiting the east side of the Salt Lake Valley. Portion sizes are big and flavors are plentiful. I'd highly recommend ice cream in your shave ice--the mango sorbet was top notch! The workers were very friendly and gave recommendations with their favorite flavors. Because this location is in a shopping complex parking lot, there aren't a lot of places to sit. There are 2-3 tables and a few loose chairs, but if you get there when it's busy, like my group did, you'll be stuck standing in the heat, since the shave ice is a is messy and difficult to eat in your car. Adding a few extra tables and/or some shade would be a big step forward! read more

On Wasatch Blvd by Olympus cove is this little shack you would find in Hawaii serving up nice shaved ice. This location has plenty of parking even tho it can get crowded at night with tweens. We went early morning and the lady helping us was so nice. The small which is plenty big and tipped over the first time but was quickly remade at no charge, was tasty. It was $4. We got the kids rainbow which I couldn't tell the difference in flavors so lose a star. I will go back to try mango or more tropical flavors. I liked the fact the flavors weren't too sweet. The ice was good not Hawaii good but a great alternative to a slurpee. Fun drink, worth it for the price and can't beat the view. Btw Beaumont is across the parking lot. read more

The lines can get pretty long, but that's to be expected for a family-friendly destination. Get a shaved ice, or try one of the "Hawaiian-style" modifications (ice cream in the middle, li hing mui spray, coconut flakes, condensed milk topping). Delicious! Authentic shave ice. Brings me back to 4 days ago when I was eating Jo Jo's Avenue shave ice in Kauai. Mmmmm.

Hokulia is by far the best shaved ice around. This is the first place I go when I am in town. It is a wonderful atmosphere with fun music and great employees. The shaved ice are HUGE and are a great price. I am always amazed by how many flavors they have and have loved every kind I have tried. Snowcones are my favorite, and Hokulia does it right!! Each time I have been, they always make my snowcone perfectly. I always get icecream on the bottom. There are some key points when it comes to what makes a good snowcone: 1. The ice texture 2. Amount of syrup applied 3. Price 4. Size Hokulia nails it on all of these. The ice texture is soft and flaky but not "snowy". They apply enough syrup to coat all the ice but not so much that it is drowning in syrup. The price is right for the size of the snowcone (they are huge). Hokulia will be a weekly stop for me during the hot SLC Summer!!! read more

I was never a fan of snow cones growing up, but the shave ice here is so much better than the stuff I grew up with. The smooth, snowy texture makes all the difference in the world and there are so many flavor options that you are guaranteed to find several that you love. I also love how you can put ice cream in the center which gives a great change in texture and flavor part way through. I am an often visitor of snow cone shacks in the summer time, and Hokulia is the best shave ice I have tasted in the valley. The texture and many flavors are super tasty, especially while indulging yourself after a long sweaty day. I would recommend some flavors, but nearly all of them are good. I'm a fruity guy, and if you are too, try any fruit. My top 3 are pina colada, mango, or strawberry colada/daquiri. Stay away from root beer though, that flavor is a lost cause. read more

We love the Millcreek location. The staff is courteous and kind. My kids love the unlimited flavor combinations. No skimping on the portion size either. We have never been disappointed. The long summer night lines attest to its awesomeness. Go early and go often!!! read more

This would have been a five star review: Great menu Great choice of flavors Nice kid working and answered all of my questions I placed my order and handed the kid my money. He took it with his blue latex gloves on. In that split second thoughts flash through my brain: "I'll bet this kid has no problem touching every dirty, nasty thing around because he's got those gloves on to protect himself from all.of.the.germs.everywhere!!! Money thats been in some kids sweaty shoe, in a strippers g-string, fallen on the floor of a port-a-potty...(you get the picture). And I'll bet he puts that money in the register, gives me change, and makes my shaved ice with them on." Sure enough he had no problem patting and shaping and patting and shaping and pouring syrup on my shaved ice. I wanted to say something to him, however, I had my teen with me and she would have been mortified if I did. Came home and it went right in the trash. This place is great, if you can handle the germs, or don't have a problem asking the kid to put on new gloves from what I am sure is a box of 1000 latex gloves from Costco.
