They don't use hygienist and the dentist cleaning is more painful than it should be. I was told I needed antibiotics and cleaning every 4 months plus some additional work.... I have been coming here for couple years now, and all my family members come here too. We love this place! Getting your teeth cleaned is not the most pleasant experience, but Dr. E and the staff here make this experience as comfortable as possible, to a point that you will be looking forward to your dentist visit. The front desk staff is welcoming, and they thoroughly explain everything you need to know about your insurance coverage and bill. They are punctual, and we are always seen at the time as scheduled. All the dental assistants are awesome! They are professional and friendly, and they explain every step of the process: what they are doing, what they are about to do, why they are doing that, and what to expect next, in order to keep you informed throughout the whole process. Dr. E is wonderful! He is professional, personable, caring, and informative. He is efficient and he explains the condition of your teeth and gums as he cleans your teeth, and he makes suggestions and recommendations when needed. Dr. E. is a great dentist, and very honest. I originally came to him about 17 years ago when another dentist recommended extensive crowns and bridges. Dr. E. told me that, because of teeth grinding, I would eventually need crowns, but I could wait 10 years or more, and it was better to wait so that I would keep the original teeth longer. TLDR: Idk why the reviews on here are so bad. The service here is great and the staff are super friendly. I'm literally in and out in 30 minutes! I've been going here for about a year now and I've been into the office for at least 3 separate occasions, all with outstanding experiences. I'm always in and out within 30 mins for dental cleanings including wait time. Keep in mind though, I don't have any serious dental problems so there isn't much to fix... but still that's super quick seeing as I used to have to wait over an hour at least. Dr. Esfandiari is friendly, efficient, and very competent. Kevin the hygienist is super quick but very efficient, and IT DOESN'T HURT! I haaaaate the screeching noise from the tool that picks the tartar off, and it used to hurt since I'm a little sensitive, but Kevin works fast and so well that I don't feel any pain. The receptionists are also super friendly, and they know my name already when I come in, which is crazy since I've only been here about a year. Honestly everyone is super nice! I started coming here on a recommendation from my parents, and I was hesitant to switch dentists since I hate change lol, but I'm glad I stared coming here. I went to Holcombe Dental Associates about 4 years ago. I brush and floss often. Dr. E told me that I had 6 cavities, which seemed excessive to me (I had one cavity diagnosed at age 25 and another at 30, both by my parents dentist in NH). Not having been to a dentist in some time though, I certainly thought it might be plausible. In addition, Dr. E. told me that I needed antibiotics for my gums. OK, I thought, we'll get all of this out of the way. I walked out paying a bill of around $900! In retrospect, having just recently read some of these reviews, it occurs to me that at least *some* of his patients have experienced similar situations (a sudden high incidence of cavities, high costs, etc.). I will endeavor to find a different dentist for my needs. UPDATE: Recently went to a dentist in Oak Forest who took X-Rays. Turns out that the alleged 6 cavities Dr. E filled in, didn't exist! Read all these reviews carefully before you go. Went for a routine checkup - had no pain or other symptoms prior to checkup. He convinced me to fill a bunch of "pre-cavities". My mouth hurt for over a year every time I chewed after that. When I went for a followup visit to tell him that, he said it was just a "coincidence" that my teeth started hurting right after his intervention!! I guess it's also just a coincidence that this business has an overall rating of 1 star and that other reviews mention similar experiences? In retrospect, I'm a moron for 1) not reading the reviews before going and 2) being gullible enough to allow him to talk me into filling "pre-cavities". Worst dentist and human being ever, all he cares about is money. I went for a filling and he left a very deep cavity in there that I discovered when I introduced a toothpick in it (apparently done by his drill, it was narrow and very deep), when I came back he said it's just a stain and I know that he knew it was a cavity that he left, because his assistant admitted it after checking it with a scaler (her name was Anna and she was very kind btw) and she told me that the dentist will correct it and she even prepared the tools for that, but he came in and he just insulted my intelligence by telling me it was just a stain after he checked it with a scaler. I wish I believed all the bad reviews. Bottom line : you'll be better off going to some third world dentist than going to this butcher. read more

I just got back from an appointment with Dr. E and felt compelled to write a review because of how different my experience was than those of the other reviewers. I was hesitant about Holcombe Dental because of what I had read, but decided to give it a chance since all of the dentists covered by my insurance had similar reviews. Dr. E and the hygienist who worked on my teeth were very informative throughout the process. They were also very positive while talking about my teeth, in spite of the fact that I haven't had them cleaned in over a year. Everyone I encountered at the office was very friendly! Most pathetic awfully horrendous service ever! Here I am sitting waiting at another dentist's office while I write this review. I don't know why and how I forgot to write a review for this one!! This happened over a year ago....I went in for a simple, plain dental cleaning appointment. My dental cleaning I mean scraping the dirt off your teeth that is lodged in the teeth that don't come off by brushing eg plaque. This was covered in my dental insurance coverage 100% = free of cost. I had an appointment time on Wednesday morning which was a work day. I asked the receptionist how long it would take she said an hour or 1.5 hours max incl everything. I said ok. I went in for a 10 am appointment and waited for over an hour or so to get attended. The dental hygienist (young boy) came over and explained to me what was wrong with my teeth after a quick exam that lasted 60 seconds! He started explaining to me about the periodontics on a tooth chart suggesting that I need deep cleaning and not just the superficial dental cleaning. I said ok. Then the dentist comes in and supervising the inexperienced kid and next thing I am standing at the receptionist's counter where she is explaining to me that I need to make ANOTHER apt for deep cleaning and that it will cost over $200-$400 for everything incl X-Rays. She tells me how much my coverage included and how mush I needed to pay out of pocket. I was amazed and said an immediate no to it. I ran away from there and stepped out. I suddenly realized how they didn't provide any service to me and hustled me into getting a more expensive service from them that I wasn't interested in. I went right in and yelled at them for treating me like that. The dentist came running to me and said I'll take care of you right now. He eventually did some cleaning and scraping of teeth within 15 mins before releasing me. I got outa there and decided to never come back. Bottom line: this is a common problem at most dentist's office in Houston's Harris county. They will pitch you "deep cleaning" when you don't even need it probably. Unless you have serious dental issues don't fall for needless dental procedures. They take up your time, energy and, more than anything else MONEY!! Needless to say they are painful and need anesthesia. Also, they would only do one side at a time in one sitting asking u to follow up with another appointment. I have gone to Holcombe Dental for about 6 years and have been very satisfied with the services provided. I haven't had any dental problems just exams and cleanings every 6 months. Once I was experiencing some pain so I went in, but the dentist did not see any problems with my tooth. He just told me to come back if it got worse. It didn't; it was probably a sinus issue. Just had my first visit at Holcombe Dental and saw Dr E. I really liked the place. Everyone appeared to be dressed very professionally and was very nice. It did take quite a while (1 1/2 hours) but it was my first visit so I needed all the x-rays etc. There was a bit of wait time, but nothing that I feel was excessive. They went over all the charges with me before they performed work (luckily everything I needed done was fully covered) and explained everything they were going to do along the way. I don't think anyone loves going to the dentist but this place was pretty good. read more

Terrible! Was told by Esfandiari that I had several cavities! I was suspicious because I have only had one when I was a child and I take very good care of my dental hygiene. I got a second opinion and was told by a different dentist that I had only one cavity and that Esfandiari was a dishonest dentist! I am a young adult who, yes, still fears the dentist so I avoid going at all costs, hence the reason why I had root canal rather than a cavity. The palm of my hand was sweaty and I wanted to throw a fit and leave while I waited in the waiting area and while I still had the chance. I was too late and ended up in the patients chair and immediately told the Doctor as he walked in that I was deathly afraid. He smiled and assured me that it would be smooth sailing and I shouldn't worry...but of course I didn't buy it and continued to worry. The Doctor explained the problem to me and the requirement to fix it. I calmed down a bit because he genuinely seemed to care and explained everything to me and re-assured me that there is nothing to fear. The dreaded time for the root canal arrived and there was no pain or problems!! I surprisingly started to relax. He was very friendly and talked during the process which was soothing. Now it is weeks after my treatment and everything is perfect! I am so happy with his work I have scheduled my six month check up and an upcoming tooth whitening. read more

I was referred to Holcombe Dental Associates by a friend who has been a patient there for quite a while. I called the office on Wed evening at 4:15 to make an appointment. The voicemail message came on stating the office was closed. But when I checked the website the office hours listed the office is open till 5pm. I made an appointment online because I had a broken tooth. The first available appointment was listed as Saturday the 18th. I booked that appointment but in the comment section requested an earlier appointment if possible because again..i had a broken tooth. On Thursday morning I received an email stating my appointment was set for Sat as requested. After reading that email I called the office. I was informed by office staff ( I believe her name was Beverly) that my appointment was changed to this morning! Thursday!!! So in essence I missed the appointment. I asked, how is this possible, no one talked to me. No one confirmed that this would be ok. Beverly said someone had called and left a message on my voicemail. In fact someone did call but how could they change my appointment without talking to me. I explained to Beverly that in fact there was a voicemail but I didn't receive it in time. She told me since they could not confirm my appointment verbally I would be forced to keep my original appointment for Saturday morning. That was fine and I agreed. Saturday morning (today 1/18) I called the office to confirm my appointment because I felt uneasy with the previous confusion and I live quite a distance from the office. I didn't want to show up and be turned away. When I called I spoke to staff member who informed me that I did not have an appointment for Saturday and that my appointment was for FRIDAY! I never agreed to Friday, nor Thursday. I never confirmed Thurs or Fri with anyone, I was still under the impression that my appointment was for Saturday. Anyway, the main reason im writing this letter is not because of the poor organization skills and chaotic "running" of the dental office but because of the lack of customer service displayed by the phone personnel ( I believe her name was Erica). After verbalizing my frustration about the miscommunication and set appointments etc. I said to Erica "This is really unbelievable, I can't believe how much confusion and chaos your office has caused me and still I have a painful broken tooth in my mouth. Perhaps this dental office is not the dental office for me." Her response was "Ok, sure, you have a nice day" No apology was offered, no trying to fit me in due to their staffing error....NOTHING. I asked to speak to an office manager and was told to hold the line and she hung up on me. She never attempted to call back, nor did the office manager call back or contact me. POOREST customer service EVER and I never even walked through their front door. If this is how they treat their potential patients ( first impressions are supposed to be the best impression) I don't want these people doing anything to my teeth or mouth! Too many choices for dentist in the Houston area. I don't have to settle for rude and uncaring staff workers..their lack of caring and chaotic, confusing office practices speaks VOLUMES! BIG MISTAKE! He was in my network and close to my work. I need a tooth extracted and a bridge put in. While working on me he kept turning around and watching the soccer came on TV. His dental assistant came in and put the bridge in. It felt too tight and she said it is normal. It was too big and within a couple of weeks my teeth on both sides of it were cracked and FALling OUT! First off, I would like to say that I am a physician in a busy practice and therefore understand health care very well. This is my first visit to Holcomb Dental Associates and Dr. Esfandiari. I was very impressed with the processes that led me to see the physician, from the check in process that took less than 2 minutes, to being in the exam room within another 5 minutes to getting all my xrays done in another 3 minutes. Every member of the staff discussed prevention of dental problems, which is the elment lacking the most in all medical practices across the board. Dr. Esfandiari is a very knowledgeable, and as a surgeon myself, I can say that he is truly technically gifted.
