I was on the hunt for another pair of HOKA Rincon 3 shoes. It seems these are extremely popular since I bought my first pair months back, that even the HOKA website was out/or their being discontinued??? But I was determined to find a pair in a size 7 in a color I liked, as I could only initially find pale orange (blech).... It seemed as it got closer to Christmas it was becoming more futile, and some websites seemed sketchy/scam-ish. But I kept looking, and turned off the location. After a few weeks of searching I found this pair on Falls Road, and I check reviews (seemed legit). Pushed to order button and crossed my fingers. This is Baltimore and I live in California. They shipped out within the first work-day of the week (maybe the Tuesday after Christmas). It took a little longer than a week with New Years, but arrived still quickly with holidays. They are perfect! They fit and feel perfect out of the box, and I'm so happy with my purchase! I'm also happy to support a small business! So glad I did a deep dive search and if I'm ever in the neighborhood I'd definitely stop in. Thank you for the great service! This was my first visit to Falls Road Running Store. I just started running and knew I needed to get fitted for running shoes instead of ordering online. I was greeted as soon as I entered the store. The associates name was Peter. He first asked me size and brought out some shoes my size and a 1/2 up. I ran on the treadmill to see how they felt and went with the half size up since it had more room. After that I tried on more shoes and ran on the treadmill to get a feel for the right shoe. After running on the treadmill some more I found the right shoe. Peter answered ever question associated with the shoe and even with running in general. Came by today after 48 hours of pain with my feet. Podiatrist called ahead. The girl manning their outside area must be brand new or part-time, she seemed very confused. She didn't know the brands well. I mentioned my name and said my doc had called -she didn't know 'Liz miller' could be short for 'Elizabeth miller'? Idk she seemed off her game. Apparently the brand shoes I wanted in my size were the only ones in the store (size 12 in men's-pretty standard). When I asked if they could order some more, she looked at me like a 'deer in headlights'. I continued and said ' I mean I could order direct online but I thought it'd be nice to support a local business...' *crickets* her reply was 'I mean I guess I could ask?' I was very surprised because the podiatrist spoke so highly of this store. Not sure if it was something about me but she seemed really disoriented and confused about standard sales questions concerning the products. read more

Horrible customer service. I walked in recently, and found the staff sprawled out in the middle of the show room floor, eating lunch, just staring at me. Um, a hello would have been nice. Then I asked where I can go pick up my race packet. After muttering a few words, one of the staff pointed to this ridiculous yellow tape line on the floor that led down to a basement area; it was so bizzarre, and I really wish someone would have had the decency to put down their sandwich and help me for a second. No one smiled or paid attention to me, and the sales staff seemed more concerned about their sandwiches than their customers. I felt overlooked, with their flippant attitude, most likely because I didn't fit the hipster stereotype. Also, I tried to talk to the owner about a race event, and how I think he could have worded his emails a bit better. I was polite, and gave concrete examples. He had a really combative and sour attitude to my constructive criticism (concerning his unprofessional, snarky, and obnoxious email writing). He wouldn't let me leave the conversation--he was defensive. A good business owner would have just said, "I appreciate your comment. I'll put it into consideration" (and curse me out later if he wanted to, after I left)--instead of trying to "prove a point" with me, and talking down to me because I wasn't a stereotypical hipster person. I was even in there to try and pick up a few things, as I try to support local businesses. It is really unfortunate that this type of business and attitude is acceptable in Baltimore (because of the small market)--and further perpetuates the "Baltimoron" stereotype. Used to love FRRS. It was great when they had charismatic folks like Timpson working there. It is a bit less friendly now. Nevertheless they do care about running and getting the right sneakers on your feet to properly support knees/back/pronation or ankles as desired. Mention a price and they will bring out select shoes at that particular range or even better will ask "Jim", the owner, if the price can come down and more oft then not, they will knock a few bucks off for you. You are always offered a chance to take the shoes out for a test run in the parking lot which is extremely helpful when comparing shoes in a particular category e.g. trail, cross-train or pavement only. And they used to keep an extra stash of bargain basement items, literally in the basement, as clearance sale products that you can really get great deals on. All in all a great place for runners. read more

Haven long given up on being a runner, I was encouraged by my physical therapist to "get NEW SHOES IMMEDIATELY" b/c of a reoccurring ankle and knee injury. I asked them where they thought I should go and they named a lot of places including here. So I went, and I was again pleasantly surprised. After checking out my gait and the tread of the shoes I wore in, the sales guy brought out a plethora of possible options. I ended up trying on 6 DIFFERENT types of running shoes and at no point did he rush me or appear frustrated at my ambivalence. if anything, he encouraged me to get on the treadmill, walk out side, do a little jog and so forth. In the end, I couldn't totally commit, so I bought a new pair I felt almost convinced about because they let you bring them back w/in 2 weeks (as long as you don't go do a Tuff Mudder in them or something crazy). When you spend that much money on a pair of shoes, it's nice to know you aren't stuck just b/c. read more

And in conclusion... I bought a pair of running shoes here. The staff was very helpful and recorded my walking, etc. I paid $130 for a pair of shoes that sells online for $105 (at the time) but the extra $25 was VERY worth it to get the perfect shoes. I could definitely tell the difference. I would advise anyone to go there for at LEAST your first pair of running shoes. Note: If you are looking for pretty pink Nike's or some kind of stylish garbage, this isnt the place for you. This is a running store for people who are going to exercise, not just buy matching shoes for your ghetto outfit to look all cutesy at the gym. If that is the case you are better off going to Dicks, because that is what you are. read more

Tried on all three, her recommendation was spot on. My fiance recommended this shop and always a fan of supporting local businesses rather than the huge machine stores I decided to scope them out. I've been a distance runner since high school, ran competitively in college, and recently needed some new shoes to help kick start getting in shape again. I know which shoes I like and what works best for my foot size. I walked in and there was a middle aged female customer and myself in the shop (no Black Friday crowds here). The owner of the store was helping the other customer and shortly thereafter I was assisted by Meg D. Meg was helpful and knowledgeable, bringing out several sneakers for me to try on. In the end I stuck with my typical brand-Nike, because I liked the lightweight feel as well as the aesthetic of the shoe. Once I am back in running shape I will probably return to the shop and find a sturdier shoe. I ended up buying the Nike Free 5.0 shoe ( $ 100.00 ) and a pair of $ 13 Swiftwick Aspire running socks. The prices are standard for any running boutique store. They encourage you to try the shoes while on the treadmill, which is easier than running around the store or outside. Overall very pleased with the customer experience here. Parking is available in front of the store (the shop itself is kind of tucked behind other buildings and a bit tricky to find at first). read more

I have to say that I am not a professional runner nor am I built like one. Now that I am older and my body has been pretty much beaten up from playing rugby for many years there are only so many sports I can participate in and running is one of them. I do it for 2 reasons: 1. My wife runs marathons and half marathons and a lot of them. 2. It is the best way to feel good, stay in shape, and drop the LBS. I enjoy running some races, mostly the 5k and 8ks, anything longer than that and I get bored. Plus these races I can really push myself for personal records every time. I always tell my wife that there are many sports people can be arrogant and unwilling to encourage others to try it. In college and out of college, playing Rugby you never tried to deter people from playing because you want the sport to grow and you want to get the word out there that it is a fun and enjoyable team sport. Contrast that to running. In my opinion it is the snottiest sport out there. Go talk to a runner that is fairly competitive in the sport and tell them you like to run half marathons or something like that and they will most likely respond with a smirk or rude look like "Really, you??? Why bother?" That is the feeling I get when I go to this store. The customer service here is terrible and people that work here are really arrogant. I get it, you are a good runner and I should apologize for coming to your store to buy shoes to run. Sorry to inconvenience you because I am not an "Elite Runner". If you are looking for help or ideas about a new shoe because running shoes change quite often, don't come here. I have been here 3 times and each time I had to go search for someone to help me and they offered really no advice on the style of shoe I was looking for. I guess I was always spoiled in VA. We frequent VA Runner which is in Fredericksburg, VA and they treat you like a customer and a human being and even if they are faking it, which is fine, they will show excitement towards your interest in running. Even though I have to drive to VA for a solid pair of running shoes and not feel like I am an inconvenience to someone, I will not be coming back to this place again. read more

Sorry my review could not be laudatory. Went to buy a watch. Only customer in store. When I suggested that I not be sold the display watch, perhaps it may have been dropped or handled, both members of the staff all of a sudden copped an attitude. When I said I was just joking, don't make a big deal about it, they went thru this big-deal scenario where they were looking through a box to find a similar watch. After several moments, I said: young man, please just go ahead and sell me the display watch. Neither of them responded to any comments. Their attitude was like: "if you're not a jock, we don't need you", just because you asked to be sold a watch that's not on display. You're a jerk". Of course, they didn't say that. They rang up the sale (after some difficulty in finding the price), handed me a receipt, said there you go. No thank you; nothing but snobbishness. The owner came out from the back while they were ringing up the sale, but I didn't want to get into it with him about the cold shoulder. Now, I've gone there over the years, and bought some shoes and other athletic gear. And, you know, everything in their brick and mortar store can be bought on line. It's amazing how quickly the staff got offended. I'd rather have him have said: "Sir, we only sell the ones on display. Sorry". And I am sorry I seem to have offended both employees by a simple question. I was going to look around the store for more stuff to buy, but didn't want to put up with their intellectual arrogance. Overpriced. Lacks of customer services. I have been there during club meetings and they are helpful then, I guess because they have to impress a lot of people. If you come alone, good luck with that. They checked my stride and I must say they gave me a neutral shoe, but they told me that I do not pronate, which ends up being wrong after I had my feet scanned at the doctors with 3d imaging. They have a wide selection and are pretty reasonably priced in my opinion. I will agree with others who say that they're not especially welcoming to non-stereotypical runners. I have gone there a few times for running shoes and since I'm somewhat of an inconsistent/inexperienced runner, I suppose I have more questions than the average customer about the types of shoes and other gear that would be best for me. Generally, I feel that I get a lot of blank/uninterested stares. It is not a big deal but kind of annoying since it is their job to help runners of all skill levels get what they need. Another thing I will say is that I have also been given inconsistent information depending on who helps me. For example, last year I bought the Brooks' Ravenna shoe after someone at the store went through the whole process with me (watching me walk/run on the treadmill, identifying the correct size, etc). I liked the shoe but one problem I had is that I had a lot of bruising on my toenails, so when I went back in recently to buy new shoes I explained the situation and the woman told me that the Ravenna was a really bad choice for me because I have very flat feet. (I don't think she realized that I bought the Ravennas at the same store last year). Of course, people make mistakes, but it made me question how knowledgeable the employees actually are. read more

I went here a few years ago to get help with buying my first pair of true running shoes (something not from Sports Authority where I had no idea what I was buying). The service was amazing. Fast forward to today when I brought in my Dad who is just getting into running. The employee, Miles, spent so much time with him to help him decide on the best pair of running shoes. True, there are rarely discounted prices at this store so you will spend a good amount, but once you know what you're buying you can buy your next pair of running shoes elsewhere. This is a local business that really tries their best to cater their clients. i have been here on several occasions and they have always been so friendly. they have a cool machine that you can step on to analyze where the pressure on your foot is. they watch the watch how you walk/run and then bring out a bunch of shoes for you to try on. they have a treadmill that you can run on or you can go outside if its nice. they have a vast selection of running shoes, clothing, and energy snacks. they really try to listen to what is best for your running needs. i have been to other running stores also, but this is the only one that i always go back to. read more

I went in one morning while I was waiting for the nearby tri shop to open. I asked if they had any tri suits and they informed they didn't. I said that I knew it was a long shot but thought I would give them a try while waiting for the nearby tri shop to open. Even mentioning the other shop put them in such a defensive mood that when I said "well I'll look around because I need new shoes too," I was told that maybe I should just go to the tri shop for my purchase.....Ouch! I still gave them two stars because I have made some small purchases from them in the past (race belt, kinetic tape, etc) and they do support a lot of the runs I do but I certainly will try to avoid them as much as possible when it comes to interactions I need assistance with. read more

My trainer recommended this store and I've read great reviews about it here and other places. Unfortunately, I didn't have a great experience. I'm not a runner but I'm recovering from knee surgery and wanted to get better shoes while I train and rehab my knee. The associate who "helped" me was less than friendly and made me feel like I did not belong in the store. I've never felt so uncomfortable. He looked at the way I stood for a few seconds, brought out some shoes but didn't really speak to me or explain anything. I tried them on and he kind of just stared and looked annoyed like I was wasting his time. I didn't end up buying the shoes because I would've liked more feedback. I visited this store to pick up a race packet and decided to try on a few shoes I was interested in. The customer service is the worst I have experienced in any Baltimore area running store! The woman who helped me (unfortunately I don't know her name) didn't seem to know the products at all. I asked a few questions and she seemed really stumped. Considering that they have a pretty small shoe collection, it shouldn't be that difficult to gain a little product knowledge. I asked if I could try it outside in the parking lot and they told me no and looked at me like I was asking for a kidney. I don't think the request was unreasonable and other stores have never had any issues with this. The sales associates just sat around on couches and did not greet the customers. It was terrible. Do yourself a favor and avoid this store. They do not deserve to be in business. If you want to find a good local store with excellent customer service, try Charm City Run. I shop at the both the Locust Point and Timonium locations and have always received far better service than at Falls Road Running Store. I will never go back! On a side note, I loved the shoes I tried on but decided to buy them elsewhere because the service was so bad. I will usually purchase my shoes from local stores, even though prices are higher but this place was so bad there was no way I would spend a dime there. They lost out on what could have been an easy $150 sale. read more
