There is new owners, I understand it was closed for 2 years so while we were here it was under repair. The front desk was friendly, the pool was closed the Bar was closed and no air conditioning in the lobby. Due to this it was less than other hotels. The hotel is walking distance from the beach and the historical downtown state street. Perfect location! We got clean towels everyday and they cleaned the room. They could have cleaned better, bathrooms could have used better care, it appears to be owned by a family and they are trying to update and repair the hotel. I would like to comeback in a year see how it has came along. We stayed for 4 nights Mon-Fri. Under $700. Did not hang out at the hotel, it rained all day Wednesday, if the bar or pool had been open we would have stayed at the hotel but we took a day trip to South Heaven. If the hotel was completely repaired the room rates would be much more. If your on a budget this summer and want to be close to everything this is the place. While in St Joseph take a sunset cruise on Tallship MJ, that will be a must.

The ratings here are not believable. When we turned down our beds to go to sleep, our sheets on both of the queen beds in our room were covered in other people's hair and there was sand and dirt down at the foot of the beds inside the sheets as well. It was disgusting and a big shock to find. We immediately reported this to the front desk, and the staff told us dirty sheets going unchanged between guests was an ongoing issue that management knows about but has been unable to successfully address with their housekeeping staff. (In fact, an hour before we reported our issue, we witnessed another guest at the front desk complaining about finding unexpected hair and dirt in their room as well.) We were changed to the one remaining room at the property, and front desk staff came up to inspect the sheets with us before they gave us the keys. But if there had not been a room left, or if those sheets had been dirty as well, we would have been forced to look for an available room on a busy summer Saturday night at nearly midnight in rural Michigan, or get in our car and drive two hours overnight back home. We reported the issue to Hilton corporate, requested that Hilton investigate the franchisee for knowingly breaking core Hilton sanitary practices, and requested a full refund of the cash and points we had spent for that night's reservation. This is clearly an identified and repeating issue with this property and needs to be addressed. (I fully believe reviews from more than a year ago from people who found urine stains on their toilet seat.) If you choose to stay here, you probably should check your bedsheets the moment you get access to your room. But we'll never stay here again, and I really don't suggest you do either.

The next morning my daughter asked what happened when she pulled back the covers it looked like dried up pee stains or I don't know what kind of stain to be honest. I do have pictures of it. And one of my wash clothes I used smelled like cum. Just a disgusting room. To think I checked into a dirty room and payed almost $800 for a three day stay in an unclean room just made me so mad. I will probably never stay at another Fairfield. The way they handled it at the front was even more disappointing. The head of house keeping didn't even apologize, actually...no one apologized, except for Arika the following day. Housekeeping came in and when she saw it, she said, "oops" I said that's more than an "oops" she then proceeded to start putting a sheet on top of the mattress cover. I said, I'd like the mattress cover changed as well and she walked away then the front desk called and asked for me to leave the room while they changed things. I wasn't about to leave the room because I wanted to make sure everything was changed properly before I lay down to sleep at night. Then when she was done, she threw the pillows back on and I said can you please change the pillowcases and by this point, the head of housekeeping had come down. And then she came in and started changing the bed angrily and fast and when she left, she said "I have a blessed day" that was so passive aggressive, I know what that means. No one ever once apologized even when she was in the room she didn't say I'm sorry that your room was not stripped and cleaned. I think the icing on the cake was when I had a washcloth that none of the other towels smelled weird this one smelled like semen. Unacceptable! I do have pictures of everything too.

The bed was not the most comfortable to me but my husband said he slept good. The bathroom was nice- the shower stays hot for a long time which is always a plus. It was a hot July weekend and there is no air-conditioning anywhere except for in the actual rooms. So when you walk in the doors, you're hit by that humid heavy air. The woman working the front desk was absolutely hands-down the friendliest desk clerk we have ever come across while checking into a hotel. Downside is we were given the keys to the wrong room or the keys to the right room but told the wrong number to go to for our room therefore we walked into someone else's room with that key and had to go back down and tell them that the room was already occupied only to learn that we were the room next-door to it. Breakfast was definitely a thumbs down. Room smelled like heavy Fabuloso cleaner right when you're about to eat, which means they are probably covering up something or pouring it down the drains to avoid the drain smell from coming up. The young girl working the breakfast area to keep it clean and organized looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there and could've cared less on thoroughly age was wiping down any tables in between diners. So the breakfast was not a selling point. To top that off, they only had options of about four different things to eat. I would only stay here again if I got it for a great deal of $150 a night or less. The reason we chose this place was because it was walkable to an event we were attending.

I'm not sure where to start. 1) Three high-wattage appliances plugged into a single 3-way electrical splitter (refrigerator, coffee maker, microwave). 2) Filth around the bathroom air vent. 3) The telephone on the night stand had no cord and was merely a "prop" 4) The elevator wouldn't go to the 4th floor. Our room was on the 4th floor. Think about that. 5) They ration toilet paper apparently. I think you get the idea. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless it's literally your only option, and maybe not even then. This was without question the worst value in a hotel room that I've ever experienced. They charge well over $250/night, when in fact this was not worth $50/night.
