The building's older, sure, but the room's holding it together like a veteran of many family road trips. Hardwood floors (thank you, no mystery carpet stains), a pullout sofa for dramatic lounging, and beds so comfy they could qualify as emotional support furniture. There's an indoor pool and fitness center, which we nobly ignored bc waffles took priority. And speaking of waffles... breakfast was an AYCE carb carnival: cheese omelets, sausage patties, country potatoes, and DIY waffles that could make you question why you don'town a waffle maker at home (definitely getting one). Add in the cereal, yogurt, fruit, and juice fountain, and you've basically got a brunch buffet w no judgment!! Bonus points for the lobby hydration station: iced water and coffee/tea on tap like a fancy gas station. After every outing, that cold water hit harder than therapy. Six Flags is half a mile away, it's so close you could just walk there!! The staff were chill, friendly, and clearly used to herding families in town for boot camp graduations. Breakfast buffet was good!! Cheesy eggs, potatoes, bacon ,sausage, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, waffles, juices, milk, coffee.... Great fuel before heading to the airport!! Minor gripe: *The the shampoo/body wash bottles were so tiny you'd think they were made for Barbie's dream hotel. We ended up buying bigger, realistic human sized bottles. *Towels were thin and smaller than avg size . Overall, an older but solid stay... cozy, caffeinated, and just the right mix of comfy sleep and healthy hydration. read more

I wouldn't even check in once I arrived. It felt unclean. A pool was advertised, but there was an old sign taped to the front desk saying "Out of Service". People hanging around the area (several hotels in the area) felt like I was at a homeless shelter. I wanted a quiet retreat but instead went back home where I know it's clean and am not afraid to go out at night. I should have read the reviews first! read more

The hotel is okay physically. It was clean. The entire facility has that old attic smell but it was not troubling. What is troubling is that the walls are so thin that I actually thought someone was in the room a few times an it was next door neighbor. Also this neighbor microwaved chicken that made the entire wing smell for hours -is there no insolation in these walls? I chose to come here because they accept dogs. Is there no understanding the nature of dogs? I had dental surgery - informed them of this and the male person who was at the front desk in the morning who was not friendly did not say good morning or any other acknowledgement was informed of same. 1/2 into the surgery he was complaining that the dog was barking. There is a dog next door and all over the facility did he honestly think that the dog would not bark. I was gone a total of 1 hour! Please educate yourself on animals and not just collect the pet fee. I know that not everyone loves animals. But if you come to work and know that they will be there perhaps some education is in order. read more

Mold in the bathroom. Drywall and paint pealing and chipping... Not just a little. The coffee pot is broken and the hair dryer only works on low. I did not have the breakfast but I did get some juice. The apple juice was really good but the orange was just water. I'll be complaining to management and not staying here again. I've never been so upset that I felt i should sign up for yelp to post about our experience, but here we are. The night staff was super friendly. Not a bad word to say about them. The room however had actual trash and forgotten clothing from the previous guests. The night stand has sticky cup rings and stains on it which has resulted in ants in the room! After talking to the staff the next morning about it, nothing was cleaned up. I've called several times to talk to a manger and every time I was told they were too busy and would call me back. Your Baymont hotel in Gurnee seriously needs assistance. The night manager on 08/19/2018 was smoking in his car while new guests arrived finding an empty counter. My cousin had to run outside twice to get the manager from his car. More hotel guests were coming down to the counter for assistance and he was no where to be found. On 08/20/2018, looks like the day manager's family was running all over the hotel playing hide and go seek behind the main desk, in the breakfast area and yes, there was a couple making out in the pool around 5pm. I was about to walk into the pool area and my two 11 yr old daughters and their cousins were with me. I had to push them back to the room and said the pool was being cleaned. Really, walked back and saw they were from the "family" running the hotel that morning. Really? Other issues - not enough towels on 08/19/2018 due to laundry service - it was 7pm?! The stoned out manager finally shows up with towels. We were one of 4 families staying at the hotel that day!!! Our door would swell shut due to the humidity in the hall and inside the room and thank god we had adjoining rooms so we could exit through the second room. The lights flickered in the bathroom (room 106). Also, upon arriving (room 108) smelled like something was burning. The housekeeper turned on the heater instead of the A/C - even though it was 80 degrees that day. Okay, I have contacted Wyndham about 5 times by email, customer comments, and yes even reached out to the Baymont inn through their gmail address. Nothing. I have asked for someone to call us to discuss why the hotel was being run like this. No response. Last email I told them that I will write our review of the worst customer service and hotel cleanliness we have ever seen. OH! And no Otis Spunkmeyer cookies in the evening in the lounge! UPDATE: MY WIFE GOT BITES FROM BEDBUGS. YOU NEED TO FUMIGATE AND CHANGE ALL THE BEDDING AND LINENS. We were in Room 103. I spoke with the manager on Saturday, and told him about the bugs. He asked why I didn't tell him sooner. I said because the welts didn't really show up until Thursday. He tried to lay it off on our luggage being infested, and that we should contact American Airlines. My sister is an nurse and recognized them immediately. She took my wife to urgent care and got her Prednisone and a prescription anti-itch cream. I'm going on the Wyndham website to let them know. Our daughter is stationed at Great Lakes. She booked the room for us. Overall, not a terrible place to stay. It was close to Great Lakes and right off the highway. Management was very helpful They replaced the dead hair dryer, and were always able to give us extra towels and pillows. Breakfast was typical for this level of motel. The hot food was hot, and they had a good selection of cereals and breads. I'm not sure they changed our linens each day. That being said, the place is due for a major renovation. Rooms are dark, and not well lit. Mattresses are old and overused. The mattress in the fold-out couch was seemed to be just springs. There was barely any hot water, even after all the PIR people left. Invest in a water softener. read more

I frequent the hotels in the Gurnee area on weekly basis to see my kids, and this is my top choice. The front desk staff are courteous, friendly and more than accommodating to early check in if possible, and holding luggage if not. The hotel is clean, modern and all the pictures are accurate. The pool is small but refreshing. The rooms are spacious, clean and well kept. The hotel is ideally located minutes off the tollway, on a major bus line, accessible via metra and next door to numerous restaurants, bars, and convince store. Minutes from Six Flags and Great Wolf. The breakfast in the morning is amazing and different each day. Sausage, eggs, juices, pastries, cereals... seriously something for everyone. I don't write a lot of reviews but wanted to make sure I did for this hotel. read more

Not a great place to stay. My sister in law booked 4 rooms for us to stay in during our trip to Six Flaggs. She called the hote to confirm our reservation 2 days in advance. We arrived earlier than checkin time and was not allowed to checkin yet which we completely understood. We were allowed to leave our car in the parking lot while we walked across the street to Six Flaggs. A few hours later the hotel staff called to ask if we were still planning on staying with them. We were eating lunch down the street and assured the staff that as soon as we finished lunch we'd be coming by the hotel. When we arrived to check in, we were told that they do not have all of our rooms ready because their housekeeping dept was short staffed. The rooms were vacant but had not been cleaned. Regardless if you are short staffed, we paid for 4 rooms and they even called to ask if we still needed the rooms. The hotel gave us 2 rooms to store our personal belongings so we could head back to Six Flaggs. The hotel would have the other 2 rooms cleaned and ready later. Although the rooms all had "Non Smoking Room" posted on the doors, they all smelled of cigarette and cigar smoke. One of the rooms toilet was clogged and when we told the hotel staff they brought up a plunger and said we had to take care of the clog ourselves. We didn't even clog the toilet it was like that when we got into the room! Half of the rooms didn't have towels. When we asked for towels they brought up 3 towels and said those were the last clean towels in the entire building. Some of the rooms were missing bedsheets and linens. The hotel staff appears not to care about the customers comfort. There didn't seem to be a manger on site to talk to. The rooms were in poor condition. Things were falling apart in the rooms. We will not be coming back to this hotel! As we were checking out another customer was complaining to the front desk that part of the ceiling had fallen which caused a cut on his leg. "You're always welcome at baymont suites " what a joke! Worst experience in a hotel ever! Super rude unhelpful staff. This horror story begins with me making my reservation 2 months ahead by phone. When my party arrived at the baymont inn at 10 pm I was informed that they would not give us our room because of their policy of needing payment by credit card. When I had made the reservation I was told that yes I could pay with cash. But when I got there they wanted payment in full by cash and to take the full amount off of a credit card! I call bs on that! Holding $400 hostage is not ok. I can understand a security deposit but the full amount? No way! When I questioned this so called policy the 2 ladies behind the desk became very rude to me yelling at me to "get out, go away, you'll need to stay somewhere else and you can call management Monday " Great way to treat a paying customer, no? Due to the fact that it is Friday night at 10pm with the naval graduation going on, there isn't a room to be had in a 20 mile radius! Especially that can accommodate 4 people! I wouldn't mind the situation if it was just me but my arthritic senior mother is traveling with us. We had to go all the way back to Kenosha Wisconsin to find a hotel that had a room! I truly believe that the policy at baymont inn is some bull story they told us because they overbooked. The fact that they refused to help us find someplace to stay at that late hour and just shrugged when I asked where the heck were we supposed to get someplace to stay, shows their truly despicable nature. This so called policy was not mentioned at the booking nor when I confirmed that they accepted cash! So for the next three nights we will be crammed into a smaller room at a hotel in Kenosha run by some far more polite people who know cash is king! We stayed here last week for one night after a trip to Six Flags. The plan was to stay the night here then get up the next morning to head to the Bristol Renaissance Faire. We arrived late, around 10 to check in, waited for the manager to deal with a broken shower problem. He was very polite and friendly. The room was just ok, clean enough, but then we noticed water leaking from the sink. Since we were only staying one night and it was late, we chose to deal with it rather than complain. The hotel room was small and fine for one night but I might choose somewhere else next time since there are so many choices in town. I will say the continental breakfast was better than others I've had, the sausage and potatoes were tasty and lots of variety. Overall, not the best hotel and other than the nice manager and ok breakfast will probably not stay here again. read more

This is the worst hotel experience I've ever had by far!! First we had no hot water in both our rooms, the breakfast was subpar at best , then we spent a solid 8 hours at sixflags and come back expecting fresh towels and a nice made bed to get into... I was wrong instead there was a lady whom spoke no english grabbing trash or I should say 1 trash bag because she left the rest and left the room. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. We were charged five times on our card and no one seemed to care too much. We came for a naval graduation and thought with it being so close to so many things it would be a great place to stay. The room was gross. Reeked of cigarette smoke, paint chipping off the walls. Rust along the bathroom door frames. The price we were expecting to pay was a decent deal, but we've ended up with 766$ in charges on the card. Vikki, at the front desk, should not work in guest relations, she is absolutely horrid. I don't understand why an establishment would allow such a nasty and rude person to be employed there. Breakfast wasn't good. Pool is tiny. I don't recommend for anyone to stay here until they can make some major changes. Unless you like money constantly being taken from your account and being treated like dirt.. then this is your place. read more

I stayed here January 12, 2013 with my two best friends. We went on a trip for my birthday and this was the perfect place for us to stay. The front desk attendents were very friendly so I shared my birthday cake with them. :) The beds were comfortable. I didn't have much time to look at the breakfast but it was pretty good from what I saw. I liked this a lot better than other hotels in Gurnee I have stayed at. I rarely write reviews, but I just had to take the time to write this one. My family stayed here over the weekend in 3 different rooms. They were all smelly and gross. Thank goodness the windows opened. The minute we turned the heating unit on I began to cough and wheeze. We turned it off immediately and kept it off for the rest of our stay. The rooms are dark and need updating. Two of the rooms had bugs. One family member was over charged for their room and the front desk had no understanding of how to fix it. Don't waste your time here. There are plenty of other decent hotels in the Gurnee area. The only reason it gets 1 star is because we were able to use the breakfast room for our family to gather together one night. read more

I arrived at the hotel at around 4, the official check-in time is 3. But when I got there they informed me that my room was not ready. I had to wait another 40 minutes before I could get into the room. Which makes me think, if I had shown up at the expected time at 3 that I would have had to wait almost two hours to check in. The room itself was average sized but a little cramped. The air system was not functioning correctly neither was a button on the tv remote. I chose a room that had a whirlpool tub in the bathroom and was quite lovely. Even though many hotels have the jetted tub in the room itself. The location is very great though. I would probably skip this hotel next time, there are much nicer hotels in the Gurnee Mills area with better quality service. read more

This hotel is a wreck, don't bother staying here. I will name a few reasons not to stay.........Bugs, shower barely useable. Furniture needs to be replaced, old with lots of wear and tear. Stayed here for 4 nights. Pros: - Great Breakfast, mix of hot and cold items. Make-your-own waffles everyday, and the rest of the hot bar rotated every day (biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, herbed potatoes, ham). Also had oatmeal packets, cereal, fruit, raisin bread, danishes, mini muffins, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, hot chocolate packets. - Free Wi-Fi internet connection. - Convenient location, al least for what I needed. Close proximity to Gurnee Mills outlet mall, the interstate, Six Flags, etc. - Has an indoor pool, although the temp was a little chilly (not sure if they always keep it that cold or if it was a result of the 12 degree temp outside, to give them the benefit of the doubt). Cons: - Upkeep may be an issue. When we checked in we had to put in a maintenance request since our toilet handle was broken and one of the light bulbs was burned out in the room. (It was fixed during our stay). Likewise, the printer in the business center didn't work, it was missing the cable to connect to the computer. - On one day our dirty towels were removed from the room, but not replaced with clean ones, leaving us to dry off after our showers with hand towels since the front desk said they didn't have any towels. - Front desk staff was hit or miss. Sarah was very helpful, while some other young lady I dealt with lacked customer service skills. It seemed like no one was ever behind the desk, they were always in a side office room, so you'd have to make noise to get their attention to come out and answer your question. - Pool temp was a little chilly. My niece was insistent on getting in, but her blue/purple lips confirmed it was a little on the cold side. - Light switch layout. In our room, the bathroom light and vent switches were in an odd location, outside the bathroom and around the corner by a bed...not very convenient if you forget to turn on the vent before a shower or go in there to pee and then decide to do more. We also had to reset the outlet by these switches, since it must have magically tripped at night since the vanity/bathroom lights wouldn't turn on one morning. read more

I don't really expect a lot from hotels when I travel (unless it's a resort!). My husband and I traveled to Gurnee, Illinois because our son was graduating from Naval Recruit Training in nearby Great Lakes, IL. This hotel wasn't too far away and we found a decent price on Orbitz, so we booked it for 2 nights. Big mistake! The first clue it wasn't going to be a stellar experience occurred on the elevator. Good thing we were only going to the second floor. The elevator groaned and shook and jerked to the point we thought it was going to fall. Next clue was the hallway to our room. There were holes in the lower part of the walls. Not attractive. Then the room itself. The wall-hung hairdryer was in the sink because the holder was broken. The pillows on the bed were old and lumpy and probably should have been replaced 2 or 3 years ago. The dresser drawers didn't close properly and the door on the cabinet that held the mini fridge also wouldn't close. The shower curtain rod was half off the wall. The bed itself wasn't bad, and the guy who checked us in was nice. That doesn't make up for the other problems. We definitely won't stay in a Baymont Inn again!! read more

We made reservations at this place so we could enjoy a weekend at Great America. This place was not only visibly dirt when we walked in the door. The floors at the reception area were wet and slippery. The pool was so dirty you couldn't even see the bottom of the pool and the whirlpool was out of order. When we got to our room the tub and bathroom was dirty. We checked the beds for Bed Bugs and first found hair on the mattress pads and dirt between the mattress, mattress pad and head board. Then we found a BED BUG!!!!!!!!! We brought the bug to the reception desk with a picture of bed bugs on our Ipad. We did get our money back but were stuck with no place to stay. The guy called around to see if anywhere near by had any rooms and he told us that the LaQuita had a room for us. When we got their, the receptionist had no clue as to what we were talking about. She said she had a room but it was a smokers room and it stunk to high heaven. We ended up at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites. The gentleman at the desk said he only had one room for one night. By this time it was about 2am. We explained to the man what had happened and asked if we could inspect the room first. He was very nice and even gave us flashlight's to use for the inspection.The room was very clean so we stayed the night and he gave a nice discount on the room. After this we were left with only a few hour to sleep to get up and spend the day at Great America. When we left Great America the thought of trying to find another hotel and risk Bed Bugs was just too much. We ended up driving home that night. A 5 hour drive. It was 4am when we finally got to bed. This hotel totally ruined our vacation!!!!!!!!!!! read more

When i first arrived I was very tired and it was late at night. I just wanted to sleep. I check in and go to my room and the beds are propped up against the wall. I had to go back downstairs and get a new room. I did not complain. I wish i would have. I checked in late Thursday night and I checked out on Sunday. When I checked my back on Monday I had several charges from the hotel. I keep calling them to get the situation fixed however they blow me off and make excuses. I want my money back and until I get it you will get called everyday and I will leave a bad review everyday. read more
