Shoddy maintenance in rooms. Hot tub non-functional, ac in rooms worked but rest of hotel was uncomfortably warm. Stayed two consecutive nights, second night when checking in they tried to give me same room as previous night. I rejected it and they gave me an "upgraded" room. Condition of room was no better except that the AC didn't rattle like an old jalopy like my first room. This is now a franchise hotel not corporately owned or run. I won't be back. If you have their breakfast, don't let the cinnamon rolls cool because they become hard as rocks. read more

The hotel needs to step it up, especially with a lot of competition in the area. First stop the room's bathroom. Skid marks on the toilet and a bowl rim that obviously was not clean. I got some wipes and cleaned the bathroom and the room. Used many wipes!! The tub had a number of hairs both long and curly!!! The bed was sloppily made but sheets were clean. Breakfast was fair, the standard menu. The juice was watered down! The woman taking care of the food also went and did the laundry collection. No gloves or washing of hands that I noticed. The rooms were dirty and damp! The rate we were told at check in was different from our charges on my receipt and also different than what was charged on my card & the website has a totally different price. I was charged 174 a night for crappy rooms. We were not treated good when we tried to address it and the guy ended up hanging up. We are disputing it with our credit card now! We had 3 rooms for 3 nights not one time did anyone come in to clean or give us new towels & coffee. I had to go to the desk everyday. The 3rd floor smells like a rotten egg trash all over the floor. This place will scam you! Be careful! For the price of the rooms.. go to the Hilton! It was literally the same price we were charged. For a 1 star hotel because that's exactly what it is. It's NOT the holiday inn chain your used to I think they were bought out and using the holiday inn name as everything they have comes from Sam's Club! All the way down to the towels. This is horrible hotel!! And very dishonest employees!! My receipt given to me is less than what I was charged on 2 of the 3 rooms I booked! Thankfully my card company stopped all payments! First time staying here, and only for one night when I was working nearby. My King room was very spacious and clean. My room had a large whirlpool with shower, and a separate sitting area with tv. My only complaint was the breakfast. Breakfast started at 6:00 am and by 6:30 most of the pans were empty. The scrambled egg pan was empty, there was gravy but the biscuit pan was empty, no cinnamon rolls. There were several guests standing around waiting for more food to be brought out. I waited a few minutes but then had to leave to get to work. I know HIE breakfasts aren't fine dining but I do count on being able to grab a quick breakfast where I stay there read more

Our reservation for 35 students for an event at ISU in January was cancelled without being notified. Coordinator called to confirm in December and was told "oh we cancelled that because we don't take checks anymore". Coordinator was originally told he could pay with a check on arrival when he made the reservation in September. The hotel made no attempt to rectify the situation. Thank goodness he called to confirm everything and fortunately was able to get reservations at a different brand of hotel nearby. read more

Great night stay last night at this hotel in Bloomington. The staff was very accommodating to my late check in, having my room ready to go for me to get into very quickly! Enjoyed the spacious room with a very comfy bed and pillow assortment. My favorite thing about staying at a Holiday Inn Express is the free breakfast, including great coffee and food options for everyone's diet! The location was very easy off the interstate. Holiday Inn Express Bloomington IL provided comfort and cleanliness for our one night in town. All members of the staff were friendly and allowed us to check in early. This hotel has a pool and hot tub, so we were able to enjoy these to ourselves in the early afternoon! The breakfast was plentiful & attendants were on hand to make sure you had what you needed. The room was very clean, and the entire hotel smelled fresh. The continental breakfast had a lot of options including fresh pancakes. I have to remove a star for a few maintenance and staff issues we had. We had a total of three rooms and two had plumbing issues. One, the toilet wouldn't stop running and then wouldn't flush. The other, the shower wasn't draining properly. When we called down around 12:30am about the broken toilet, nobody answered. We walked downstairs and the front desk worker was sitting in the lobby watching tv and ignoring the ringing phone. I get watching tv, it's the middle of the night and not a big deal. But literally ignoring the phone is a little much. Even with the issues we had, the bed was firm but comfortable and the hotel was very clean. We would stay there again if needed. read more

The holiday inn express west in Bloomington IL, is a breathe of fresh air. We arrived very late night after an exhausting drive. The staff was welcoming and checked us in a timely manner. The room is spacious with a refrigerator and a microwave. Coffee marker in the room helps as well. I was able to wake up early to use the fitness center and the pool. Both were clean and well kept. Steak and shake is 24 hours across the street for a warm meal. Walmart is close by. Bob Evans is also available The breakfast available was more than I expected. First of all, pulling into the hotel it is in a very good part of the neighborhood. There are plenty of restaurants that are in a short drive, or even a brisk walk away from the hotel. Checking in was quick and easy absolutely no hassle and the employee at the front desk was extremely nice and professional. My room was very nice, big and clean. It has a very comfortable king sized bed and a separate area with a couch, chair and desk. This was very nice for me because I work from my room and extra space made it very comfortable in doing so. I used their pool and whirlpool. Both very clean and very nice. It was very relaxing after a long drive that day. The morning I checked out once again no hassle and they had a very nice breakfast buffet. Both hot and cold breakfast items. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Room was decent enough, but not that clean, especially coming off of COVID. Bathroom had ONE little bar of soap (1"x2") in bathroom to both wash hands and shower? Went to front desk and they gave a bottle of Dove Body wash. Dark hair in shower that is not ours, besides that it was clean enough to get through the night. I booked this hotel based on past IHG Express stays with included 'complimentary FULL BREAKFAST' and it was anything but good. This has zero to do with staff shortages, and all about the new cheap property owners. It was a Saturday morning and basically scrambled eggs and coffee was your choice. No orange juice! no standard continental breakfast food at all! extremely disappointed considering we paid almost $200 for a night stay at this dump. Outside is neglected, no grass at all, all weeds, not mowed. In speaking with staff, the new "cheap" owner took over a couple months ago, and EVERYTHING has suffered. Breakfast was almost non-existent and definitely not to par with past IHG stays with breakfast items when this is part of our night stay cost. They also cut staff pay, and basically blaming shortcomings on staff shortage. Here's some advice, don't be a 'slumlord' and provide the amenities your guests pay for and expect at an IHG property, and take care of your staff. IHG should be ashamed to allow property owners/managers like this to represent their brand. I know going forward I will research the name of owner before booking. My advice to others is to avoid this location like the plague! I gave location two stars due to the hard working staff. read more

On my way to Springfield from Chicago, I made an unplanned overnight stop to this HIE. I arrived around midnight and was happy when the clerk offered to take $10 off the room rate since I arrived so late. On initial inspection, the room seemed fine. However it was one of the hottest, muggiest nights of the summer and the air wasn't on. Instead, they'd left the fan on to circulate the hot, steamy air in the room, so the smell in the room was musty and putrid. I finally got the air on the cool the room (which worked) and decided to get into bed and check emails. The bed was disgusting. There were stray hairs, lint, etc.. The pillows looked like they'd been washed and dried in a dried that shrunk them and made them into a shriveled ball. In trying to find an outlet near the bed, I had to pull the mattress away from the wall to get to a plug behind the bed and was horrified to find small black specs on the box-spring. I don't know what those black specs were and I don't want to know. I will just pretend I didn't see them. I BARELY slept. I kept feeling like things were crawling on me. I barely even got under the covers because I was afraid that they weren't clean. I got this impression that the housekeeper simply remade the bed with the same linen from the guest previous and called it a day. Gross. I never walked around the room without shoes and I opted not to even use the shower in the morning, I was just too grossed out. Breakfast the next morning was an absolute joke. There were two female employees standing near the juice machine with one who was sipping a glass of OJ telling the other employee that it didn't taste fresh. Gross. The visual presentation of the breakfast area left much to be desired. It felt like they'd put out whatever they felt like putting out that day (which wasn't much) or that they hadn't properly planned the breakfast order for the week and the items left out were leftovers from the week before. Needless to say I didn't eat anything for breakfast. The workout room was adequate, if all you're looking for is a treadmill. The towels are disgusting; thin, worn, and smelly. I hated the positioning of the equiptment, too. I'm not sure how they even can pass this off as a gym. Also, the Wi-Fi access in this hotel is spotty. Just another annoyance on this trip. read more

I stayed here a year ago, but since joining Yelp a bit ago I thought I should come back to review. I stayed here on business as a half-way point between locations on a road show before going to Peoria the next morning. The staff up front was very nice, however overnight my car was busted into. Now I'm not saying "if you stay here your car will be broken into" ... but just park safe. What really made the experience bad was when I called later for some sort of help that might assist with filing the police report for some stolen items, the person on phone was completely cold about it (I had to get to a meeting where I was the speaker and head out in a hurry). I just got the blanket "you park at your own risk" ... Yeah OK I get that bad things are going to happen, but the empathy was zero. The only guy who showed moderate concern was someone who seemed to be maintenance staff who loaned me a broom to clean up as much of the broken glass as I could. Any level of staff can be awesome when things are going just fine and give you your complimentary cookie and water. But when something real happens, they need to know how to handle that to. I was never looking for some token monetary handout, just some level of understanding and assistance in this extraordinary circumstance. read more

Horrible! This is the first Holiday In Express we have stayed at and not enjoyed. The bathroom was dirty, especially the tub. I called the front desk and he offered us another room. I looked at the other room and it the bathroom was also dirty. I asked if I could just get cleaned for the bathroom because we were all exhausted and the kids needed showers. He gave me a washcloth and a bottle of Comet. Then he said. "I guess I could clean it if you want." I just cleaned it myself so I could know it was done. There were lots of gnats and even a spider crawled across the floor. For breakfast the eggs were gone all morning and even the other guests were saying someone had dropped the ball. There wasn't anyone at the front desk all morning. I'm guessing he is used to complaints so he simply hid somewhere while people checked out. We will never stay here again. read more

While traveling out of town for a job interview I had to find a hotel for the night. I needed a place with a bed, a shower, and a business center. After checking in with a few other places this had what I needed while looking more than decent. After checking with the front desk what the price would be, I kind of shuddered ($99...yikes!). But I was tired and I needed to get to bed. After checking in I went up to my room and was surprised in a very good way. The room looked better than a hundred bucks. Very large, very spacious, very comfortable. The room had a small fridge and microwave. The fridge was a pleasant surprise since I had a twelve-pack of Mt. Dew in the car and it's much nicer to have cold soda rather than warm soda during a long drive. There was a ridiculous amount of channels on the high definition TV and the bed was really comfy. And the business center worked out just fine as well. I was not expecting such a nice stop-over at a Holiday Inn. Best in Bloomington...so far. Out of the places I've stayed in Bloomington this has been my favorite so far. This is the only place that has yet to get me back for a second week. The rooms are nice and large, and everything (except the bathtub) seems new and clean. Pros: The rooms have microwaves and mini-fridges, always a great bonus. Free WiFi that actually works with decent speed! Typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast. Cons: small workout room, pool looks murky, bathtub has rust spots. Overall the pros greatly outweigh the cons. Upon arrival we were greeted and checked in promptly by the front desk staff. Very friendly and helpful, also supplied us with complimentary bottles water. The room was spacious and clean, with comfy beds and pillows! It was a nice cozy hotel in the midst of a very cold evening. Breakfast was great, with variety of options. As a traveling musician with a band to feed, I'm all about the complementary breakfast in the morning and Holiday Inn did not disappoint. From 6-9:30a, omelette's, eggs, sausage, bagels, muffins, pancakes, fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice and of course coffee are available. The food was hot and the spread had something for everyone. This was my first stay in a Holiday Inn Express, and I will definitely be back. The property was easy to get to from the interstate, but far enough back that you didn't get any of the street noise. In the area were multiple restaurants as well as a grocery store for people staying longer or who wanted to cook for themselves. On approach, the property was clean and the parking lot was laid out well for easy access and exit. The check in and check out processes were both very quick, and the staff was friendly. The room was spacious and clean, and the appliances (keurig, micorwave, refrigerator, small range) all worked just fine. The hotel has a pool and fitness center, but I did not use either of those. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was tasty and had a lot of options including vegetarian options that I didn't try, but I appreciate having the option. I travel to central Illinois on a regular basis, I will definitely be back. read more

I had a top-notch stay stopping off here on my way to Iowa on a recent road trip. First of all the staff is very friendly and got me checked in without the slightest delay. My room was spacious and clean. I especially enjoyed my comfy king bed and a huge sofa. I don't know if I was just so tired or if the HIE is just putting sheets on top of clouds but I slept better the night I stayed here than I have in a long while. Another perk to staying at a Holiday Inn express is their world class free hot breakfast. They have literally anything you could hope to eat when you wake up in the morning, even Cinnabon's (no, not cinnabuns... actual Cinnabons). Had a few nights off during a big tour. Decided to stay here for a few nights and would come stay again anytime. Very comfortable room. King Size bed was great with a good breakfast in the morning. It was a great location right off the freeway, with a steak and shake right next door open late. It was a $10 Uber ride to a downtown bar for a couple drinks. Nice pool and hot tub and workout room. Here is my breakdown: Friendless at check in: 3- I am not sure he was happy to be there or if he was just new and really focused on getting us checked in. Not rude just not outgoing. Staff: 5 - Everyone in the halls were very friendly. Bathroom: 5 - Very Clean! A little small but seriously how much time do you spend in the bathroom. Pool: 2 - SO loud!!! You couldn't hear each other. We actually moved out to the patio area behind the hotel and let the kids swim. This is the smallest pool we've ever seen in a Holiday Inn. Water was cloudy. Breakfast: 5- We are traveling with 10 & 11 year olds and they said this is the best selection yet. We agree. Everything was hot and great choices!!! Hot tub: 4- was very nice! A little cloudy but I own a hot tub and I thrive on clean water so to be fair this looked pretty good! Bed: 3 - Stray hairs kind of grossed me out a little. Picked them out of the bed and slept on "Clean" sheet. Comfy beds and pillows though! Location: 5 - For us it was right off the highway we needed to get back on in the morning. Perfect! Quiet area which was very nice. This was a nice place and was quiet. Good food choices are close. We ate Mexican food right down the road and that was some of the best Mexican food we've had! Unfortunately because we are traveling with kids and the pool area being so loud we wouldn't choose to stay here again. I completely understand pool areas are loud but this is beyond loud. Covid Cluelessness My wife and I needed a hotel room over the holiday weekend. We trusted in a high profile brand like IHG to get things right in this time of pandemic. We were disappointed. Upon entering the hotel we only saw two people. A guest and a front desk attendant. Neither was wearing a mask. I asked the front desk person to put a mask on. She complied but made up an excuse that the plexiglass shield should have been enough. This wasn't late at night, but more primetime, so I'd expect the mask to be automatic. We saw only one other person for the entire stay. Upon leaving the room in the morning I was greeted by a mask-less cleaning person. This was 9:30am, so she must have expected any guests to be moving around, checking out, etc. Why no mask? Months into the pandemic, it should not be so difficult to follow basic safety precautions, comply with the law, and make guests feel safe. I use IHG because I trusted a major player in the hotel industry would have it's act together. That's not the case. read more

Was my favorite place to stay in Bloomington, until I checked my checking account. Hotels often put a hold on your account for incidentals but they release the money after you check out. 3 times out of the 20 times I stayed it took me calling them repeatedly to get my money back, and this was weeks after I had checked out! I stay for business and now the company I work for no longer lets us stay here because of that. That was my only complaint. The night front desk employees are very friendly and the rooms are clean, and a great breakfast. Just watch your account if you stay here and you will be fine. I am very much aware of how my bank works and how hotels work, I travel 8-9 months out of the year! The times this happened they charged my account, it wasn't a pending charge. Each time I gave it a couple of weeks and when I called the hotel to get it straightened out they said it was the same lady that did this every time and they apologized and took care of it. read more
