Since I was heading to Gurnee Mills, I thought I would stay at a nearby Hilton hotel. This great budget hotel, with ample parking, is very close to nearby restaurants, within 10 minutes from Gurnee Mills, and very close to the I-94. The lobby is very contemporary with working stations and seating areas. The reception desk is to the left as you walk in. The agent, was very friendly and helpful regarding directions to Gurnee Mills. She also went over the amenities of the the hotel. The room, pre-selected prior to arrival, is well layed out. The room has a great sitting/working area. For convenience, there is a compact refrigerator and a microwave in the room. The hotel amenities include a fitness center, laundry room and an outside pool which is closed for the season. Of course, there is the complimentary breakfast, is served to the right of the main entrance. Overall, a great hotel stay at with friendly staff. read more

Definitely outdated, a bit run down, and just not a very high-quality stay. The rooms are rooms, plain and simple. No special amenities, features, or even much in the way of conveniences. Ceiling tiles in hallways are broken or missing. There are extra charging ports and outlets on the end table near the beds. This would be helpful, except the outlets are so used, beaten and loose that my chargers and medical device wouldn't even stay plugged in. I had to go out and buy an extension cord just to finally be able to use my devices by the bed. Smaller room issues: The shower had hair in it when my family first arrived. The TV channel selection is mid with older style televisions. The air conditioner makes loud and odd sounds all night long. Crumbs and other debris were on the floor. Service is mostly okay. Counter people are usually nice enough, but service to the rooms leaves a lot to be desired. They only make beds, empty trash, replace towels/washcloths, and do any cleaning every other day. When people regularly use this hotel to go to Six Flags Great America, expecting everyone to use linens multiple days seems a little nasty. This especially rings true for the washcloths used to wash our bodies with. We had garbage and dirty towels piled up since we're on vacation and are eating out and shopping regularly. Eww. The Hampton Inn does serve free breakfast in the mornings. This is also generally just okay. You can make your own waffles, which my children do enjoy. There are also eggs, meat, and potatoes that you can grab, along with other assorted breakfast items (bagels, toast, oatmeal, etc...). The cooked items can vary from day to day on how well they taste or even look. I appreciate a free breakfast, it is available for 4 hours, and I mostly did enjoy the available items. There is a laundry room (also outdated), tiny fitness closet (technically a room), and a little pool. Nothing around here really stands out other than it's convenient proximity to Six Flags Great America and Gurnee Mills. This is our second time staying here, and I'm not sure I'll be booking it for my next family vacation. read more

Absolute Dump! I have stayed here on and off for years as I have business in the area. I had stopped staying here due to the condition of the hotel but was told it has new ownership so I went back. Big mistake. First, I was put in a room with a small barking dog next door. So I asked to be moved, told no, threatened to leave and was finally accommodated by the uninterested rude woman at the desk. The room I was put in was on the 5th floor that was either under construction to repair some kind of severe water damage. The place smelled like mold. The TVs are small and outdated. There is mold in the showers and the bathroom floor was dirty. The staff were all semi rude and disinterested. When I asked for a bottle of water (a standard perk for silver Hilton members) I was told that the new ownership did not honor the water or snack policy because it cost too much. I was hoping the new ownership would improve the place but it is obvious that he is too cheap to make any improvements. This old, outdated hotel will continue to exist on Great Lakes graduations and Great America summers but I will be at the one in Waukegan. It is a much better, cleaner and friendlier representation of the Hilton brand. read more

I wanted to cancel my reservation because I found out after booking my stay that they were doing renovations at the this hotel this heathen answers the phone and I said: "hello I have a reservation booked from (one date to the next in June) but found out via the reviews that there is construction work being done here, can you please confirm, she confirmed and said: yes there are renovations being done" I then told her I wanted to cancel she turns around and says for what ?! it's not like it's being done in your room ?????!!!! bitch what ?? who wants to stay at a hotel with a bunch of noise and construction being done. Before she can get her country ass back on the phone I was able to go online and cancel it myself I wouldn't stay here just based off her attitude she definitely does not need to be working any parts of customer service... Second stay here, love this place but have never needed anything. Tonight, the pizza gave me raging heartburn and I'm miserable. I contacted Willow, thinking it was a robot but nope! She had security check the closed shop for heartburn meds and he charged my room and hand delivered them at 1am. So blessed that they helped me out! This review is a mixed bag. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights to attend my son's recent boot camp graduation. The front desk manager, Lucas, was very pleasant and always greeted us. In fact, all the front desk staff were very nice and accommodated all my requests. The breakfast area had a good variety of items, although the melons were always overripe and inedible. There is a Golden Corral right behind the hotel, which was a great dinner option for large families. They serve cook to order steaks for dinner and my entire family remarked that the steaks were excellent. We had booked 3 rooms and my mother stayed in one of those rooms. She had a graduation card with $200 cash inside the card and she placed it in a zippered pocket on her suitcase and stowed it away. She ran into housekeeping down the hall and told her she didn't need to clean the room; just bring in some fresh towels at her convenience. When we came back from sightseeing that evening, my mom was preparing her outfit to wear the next day for graduation and when she went to retrieve the graduation card and envelope out of her suitcase, it was gone. I asked Lucas to prepare a theft report and to have the manager contact me. I have never heard from the manager and neither my mom or I were compensated in any way. read more

2 stars because: 1-Clean room, working bathroom and working AC. 1- very friendly staff Downside and why 3 stars removed: - No housekeeping. We came in from our of town for a weekend with family and we are 2 adults and 2 kids (10yo and 1.5yo). Try having a toddler in a room for 3 nights with no housekeeping. We had to be in a room with ground up Cheerios in the carpet and we couldn't get it cleaned up ourselves even. I reviewed the hotel description carefully before booking to make sure it wasn't available due to covid. - breakfast. Again, description on booking site stated breakfast. However, Not breakfast. it's cereal and I get it with covid it is different but don't tell me you have coffee until 11:30pm but it's out at 8:30am and you don't refresh the coffee at all. We went out and walked by the coffee bar 3 times before noon and every time the coffees were still out and only coffee is decaf and hot water. read more

I am a big fan of Hampton Inn's in general. This one is exactly why I like the whole chain. Customer service is amazing. All of the staff were genuinely friendly, nice, and helpful. Hampton Inn's are my type of hotel. They are reasonably priced and include everything you need. Clean rooms, comfortable beds with a couple different pillows, free wifi, good staff, free hot continental breakfast, and usually they have pools! This one is no exception. The pool is outdoors, and I prefer indoor pools in cold climates but that's fine. We asked for a crib, and they let us know they have pack'n'plays. That's fine with me. They called us to tell us their pack n play was broken, so they were going out to the store to buy a new one. That is remarkable customer service! I am very impressed. One thing to note, is that the elevator is crazy slow. I would absolutely recommend this hotel! read more

Uhhh Hilton? Hampton inn? More like a warmed over 30 yr old inn. Bathrooms are ridiculously small. They tried to up date the rooms with old style second hand furnishings it didn't work. The view is of a Super 8 motel and roller coaster from 6 flags If you want close to 6 Flags this is for you. This was a very nice hotel with an excellent location. I loved that it was close enough to get to the mall, lots of great food places, and grocery stores-but not to close to any major highways where you cannot get any rest. The place seemed to be full-but was run efficiently and I personally loved that I could be in my room and not hear what's happening in the hallway or next door. Breakfast was decent-every morning their were new food items to try. I would definitely recommend staying here if looking for a comfortable, relaxing place to stay! read more

Super *FRIENDLY* hotel! I stayed here once during one of the coldest winters in Chicagoland last winter (Jan-Feb 2013), and only stayed here once for a 3-night stay. I ended up switching to a different Hampton Inn, as it was closer to my destination, newer, and - I believe - 100% smoke-free. One of the Hampton Inns in this area is not (please correct me if I'm remembering wrong), so be sure to ask if this may be a concern for you. Since the initial heater in the room wasn't working properly / warm enough, they provided me with a space heater in my room - including one of the staff at the registration desk giving up hers, wow! Now *THAT* is customer service. Maintenance then replaced the one in my room the next day - and was very friendly, as well. Bed: - Mattress was not super comfy - Mattress covers fit the bed (unlike with Marriott) Bathroom: - Towels smell good (not that weird burnt smell, like with Marriott) Kitchenette: - Microwave included - Water (I think) available upon request (perhaps based on status) Nightlight - I think these may be provided in all the rooms (which I secretly liked); don't judge! :-) read more

Nicer than I was expecting. After seeing some of the comments and the location, I thought it would be a little more beat up due to all of the families and kids that went there while going to the amusement park. Went there during the off season for work and the hotel was fine, quick check in, basic free Hampton breakfast, cookies at night, etc. Room was nice and quiet, no refrigerator, but you could hear the person next door talking loudly on the phone, so not sure if just my room or what. The pub in front of the hotel was pretty good and you could walk to it, and there are other options right nearby (McDonalds, mall down the road, etc. depending on what you're looking for). Price seemed pretty affordable, would stay here again. read more

Welcome to the Hampton Inn Gurnee- the home of the world's slowest elevator! And if that's not remarkable enough, they also have smoking rooms! Beware of their website-- even when you specifically select a non smoking room, you might luck out and land one of those ashtray-scented babies. We thought we could power thru the night and sleep in our smoking pad, just to wake up around midnight coughing like an old lady with emphysema. Luckily we managed to open the window, but had woke up in the morning with a pigeon on top of my head (I made up that last part of course). The next day we were finally set up in a crusty-musty non-smoking room, which felt like a wonderful upgrade from last night's smoky crib. I'm most thankful that a hotel finally showed the mrs that we don't need to spend $200+ per night to have a nice stay. 2 USB charging ports and a couple extra outlets between the beds were an instant hit! Beyond that, there were outlets in just about every electrical device including 2 in the front of our microwave?!? My AT&T LTE connection was much faster than the complimentary Wi-Fi offered here, but it didn't matter much since we didn't bring the ROKU. Some other niceties included the 32" Panasonic Viera, full-length body mirror, prompt maintenance response, multi-function shower head and "Reservoir Dogs" on Showtime HD tonight. Now, it's time to see if Mr. Orange can keep his mouth shut and stay undercover this time around...followed by day 2 at Great America!! read more

Meh! Good looking hotel. Front staff pretty nice, I think I got stuck with a newbie tho. She struggled to check me in, what could have been a 5 minute interaction turned out to be 15-20. No big deal. Pool is nice. Room is nice. Has a funny balcony and doors to which are screwed shut and cannot be opened. Everything is nice, why the 3 stars?? Well that's just it....it's nice. IT IS NOT $180 NICE!!!!!! At this rate I'd expect much more, a bigger breakfast, funky fun toiletries, nicer features, bigger rooms. I know I'm in Chicago, but I'm well north of the city. Sure it's by six flags but there's plenty of other hotels. *quick post sleep review: room is two full beds. A I'll bed with 2 people is not easy. I had to switch beds in the middle of the night. They are comfy tho. Also the eggs for the breakfast are a horrible science experiment gone wrong. I've had bad fake eggs before but these win. My second stay here was on August 21&22 the place was extremely clean!. Hallways smelled clean and rooms were very clean too, hats off to the manager I observed him walking around the hotel inside and out on several occasions making certain the grounds were clean and operations were running properly ( great to see such commitment to his job and not just sitting in an office somewhere!) GREAT JOB MANAGER!!!. The free breakfast in the morning was excellent and even though the hotel was very busy and the lobby was full of guest eating the staff did an excellent job keeping all the items on the buffet stocked up, fresh and hot! I've never been to a hotel where the staff was this friendly. All smiles, quick moving and solution oriented. Our room wasn't anything special but still very clean and nice. But the beds we're shockingly comfortable. If I could, I would carry out the bed on my back and take it home with me. I think the breakfast buffet could use some more healthy and fresh options but I can't really complain about something that's free. Free wifi, breakfast, parking and all the amenities you can need (toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, shaving cream, razor, etc...). What more can you ask for? read more

This hotel is convieniently located near Six Flags Great America. Also, if you just need to rest while traveling, it is a minute off of I94. The rooms are welll kept, the staff is friendly and helpful. There is no fitness center or facilities on the premises but they will give you a pass to the local center just down the street. There is a very good complimentary breakfast too. Can also grab a "breakfast on the run" if you are in a hurry. The beds, like all other Hamptons I've been in, are fantastic. It wasn't a bad price- $80 for a queen-sized bedroom. It is apparent that the building itself is aging- I wouldn't have trusted the building from the OUTSIDE- inside is acceptable. The owners have done what they can to keep up to the other hotels in the Hilton chain. This hotel is located in a central location, but the mall, Walmart, Target, and other popular shopping locations are over the interstate on the other side of town. The bathroom is smaller than most, but I cannot say for sure if it is just OUR room, or the arrangement is throughout all the rooms. The room itself was decent- an older-looking couch sitting comfortably in front of a coffee table, desk, mini fridge, and microwave in-room. The towels are curled up in a quaint compartmental cabinet above the toilet. Like all Hamptons I've been to, necessities are organized in a homely and welcoming manner. I did get a bit of an off feeling from the front desk, but that might have just been the gentleman himself. My party was short a toothbrush and a razor, and the desk offered disposable replacements for the morning. The cleaning staff was friendly- we'd forgotten to put a "sleeping" tag outside, and the staff knocked politely several times before I opened it. It was 8:30AM which struck me as a peculiarly early cleaning time, so I asked if she could come back in a few hours and she smiled and apologized- very friendly. Be sure you remember that tag if you're a "late" sleeper! Continental breakfast was yummy as always. It wasn't super fantastic- but we weren't at a Marriott after all! Yeah, so, driving from Kenosha to Aurora...starting at 2:45AM, after having been up since the previous 5AM? I got this far...and gave up. At that point, I was falling asleep at the wheel, so I'd have slept on about anything at that point. However, this is just like every other Hampton. Super comfy beds, friendly staff, everything I expect from Hampton. Unfortunately...no bathroom ventilation. On the list. I missed the breakfast...since I was fast asleep...but I'm sure it was nice too. The front desk clerk who checked me in offered me late checkout, given the hour, but I turned it down. The rate was cheap too - not that I think there's a lot of Six Flags guests staying here on a 20 degree February day. The parking lot did seem pretty full though, I had a momentary worry that maybe the place was full, which would have *crushed* me. I doubt I'll have to make that drive at that time again any time soon, but it's nice to have this option. read more

The GSA asked us if we would like to switch, my boyfriend said sure a king bed if you have it. The gave us a beautiful king room, with a sitting area. It was a nice surprise, and bonus it was non smoking. There is also free wi-fi. The pool is bean shaped and outdoor so we did not partake in it. Breakfast was served in the lobby. They had cereal, danishes, toast, biscuits, muffins, and the special was a bagel with egg cheese and bacon. It was a good way to start the day off, and to cut down on our spending at Six flags. I'm surprised by some of the reviews that rate this hotel so highly. There are better alternatives at Gurnee than what this place offers. As noted by another reviewer, the elevators are terribly slow. I have no idea why, but they must be among the slowest in existence. There must be something that can be done to address them. The sink/vanity area in the rooms is the tiniest little area imaginable. Someone posted a picture of it, so you can see what it looks like. You can't get a makeup case on the counter - that is how small it is. I am a Hilton Diamond member and was not offered a drink when I checked in. I had to ask for it. My room on the 5th floor had a sliding door that would not open. Apparently locked for my safety. I guess they assume I can't control myself from wanting to jump from the 5th floor. I don't much care for being treated like a child, and not being able to get some fresh air. The place seems to have been poorly designed and comes across that way and like it is old. The hallways by the elevators on the upper floors is very tight and narrow, and uncomfortable feeling. read more

I had a pretty enjoyable stay at this Hampton Inn. Our room was $59/night for the Christmas holiday. Our room was average size, with two comfortable queen-size beds, up on the 5th (top) floor with a view of surrounding buildings towards the direction of Golden Corral and Key Lime Cove. It is also located in a town with a large selection of shopping and dining. Most of our service was good. After deciding to stay another night, we told the front desk of our decision, yet throughout the day we still got employees coming to our room wondering why we were not checked out. That was a tad irritating, but other than that, the employees were nice and helpful, including our housekeeper, and the people working in the lobby. I think the best thing about this hotel is that you get a lot for your money. The room may not have been spectacular, but we spent most of our time out anyway. They serve continental breakfast daily from 6AM to 10AM, and if you're in too much of a hurry to sit down and eat, they pack bags of some breakfast items for you to grab on your way out (muffin, apple, water bottle, mints, granola bar). The breakfast was great, with an array of items (though I wish they had more variance in types of cereal). They also have complimentary tea, coffee, and hot chocolate in the lobby around the clock, and one night they even had a variety of fresh-baked cookies that you could grab as well. The front desk even provides free water bottles, and there are drinking fountains that you can refill them with rather than paying $2 at the vending machine for a new one. The lobby is a nice seating area; you could go down there and relax in front of the TV, read a book in peace, or browse the internet using the free WiFi. If I could give zero stars I would. All the staff are jerks and liars. They say they won't do something but then go ahead and do it behind your back anyway and sneak in the charge on ya that's not included on any receipt I recieved, nor did I ever agree to it or sign for it. I received a hidden fee of $150 as a cleaning fee in addition to my $100/night charge for the room. I left that room cleaner than how I found it. How about that dirty sock I found that was leftover from whoever was in the room before me? Definitely not my sock. How clean are these rooms really? And then I get charged an additional $150, for what? Disputed the charge with the hotel and all they did was talk outta their buttholes just like how they were the whole time when I was staying there. I will never be staying at any Hilton properties ever again and will be telling all my family and friends not to ever again as well. Hope y'all reading this don't either. I am a Hilton Honor member and always stay at Hilton hotels when traveling. This Hampton is nice and renovated. Love the USB ports in the room for charging. The hotel is nice. The elevators are old and the one on the right sounds like its going to have an issue someone soon. The wifi is extremely slow. The only other thing is what a waste to have an outdoor pool. Any hotel with an outdoor pool in the Midwest is foolish. No one uses it either every time I've stayed here. read more

This hotel has been in this location for a while and looks a little lackluster on the outside. However, our room was extremely clean, the beds especially. Everything was very clean and fresh, the bathrooms, the furniture, the pillows etc. The check in was easy and the breakfast was very good. If in Gurnee again we'll stay here! read more

Not my first pick by a long shot, I'm a Hilton Diamond member and this place is not up to par! Old, dingy and lacking...Rooms are as damp and sticky as can be, especially in the summer time! My shoes even stuck to the carpet YUCK! Something had 'sprayed' against the headboard of my double bed (don't want to even think about what that was). There are locks on all balcony doors so forget about getting some fresh air. I've stayed at Super 8's that are nicer. read more

Hotel was nice and convenient for my business trip. Breakfast was good and the grab bags at the front counter containing a water, fruit, fruit bars, etc are a nice touch when you don't have time to eat at the buffet (or you want a snack later) Evening fresh baked cookies are a nice touch too. Overall we were satisfied with our stay with one exception. The gym is horrid. The equipment is about the cheapest, poorly put together crap I have ever had the displeasure of using in a Hotel. In all honest it was dangerous in that pieces were loose, falling off the elliptical and one could easily turn an ankle. I just called and asked to speak to the manager the person on the other line asked why? I told her I wanted to book 6 rooms and wanted to see what rate the manager could get me. I explained that I booked 6 rooms in Joliet 2 weeks ago and it worked out well I was hoping they could do the same. She went on to ask a lot of questions and I went on to ask to speak with the manager 2 or 3 more times but she never put me through. After a long phone conversation and all her questions she said they didn't have the rooms I needed. It was a total waste of my time but I also find it hard to believe. I really felt she just didn't want my business. This is not the way to treat someone wanting to book 6 rooms in your hotel. read more

I stayed in this hotel for one night. Saturday night. There was a noise complaint and my room was blamed. We weren't given any reason and were approached completely rude by the night shift manager. On the first occurrence. We were then threatened by this manager off of the first occurrence. Again. We were not even told what noise we were causing. Just that there was a complaint.
