My partner took my here for a surprise birthday overnight. Not only did we stay in the Inn, but we also had dinner and (complimentary , when you stay) breakfast the following AM. We had an overall, great experience from start to finish. Takeaways: Dinner: 8.6/10 - subjective Debra (bartender): 10/10 (god dam she makes a drink - and you WANT to be around her). Night cap espresso martinis in the room were amazing! Breakfast (8:30-10:00am): 9/10 (could not believe how good that was for 'complimentary breakfast' which makes people nervous ) The Room: 7.8/10 - older but clean. This is an inn!! Quaint quiet clean - the bedroom TV didn't work - disappointing before bed, but not the reason we're here. Also, maid forgot hand soap for the room. FUN moment: we made (hand) soap at one of shops on Main Street- (cost $3.48 , had a lot left over lol) - was a fun oversight that made me make soap, by chance! Overall Service: 9.5/10. From the front desk to every waitstaff encountered , what a (small) lovely staff who truly makes you feel welcomed, not a bother in anyway and happy to be there. Sometimes a venue makes the experience special and sometimes the service makes the venue special. They are why we will return. This was a fun, easy, overnight that we're looking forward to turning into a tradition. We have walked passed for years and never been in until this past weekend! Had an amazing day sitting by the water and catching with an old friend. We got hungry for an early dinner abs went inside to just peak at the menu and ambiance and decided to stay and eat. Best choice ever. Greeted so friendly and warmly by host and then had an equally attentive and gracious server Gil! Everything we ate was delicious. Nothing to complain about except my date should have booked a room because I was stuffed and ready for a nap. We will absolutely be back because I have to try the lobster roll I passed on to have the short rib not disappointed just need to try other dishes lol read more

It's a very nice setting. The service was good and the food was good. The pop over was lackluster if you're going to go through the trouble of making them, you should go all the way. Came up to Cold Spring for the day and wanted to eat at some place with a good view of the river. This restaurant popped up and it had pretty good reviews, so decided to give this place a shot. The good: We ordered three pre-fixe lunch items, but the party really wanted French Onion Soup, so we ordered those in addition since it wasn't an option in the appetizer section. Everyone loved the French Onion Soup. It was a big hit. It wasn't overly salty, as most French Onion Soups are, and the cheese was melted really nicely. Good, delicate flavor. 10/10. One of our desserts was the chocolate mousse cake. That was also very very good. Two out of the three apps we ordered were very good. The roasted brussel sprouts and tomato and cheese dishes were finished. The bad: The staff here was very friendly, but the service was painstakingly slow. I don't know if the waiter had too many tables, but everything took forever. The restaurant was fairly busy but definitely not near 100% capacity. Waited 10 minutes and had to flag someone down just to take our order. Drinks took 15 minutes to come out. Water was refilled at end of the meal. The soup came out fairly quickly, but the apps and entrees came out nearly an hour after. The waiter said he accidentally had the apps and entrees come out at same time, but waiting an hour seems long. The check came 15 minutes after I requested it. The complimentary popover bread they provide at the beginning of service was really not good. I usually love popover bread, but this was cold and not fresh. Even my daughter who loves bread more than anything in this world took a few bites and discarded the remainder. One of the entrees we ordered was the steak. I ordered it medium-rare. It came out close to well done. I didn't bother complaining since I didn't want to wait another hour for it. The fries that came with the steak were decent. The ugly: We also ordered the Rigatoni Bolognese for two of our entrees. It was really bad. I'm not sure what sauce they used, but it was definitely not a tomato based sauce. No one touched it after a few bites. The cheese curds in the dish also were a miss as they were not even semi-melted. Just a very weird dish all-around. The other dessert we got was the apple pie(?) with ice cream. It was dry and not good and the ice cream it came with was literally one teaspoon worth of ice cream. One of our apps was the Vodka Squash Ravioli. They used the same weird sauce from the Rigatoni and poured some bad vodka sauce over it. Still very bad. The restaurant is in a great location and I think with a real chef, who understands food, could really elevate this place. The service model already needs to be looked at because I saw a ton of tables with dissatisfied customers just waiting and waiting. read more

I had a lovely lunch today at the Hudson House River Inn. Let's start with the ambiance. It is very beautful and serene at lunchtime with gorgeous views toward the Hudson River and Storm King Mountain. The food was delicious, but the people who work there are the best. I got a weird insect bite and I mentioned it to the waitress and she brought me a bag of ice. The swelling went down with no repercussions. They sent me home with a bag of popovers. It was warm and huge! Strawberry butter was fun but I think a honey butter would be a smart move. We ordered crab cakes for an app and they were pretty good but still a bit cold in the middle. It wasn't lumps of crab but the string kind. I ordered the cajun shrimp salad. There wasn't anything Cajun about it but it was fresh and tasty. Dinner before our annual trip to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare play, and we wanted something different. This was Option 3, and I am glad we chose it. Our waitress (also the bartender) was excellent. She was prompt and attentive, but also allowed us to enjoy the company we were with. The food was excellent. The pesto cod was phenomenal, and the old fashioned was very tasty. This is a beautiful building, aging nicely. The wide planked hard wood floors, I am certain, hold many, many stories. I always judge a place by asking the question "Would I return?" My mother and I decided to spend a couple of days and nights here to escape the city. This historic inn, right by the Hudson, was perfect. Finding the front door was a bit difficult (go up the stairs), which made us crabby after a train misadventure and then lugging our suitcases up and down stairs and through a tunnel. When we arrived at the front desk to check in, it was somewhat chaotic as people were also being seated for meals. But we finally checked in and a nice man carried our luggage to our rooms. There are stairs, no elevator. My mother's room, on the second floor, had a balcony overlooking the Hudson (with chairs) and a small indoor seating area. It was lovely, although she couldn't get the armoire doors to open. My room, on the third floor, was a suite of sorts with a daybed and second television in the second room, which also contained the Keurig coffee maker. Neither room had any closets. There were hooks on the back of the door to my room, and on the wall of the second bedroom. My mother put her coat and jacket on a chair, since the armoire was unavailable. The bathrooms have been fully updated and modernized, although the bathtub in my room was smallish and very shallow. The shower had weak water pressure and was difficult to adjust. But there were nice thick towels and scented toiletries. The bar lounge area, with a fireplace (which my mother loved on a previous visit) has been converted into another dining area, filled with tables. The fireplace was off, as there was a table very close to it. We were lucky to be there during Restaurant Week, and there was a wonderful three-course prix fixe menu. The food is absolutely superb. We had two dinners and two breakfasts at the hotel, and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. We had a hot breakfast Sunday morning (included with the rooms) and a cold breakfast (we both had the yogurt, berry, and granola parfait, also included) and delicious coffee. Everyone working at the Inn was friendly and kind, even when it was really busy. Which was pretty much all the time. read more

My husband and I stopped by this spot in Cold Spring after a hike and a train ride from the city. We picked it for the outdoor seating and stunning fall views of the water. Pros: The location is perfect--clearly a lively tourist & local favorite. The host was kind enough to let us use the restroom while on the waitlist, and the pizza (especially the margherita) was phenomenal. I'm still thinking about it months later! Cons: The rest of the food was hit-or-miss. The popover was disappointing with the wrong texture, and the soup had either too much sherry or brandy. Service, though friendly, was slow, and there was a long wait for outdoor seating even with open tables inside. My husband's lobster bisque was more bisque than lobster. This review is for the INN. Disappointing Stay. The upstairs rooms do not match the sweetness of downstair's restaurant. While the restaurant is lovely, the breakfast pretty good- the food can be wonderful in a beautiful setting; the staff: Mike, Judy and Whitney went out of their way and were also sublime- just lovely, kind and superb in every way. They did leave out nice apple cider- this was very good. This Historical Inn is old but instead of being quaint, is LIKE A ROOMING HOUSE, a bit run down and terribly needs TLC. The walls were so paper thin I thought throughout my stay while trying to sleep someone was actually talking in my room! when they were just having a normal conversation in the room down the hall, alas where I stayed when I tried to sleep. The adjoining room to my bedroom looked so depressing, so very shabby. The room was very very dark. Edgar Allen Poe feel. Almost 400. a night with taxes. No nightlight in bathroom which means having to turn on lights to navigate way to bathroom. The Inn- Please note rooms upstairs are like a dormitory rooming house during the depression, but w/ tax almost 400 a night, I guess it is ok! Little dorm room rickety Frig made noise all night long- instead of being incased in a cupboard like most nice hotels. Oh! the veranda deck outside: Nice idea but since the doors both did not open and so I did not have access to the balcony. There is really no excuse for this. FYI: Note if you are coming to Hudson Valley in mid week- Tuesdays and Wednesdays Hudson Valley shops and Galleries (Dia and Magazzani) are mostly closed, so this was something I only learned when I arrived Monday night, had I known I would arrived earlier. read more

Hudson House River Inn, a short walk from the Seastreak ferry dock, offers a tasty experience in a revolutionary war-era setting. They are open for lunch and dinner in a upscale atmosphere inside, and outside tables along the main thoroughfare toward the main town past the railroad tracks. This was a pleasant surprise. I had a friend in town and instead of eating at a crowded restaurant on the main street in cold spring, I decided to look for a brunch place close to the water. We were seated outside on a beautiful day overlooking the river. The outdoor seating spaces were pretty tight, but comfortable. The service was good. You start your brunch with a delicious pop over. Like most restaurants these days, they seemed to be a tad understaffed. There was also a bridal shower going on so that may explain the staffing restraints. We did wait a little bit longer to put in our order and we had to flag somebody down for refills of coffee. Other than that, the food was really good and we enjoyed it. I would recommend this restaurant. It is a nice break from the over populated brunch spots in cold spring. It is beautiful to be by the water on a pretty day. read more

A spot for a nice dinner for good food and location We came here for restaurant week on a Thursday evening and while there were some tables taken, it was relatively quiet. For the three course meal ($44.95) you choose the appetizer, entree and dessert. Lobster bisque was very rich and good, not a big portion but enough. The arugula salad had some good elements in it (nuts, cranberries, goat cheese) and wasn't overdressed. The salmon (with crab meat on top) with green beans, mashed potatoes and carrots was also well cooked. The mushroom ravioli was rich and cheese which was very filling. Desserts of chocolate molten cake with ice cream and cheesecake were also decadent. Service was good and everything was a leisurely pace. They also provide some bread and bruschetta before the meal. There's street parking and a nice short path next to the Hudson River. Overall we had a nice time for a rare evening out. read more

We were there a few months ago and I thought that I had already reviewed this establishment but I was mistaken. We went here for dinner on a week day without a reservation. The place was busy but not full. We were seated immediately and then greeted by our server. We ordered sword fish with jumbo shrimp which came with horseradish mashed potatoes with cooked carrots and French green beans as well as the price fixed dinner of coconut shrimp with sweet chili sauce, crabmeat whole grain mustard crusted salmon which also came with cooked carrots, French green beans, and horseradish mashed potatoes. The price fixe meal included dessert so I chose the apple tarte tatin. We also ordered a slice of key lime pie. Our meals were delicious but we both found our desserts to be too sweet. read more

Hudson House River Inn is located just steps from Cold Spring's bandstand and pier offering a stunning panoramic view of Storm King Mountain and the Hudson River. To get to the inn and pier by foot from the main stretch of Main Street you'll need to walk, as I discovered, through the passageway that goes underneath the train tracks to come out to the remainder of Main Street, where the inn rests on the end of the street on your right-hand side if you're coming from the passageway. (I personally didn't mind that little adventure as it provided a bit of respite from the sun and heat on a sweltering day, and the walls of the passageway are colorfully painted.) Reservations are preferred at Hudson House, even for lunch, and easily arranged on Resy. Overall, Hudson House offers a pleasant dining experience. There's a main dining room as well as dining in what is referred to as The Tavern. The view of the river (and the better air conditioning) is in the main dining room, where said view along with soft sea green walls create a calming atmosphere. The popover served with strawberry butter is an unexpected but scrumptious bread plate offering; it is moist and light and the whipped strawberry butter almost like ice cream. The grilled salmon summer salad is a citrus lover's dream served with poached pears, grapefruit (which, sadly, I don't eat and kept to the side), arugula, and diced tomatoes tossed in a blood orange vinaigrette. The service is kind and attentive. The prices are standard. A nice place for lunch on a summer day! read more

We actually intended on going to a restaurant down the street but it was packed so we ended up coming here for brunch. When we got here, we got lucky because someone called to cancel a table of two right as we walked in: When we sat down I ordered an earl grey tea & their seasonal cider sangria. Both very tasty for a cool fall day. I had the lobster bisque which was sooooooooo delicious. Best I've had in a while. For my entree, I got their Benedict with filet mignion. I got it cooked medium. It was a little too chewy but still good. The Dijon hollandaise made up for it! Nice staff and great ambiance with a view of the river. Would definitely come back for seconds. read more

My friends and I had a reservation for three. When I arrived they said they did not have a reservation for us, but the place was completely empty except one table of two people so I was sat. When my friends arrived, our waitress ignored us. We had to flag her down when ready to order drinks. The service was downright atrocious. Our server was snooty and blatantly ignored our table time and time again. I put an empty drinking glass on the edge of the table to signify I wanted another cocktail and was not approached. I also stacked my plates to the side because I had finished my food and no one came to clean up. Every time we needed something we had to flag down our server. Mind you, it wasn't that busy. She clearly did not care about our table as I watched her swoon to other tables assisting them and walking right past ours. I never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant in my life. I will say, the man at the front was very kind and offered to take our photo. The food was excellent, however, the server left a very bad taste in my mouth. I will never return. read more

We stayed overnight having come to Cold Spring via the Seastreak. Check in was quick and easy. We found our room to be simply decorated and very clean, the later being the most important thing to us when staying away from home. The one thing I would suggest, however, would be to have a true cover over the duvet instead of sandwiching it between sheets. They offer each guest two types of pillows, both firmer and softer which was nice. The second important thing when staying away from home is the quality of the mattress. The mattress was not terrible, but I cannot say it was comfortable either. The third important thing we look for is a comfortable, clean bathroom with enough space to navigate easily. The bathroom was nice, clean and good sized offering a comfort height toilet and a lower step in shower/tub. Quality towels were offered as well as small amounts of shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. Tissues were provided as well as an ample supple of toilet paper which although thin for obvious concerns over toilet issues was still soft. We had a balcony with a beautiful view of the Hudson River and mountains as well as West Point. The balcony had 2 comfortable chairs. The balcony was a bit weathered but not unexpected in an historic building. Chilled lemon water and fresh apples are available to inn guests in the common hallway as is a small in room refrigerator and a coffee machine. The one thing that would have made the stay perfect would have been having a small common area where guests could mingle and chill on comfortable furniture. On Saturdays a freshly prepared breakfast of choice is included. Everything was delicious and prepared perfectly especially the blueberry pancakes, potatoes and scrambled eggs. Guests also are offered both coffee/tea and juice. Check out was easy. All of the staff we encountered were courteous and friendly. read more

Reservations for Easter 2pm sat with a lovely glass of prosecco. We ordered their burrata and tomato salad which was delightfully delicious. Also ordered their crab cakes and they were OUTSTANDING. The ambiance of this restaurant transports you to those days where everything is quiet, calm and respectful. For entrees we ordered their 8 oz filet mignon with shrimp stuffed with crabmeat and that was perfectly paired with string beans and old fashion mashed potatoes and carrots. It was DELICIOUS. Also ordered their chateaubriand and that was PERFECT. We were beyond satisfied, so we took dessert home and the apple tartine was DELECTABLE! So, I absolutely hate overpaying for mediocre meals. Thankfully, you won't find that here!! The food was pricy but *delicious* and very much worth the cost. The staff were also attentive and friendly- We were visiting the area after a hike to Breakneck Ridge and didn't know what to expect but we were happy to give this restaurant our business! Post Covid lockdown restaurant review: There were sanitizer stations at several places. The tables were far apart. Everyone wore a mask. We were seated promptly and service was flawless. Menu and payment were contactless. This was our first dine in so naturally the above made it reassuring. The view is spectacular from their patio type place. But it was 92 the day we were there so we stayed indoors. Their house bread with the salsa was a good start to the meal. I'm off refined stuff now not my partner finished the bread off so promptly I want to say it was good :) The bartender was so sweet she agreed to hold off on the syrup for my strawberry martini. There was still some sweetness from the peach schnapps so highly recommend the drink without the syrup of you don't like sweet cocktails- so delicious please try. The Bee's Knees was spot on As well. We did spend some time at the bar just to calm down from the heat outside and they were extremely gracious about that. I started with the lobster bisque. Nice, chunky meat in the bisque and creamy texture. Nicely done. The crab cakes too were pretty nice. Not too 'crab'-ish if you know what I mean. They had a mustardy mayo dip thing to go with the cakes which was to die for. The flavors were all complimenting each other. For the main, I had shrimp stuffed crab (or vice versa I think) that came with carrots and potatoes and green beans. Veggies were pretty standard and cooked traditionally. No complaints there. The seafood concoction with the lemony sauce was great for that hot day. Nice flavors and a good portion. My partner had the steak which I tasted and it was pretty darn good too! I am off sugar so I'll hold off on the dessert review for now but they looked great! Overall, I'll definitely go back. We do a lot of hikes in that region and this place is the perfect way to end the day.
