This is a gem of a place!!! Owner Carol is the sweetest, most interesting innkeeper…read more(schoolkeeper?), and the accommodations are clean, friendly, and historic! Great for groups, with room for lots of friends! Stayed in the "Green Room" as a group of 3, and was almost late to the wedding we were up there for because we were too busy enjoying and exploring Isle la Motte. Gorgeous wildflower gardens in the front, with yard games and a hammock (and a vegetable garden!) in the back. Breakfast both mornings we were there was a wide spread of toasts, juices, eggs, cereals, fruits, and yogurts...and don't forget the homemade muffins! Yum. The laid back vibe, informative hostess and literature, and the picturesque setting all worked together to create a wonderful weekend, the likes of which we will be reminiscing about for years to come. Hopefully, it's not years before we are able to come back to visit Carol and her fantastic place! Go: if you want a fun, relaxing visit full of nature/history exploration, personal connection, and conversation. Don't go: if you need color TV, hustle and bustle, or are looking for a traditional hotel experience. This is NOT that! ...And I couldn't be more pleased about it. Thanks again, Old Schoolhouse of ILM! Loved it and can't wait to be back.

If you have a large group there is an old classroom that has been converted into group lodging. There are huge old chalkboards left over that you can write on and a large collection of books and games to pass the time. The kids love this space. If you want more privacy for a couple or small family there is the green room with its own entrance and en suite bathroom. There were lots of options for breakfast including baked goods that Carol makes herself. The kitchen and refrigerators are available for preparing/storing your own meals if you wish and a huge help yourself garden outside we used to supplement our meals. And the rates are fantastic. This is the best value in the area by far! Hoping we can get up to Isle La Motte for another visit this summer.

Shore Acres Inn & Restaurant - Dessert, wine, excellent service and lakeside ambiance made our anniversary special this year!

We went with my parents-in-law. It was a nice pleasant drive to get there (in summer allow extra time for possible drawbridge operation) and upon arrival, I found the grounds to be lovingly maintained, with a long frontage on Lake Champlain. The main menu is available online, however, they have a significant selection of specials. For our appetizer, we had well- executed escargot, delightful calamari with a spicy sesame sweet soy dipping sauce, a squash blossom and cheese tempura thing, and heirloom tomato caprese salad. Our main dishes were the salmon, burger, and the swordfish and prime rib specials. The salmon was perfectly cooked, and came with garlic shallot mashed potatoes and an inventive combination of mustard seeds and a balsamic reduction. The burger is from grass-fed beef that was raised in the Champlain Islands. Grass-fed beef isn't my thing, and my wife wasn't thrilled by the challah bun. The burger seemed a little overpriced. My mother-in-law had only good things to say about the swordfish; she let me try a bite, and it was okay, but I don't have a point of reference for how swordfish should taste. My father-in-law got the prime rib, and that is what I would get if I got to do it over. Very well executed. All in all, an excellent meal. Lots of attentive waitstaff. Reservations are a must.

Everything we ate was delicious. My boyfriend ordered the NY steak and he finished every bit of food in his plate. His dad ordered the same thing too and truly enjoyed it. His mom ordered the salmon and enjoyed it as well. Will definitely be back here again when we are in Vermont. Trust!

The INN - Breakfast. We split up our omelet and avocado toast to split.

The INN truly has exceeded…read moreour expectations for what our ideal experience is, and we are so grateful for the INN being the foundation of a phenomenal week-long getaway in Jay Peak. The stay: main area- Quaint, cozy, cabin-like feel with a rustic albeit decorative interior. Carve some time out in the evenings to hang in the common area by the warm fire and play some games they have available. It's large enough for multiple groups to be dispersed and play separately. Room- just enough space and awesome vibe. Shower was amazing with great pressure and perfect after a long day of skiing. Dog friendly: We brought our dog with us for the trip and were so pleased with how truly dog friendly the INN was towards her. Seeing as we couldn't take our dog on the mountain to ski, Kinga offered daily dog walks around the neighborhood for a more than reasonable fee. It was the perfect amenity to offer so we could enjoy our time skiing without having to rush back and take her out. She was sleepy everyday that we came back and got so many sniffs in! We loved hearing Kinga share with excitement details of their walk everday. They are all truly dog lovers, with Portland and Banana there as two lovely inn dogs (different but amazing personalities). We were also greeted with a dog bed and treat in the room upon arrival. The dog-friendly rooms are right next to the exterior door so it's super easy to take her out for walks. There is a river in the back of the INN, as well as a small through-road so easily accessible for long walks. The food: Don't skip breakfast- it's phenomenal! Had the avocado toast most days but tried everything on the menu - French toast is delicious as well. Definitely make dinner reservations for the INN at least one night. It was such a memorable experience. Huge compliments to Jason for cooking the ribeye and duck to perfection. Drinks- Holly is a rockstar of a bartender. I asked her to make me something "simple but effective" one night-- she recognized I had been ordering vodka based drinks that evening and made a delicious vodka gimlet. It was the perfect complement to sitting by the fire and playing chess together. Nick, Jason, Kinga, Holly, and the rest of the staff make an exceptional team and have something very special at The INN. We are so appreciative of the hospitality they showed towards our dog and us. Next time we head to Jay Peak, we already know where we will be staying. Thank you all!
