This is a 5-star 2star hotel! We weren't expecting the Ritz. For a 2-star Holiday Inn where we could spend the night during a pass through, this was a wonderful experience. The room was comfortably sized, and the bed was comfy and clean. The washing basin was located RIGHT by the door, which was a little weird... I usually see a closet there. But that was the weirdest thing in the place. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. Water pressure was just perfect. Coffee maker was a Keurig, so easy enough to use - but the coffee at the breakfast was quite good and we didn't need to use the Keurig in our room. The refrigerator was a bit bigger than what I've seen in most hotel rooms, which was nice. There was a little USB port for charging devices next to the lamp - but just one, with 2 ports. Breakfast was good enough to hold us over until dinner! Overall, a great stay and a comfortable night! read more

Rounding down from 2.5. Typical hotel but needing some surface updates. Old wallpaper and decor. The towels were thin. Our first room smelled like cigarettes but they changed us to a different room which was nice. They offer a pool, fitness center, and breakfast with eggs, yogurt, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, toast, and cereal. I was late in booking a hotel for an event in Madison, WI so when I saw there were rooms available not too far away, I thought, this choice made sense. I was extremely impressed with the size of the room. They had a nice sized fridge, a microwave and Keurig (though I didn't use it). The bed was super comfortable and everything was so clean! What impressed me most was even though I was having car problems, the front desk was super helpful. Kurt helped me book another night then, later, when I decided not to stay Sunday night, he readjusted my reservation again. The breakfast was really yummy and had a nice selection of food that was both protein and carbohydrate packed. The area was kept stocked and cleaned the entire time. The attendant was very friendly and made sure everyone had what they needed. If I return to Madison, I definitely would consider staying at this Holiday Inn Express again! Way to go! read more

We booked this room. It had no AC. We called the front desk and this lady came up. She turned it off at the thermostat and unit and it did not work. My children are in the middle of taking baths and getting ready for bed. She then told us to get out if we did not like the fact there was no AC. We booked thru hotels.com. When we asked for a refund she told us to "f off" and call them. When we contacted them they said she claimed we were rude. This general manager put three kids under ten out with no where to go. She is rude. The establishment is rude. The fact that it's deal with a room with no AC or leave is unreal. This lady's name is Nicole Sevick and she's a horrible manager and person. read more

This hotel is a prime spot. There are restaurants all around it such as Taco Bell, Arby's, Subway to name a few. All within walking distance. My daughter & I stayed here one evening after a long drive from Washington state. We had driven 20+ hours. The hotel is very nice and clean. We had 2 queen beds comfortable enough for us. We were able to rest well and shower prior to heading back on the road. I would recommend this hotel. read more

Breakfast more than adequate and lobby bright and cheery. My boyfriend and I stayed the night, and it seemed like there was a kids sports team staying there. We expected some upsets because there were kids running around. But we went down to get breakfast at 7:30 and all of the breakfast sausage was gone. We waited 20 minutes, until one of the adults asked the breakfast attendant if they would have any more sausage. The attendant had a deer-in-the-headlights look, and said "ummm no." I feel like it's bad management knowing that you're going to have 20 kids and their parents and siblings staying at a hotel and not budgeting for that when they'd obviously booked a ton of rooms. read more

There were warm cookies and popcorn available at check-in, and as a Spire elite, I also received a baggy of cheese curds from the place across the street. Mid road trip from San Mateo, CA to Western MA, I got an unexpected call from my friend Lucas. His wife, my close friend Jamie, was going to have her baby...that very night! I was in Bismarck, ND at the time, a short 760 miles from where Jamie was currently getting ready to have an emergency c-section. Our plan had been to arrive in Milwaukee the following day and spend the weekend with very pregnant Jamie and her hubby Lucas. Complications with the pregnancy necessitated a change of plans! The plan turned in to a marathon day of driving, hitting lots of traffic following an accident in Minneapolis, and arriving a little short of our destination. We made it to De Forest, WI, crashed for the night and arrived bright and early the next morning in Wauwatosa, WI to see the beautiful new mommy, proud papa, and little baby Bryn. The Holiday Inn Express in De Forest is conveniently located right off the highway, is close to Madison (about 15 miles) and not a far drive from Milwaukee (about an hour and a half). Best of all, the beds were amazingly comfortable (I LOVE THE SIMPLY SMART BEDDING), and despite the stress and worry I managed to get a good night's sleep. Whenever I stay at a Holiday Inn Express, I always want to steal the sheets and pillows. Apparently, this isn't something new because they now sell them at participating Holiday Inn locations, including this one. I also loved the Express Start Breakfast Bar. I could lie and say it's because of the yogurt and fruit, but really, it is for the cinnamon rolls, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy... Very impressed with our hotel stay here over the Holidays. Checked in a little later than we wanted but was still greeted with a clean lobby and smiling face. Popcorn was a plus too! Three floors, very clean and secure. Salted entryways and parking lot was nice considering the icy conditions we had in the days before our stay. The breakfast was wonderful, and free! Hot options such as Cinnabun bites, sausage, eggs and biscuits. Your typical cold options like cereal, toast, bagels and juice. I enjoyed the Greek yogurt options as well. They just went above and beyond on the buffet. Can't say enough about how cozy the beds and pillows were! The pillows were even labeled 'firm' and 'soft'. Huge variety of channels on the TV as well as a microwave, fridge and Keurig in each room. The pool and hot tub area would be as expected, although the pool was quite warm. Plenty of towels and chairs. We would absolutely stay here again. read more

Let's be honest, on it's best day this hotel is a three and one half. We have been staying here for years as we have family in the area and it's a solid three on a regular basis. Usually have a comfortable bed and a relatively clean room. Pool is often over run with less than considerate folks young and old but if you keep an eye out you can sneak in a hot tub. Breakfast protein is often gone quickly so get there early. Third party buyers beware! They will reassign your room if they see fit. All in all a solid three. read more

Older hotel. Outdated carpet and room set ups. Bathroom fan is crazy loud. You can't wait to finish and get out before going deaf. Our room smelled extremely musty., but appeared to be clean. I'm guessing there was some water in the carpet at some point. Generally speaking it just needs a good updating. I have been at 5 hotels in 5 days while on a road trip. I worked at this establishment for a month at the beginning it wasn't that bad just a few off comments like there old genral manga asked to touch my hair... im a young african american women, lets also mention i would bike at 8:30 in the morning in the cold just to make it there 15 minutes before my shift started the bike ride was 30 minutes...they hired the new general manager carl and it started of with the first comment he made to me which he body shamed me by saying "oh your big for your age" and "they're making them big in deforest now aren't they" i ignored his comments and laughed them off then come to find hes talking badly about me to other coworkers saying "i need help" "im not a good worker" and all types of things along the sorts which is unbelievable because before he came i was a great worker to everyone and i worked very hard, then as im wiping off windows hes complaining about me to a grown man im a minor... so i respect fully quit and he again started bad mouthing me to his employees calling me replaceable and telling others i had alot to work on hes degrading me again im a minor and hes in his mid 50's probably, dosent that sound questionable? and then the hispanic Spanish speaking staff there talks badly about you if you dont speak spanish... It was Holiday Inn. The staff was pleasant. Cleanliness was ok. I am in the cleaning industry, so I pay attention to details. The exhaust fan in the shower was dirty. The drain in the tub was super slow. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 3 is because of the pancake maker. Most hotels do waffles, but they had pancakes! Look I've stayed here Before, always for work. It's not a bad hotel it's not a nice place that I'd stay on vacation or with my family. The staff is very friendly. But during my recent stay, and last stay for that matter. The room I was rented was infested by some sort of June bug. This is definitely not a bed bug situation, however it is still gross. Upon further inspection the room I was in and the new room I was given was fairly dusty and not actually clean. I'm not talking about surface dirt from guests. I'm talking about the type of build up you get from never doing and sort of deep cleaning/ maintenance. Anyways I won't be back. The staff is nice but this location needs to put in some work on their property. They didn't charge me for my room and gave me extra reward points max. They tried to make it right. Only bad experience I've had with any holiday inn or ihg affiliate. (These pictures don't do the situation justice. A lot of the bugs were on the floor or parts of the room where you just couldn't see them in an iPhone pic. Hotel management went up to the room and agreed with me.) read more

We were so impressed by this hotel's willingness to accommodate all our special needs. First, they allowed us to park our RV in the back and plug into electric so we didn't lose our refrigerated items that night until we took it into be serviced the next day. Also, they allow pets (for an extra $20 per pet) which helped us out! Finally the biggest surprise was that they were not only willing to offer us a late check out for 2pm upon request, but when our RV wasn't done by then, they extended a couple more hours at no fee. I am so grateful for their generosity during a stormy and challenging time that gave us a warm, comfortable place to be with our kitty as long as we needed it. We'd stay here again for sure, and highly recommend it to others! read more

Very pleased with our stay here. We were on our way home from vacation when we got caught in a terrible storm and had to take the nearest exit before we got in an accident. The storm wasn't going to end any time soon, so I looked up nearby hotels and found this one. I called the front desk and asked if I can pay extra for early check in (this was 2 hours before check in time) and she said it was free and that she'll check if my room was cleaned and tell the cleaning staff to clean it next if not. The people at the desk were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in the king jacuzzi suite and it was wonderful. Plenty of room in the jacuzzi, comfy bed, big TV. Everything was wonderful. The only problem was that the ceiling in our bathroom started leaking. We called the front desk and let them know. They were super friendly and resolved the issue immediately by calling the room above us, asking if they overflowed their bathtub-they did. Overall, had a great stay here. So glad we got caught in the rain. read more
