Perhaps the ownership has changed? We just didn't experience what the other reviewers seem to have. The building has beautiful "bones," with great potential. The state park right across the road is gorgeous. The room was clean. The brief encounter with the one staff member we met we pleasant. Disliked However, for the cost, a big disappointment. The bed was so uncomfortable. The sounds from the room above were amplified. There was hardly ever any staff around. With a king size bed, there is only one nightstand light. The lodge is in need of a facelift. It currently is decorated in a strange mix of southwestern adobe, buddhist yoga retreat, and Adirondack lodge (which is probably the look they should go for 100%, considering the location and architecture), all with a paint job and fixtures which seem to be out of the 80s. The gazebo, balcony, and windows are in need of some good cleaning. The gardens could be beautiful if they had been weeded, but are now overgrown. Though there is a kitchen and a dining room, breakfast is not available. It is quite a drive to get to the nearest eatery, so that's tough in the mornings.

The property is beautiful and very peaceful. We lost our mother and I have a fairly large family to try and accommodate. This place had plenty of room and also provided a peaceful setting for us to spend time together. The lodge was very clean and inviting. Yuri stayed in touch with me prior to our arrival and during our stay. The host Robert was wonderful and came by every day to see if we needed anything and to provide wood for the fireplace. I absolutely recommend this property.

A few miles outside of the city and across the road from one of the country's newest and pristine state parks. The rooms are spacious and cozy inside a modern log estate. Each with a large private bath, sitting area and balcony with chairs and table. Views out to the fields through meticulously maintained grounds add to the visual appeal. Breakfast was amazing, with fresh fruit, juices, and a choice of French toast or a leek, ham, cream cheese omelette. Fortunately the park, beach and walking trails are right across the road to help burn off breakfast! The main lodge area is a cavernous log frame, with loft rocking chairs looking out to the park and Lake Champlain beyond. Grab a book (or your Nook) and relax!

Creston's breakfasts are amazing, this visit we had an asparagus, leek and bacon frittata, which was delicious.

The king room upstairs is better than home. The bed is comfy, the recliner was great, the bathroom was large and spotless. The room comes with its own large balcony right on the bay. We arrived by boat and the owner was great enough to drive us to a local restaurant and then come and pick us up. When we got back to the B&B, Jeanne had made us dessert! Strawberry shortcake. Breakfast the next day was incredible. All home made breads and coffee cake! All the eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, ham and home fries you could eat! We knew then we would be back. Since that first visit, we have been back here 6 other times and make sure to stay longer each time. Our last long visit was for 17 days. It was so wonderful, we never wanted to leave. Going to Heron's Way is just like going home to visit with family. Jeanne is incredible! Her family knows us well and they are all family. Our last visit was to spend our 10 year anniversary there. When we started thinking about where to go to celebrate, the choice was obvious. Heron's Way B&B, just like going home. If you are ever visiting Lake Champlain, Burlington VT or Plattsburgh NY area, you must make this one of your stops.

Heron's Way is probably the best B&B that I've ever stayed in. I hardly know where to begin. We…read morestayed for four nights on a short bicycling vacation around the Champlain Islands. The proprietor, Jeanne, is very welcoming and accommodating and is also very knowledgeable about local wildlife, the lake, restaurants in the area, biking in the area, etc. Our room was upstairs and it was very clean. It was also very large, with a very comfortable king bed, sofa, several comfortable upholstered chairs, large screen TV, large bathroom with double sinks, view of the lake from the windows, and a private balcony overlooking the lake. I think it also had the complete works of Stephen King in a bookcase, if you are a fan of his. Jeanne likes to cook, and the breakfasts are just over the top. Every morning we were served about 3 selections of fresh fruit plus applesauce that Jeanne makes herself plus oatmeal (I am not usually a big fan of oatmeal, but she cooks hers for hours, and it's REALLY good) plus something she bakes fresh (muffins, coffee bread, etc), along with coffee, tea, juice. Then, she brings out the rest of the breakfast, which could be eggs and sausage, french toast, or frittata, etc. Then we would waddle to our bicycles. Jeanne is flexible about when she serves you breakfast. If you eat a bit later, you'll get to meet the neighbors, who are very pleasant. In addition to the balcony outside our room, there is a deck and screened porch outside, and there is a dock and a small beach on the lake, so you can swim in warm weather. She also has a couple of kayaks that you can use. We kept our bicycles in her garage downstairs. I was sorry to leave. Definitely going back.

He framed a tour for us (hiking, farmers market, swimming, mountain views, picturesque towns) that was the height of our trip. Nailed it! We actually booked the Cozy Screen House the first two nights (beautiful site, CLEAN inside and out, real futon, flashlights, S'more fixings, everything! ) and we almost didn't want to give it up to be inside the Mill. Pictures can't evoke the energy in this place: the scented wood and stone entryway; the warm tones and lighted walls and creaky planks of the main living room and bar; the authentic STEEP climb to the upstairs (shared) bathroom-with teak tub! (Knuckle bite)- oh and then the upstairs private bedroom and sitting room...just outstanding. The constant rush of the river was very soothing. Felt very relaxed and comfortable using the deck, towels, drying rack, coffee maker, and bug spray available. Notes: beautiful natural paths (uneven stones, careful), and gorgeous hand made wooden steps (hold hand rail) from deck to main house. Swimming on site is an unforgettable experience! But not for the faint of heart, or those with vertigo...very steep steps (excellent solid rope hand rail), then an almost vertical ladder of 5-6 steps. Wow! Totally worth it! This is long, I know, but go see them, John and Manjula, their place, their love of laughter, peace, and adventure. Prepare to be enlightened!

Located a few blocks from "downtown" and, therefore, in a bit of a quieter area, this B&B has a Adirondack-meets-Lake Placid Olympics-meets-comfy-retro feel to it. Rustic touches abound everywhere, the grounds, which abut the end of Lake Placid, have thoughtful and colorful plantings, hanging flower baskets, old milk cans, wooden skis, Radio Flyer Wagons, and bird houses. We took advantage of the 3 kayaks, and there is also a canoe. We lazed away afternoons on rocking Adirondack chairs, wooden chaises, and enjoyed our home-made meals (there is a refrigerator that guest can store food in, which is a really generous touch) under the twinkling, nighttime lights of the umbrella-d picnic table, The rooms are decorated with much attention to detail, the beds were super comfy, although the Lodge is on the main drag, even with the windows wide open we did not hear a sound from the McDonald's across the street, the sink mounted on an antique Singer Sewing Machine table is cool, the clawfoot mini-tubs are fun, although a little difficult to maneuver in and out from because the shower curtain is attached all the way around. A really good breakfast, prepared mostly by Moses/Red, co-owner with his wife, Nan, is served with panache (and a tableside visit and stand-up comedy from Red), vintage plates, and, wait for it...the New York Times! Both Red and Nan share their thoughts, hiking and swimming hole suggestions and local and national/political gossip. From the location, to the decor, to the hospitality, to the great sleep, the lakeside view and kayaks, the hiking, walking, drinking, eating, and blabbing that we did, we could not have asked for more.

This is a restaurant review, cannot comment on inn. Also would be 4.5 if possible…read more If you're looking for private, personal, and comfortable dining experience this is a great place to go. It seems the way this place is setup is there are only a handful of tables and each reservation is off-set by about 30 minutes. As other review state it is a husband (the chef) and wife (head waitress) duo who head this restaurant inn. I booked the reservation over a month in advance and I'm pretty sure it is necessary if you plan to go. The food- Fantastic and Different. Wild Boar Sausage - this was delicious, possibly the best sausage dish I ever had. This dish was literally bursting with flavor served with red wine sauce and mushrooms. Elk Loin - Delicious and before you ask, no it wasn't gamey! The service - Great personal service from the staff, however sometimes the head waitress let her opinions be known. She made it clear that she wasn't exactly happy with all the out of town business she was getting from their rave reviews. She also made odd comments on what she thought was proper male-female etiquette when the two of us were clearly joking about who was paying the bill. She also made a sarcastic comment saying she couldn't believe that we actually had manners enough for me to let my significant take the seat being held out for her, stating that most couples leave her speechless when the male takes the seat being held out. The service itself was great but some of her comments could have been left out even if she didn't mean anything by it. The price - VERY REASONABLE. Two appetizers, two entrees and a bottle of wine, about $100. The atmosphere - Business Casual? Lodgey clothes here. The place itself literally is set in the living room of the inn, but they take a lot of pride in the restaurant and I would dress the part. Again there are only a few tables, and reservations are off-set so it is very intimate. Overall - Delicious Exotic Game cooked the way you have never had it! Very intimate, romantic atmosphere! Good yet opinionated service. A can't miss if you're visiting lake placid!
