Since others may discuss pillows and breakfast, I'll talk a bit about how I appreciate this hotel as brief corrective to the sinister pseudo-environmentalism that looms over the Hudson Valley and indeed the tri-state area. The tourism, real estate and media industries and the government sell a narrative of trees, lakes and hiking. All this can be yours for the low price of $3 million for a second home. Or you can stay in a hotel and enjoy a convenient 25-minute trip from a highway. The actual locations you're trying to visit tend not to have hotels. I'm not a zoning expert but I have seen how impossible it is to find train-friendly hotels. The Holiday Inn Express is reachable from the Peekskill train station. While some maps will indicate a 1-mile walk on a some unappealing looking roads, but the riverfront waterway will get you there. Let's call a 17-minute walk. Travel light! There's outstanding waterfront scenery at Charles Point Park. There appear to be two restaurants walkable from the hotel. I walked to the village of Peekskill but normal people won't want to do that (not a bad Uber ride presumably). On more hotel-specific factors, the shower pressure was excellent, the room was far bigger than usual and all the workers were friendly and helpful. read more

Great view overlooking the Hudson River. Unfortunately, the elevator is a little beat up an old makes a lot of grinding and bumping noise on the way up and down. The tub does not have the slip proof grips on them when you're in the shower. Not too much pressure in the shower. Plenty of hot water bathrooms pretty large and efficient. Very comfortable bed and pillows large room. breakfast looks good but probably not gonna be able to get to it because it ends at 10 AM and it's already 9:16 AM and we just got out of bed. read more

Loved my stay here! I was staying for a conference. I had to be at the conference at 3pm and that was the same time as check-in. Rather than check in at 10pm, I called ahead to see if they could let me check in early. Apparently they had 2 weddings that weekend and were super busy and told me I could come in, but that they couldn't guarantee anything. Well, I showed up at 2:35, I was checked in by 2:45, and made it to the conference with one minute to spare. It was meant to be -- and room #418 - my birthday! The room was immaculate, the beds and pillows were comfortable, and the shower was lovely. There isn't much around the hotel, so the view was of the parking lot and another building, but that's okay. There is a pool, which I didn't use, and there was also breakfast, which I did not have, although it looked good! The staff was very friendly and accommodating and I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area. read more

I travel weekly and IHG is one of my main stays. I travel all over the world and have stayed in 5 star hotels and flea bags. But this is THE WORST hotel experience I have ever had. I went down for breakfast at 6:00am but they didnt start until 6:30. So since the cereal and milk were out I asked the guy for a bowl. You would think I asked him to cook me an omelet. I only wanted "a bowl". Maybe I shouldn't have, but I said out-loud that it was being ridiculous that I couldn't get a bowl until 6:30. I got a lecture ,that turned aggressive, of how I was disrespecting him, I thought we were going to come to blows over it. He is an employee of the hotel, I am a guest, I wanted a bowl. I still cant believe how I was treated. It doesn't end there, two nights later my partner and I want to have a pizza and couple of beers, There is no where near by so we asked if we could go into the breakfast area. This was granted but 15 minutes later we are told we could go to another room, because there is a couple that wanted to use the room but there were people drinking in it. WHY cant they go to another room. We were not loud, only had a pizza and a beer. We later were told they just didnt like us drinking in the room. THEN SAY THAT. The other guest was a story, that angered me so I asked why THEY couldn't go to the other room.. I am sorry but the staff here is ignorant, rude, and arrogant. I said in the beginning I stay in Hotels weekly, I have well over a million points with IHG, and I come to this area often. This hotel will never get another dime out of me. And I will tell every one I come across to avoid this place. The Hilton is another 20 minute drive further away, but worth it. If a manager sees this and you want to talk about it leave a response, I would love to talk to you. read more

Look at that pretty view, that was a nice plus.. John at the front desk was super sweet and helpful (these are the kind of employees a chain hotel dreams about..keep him)! Room was clean, spacious had extra bedding for pull out bed, put we were happily surprised that it was already made up for us..never feel like making the pull out bed when you check in late..it was just an overnight to visit The Blaze but we enjoyed the clean pool and hot breakfast as well..K Cups in room and in lobby is great! Did I mention everything was super clean? This is VERY important to me and they nail it! Only thing I can say bad is the walls are thin, bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. read more

Came up here for a wedding @ Bear Mountain. Due to favorable traffic conditions, we arrived earlier than expected and requested an early check in. I was pleasantly surprised by the large modern room we had. I didn't spend a whole lot of time in it, however it sported a cool view of the Hudson (despite looking like a scene from silent hill) and a brilliant blue color scheme and just turned the corners of your mouth up. Additionally, the large bathroom was marble clad, had a night time potty light with motion sensor, and a mirror that glowed around the edges. While it I found it a little dim, the counter top mirror supplemented the daunting process of putting makeup on. There was a K-cup machine, microwave and fridge in the room. Coffee pods, popcorn and the usual accouterments were left as well. I didn't take advantage of the other amenities such as the gym and pool, but they looked as immaculate and sparkling as the rest of the hotel. Breakfast area was spacious, bright and clean. They offered cereal, oatmeal, some questionable looking eggs and other assorted grab and go type food. I was initially excited by the "pancake machine". You press a button and hot pancakes come out! My inner 6 year old was totally elated! Once I attempted to eat them my smile turned into a frown. Rubber -- Boo! We grabbed apples, juice and a pastry but decided to get a real breakfast elsewhere. Prices were slightly on the higher side for being so far from a large city. They likely make their money due to the scarcity of hotels and the numerous weddings that occur in the surrounding area. Heck, there were three different wedding groups staying at our hotel alone! Staff was accommodating and friendly and overall my stay was pleasant. The hotel was in a safe and quiet area. There's not much to do within walking distance besides a few walking trails by the Hudson. You'll need a car to get food. The bed and pillows were not the most comfortable. Bed was rather hard and pillow was flat. Otherwise the hotel was extremely clean and the staff at the desk were very kind. They have a pool though I did not use it. They had a complimentary breakfast. We just had coffee and juice. I would stay here again if I was in the area. read more

BRAND NEW, at least feels like it! The room itself is gorgeous. (I am in my second night here and I like it that much!) The only reason I can't give it a perfect 5 is the area. (7 miles) Rooms are nicely lit, have GREAT USB and extra plugs all over the room. you won't run out unless you carry 36 devices with you. :) pull-out desk area, contemporary bathroom, a free HOT breakfast with usual fare; cheese omelettes, sausage, bacon, milks, juices, yogurt, cereal, fruit, etc. Unless you are uber-picky, you'll be fine eating breakfast here with or without the family. The rooms themselves, I had a King bed room, are VERY spacious. Nicely decorated and colored, with a nice seating area with a couch and desk area I mentioned earlier. Nice WIDE shower head for the shower, Bath and Body Works soaps and shampoos, nice stuff. If you need a place to stay that is 30 or so miles from NYC, or if you're on the East side of the Hudson for a wine tour or in the area for work, check this one out. Not a bad choice! read more

Has to be one of the worst hotel I've stayed in considering the amount of money I'm being charged. They put me in a handicap room I'm 6'2"the sink is set up for wheelchair. I've traveled a lot and never had such a poor room. I asked why I got the room and the only thing they could tell me is because I asked for a king size bed.Would not recommend this hotel. This place is unreal. We prepaid for the reservation. They charged my credit card for the full amount anyway. Then upon me pointing this out they reversed it. Then a $187 charge mysteriously appeared on my card from the hotel the next day. Add to this the massive amount of mold that we found in the milk at breakfast. And the fact that they don't heat the pool that they advertise. And that we requested a crib and of course it wasn't there when we arrived. What the heck is going on here? read more

I had some construction work going on at my house so I decided to rent a girl room for the weekend so that my family would be out of the house. My stay was supposed to be Friday- Sunday. I decided to switch my reservation to Saturday check out Sunday. I tried to make the change over the phone but was unable to because their phone service was knocked out due to the storm. Additionally, when I made the reservation i called the hotel directly and was transferred to their reservation line which posed another problem because the reservation number i was given was not affiliated with any reservation number you get when calling the general 800#. Luckily I don't live far from the hotel so I was able to drive over and modify the reservation in person. When I came into the hotel lobby there was 1 lady at the counter helping a couple. She looked up at me a didn't acknowledge me. (I expected a simple greeting acknowledging my presence and letting me know she'll be right with me. That's what all of the other holiday inns that I've stayed at do. Plus it's the hospitality business.) 5 minutes later another lady comes from the back office to assist with the couple. She's wearing no mask, she also doesn't acknowledge me but she keeps looking at me and the car seat with the baby in my hand. At this point I feel like maybe the culture of this hotel isn't hospitable. I stood another 5 or so minutes waiting while these 2 representatives took care of 1 couple with the unmasked representative periodically standing idly while the other worked to meet their needs. After awhile I decided to wait outside because I became uncomfortable seeing this lady at the front desk without a mask and then seeing another 2 employees without masks. After about 5 minutes outside I came back into the hotel lobby baby in the car seat and stood again without any acknowledgement while these 2 representatives assisted this 1 couple. After 5 minutes passed the unmasked representative who kept looking strangely at me finally says, "oh there's a baby in the car seat." Finally some sort of acknowledgement that I was standing there but still not a customer oriented acknowledgement. After they were done with the couple. The unmasked lady retreated to the back and i was finally helped. My request to about 1 minute. I was given my receipt and I left. So I wasted 25 minutes holding a 17 lb baby in a covered car seat in a warm lobby for something that took 1 minute to do if they had acknowledged me and asked how they could help. Saturday comes my construction is done sooner and less messy than expected so I rush over to the hotel before the 6 pm cancelation deadline because the phones are still out and who's at the front desk but the unmasked lady from yesterday but on this day she is wearing a mask. I inform her that I would like to cancel the reservation and she tells me she can't cancel it because I have to give 24hrs. I advise her that I have the higher priced daily rate that allowed cancelation through 6 pm and it was 5:05pm. She wrote a number on my receipt and instructed me to call them. I stepped outside to call and discovered that she'd given me the wrong number. I called the other number on the receipt and they said they had no access to the reservation i needed to contact the hotel locally.. When I went back in to inquire she took the receipt and recited a number that was different from the one she wrote then she pushed the receipt back to me with the incorrect number unchanged. I politely brought to her attention that she had not changed the number on the paper at which time she nastily recited the number again, then snatched the receipt and changed the number. At this point I'm done with the back and forth, the disrespect, and the terrible customer service that I have received 2 days in a row. I demand that the reservation be canceled or I speak with a supervisor. The lady tells me, "Fine I'll cancel the reservation that's what you want right?" I asked her name she tells me it's Lisa. Then I ask for a receipt she tells me there is no receipt I'm just going to have to take her word for it. I ask again for a receipt not understanding why I was given 1 yesterday and I couldn't get 1 today and she says in a very dismissive manner, "you want me to cancel the reservation or not!" I tell her cancel the reservation resolved to write this review, copy and send to management and headquarters. I am an ihg member i stay at holiday inns frequently for business and personal and while I've had some experiences there none have ever made me feel inclined to write a lengthy review or consider discontinuing my patronage and that of my colleagues but if this isn't addressed we'll be taking our business elsewhere. read more

This is a BRAND NEW Holiday Inn Express and it is in mint condition. The room we stayed in had everything you could want; a comfy bed, full bath, microwave, coffee maker and a fridge. There was a shower that had great pressure and a tub if you need a soak. The hotel features a free buffet continental breakfast which we really enjoyed. These are always very convenient when you have early morning activities. Unfortunately we left some things in the room that were never found. This was our fault and we take full responsibility. The courteous staff did call back to let us know they looked everywhere but weren't successful locating our stuff. read more

We chose to stay at this hotel for my husband's reunion hearty at West Point Military Academy. All the hotels near the academy were full so we had to venture out... Check in went great and the room was clean so I was happy... upon closer look at my bed the first night it looked sloppily made and not 'fresh'... Felt uneasy about sleeping in bed... The hotel is near a busy road so if you're a light sleeper I would request a quieter room... We were awoken to an alarm going off in our room. We had no idea where it was coming from. It kept getting louder and louder... it was disturbing. Is it too much to ask for he cleaning ladies to put it on the checklist to make sure the alarm is off after each guest checks out? When you're traveling you are out of your element and don't think to make sure the alarm isn't set before hitting the pillow.. and who uses an alarm anymore? All good.. we were up... left to West Point for the day.. just returned back to hotel. Room was half clean... but it SMELLED LIKE A WHOLE CAN OF HORRIBLE AIR FRESHENER was sprayed in our room!!! I can taste it! All of our clothes smell like this flowery musky spray! Why? The room didn't stink to begin with! My DO NOT DISTURB will be on the door for the next two days! read more

This hotel saved our romantic holiday getaway. After having to leave another hotel across town unexpectedly in the middle of the night due to the fact that we weren't the only inhabitants of the room (if you get my drift), The Holiday Inn Express welcomed us with open arms, and was a complete 180 degree difference, in the opposite (exceptionally excellent) direction. The Front Desk Manager on duty Amanda (cool gal with a blue streak in her hair) was incredibly kind to us, and voluntarily gave us their executive suite at the normal rate. The room was huge, with beautiful, modern furniture and bathroom amenities. They even have a pool and fitness center, which we did not use. The next morning we had the complimentary continental breakfast buffet, which was a diverse selection of foods hot and cold. Check-out was express, and next we knew, we were on our way. Worth every penny, and a quick ride or walk to the Peekskill train station. Would definitely stay here again, or at any of their hotels. read more

I've stayed in a lot of IHG properties over the last year (122 days in hotels) and this one is by far the best one I have EVER stayed at which is why it needs a 6-Star Review. Read it's worth it. Service: This is why there should be a 6th Star. Most hotels have a staff of relatively nice people. This staff goes way overboard with the level of service they bring. Everyone in the hotel knew me within hours of arrival. They allowed us to look around and choose the particular room we wanted to stay in. The Director of Sales came out, met us, asked if we had a few minutes and found out more about us, then came up with some of the most amazing recommendation for food, drinking, shopping, things to see and do. Misha you are the best staff member I have ever met, EVER. She followed up on how things went and then assisted again, it was like having a personal concierge. Dominique at the front desk was fabulous, attentive to every need and had everything waiting before we arrived. Paige hooked us up with specific room for a future stay since we enjoyed ourselves so much and wanted to make sure we could get the right room again. I have never had a place let me ask for an exact room before. To go out of their way is an understatement. There was even a note in my room one day with more recommendations based on the topics we spoke to Misha about. Who does that? This isn't a fake review, I don't remember names well, these people are that memorable. Hotel Appearance: Everything is beautiful, guest are greeted with holiday paintings on the windows, everything on the interior is flawless and CLEAN! There is aboard of events on the wall, the Wi-Fi password is accessible if you forget. There are signs everywhere on where things are in the hotel and signs for help/ assistance wherever it could possibly be needed. Amazing. Rooms: They are the most spacious out of any IHG brands and are really comfortable. The mattresses are to die for, we tried to figure a way to take up home as a gift package. But did not have enough space. With how great the staff is, they would have probably helped us carry it out. Whether it's a room with an extra large multi shower head shower/ tub, one with a couch, lounge chair, and breakfast bar area, or the one with an extra room dedicated to a whirlpool tub, there are no bad rooms here. Finally they solved the problem of when the bathroom light is on that it's tied to the fan and gets annoying in the room.... They have motion sensor in the bathroom that does turn on the fan unless you are in there, believe me it's fabulous. Did I mention how wonderful the bed is and they give you a mix of soft/ firm pillows. If you needed them there are very comfy spare blankets in the closet. The showers are amazing as well, great water pressure and warm. Food: Of course it's free with the stay, but they have great selections, fresh fruit, coffee that's always available... but they also have fruit at the front desk for your late night snacks, COOKIES , please keep me away, they are delicious. There is a cupboard that is well stocked full of any snacks, drinks, frozen items, chips, candy, whatever if the need arises. Amenities: They are wonderful: indoor pool, laundry machines, work out room with new equipment, drink vending machines on every floor and a sitting room outside of every floor near to the elevator. Conclusion: This isn't the closest hotel to West Point where I needed to visit, however I would travel twice the distance anytime to stay in a place like this. I have already booked again, it's not just a place to crash, it's a comfortable, relaxing place that makes any trip more enjoyable. The rooms were new and clean, but very cheaply renovated. It is going to deteriorate quickly. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. My review focuses more on their free breakfast: My husband is gluten-free and dairy free, so I asked the woman who is manning the breakfast buffet if the eggs are dairy and gluten-free. She looked at me like I had 3 heads, then said "yes, I think so". When I went over to the eggs, it said "cheese omelette". When I attempted to explain to the woman that cheese is dairy, she looked at me again like I had 3 heads, then graciously showed me the ingredient list. Their microwaved "omelettes" must've had 50 ingredients. Disgusting! Additionally, the buffet was just a carb heavy, low-quality selection of various pieces of "food" that were very white and had a very long shelf life. The coffee was undrinkable. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!!!!!Worst customer service, especially if you have to deal with the unprofessional manager Monika. I booked a room in July for a wedding in September which the bride and groom had blocked rooms for. I was unable to reach someone to confirm the reservation via phone therefore I went on their website directly to book, no credit card was requested, and was given a confirmation with the group discount. The confirmation email read exactly "Your reservation will be held for arrival until 06:00 PM (local hotel time) on 09/20/14. To hold your reservation for late arrival, you must update this booking with a credit card." We also received an email two days prior confirming our reservation and I was personally told by management as long as we arrived before 6pm there was no problem. We arrived the day of the wedding at 5pm and were informed that our room was given away to someone else (at 3:45 p.m.) because there was no credit card. There were no calls or messages received calling for our information. We of course informed them of the confirmation and were turned away and they attempted to send us to a hotel 15 mins away although the shuttle to and from the reception was at their hotel. The front desk directed us to call Monika. Monika was not only rude to me but also her front desk staff yelling over the phone stating not to help us. She rudely said it wasn't her problem and she would not do anything to help. The management of this hotel has been completely horrible to work with. If you can stay away please take this warning and book your wedding party elsewhere. read more

We were there for a wedding, and there were two other weddings in the hotel. The front desk knew nothing about the weddings going on, and were no help when our wedding shuttle was late. When we got back at 11 pm on a Saturday, they had no suggestions for a bar to go to, and told us to be quiet if we were going to hang out in someone's room. Do not have your wedding group here. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure what I expected in rural NY, but the staff was very friendly and helpful in finding a dinner restaurant. The room, which was a basic room, turned out to be very nice - a couch and seating area, large bed, nice tv, and big bathroom. I had a really great sleep, which is uncommon for me in hotels. Everything met or exceed my expectations. My only complaint is that the breakfast food was of poor quality. I had some cereal because everything else looked like it might make me sick. I honestly don't expect much else out of a Holiday Inn (no disrespect), so it didn't ruin my stay really. They could at least upgrade the juice however - it was very watered down. One tip: if you haven't traveled here, understand there is almost zero uber service and cabs are hard to come by. Ask the hotel for a cab driver's info and/or grab a card from a cab driver at the train station if you come in that way. read more

This wonderfully warm & welcome hotel has become our home away from home! We travel to Westchester/NYC often & when we do, we stay here--for the convenient location, the friendliness of the entire staff, the aesthetically pleasing & super-clean rooms & common areas, the perks (indoor pool, workout facility, daily free, hearty breakfast, mid-week dinner time social) & the magnificent Hudson River & Bear Mt. proximity & views. We LOVE this hotel! Oh, can't forget the ever-present yummy front-desk cookies too! The General Manager, Ryan, is always accessible, dependable, friendly, knowledgeable & helpful; he is a fabulous leader, and staff morale is always high.
