It was in pretty good shape, but it had a glossy finish and several minor scratches. Mike said he could bring it back to life, and boy, did he ever! My puppy decided to chew the arm of one of my dining table chairs while I was out one day. I had purchased chairs and table on consignment as part of a set I absolutely loved, so a) I didn't know where I could get a replacement chair, and b) I didn't want to break up the set. Fortunately, Holenda Refinishing was able to repair the chair. I was offered the choice for either a repair or a new arm at a surprisingly reasonable rate; I decided to go with the repair. Mike and his team had it done in a week or so. They perfectly recreated the design on the arm chair, color matched the patched area, and even touched up some scratches on the other arm. If I look at the patched area closely in good light I can tell its a patch (patches don't have wood grain), but to any casual observer (or in the indoor light of my dining area), no one will ever know it's been repaired. read more

We rented an rv and broke an arm rest. I put out a request to multiple handy men services on Yelp and no one said they would repair the arm rest. Michael provided excellent customer service, clear communication, and came out and fixed it for us. Saved me a lot of trouble and money! Michael & his associate are so busy but always glad to answer wood refinishing questions; they were sanding a beautiful set of table tops and I could see some restoration items too. My cabinets are fiberboard and light wood frames. To strip them would be best done chemically with gentle sanding. Michael said: if they dip the doors into chemicals the moisture might have a good chance of making the doors rupture. I'm so glad I listened. Looks like the spot to take actual Wood to get finished instead of my particle board. read more

Had the unfortunate experience of having a just purchased armoire fall off the truck on the free way. Doors broke off as well as extensive trim damage. Got three estimates. One said he couldn't do it. The other quoted me just under a grand. Michael at Holenda Cabinets said "I can do it" and quoted me a fraction of the other estimate! I gave him my Steinway Piano to refinish after it was dropped onto the sidewalk and he painted it grey instead of black, rubbed it the wrong way, didn't have the Steinway logo and left the piano bench looking like someone chewed it. It took him 7 months and I had to have it moved to Pierres in Los Angeles to do it right. He held it hostage until I gave him more money. I had already given him 5k and he demanded 7+. It cost me another 6k to have Pierre do it correctly. I then took him to small claims court and he lost but he is not paying what the court ordered him to pay. He also lied to the judge and told him he told me it would have cost much more to have it done right. I have since spoken to 2 other people who had their dresser and table done by him who were also not satisfied. Do not use him. read more

I got a vintage chair repaired here as it had cracked. I originally thought the wood base had cracked but Mike identified that the glue was cracking at all the seams of the base. He successfully fixed it, but when I came to pick up the chair the upholstery had torn in the process. Thankfully, Mike reupholstered my chair without cost as he said "Nobody leaves my shop unhappy." In the end, I was very grateful for his accommodation and both the repair and the reupholstery are great. read more
