Soft beds, nice floor plan for the suites, and quiet rooms. My cousin had a room adjacent and complained of the loud noises & ice machine going off throughout the night. This location of Hyatt Place is in a superb location, two blocks from the capitol square in Madison Wisconsin. Madison, WI, has the population of a smaller city, but a lot of the amenities of cities much bigger. And the ambience is so much influenced by its status of being the state capitol AND hosting the flagship university. Going to school here, raising our family, and working for the university made us pretty knowledgeable of the area. But I've never had the opportunity to stay downtown, so we jumped at the chance to spend a night here when our future SiL mentioned he wanted to visit the world famous Dane County Farmer's market on Saturday morning. My wife and I haven't been to one in many years, so this hotel's location was perfect. It is a category 3 Hyatt because of its location, and I ended up having to use 12k points for one night (as a reference, a category 1 Hyatt would only cost 5k points) But unlike the other Hyatt stays where we used a 3rd party travel site, because this was directly through Hyatt, I got the loyalty benefits like free bottled water, upgraded room, and late checkout (2pm) that were particularly useful on this trip. Like other Hyatt Places, it is pet friendly with a per stay fee of $75. Parking is in a shared multi-level garage that is connected directly to the hotel, and costs $20 per night (this fee doesn't include tax so ended up paying a bit more than that). You need a room key to get in, so must checkin first before you can park (and it does have in/out privileges). We checked in after 4 pm on that Friday, got settled in, and then took a short walk to the capital square. Hyatt Place offers rooms that have 3 sleeping beds (2 queens, and a sofa bed). This room had a microwave and a mini fridge. The AC worked well on a hot Midwest summer day. I had a chance to use the fitness center, and it had a few modern equipment pieces, including a elliptical. The ground floor also had a filtered water dispenser (the tap water in this area can be very soft so this came in handy). The stay comes with a free breakfast buffet, and like the other hyatt places we've stayed at, it wasn't great, even on a weekend. It had scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and french toast, but no sort of potatoes. They did have bagels and fresh cut up fruit (unlike our previous stay), but didn't have cream cheese. We needed to be back in Chicago by dinner time so our 2 pm late checkout was useful. It was a great stay, and the location to the capitol and the university can't be beat. read more

Stayed here for 2 nights in August and again in October and was mostly quite pleased. The rooms were at the high end of what I see at HP properties and there were a ton of electrical and USB-A outlets. Beware the AC is a bit finicky - I had one room with a floor unit that had its own controls and another room that got very cold because I could not seem to reduce the fan speed. But all things considered would rather have strong AC than none. The frig was large and breakfast was much better than you find at competing chains. Unfortunately there is a massive construction project on the street in front of the hotel (maybe replacing pipes) and the noise starts at 7am every day of the week. You will not sleep through it though earplugs help. It is also completely unpredictable - it mostly stopped by midday. The staff said the project should be done before October (after all they do get snow here) but it is still ongoing. In any case I would strongly urge you to request a room at the back. I reluctantly switched after the first night and could still hear the noise this morning but it was definitely better in back. Parking is $20/night with in/out privileges and a quick walk into the hotel from the garage. Staff is super nice. Never saw anyone in the rather tiny gym though the small pool was mostly toddlers. Overall 5* but subtract 1 for the construction noise. Look forward to returning next time I visit Madison as the rate is usually well below the AC and Doubletree. read more

Me and wife stayed here one night as we were traveling. The hotel is located right in the main are next to the capitol building. There is a parking garage for the hotel in back which has a hallway leading to it from the lobby area. The hotel is nice. Lobby is on smaller side but clean and nice. There is an indoor pool but it is small. They also offer grab and go items as well as free breakfast. The rooms are nice. I wouldn't say large but well laid out with a couch in it as well as a desk. There is also a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. It is clean and updated. The bathroom has the sink outside and a walk in shower that is really wide. All in all we were very pleased with the accommodations as well as location. If ever in area again would definitely stay here. read more

After a short while, they contacted us that the stuffy was found! They truly went above and beyond to help get our item back. Such wonderful staff that really cares about their customers! I don't know how I didn't realize this was here. As a local I don't need hotels often in town, but this is a good location with clean modern styling. Great for guests visiting the capitol or UW. Only a few blocks to the square, proximity to lots of dining and even the Kohl Center. Walkable safe area with a blend of student housing more upscale condos. Really enjoyed my few nights' stay at the Hyatt Place. Centrally located in Downtown Madison, you're a few blocks from the Capital and State Street. Check in was a breeze and was one of many friendly interactions with staff. "Welcome Back" was heard every time I returned, so nice! Parking is just $15/night, and the rooms are nice little suites perfect for the traveling worker. Free breakfast was adequate (psst, don't let them know that I went out for a bigger breakfast the second morning). Probably my only knock on the hotel is there was no clear communication about turning over the room so I was surprised to come back to an unmade bed and a room that hadn't been touched! If you're doing "green" service just be clear about it, we're all used to opting out. Would 100% stay here again! read more

The parking could have been explained better. 1.) swipe your room key to enter & exit and take a left as soon as you enter the garage and go up one level and you'll be at the lobby level of the hotel where there are plenty of hotel designated parking spaces. We stayed here one night in a room with a king bed. It was very spacious and clean. The thermostat seemed very temperamental and it was hard to get it right. I woke up kind of sweaty in the middle of the night since I turned down the freezing ac. The hotel itself was nice. The free breakfast had many options both hot and cold. There were plenty of dining areas in the lobby. There were some soda options for purchase, Pepsi products. I would have liked the ability to purchase an alcoholic beverage to enjoy in my room or the lobby but they don't offer that. The garage is confusing! Turn before the hotel to get to it. When you enter, make a left and go to level C or D and look for the signs for Hyatt guests and the entrance to the hotel. Then when you go in, go to the desk to tell them you parked there and get a sign to put on your dashboard. You can pull in and get the sign first as well and make a left and get to the garage. Maybe you know an easier way to do it. There are plenty of places to eat and drink within walking distance, so we never used the car once we parked. All in all a nice option if you want to stay near the Capitol. read more

Having stayed here many times since it first opened, I have to say it has become more and more over shadowed by the newer hotels that have sprouted up near the campus. The problem with these mid scale hotels is they don't age well and for me it's getting to be time for some updates at this place as the bar has been raised. Pros: -location near campus and capital -suite style configuration of the rooms -in-room mini fridge -convenient parking garage -free breakfast (now with conditions-only if you are a Hyatt member and booked direct with Hyatt). Challenges: -itty bitty bathroom -VERY POOR noise insulation from hallway and rooms above and nearby -starting to seem a bit out of date Overall it's still a solid place to stay for a day or two, but it's definitely lost a bit of its luster for me. read more

Three day mini-vacation w kids in Madison to get away from busy Chicago. + Great location by the Capitol, UW campus, and State Street with a lot of restaurants nearby + $15 per day parking with in/out privileges + pool + breakfast + lobby where you can eat + parking lot connected to the hotel so you can get your luggage from car and go to hotel without braving the elements + clean + courteous staff + refrigerator in the room + microwave at lobby Needs improvement: - We came at 3pm and were told we needed to wait for our room because of cleaning staff shortage. We booked a room via the Hyatt preferred member app a few weeks ahead so it was disappointing that we had to wait even if they knew we were arriving. We made it a point to arrive at 3pm vs earlier to ensure the hotel had our room ready. Luckily, the front desk manager took over and was able to get us a room ASAP. (Thank you, madam, if you are reading this.) - Room had odd layout: 1) Closet is at the middle of the room with awkward positioning that you can barely get to the back of the closet. It is small, too. 2) A two queen bedroom had a measly 3 small drawers. In my opinion, the open shelves under the TV should be converted to more drawers. Ou family of 4 had to put our clothes on the sofa because the drawers and closet were too small. 3) The TV was awkwardly put in the middle of the room so the living area was useless because you can barely watch TV straight from the sofa. 4) The "dining" area had no sink. The only sink in the room is by the bathroom. 5) Room layout was awkward: As soon as you enter, you will be greeted by the living and dining space, followed by the beds. Then, the big mirror and the bathroom facing the bed. Such an odd layout because if someone goes to the bathroom at night, everyone on the bed will be disturbed by bright lights of the bathroom. One of the beds also has a straight shot view of the toilet if the bathroom door is open. Not a relaxing/aesthetically-pleasing layout at all. The room layout should be: As soon as you enter, closet on left and bathroom on right, seating/dining area, then the beds by the windows. Drawers should be by bedroom area and there should be more than 3 small drawers. In the bathroom, hooks and a shelving system on the wall behind the toilet are also needed to hang one's towel, and put one's clothes when showering. Hooks by the door would help, too, so we can put our bulky coats by the door. Overall, a good stay. We will come back. I just wished I can change the room layout. read more

I stayed at this location for 6 nights while I was in town for work at the VA hospital. This place blew me away with just the customer service (Shout out to Lina!), and just the overall condition of the hotel. My room was clean, and very modern which is what I have come to expect with my current Hyatt experiences. My room did have a small mini fridge but no microwave but I don't know if maybe the bigger suites have one? As a bonus, this hotel is located really close to the state capitol and State street which is very convenient. Lots of shops and restaurants. I took off 1 star just because I felt the fitness could use some TLC in terms of adding some more weights but it's not a deal breaker. It's also not far from UW which I walked through almost every day walking to the VA hospital which is about a 2 mile walk. For this stay it was just me and I had plenty of towels and everything I needed that I requested not to have housekeeping come in while I was there although they asked me if I needed anything when I passed them in the hallway which was great. There's also a really good coffee shop not far from this place called Barriques which I recommend. I would definitely stay here again! read more

I love the location and the parking I came this last weekend and had a less positive experience and customer service did not even try to give us anything to accommodate. The rooms are not super updated but are clean. The rooms are huge and the beds are really nice. Linens nice. Housekeeping (didn't have them clean but did ask for more supplies) very professional and attentive. Front desk- very pleasant. Some people complained about no luggage help- I haven't been to a Hyatt PLACE or Hampton Inn where they do help with luggage. Breakfast- wonderful Parking- easy peasy Shuttle- useful IF you are coming/going during the operating hours. What went wrong?I had a room request for low floor to avoid elevators and not have to walk to the 8th floor. Was assured both nights they could do that. Their answer when I checked in? I don't know what happened but we don't have your room anymore. OK. Then I asked if they were going to do something for us and they said yes. Zero. Nothing. Zero. That, will make me switch to the Hampton Inn. The Sat night I stayed, other hotels were available for much less. WE PICKED this one because they assured me of accommodating the low floor. They didn't. Paid A LOT more to stay at the lesser rated Hyatt Place for nothing. read more

The parking lot at this Hyatt is a torture chamber. It's only three levels but we were trapped for awhile going in circles unable to figure out how the heck to get out. The signage is confusing and frustrating. The staff at this Hyatt ranges from nice to aloof though no one we encountered was particularly outstanding. Our check-in process was clunky and awkward. Getting drinks at the bar downstairs was fine, very long line around 10pm and totally overpriced but it's a hotel bar and to be expected I suppose. All that being said, our room was beautiful. It was huge, the bed was really comfortable plus it had a separate area with couches. This worked well for my group to have a nice night cap drinking and chilling. Great amenities in the hotel, as well. If you're looking for a hotel that has a great location within blocks of The Square where all the Madison action is, this is a great option. Beware of the Hellish parking garage and don't expect well informed and friendly service, then you'll be fine and enjoy your stay. read more

Solid hotel with all the amenities you need and centrally located in the downtown area walking distance to the capitol building, State Street bars / restaurants / shopping, and even walking distance to UW Madison campus. All in all not much to complain about this one thus the high rating. PROS: -Rooms are spacious! Whether you get a king set up or a double queen set up, there's a living area with a large couch and pull out bed. Very roomy! -Free continental breakfast every morning; fresh scrambled eggs, toast, cereal options, bacon, pancakes, oatmeal, fresh fruit -Free courtesy shuttle that no one seems to really know about or utilize. No need to taxi or uber/lyft anywhere really. They were more than willing to drop us off at Memorial Union at UW Madison and willing to pick us up from anywhere in Madison as long as it was before 10pm. Sweet! -Small gym to get a sweat on -Small indoor pool to dip into -Lobby area was clean plus included a bar area in case you wanted to buy a quick snack or grab a round of drinks to kill time -No issues getting more towels or soap / shampoo -Free wifi throughout CONS: -$12 for overnight parking includes in and out privileges but I mean free included parking would've been better. The accommodations were decent for the price I paid for a three day stay. Some of the front desk staff members weren't the friendliest while checking in. My daughter's basketball team and families stayed here, and we were told we'd all be on the same floor. That didn't happen, and when some of the parents inquired why their rooms were on different floors, if the rooms were reserved ahead of time. Unfortunately, the response given was very dismissive. The room itself was ok. The beds weren't very comfortable, and the layout of the room was a but odd (when you enter the room you walk into the kitchette/lounging area) there's no sink besides the bathroom sink, no microwave and the mini fridge didn't keep anything cool. Breakfast was offered but limited. The staff in the during the evening in the lounge area were very accommodating to our large group. Overall, this hotel is ok for a few days' stay if you're going to be in and out. read more

We have stayed here twice now and honestly, I love this place! It is my new go-to in Madison! It's not a 5 star hotel, but it is seriously all I need. I like when hotels are new, clean, and friendly. I love the modern decor and how the rooms are laid out. They are different than most hotel rooms I have been to. Everything is great quality. They have a good breakfast in the morning and you can order full breakfasts too that cost money. The regular one is free and had a great selection. I love that they have drinks and snacks you can buy at the front desk. The front desk staff was also very friendly. Friends we were with had an issue with their room and the hotel totally comped it! Free room! I have NEVER seen that done before. This is a great place to stay if you want a modern, hip hotel that isn't overly expensive and in a great location! PS Free wifi too! After driving 3 hours in thunderstorms and sideways rain we arrive at our Hotel to find the power is out. 3 hours later we need a plan B - we have to have power (for obvious reasons!). We were able to get into the Hyatt at 11PM at night. Staff was great, very welcoming. This is your standard Hyatt Place. Free wifi and breakfast daily are available, as well as a L-shaped couch and mini fridge. I do like having a L-shaped couch (functions as a pullout bed) because there is space to lounge. This is pretty standard at every Hyatt Place. Once you have stayed at one, you have stayed at them all in terms of layout. The following however is why this location gets two stars: I asked the front desk as to why the air conditioner doesn't stay on the whole time when in "fan" mode as opposed to "auto" mode. The guy said that the rooms are programmed to always be on "auto" mode. So then what is the point of having a "fan" mode at all? Nevertheless, the guy offered to have maintenance re-program and asked when would be a good time to fix. I left for the day and returned after 4PM. The hotel did not fix the air conditioner. It was so loud, like a train wrecking a dishwasher, that I just couldn't sleep all night. I can't sleep without some type of noise so I downloaded the white noise app in the middle of the night to use and turned off the air conditioner. The trash was not thrown away from the previous night. Considering there are not many trash cans in the first place (only two), I don't think it's a very high expectation to have trash thrown away daily. Luckily I didn't have anything smelly like a banana peel in there, but it's annoying. I will probably end up staying here again unfortunately due to location. This hotel is only a couple of blocks or so from the capitol building and the square surrounding the capitol. There are quite a bit of choices for restaurants within walking distance, so I'll probably end up here again! This brand-new hotel opened in April 2010 and is pretty much perfect for a stay in Madison. It's within walking distance to the University, the State Capitol, and the many restaurants along State Street. Cab fare from the airport will run about $20, but they also have a shuttle van. The room was clean and has a mini fridge and a giant TV that can be turned either in the direction of the couch or the bed. Closet is small but you probably don't need to be packing so many clothes anyway. Gym is basic but nice, you can plug your headphones in and watch TV directly on the treadmill screen. Didn't try the pool, but it looked nice (it's indoors). Free cold breakfast in the mornings (fruit, yogurt, cereal, bagels), or you can buy hot food, I think 24 hours. I ordered a turkey wrap for dinner one night and it was pretty good. I don't mean to sound like an advertisement but there really was nothing to complain about during my stay. The Hyatt Place, downtown Madison, is wonderful. I stayed in early May of 2021. The hotel is conveniently located next to my mom's nursing facility. The inside registration area is staffed, clean and when u walk in u are greeted with the smell of coffee immediately. The dining area is also in the registration 'lobby' area. There are slips to fill out for cold or hot free breakfast items as well as ur choice of a juice. It's NOT the fantastic buffet they normally have, but, in light of Covid- it's the best and only option they have. (although there was a recent 'graduation weekend' where the hotel was mostly full and the buffet returned and was fantastic....but only for the busy weekend and then closed again the next Monday. I am confused by that. Is citing Covid an easy excuse to keep it closed when the hotel is not busy? If the hotel can open the buffet for a busy weekend and then close it stating 'covid precautions' it seems to become the question of: "why is the buffet really closed.... if it can open when it's extremely busy but then to just close when it's not busy. I would think If it can be open safely for an entire weekend it should be able to be open when not as busy because less people in the hotel and at the buffet is easier to keep social distance precautions in place especially if it was done for the super busy graduation/Mother's Day weekend. It's a bit strange but I will ask the wonderful GM when I check out. ***The non buffet breakfast is certainly more than ok however. Moving on: The gym, pool and lobby area are all clean and comfortable. Parking area is organized and perfectly perfect and $15 a night. Maid service is non existent if u stay 3 days or less. The maid will clean ur room every 3 days if ur stay is that long or longer. Anything u need for those 3 days u can have sent up or can get at the front desk quite easily. Rooms are wonderful; I have a very bad back and I stay at The Hyatt because of the their comfort. The room itself is large, clean, bright and lovely. ** Management: I had a little issue w a staff member upon check in and I mentioned it to the general manager Melanie. She IS A GEM. I was immediately taken care of AND she was very thoughtful and added quite a few Vegan items to my refrigerator (and some energy drinks that she observed I was drinking). Wonderful, thank u Melanie, General Manager. She also took the time to leave me a genuine handwritten note as well as an email follow up to check to make sure my every need was satisfied(it was perfect) Her personal & caring attention to myself and my stay was superb..I am rating the hotel a 9.5 out of 10- a return of the buffet will then make my rating a 'rare' 10/10 for EVERYTHING WONDERFUL. Pps:. The free vegan breakfast options are: oatmeal, fresh fruits, cranberries, coconut, granola, white bread, peanut butter, jelly and Cheerios, along w apple and orange juice and of course coffee. The view from our room, the pool and this hotel's great location earned it 4 stars. Everything else about the hotel is so-so. The bed was a little lumpy and roll-y. Size of room was nice with sitting area and desk. The pool would have seemed small but since I had it to myself it was fine, water nice and warm. Breakfast was good and not so good. Scrambled eggs were like little crumbs, potatoes pale and limp, not sure what kind of meat was served - a strange kind of fatty bacon (?). The yogurt and fruit were good with fresh blueberries, strawberries and cantaloupe, plus granola to put on it. Oh, and the sourdough bread was delicious. read more

As a Hyatt Honors member, we decided to give the Hyatt Place another try. The location is great, so we booked a weeks stay at the Hyatt Place. The front desk staff was not overly friendly, unlike what we experienced last year. When we got to our room and started to unpack we realized that there were only three hangers in the closet. I called the front desk and asked for additional hanger. I was told by the front desk that they would "do their best" to get additional hangers. I told him that was not acceptable and he told me he would call me back. After a while, not hearing from the front desk, I called back and was told they were still working on it. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me that they were "looking for some". Bottom line----45 minutes later they were able to find a few extra hangers. Seriously----shouldn't a hotel have a few extra hangers on hand at all times? Ok... that problem was solved, so we were expecting this to be a one-time diversion. Unfortunately, we were sadly disappointed. The breakfast the next morning was terrible. Food was empty and there seemed to be no attempt to refill missing items. Table were left with prior diners dishes and most notably, every employee we encountered that morning NEVER greeted us (or any other guests). It appeared that everyone on staff was simply putting in time and had no desire to create a positive guest experience. Later that day we arrived back at the hotel and when we walked in there were three employees at the front desk talking to each other. NONE of them took the few seconds to acknowledge our presence with a simple "hello" or "welcome back". Two times during our stay I passed the manager in the hallways coming out of an office and all he did was glare straight ahead----never saying hello to us or any other guests. The hotel is also showing some disrepair.. The entrance by the garage had "wet paint" signs on the wall during our stay and it appeared that there was no ongoing work taking place. Carpeting in the room and the corner sofa upholstery were in sad shape; both needing a good cleaning or replacement. Otherwise, the room was clean. The bed was comfortable. After two days, we decided that we were paying a premium price for less than budget motel service by a staff that is clearly not into their jobs. We booked a different hotel and informed the front desk that we would be checking out. We are now staying at a great hotel, with friendly staff at half the cost we were paying at the Hyatt Place. We were very disappointed in our stay. There are plenty of lodging options in Madison and I am sure that this property will see a decline in returning guests with the evident lack of concern for the guest experience that we experienced. read more

I often times stay at Hyatt hotels. Whether it's Hyatt place or the general Hyatts. I find that they are always accommodating, affordable, and I love that it includes breakfast. That saves me on my per diem for work trips. This particular Hyatt place is in a great location. About 15 minutes away from the airport and also right by the Capitol building where most of the downtown shops and restaurants are. Everything is pretty much in walking distance. You could walk to the college campus if you wanted to but it's about a seven dollar Uber which is what I decided to do. I was working a dance event that took place on a college campus. I campus is huge and covers a lot of space! People are very nice in this town, and I realized that everyone who works at this Hyatt was extremely kind, helpful, and accommodating. That is the first thing I look for in any establishment or service I am paying for/receiving. The check in and check out process is always very smooth. You can even do it online, check your email about 24 hours before you check in. The rooms are spacious, it kind of reminds me of having my own apartment. You have your bed, your office/working area, a living room/couch area and a bathroom and separate sink/mirror area. The elevators function quickly. The fitness center is nothing to write home about but it is 24 hours which makes me happy. There's also a heated, indoor pool. Breakfast is included, double check your reservation for that but I'm pretty sure it is included for everybody. It's actually pretty good for a free buffet style. You can grab coffee or you can have them make you a specialty Starbucks drink. I didn't park a car, so I'm not sure about parking there. I say this because it didn't look like it had a parking structure adjacent. Also, it's on a main road so it's hard to get dropped off, if you pull into the street right next to it you can get dropped off there. Overall, your socks are not going to be blown off here, but you will have a decent, accommodating stay, and in my experience nothing went wrong. Stayed here for IRONMAN Wisconsin due to the proximity of the venue, size of rooms, and rates! So glad I did because our room very comfortably accommodated four people, and could have accommodated five or six (two queens and a pull out couch). In between the couch and the beds, was a wall partition which gave additional privacy. Our room was also equipped with a mini fridge and microwave. Hyatt started the continental breakfast early for IRONMAN, which was a huge bonus. It was a relief knowing I didn't have to run around buying ingredients the day before, and figuring out how and where to cook and store them. Parking was fairly reasonable ($12/day with in and out privileges as long as you have your room key) and shuttle transportation around the town within a certain mile radius. Madison tip: They have a farmers market that goes around the capital on Saturday's and they have awesome, cheap produce and cheese! read more

My second trip to Madison this month and this time I stayed at the Hyatt. My favorite thing about this place was the staff; super friendly, helpful and on point. They helped me get where I was going, ("Oh that's not too far to walk at all.") and they helped me get back to the Hyatt at the end of the night (Literally. I was stuck in the pouring rain at the Kohl Center and I called the Hyatt. Tim to the rescue! He picked me up in his shuttle in a jiff and all was well. Stand-up guy, that Tim)! Now for the other deets. The rooms were OK - kind of a funky set up with a sofa to one side divided by a divider and then the bed. It wasn't horrible. The rooms are a little run down, and mine could have used a deep clean (I found a tortilla chip under the couch leg). They do have a free breakfast for everyone who stays there (bonus). A nice perk indeed. All in all, not a bad stay. Awesome staff, the rest not perfect but still solid. read more

The Hyatt Place Madison is a perfectly acceptable place to stay for one or two nights, which is what we did. If I was staying longer, I'd probably wish to stay somewhere else. + free wi-fi. I think it's really obnoxious to charge guests extra for wi-fi (it's right up there with the mandatory "resort" fee some hotels charge). We're all going to use it, so just bury it in my room rate and don't nickel and dime me + newer hotel, so it doesn't feel stale or smell weird + friendly staff + free continental breakfast + convenient location; walking distance to downtown area + two-person shower (for those of us wishing to conserve water; we didn't use it for anything else, I swear!), with a large shower head and great water pressure +/- $10/day to park +/- comfortable bed, lousy pillows +/- rate was average; not super cheap, but not expensive - poor signage for parking garage. The lot is shared with the clinic next door and you're not really sure where to go - garage had creaky elevators that don't always open completely (?) - there were a couple errant hairs in the shower that did not belong to us since it was our first time using it. Gross. -not much door clearance in the bathroom; hard to maneuver around in such a small space - A/C blew ridiculously cold air in one spot and the air never circulated As I mentioned, this hotel was just fine and certainly served its purpose: A bed to sleep in, a place to shower, and a rest stop in between running around eating and drinking. It's definitely not super luxurious, but it's certainly not a dump. It's average, but average is a-ok in my book. We get to Madison a few times a year and would most likely stay here again if it was a short visit. read more

Really, really poor service. Front desk staff was in a great mood, but that's because they were socializing with a group of guests/friends in the lounge area. I felt like *I* was the one being rude by interrupting their conversation. The crib that was supposed to be in our room was not. We desperately needed it. We called and then waited, and waited, and waited.... Sound-proofing is non-existent. Got no sleep. When I expressed my concerns to the staff at check-out, their articulate response was "oh." Nothing special about this place and don't let them trick you to stay on 2nd floor. There is a conference room on 2nd floor, the noise of people walking and talking is pure BS. Don't come here when it is warm either, the AC is motel style and super super noisy. The inclusion of breakfast is good, but nothing special And I did say something later the evening, they can't do anything with every thing is booked. Very disappointed too with expensive parking. Will blacklist this Hyatt for next Wisconsin visit. read more

Like any smart real estate investor, it's all about location. location. location. And this Hyatt Place does do Bucky some justice. It's just close enough to the Capitol for easy farmer's market or upscale dining access, and just a hop, skip and jump away from campus. The good: -Free, stable Wi-Fi -Modern, clean, updated decor -Free, basic buffet breakfast -List of freebies you can request from the front desk - from feminine products, to shower caps, to toothpaste. -There's also a list of free to borrow items - hairdryers, flat irons, baby crib, etc. -Friendly staff -Huge shower -The small cafeteria (with bottled drinks and snacks) is seemingly open at all hours. -Easy parking Some room for improvement... -Bathroom lighting (toilet and shower) is atrocious. Not only does the *one* small can light take forever to warm up, and thus light up, but it barely illuminates the shower. -Free toiletries are just mediocre, and no body lotion. Womp womp. -Workout facility (i.e. the small room with just a handful of machines) is pretty sad. Good thing the Madison campus is so beautiful and conducive to walking/running...until it's freezing. -Rate with tax was pretty steep ($250+ tax per night) but considering it was a game day weekend, that's about average, unfortunately. Overall, I'd most definitely stay here again all things considered! read more

This is my getaway spot if I want to stay relatively close to home, but still wind down from the trials of daily life. When you check into a Hyatt Place, you must understand that this line is geared toward younger, hipper, business travelers. If you're wanting some family friendly vacation, with requisite mouse ears or large foam fingers, find a Best Western. Hyatt Place's check in desk doubles as a coffee bar, a liquor bar (complete with local beers and a special-made wine just for Hyatt Place), and a small food menu. The same attendants that check you in will likely be your bartender and the person fixing your food. I love this - it means that you really get the feeling of knowing these people, and they love to share tips about local shopping, dining, and just life in general. It's quite endearing, and one of my favorite things about staying in any Hyatt Place. The rooms here are exquisite. It feels like you're staying in a high dollar, boutique hotel, but you're not paying the price. And the showers - oh, if it was as easy to steal the showers as it was the towels, I'd have robbed Hyatt Place blind. They showers are divine - glass doors, good water pressure, perfect water temperature. Just perfect. One of the best beds I've ever slept in, too. This is a traveler's dream, and the Hyatt Place Madison is by far my favorite. The front door staff is five star - all of them. read more
