For starters I had my son's 8th bday pool party here. I would definitely do it again. 1 did have a few grievances but Mr. Christian Khayat and his staff went above and beyond to rectify the situation. They were all accommodating. Once the kiddos were down the adults had the pleasure of hanging out at Twyla's the in house bar. Which is where we met his amazing Bartender (Steph), (Chris) the server and (Jorge) the bar back. All of them were great as well as the drinks. We even felt a little chilly in the pool area and the housekeeping guy (Oscar) turned up the pool temp and the area. My family is already looking forward to returning once the renovations are done. Can't wait to see the upgrades. Mr. Khayat also bought my son a few pizzas and chicken from his restaurant (Fatmans) which my Autistic son loved so much we had to stop there and get a few before we went back home to Milwaukee. Nice, budget hotel very close to Gurnee Mills, Great America. Room was ready by 3 pm. Got upgraded to a suite: living room with pull-out couch and large BR with king size bed. Stayed one night so didn't have much time to use the outside the room facilities, but the room itself was exactly what we needed. There is plenty of parking all around the facility (it is quite large in terms of area, not so much in terms of floors). Each of the entrances are controlled by key card, and it makes sense to move your car to the entrance/exit closest to your room, once you check in. The bathroom had one sink with plenty of counterspace, tub/shower combo. They do expect more than 2 people staying in the suite, so provided 4 towels. Water pressure was barely adequate and temperature was good, but easy to control. Dove products (soaps, lotions) were provided, which I hadn't realized was a thing. The temperature was a bit harder to control. Each room had its own floor climate control unit that could be used to turn on/off, but there was also a wall thermostat that seemed to be on. We just used the floor unit and the rooms got quite cooler, even with the hot outside temperature. Everything was worn, and could use a facelift...but the location is really good, and the charged price is commiserate with the value given. It wasn't very crowded (probably because of the newer hotels closer to the Mills)...so probably a good choice if needing a quick place to turn down without much notice. read more

This was a nice place to stay. I stayed for 4 nights. All the front staff were friendly and accommodating. There's drinks and snacks aplenty in the hotel available 24/7. There's a huge indoor pool and towels available. My shower was awesome; great water pressure. The beds were a little unsettling with the bottom falling out of one of them. My room had a frig,microwave, and tv in it. I would stay here again. read more

WARNING...... do not stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Gurnee!! They are not welcoming or friendly at all. The rooms are not clean, toilet seat was dirty and we had to clean it with sanitizing wipes. They had no soap at all and when we asked we were told that they have not received their shipment. Breakfast.... even though they have it, it's an additional fee, unlike every other Holiday Inn Express that we have stayed at. This fee was not disclosed anywhere when making our reservation. We have friends staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Libertyville and they are having the opposite experience. Welcoming staff, clean rooms, all toiletries and breakfast included. read more

Two stars purely because the service was sound. The cleaning crew were really kind and the front desk folks were accommodating of our requests for an early check in and late check out, which we really appreciated. However, the actual room itself was... a bit brutal. Allow me to explain. We basically checked in early and set down our stuff before heading out to spend time with the fam. When we returned later and unpacked, we noticed a few things that were quite disappointing. For starters, our fridge had been unplugged, and the bottom was completely full of water. Standing water in the fridge. And it was warm, since, you know, it was unplugged. We found this quite nasty, and it ended up taking a long time for anything to get cold. We ended up just grabbing ice from the machines down the hall and sticking drinks in our sink. Not the best, but it is fine enough. Also, the fridge is almost comically small, and for some reason was just sitting on the floor. It looked like it was just sort of tossed in as an after thought. We also visited in August, and as it turned out... our AC unit did not work. It was soooooo hot, we could barely even sleep. We thought about opening the fridge and just moving it to the foot of the bed. By the time that we noticed this it was already almost 11pm, and we didn't know if it would be worth it to ask for a room change. It turns out that we definitely should have asked, because it got even worse in the morning. We were awakened at 9am because there was clearly maintenance work going on somewhere very nearby. Sawing wood, hammering nails, just a ton of noise. Thankfully we could barely sleep anyway, since it felt like our room was about 85 degrees. So we just got up early, hit the showers, did our morning meetings before getting out as quickly as we could. We also had some odd occurrence where our toilet would just emit this really loud and annoying sound that was something between a BUZZ and a HUM. It would stop when you flush it, but still, quite strange. Overall I expect a little bit more for the price of this place. It wasn't dirty, we didn't have any bugs or anything to deal with. But it wasn't comfortable at all, and perhaps getting in earlier and requesting a different room would have solved this. But I can only review based on what I experienced. And our experience felt like we were put in a room that wasn't ready to be occupied. Which is too bad. It isn't like we would be in a position to really come back all that often, but I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're in the area. You can do a lot better for roughly the same price or less. read more

The hotel was nice, clean and has an excellent location. However, our room was right off of the first floor exit doors and we heard slamming (VERY LOUD) our entire stay at all hours of the morning and night. Also, the bathtub drain was clogged so water was backing up, but they fixed it very quickly after we asked. We also noticed a bit of mold it looks like they are painting over. No fridge in the room or microwave, but they offered to use one in the lobby??? Other than that the hotel is very nice, pool and hot tub are great. Awesome location and staff was very nice. Overall a good stay and we'd come back if the above issues were corrected. read more

Period of my stay - October 14 - October 19, 2021 I had no maid service during the length of my stay. I had to take the 2 trash containers out and set them out in from of my door in order for them to be emptied. Better working TV's mine kept freezing up on me. They need better towels, the ones I had kept shedding and leaving lint all over my body and hair. The water was out for 2 days during my stay, I would have the hotel management make an alternate plan for those guests that would be without water for 2 days. They advertise a full service restaurant, this is not true, it is only open Thur-Sat for breakfast only. One more thing, they had no room service. read more

My family and I traveled here for Six Flags and we booked this room through Priceline. We booked for 2 nights. First upon arriving, the lobby and employees were pleasant. Entering our room, wasn't. The smell was odd. Bedding smelled weird too. So we just sprayed and slept with our own blankets. The beds we were given were 2 double beds! We were so crammed and uncomfortable. We all will have a chiropractic appt next week. The beds were awful. The workout room is extremely small and lacks any air flow... the equipment is very outdated. Housekeeping they remake your bed and restock towels. Our experience here wasnt the worst ever but definitely Holiday Inn has a lot of improving to do. read more

I stayed here for two weeks Monday through Thursday booked by my corporate job. Service could've been better there's no room service unfortunately with COVID-19. Very grateful for having the gym and the pool open. They recently changed their hours instead of opening at 6 AM they open those amenities at 8 AM. Which was an issue for me by the second week I stayed there. Besides there I booked my parents a room and when they got there they got charged $40 on top of our reservation which I still have no idea what that was about. read more

Bed bugs and no action nor substantial response by the Manager, Rory Flot. Even without being bitten by bed bugs, the overall cleanliness is not good. I question their claims and measures they say they are taking regarding COVID - 19. I stayed 3 nights. No one cleans rooms during stay. I had to take the trash can from the room and leave it in the hallway so that someone can empty it. The trash can was emptied and left in the hallway for me to bring back into the room. The property was terrible. First off .... The room Did NOT look like the pictures displayed on the website. I also took my kids & wife there as a trip to Gurnee IL. As my kids had to witness call girls coming in /out & hear inappropriate behavior as well as things they shouldn't all night !!!! There weren't enough blankets in the room and I even had to sign a no party contract being that I was there with my wife and kids. We were able to check in early when we arrived at 1030a and great front desk staff. Perfect and polite. After a long day of visiting and sightseeing we went into the bar... I was never able to keep my hotel reservation for 2/7/20-2/9/20 due to a severe winter storm in Vermont. All flights were cancelled and I missed my grandfather's funeral in Illinois. My reservation was booked through Hotels.com. Multiple customer service representatives attempted to contact the hotel manager, Jim Anderson, at Holiday Inn. However, Jim refuses to return their calls. I also called the hotel several times and requested to speak with Jim but he would only communicate with me via the hotel operator. He told me that it was not his responsibility to approve the refund. He stated that it was Hotel.com's responsibility. However, the third-party website could not issue the refund without first speaking with the hotel manager. Due to Jim Anderson's refusal to cooperate with Hotels.com, I will not be able to receive a refund for a hotel reservation that I could not keep due to the winter storm in Vermont that led to my flight cancellation which caused me to miss my grandfather's funeral. I travel for a living and after receiving horrible treatment from Jim Anderson, I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again. read more

My husband and I stayed here for Valentine's day/night for an event for 95 wiil rock. Everything in that hotel was nice. The bathroom was a bit small but it was still really nice. The only problem we had was that we could hear people through the walls. I'm sure it was only loud because everyone had been drinking from the event so it didn't bother us too much. But that's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Very nice, clean and great staff. read more

Spent 2 nights here booked thru Expedia was a little skeptical from the mixed reviews but gave it shot since it was so close to six flags. Upon arrival Kenny was working the front desk he was prompt, professional and had a sense of humor. He also got us the rooms we needed to accommodate our party . We spent the night in the lobby playing cards and suddenly I had my parents that decided to show up last minute and all of sudden was in need for an additional room. Kenny made it happen with a great last minute rate. The rooms were clean a little outdated but it was good enough, mattress was comfortable and AC was perfect. We took a dip in the swimming poor and sat in the hot tub which was also clean. We also decided to try out the food which was a great decision they have the best burger around hands down and their fries are to die for. Convenient to the Interstate, restaurants, six flags, etc. Unfortunately during quiet times with fewer travelers their restaurant gets pretty sparse for breakfast and dinner. Most annoying is I stay here nearly weekly. I am a Spire level IHG member. Even though it is the same desk clerk he never remembers me. He also never upgrades me telling me they are sold out or don't have any upgrade rooms which is a bold faced lie. Now he doesn't even bother saying anything. I see other complaints about not upgrading premium members. So, what's up with that? They comments about bed bugs by several other people makes me uncomfortable. I haven't had that issue and sure hope I don't. read more

I've stayed here on two separate occasions. Great restaurant, the management let us have an all day business meeting and class without making us feel unwelcome in the breakfast area. The rooms are clean and being an IHG gold i got a fridge and microwave. IHG are a little pricey, but this was the best location for several of the business things that I had to do. read more

If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay the night this hotel has great comfortable rooms. If you are looking for an evening hanging at the bar with friends and having a meal it is not where you should go. It seems like they are trying to create an atmosphere to hang out in, but they don't do a very good job at providing the services. Other places like indigo do a much better job at providing bar service lounging areas games and a social atmosphere. We have stayed here half a dozen times or so and the bar always runs out of some standard items and service is slow. Bottom line, great place to get a great nights sleep and it is located conveniently close to the mall. read more

I can't even begin to say how disappointing my stay here was. The front desk was so slow, and I had to make multiple trips there to get my reservation fixed, keys reactivated, etc. No one seemed to have a clue as to there job!!! Then the elevator smelled of vomit. The room was mediocre, but the air conditioner must have been leaking, because the carpet was soaked. We left the hotel in the early morning and got back to our room at 4:00, only to find that housekeeping was just getting to our room. We had a spider crawl over our pillow, and a bug in the bathroom. Looks nice until you check the mattress for BEDBUGS because you will find them. If you're like me, you'll freak out and leave immediately (even though we checked in at 2am after a wedding), spend an hour trying to find a hotel closeby thats not booked, wait over an hour for a $20 taxi ride that will "be there in 10 mins", arrive at the new hotel around 330am, spend another $20 on change for their self service laundrymat and the next 5 hours naked drying, washing then drying every article of clothing that entered the room to take every precaution in avoiding having any of them bedbugs in anything I own because I am not trying to have a BedBugInn at my home. read more

I planned a surprise 50th birthday for my mother during the pandemic which was extremely stressful but Rose was extremely helpful. I later came to found out she was no longer working there and Rodger took over the event there were some mix ups on what room I was in and my DJ almost left because the front desk had no communication on what room the event was in. It happens and I can't imagine taking a position over so quickly! Aldo our bartender was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! He was extremely attentive to the guests, he let me pick what alcohol and beverages I wanted at the bar before the party based off of knowing my families preferences and made the most DELICIOUS cocktails. We had the pasta and slider bar and the food was absolutely delicious. My family also booked around 7 rooms and they were all super clean and the beds were comfortable and the kids were able to swim! Dragan the bartender was horrible. First, we approached the bar and he stared at my ID for what felt like forever and then proceeded to ask me how old I was and that I looked too young to be 30. I asked for a Moscow mule and he snapped "we don't make those," I pointed out it was on the menu. He said "well, we are out of ginger beer so pick something else." My friend ordered a lemon drop and he said it would take "too long" to make, then asked if my 4 friends and I were paying together because "that would be easier." We went to a booth away from the bar and were respectfully enjoying our night. All of a sudden, the lights were shut off on us, without warning. We saw him cleaning up and figured we'd wait to see what happened. He then shouts from the bar which is probably 30 feet from our booth "bars closed!" And runs out. The following morning I wanted coffee creamer and the front desk lady said I would have to pay $10 for the continental breakfast. Finally some nice gentleman gave me some and let me go. I will never be back to this holiday inn location and am in shock that management of this corporation would let this happen. read more

We were here for a weekend and were impressed by the size of this hotel. It is quite big with a lounge/bar as well as a breakfast/meal room, pool, jacuzzi and vending machines on each floor. It also has a small candy/junk food corner store by check in. The rooms were quite big and we were able to get rooms that were connected, making our trip much easier. The staff was very accommodating to any and all demands we had. Overall I was thoroughly impressed with this location. read more

We booked an overnight stay at the Holiday Inn this past weekend. That way, we were able to go to Six Flags for two days. Our expectations were not met, and staff were not courteous at all. We arrived at 9am to retrieve our two day passes to the park. For some reason they were not ready and we were not taken to the park until 11am. Nearly two hours waiting for tickets and our shuttle was a bit much for my liking. The room was very nice and clean, so we had no complaints there. The television however appeared to be broken as the color kept going in and out and there was a bright white line across the screen while the television was on. The following morning, I woke up to see a piece of paper half-way shoved under our door. It was our express check-out paper work. Upon looking at it, the wrong credit card was charged. I went downstairs to inquire about the matter. Tim, the overnight staff was rather ignorant of his job duties and clearly did not want to deal with hotel guests. He proceeded to tell me that the original card ran was declined and he attempted to place the cost of the room on the second charge card, which was declined. He then told me "What are we going to do about this?" First off, the first card ran DID go through and the amount of the room was already deducted from the account. The second card was placed on file for incidentials only. I was asked if I wanted the first card ran again and I said no, because it wasn't my card and that the cardholder should be the one to authorize that. I let Tim know that I would be back within a few minutes. When myself and the cardholder returned, Tim had left for the day. We spoke to another staff person who assured us that the proper card was ran and that there were no issues. She said that Tim does in fact print up the express check-out paperwork overnight, and he must have entered it incorrectly. She did apologize and comped us breakfast. This may seem bad to say, but I was glad to not pay for breakfast; it was awful. Bacon was harder than the dining room tables, as were the French toast. Even though the hotel did attempt to make up for the issue we experienced, if staff were trained in their duties to begin with, this wouldn't have happened. Tim could have been a lot nicer about the matter. I couldn't even imagine what he would tell a guest whose card may have actually declined! This one experience pretty much ruined my time, because I had to wait until Monday to make sure that my credit card wasn't charged in addition to my friend's card. Needless to say, we will stay at another hotel the next time we visit Six Flags. read more
