Holabird customer service which is normally great, is not standing buy its customers. It has a misleading website, with respect to a new racquet purchase, and did not listen to me (the customer). I had purchased a racquet not knowing it's the prior 3 year old model. Their website is not clearly labeled for the version of the racquet shown and is misguiding people. When you click through their menu items to display the racquets by brand, the OLD generation racquets are shown, not clearly labeled as such and nowhere on that list is the new generation shown. They don't feel its misleading, not listening to the customer so they will not provide a full credit for the racquet with stringing. They discount the refund by the cost of the string and $9 for the racquet. read more

I have been a Holabird customer for over 30 years. I purchase tennis rackets, tennis balls, tennis shoes, and tennis string on a regular basis. I have never had a problem with any of my orders. And when I called with questions about a racket stringing pattern, they gladly connected me with one of their stringing technicians who was happy to help me. Holabird Sports is indeed the best shop for tennis in the DMV. If you're a player, I'm sure you're familiar with online shops like Tennis Warehouse and Tennis Express. Well, Holabird is that just local. Their shoes selection for both tennis and running is huge. I was equally impressed with their racquet, apparel and accessories. Honestly, whereas is was the merchandise brought me to this location, it's the friendly and easy going staff that keeps me coming back. I've had an unique experience with everyone from the owner, who introduced himself and shared his vision with me, to floor associates whom we discussed anything from music to jewelry, etc... But back to the owner. My encounter with him was genuine and seamless. He left me with his business card and ask that I reach out to him for anything. Now that's how a business should feel. Their complete refusal to properly investigate or take responsibility speaks volumes about their business practices. Today I visited Holabird Sports to buy my first pair of Pickleball shoes. I had not been to the store in about 25 years since buying a couple of racquetball rackets there long ago. Candidly, I cannot recall the last time I received better help in both selecting and fitting shoes of any type. Kim was knowledgeable, patient, and took her time to assure the best fit. It was clear from the start that she wanted to help me get the best match for my needs and was not pushing price or brand. I will definitely be back before another 25 years. Don't let negative people who are NEVER satisfied when spending a lot of money steer you away from this business. They are ROCK STARS!!!! I ordered 2 pairs of Hoka Mach 5's last week from a scam website, and when I didn't get a confirmation, I reached out directly to Louie Silverio because he was responding to all of the disgruntled customer reviews. He informed me that I was scammed and told me to how resolve it. After getting is cleared up, I came back to the real website and placed an order today for the Hoka Mach 5's. I was a little gun shy from the last purchase, so I reached out to their team to ask for an update on the shipping (I ordered next day air), and received an email from Jane and a call from Deb. Both were very apologetic about MY misunderstanding. Deb is very sweet, and extremely helpful. She is also open and honest and explained that Next Day Air didn't include Saturday delivery, but would check to see what the difference in cost would be. She called me back almost 15 minutes later (promised it would be within 20), and said it would be a difference of $45. She then said that she would schedule it for Saturday delivery if I wanted, but thought it was very expensive considering I was already getting a discount on the Next Day Air. I went to the physical store to try and find some pickleball shoes. I felt that trying shoes on would be better than just ordering online. The store had a huge selection of all types of sneakers. They have a simple system of having you look through the selection of shoes and then fill out a list of up to four shoes you'd like to try on. You then give the list to an associate and then someone will bring them out to you. I was fortunate to have Tom as my sales associate. He was very knowledgeable and encouraged me to try a couple of different brands of court shoes. I selected my shoe and Tom said "That's a great shoe and I'm glad you picked that one." I went home and played two hours of pickleball and they felt perfect...no breaking in period at all. read more

I am looking forward to playing in them. I also got to meet some of their staff and one even printed me off a list of solid local clubs with some recommendations (I am just getting back into tennis after moving to a new area). My experience with Holabird is via internet only. I have never been to the physical store location. Holabird CONSISTENTLY has the best prices in running shoes. I only run in Mizuno, and those babies run $110+ in any physical store. At holabirdsports.com, I can always get them at $69-$89 PLUS free shipping! If it's the brand new version of a shoe, you might have to wait several months, but they always go on sale. Baltimore being so close and all, I almost always get my shoes in 2-4 days. AND they usually throw in a free something with the order. I even once got a free pair of running shorts! First and last time I shop here. I ordered an Oncourt Multitube Ball Tube (59.95 + shipping). The website claims it picks up 30 Pickleballs. It doesn't work -jams after 3-4 balls every time. I called the company and they insist that I have to make a video, send them an email with a full description of the problem, and then I MIGHT get a refund. The product does not work as advertised, but instead of easy returns like most of the online vendors I use, they make you work for it. The operator claims it's the policy of the distributor because it's drop shipped. That is hogwash, Holabird Sports is the one selling a product on their website that doesn't work. They should take responsibility for returns. I'm not a happy camper. Side note: My wife and son are both Certified Pickleball coaches. It arrived timely and was exactly what I ordered. **Note based on reviews and my concern about how fast/slow delivery may be, I chose the $4 faster ship option. Considering the price was so good (1/2 what the same shoes were in a local store), I didn't mind spending the additional $4 feeling that it may assist in getting the order timely. I have been an online customer of Holabird Sports for nearly twenty years. I wear out a pair of running shoes fairly quickly and usually buy shoes several pairs at a time. They told me they were sending me a credit to my account, but it never appeared. When I called to question why, the person did not know why and said I'll call you back. She never did. when I called back again they claimed that I had worn their sneakers outside. That is a lie. I have just disputed the charge with my credit card company, but this is not a process that I should have to go through as I followed their instructions for a refund to the letter. I am a wanna-be runner, but I continue to give this form of exercise a go. Upon recommendation from a long-time runner, I made the trek to Holabird Sports. I was looking for experts that would know what to advise and that's what I found here. The store isn't super glitzy (this ain't no Lululemon) but they have SHOES so. many. shoes. Walls and walls of shoes. A staff member spent lots of time with me, evaluating my arches, running ability, and surface of preference to make sure the shoes I walked away with were perfect. I selected a pair of Asics and I love them! I have trained in general Nike cross-training sneakers for years, but as soon as I went for a run in my new kicks, I understood the difference. The other perk is the shoes are bought directly from warehouse so they are discounted to a great price! On the flip side, here are some things to be aware of... 1. The store caters mainly to runners and tennis players (apparel, shoes, and equipment). If you are looking for a wide variety, shop somewhere else. 2. You have to write down the item number of the shoes you want to try on (something that was new to me) and give it to someone behind the counter. They move quickly, but it does take some time for them to pull your shoes, especially if you are trying on several pairs! 3. The hours are fairly limited, but if you can go during the week, you might luck out with less of a crowd. I would definitely return to the store in the future or try ordering online. A very thorough shoe buying experience. be prepared to spend a lot of time on your first visit. You find the shoes you like then fill out a form to send back to the warehouse where they will call your name. You can pick up a maximum of 4 pair at a time on the form. Your try them on and if they don't fit quite right you fill out another form send it back to the warehouse and they call your name and so on. Until you narrow it down to the ones you want. Then a representative will verify the fit and make sure you are satisfied with the shoe. Then you get in line to pay and then you are free to leave. I was there a little over 2 hours for one pair . I am satisfied and will be returning for my next pair. Prices are good closeout prices were awesome but couldn't find any I liked and paid full price. I never spent over a $100 for a pair of running shoes but they do make a difference. read more

I never realized I was flat-footed, and after Holabird Sports, I now know, and knowing is half the battle! Holabird Sports is a mecca for running shoes, running equipment and apparel. The prices are surprisingly competitive as well, which is what initially attracted me to this place. Even though it took me a while to track down a sales person, the guy who helped me was quite knowledge. I originally had an idea of what I wanted (Asics Nimbus 12) but the salesman, immediately looked at how I was standing, and noted that I was flat-footed and I needed a shoe that provided good arch support. He suggested the Saucony Hurricane 12's (see pic) which were $20 less than the Nimbus 12---and the Hurricane fit perfectly and provided the supported I needed all these years! I appreciated the fact that the sales person did not push a more expensive shoe on my naive-running-shoe-knowledge-self, and was impressed by his knowledge compared to the sales people at Foot Locker or Finish Line. read more

First time ordering things from this company. Known about Holabird all my life since I started playing tennis as a kid. Terrible customer service. Ordered a couple bags on 4/28. Website says orders will be processed within 24 hours. Few days later, status is still 'processing'. Sent an email expressing concern, got a reply basically saying I would get an email when my order shipped. A few more days pass, I email AND call, and my order gets shipped (one item drop shipped from California where I live so that seems really silly that this is even an issue). I call back and email to ask for upgraded shipping since they 1: didn't explain why there was a delay (they state on their website that they will contact if there is a delay) and 2: took 6 days to process an order for items that were in stock. The woman on the phone sounded like I was insulting her for even asking this. Emailed again to complain about the attitude and poor attention to customer service and they basically said sorry that's too bad. Usually, when people complain about customer service, be it at a restaurant or elsewhere, I think maybe the customer was being overly rude or unreasonable. I've worked in customer service so I know how tough it is. I was always polite to them and they did nothing to assuage my concerns. I'll be returning all these items and taking my business elsewhere like Midwest Sports in Cincinnati, Tennis Express, and Tennis Warehouse. Deceptive store. Just like Mimi below and scores of people elsewhere, I learned their "money-back guarantee" is a gotcha. Without that, they won't refund the order. Holabird Sports thinks you are buying a box + some item. Worse, they would rather refuse your item and force you to pay shipping again, rather than do the right thing and refund your order. I'm done with them. I placed many orders in the past for running shoes with great service. The last pair I got from them were obviously sampled on grass or pavement.. I didn't care that much b/c if they fit, they'd be like that after one run. The NB 801s are not available in stores to try on....only online. But when they didn't fit after trying them on my carpet, I shipped them back to exchange for another size. Figuring if they're good enough to sell me, they're good enough to return. WRONG. They were sent back to me some 3wks later stating they cannot be returned since they are WORN. No phone call or anything....just received the same pair back. Yet I received them this way and after arguing my point, Holabird finally agreed to take them back and credit my account but would not reimburse me for shipping them a second time. They hold onto their claim that the shoes were not worn when they originally sent them. Yeah...it's a big conspiracy plan I put together. Hopefully when you order you don't get shoes that have been tried on outside or have some dirt on them......... Maybe I got very lucky but if you google Holabird Sports reviews you will find an almost 5 star rating from thousands of people. And...to previous reviewers... I DO NOT know anyone who works for Holabird, nor had I ever even heard of them before online shoe shopping this past Saturday. I just found a terrific deal thru them and decided to give it a go. I ordered my new trail shoes on Saturday. I needed them by Wednesday eve at the latest, so I paid 10$ extra for 2 day shipping. I got a notice Monday morning that my shoes had shipped, from Maryland, mind you, and were headed out to Cali. TODAY (Wednesday morning) they arrived! They are JUST what I ordered, and I got these shoes for 25$ less than anywhere else. I already am wearing them. I trusted Holabird on a whim and because of a couple of good reviews, but was mortified when I read the bad ones here and on Epinions AFTER I had made my purchase. I thought for sure I wouldn't get these shoes in time. Luckily, however, it seems that Holabird is actually totally on the ball and maybe someone (or two) has a vendetta against them? I've never ordered online from here, only been to their store so consider this a review of their actual brick-and-mortar store. I had heard some good reviews about this place, mostly that they had really great prices and they do! It's a big place, fun to look around, easy to find on Pulaski. On the down side, if you need any help with shoes or finding things you may end up wanting to pull out your hair. I'm a relative newbie and finally buying "real" running shoes. When I went in. I was directed to a man on the sales floor. When I approached the man me he refused to watch me run despite that being the way you buy new running shoes and despite the fact that Holabird is set up to sell shoes that way. I was waiting for him to tell me about my arches and my gait and such (again, a newbie) but all he did was say something about support shoes, point to the wall and disappear. I figured he went to grab some shoes for me but when he never returned I went to find him and the following conversation happened: Me: There you are. Him: The support shoes are on the wall Me: Do you have any you especially recommend for me after seeing my foot? Him: I said support shoes. Me: So just any of these? *looking at support shoes section* Him: *hands me a clipboard and disappears again* What the heck do I do with a clipboard? The lone female employee explained that in order to try on shoes you had to actually fill out this piece of paper. They also had a turnstyle to get in so maybe they have a theft problem, I don't know, but I have never been to a shoe store that required you to fill out a form to try on shoes. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with the fact that they would not take two minutes to explain their store policy. I must have tried on 8 pairs of shoes before I left. Shoe guy tried to convince me to buy shoes that were just too big. Also a man behind the counter completely ignored me when I tried to ask him a question. Luckily, the much more considerate woman swooped in to talk to me. She was really the only friendly employee there. Bottom line: They have really REALLY good prices but it doesn't make up for the shitty way they treat you.
