Extremely Disappointed - Confirmed Reservation Didn't Matter Our group of four families reserved oceanfront rooms at the Holiday Inn Resort Surfside Beach for July 10-14 (Confirmation #84496025). We arrived after check-in only to be told our reservation had been canceled and our rooms were gone. We were given multiple excuses--that our credit card was declined (it was never even run), that our reservation wasn't guaranteed (it was secured with a credit card), and eventually the truth came out: the hotel had oversold its rooms. Neither the front desk nor over 45 minutes with IHG Customer Care produced a reasonable solution. The only option offered was rooms at another IHG hotel that wasn't oceanfront and cost nearly twice as much. At 6:00 p.m., after traveling all day, four families were left scrambling to find accommodations during one of the busiest weeks of the summer. It completely ruined the start of our vacation. I've been a loyal IHG Rewards member for many years, but this experience has convinced me to stay with more reliable brands like Marriott or Hilton in the future. If you're counting on your reservation being honored, I would think twice before booking this hotel. read more

The door key codes didn't work ever the whole time we were there. And it take over 15 minutes to get hot water above the 5th floor. And staff didn't seem to care. They don't give you enough towels. Bedding wasn't the cleanest. read more

I had an extremely disappointing experience with this company that turned what was supposed to be a special spring break trip with my daughter into a stressful and frustrating situation. I originally qualified for this promotional trip and booked it well before I was married. At the time of booking, I fully met all requirements. However, by the time of travel, I had gotten married, something that should have been a positive life event, not a reason to be penalized. When I arrived for the required presentation, I was told I could not participate because my spouse was not present. I explained that my husband is currently deployed on active duty, which is completely outside of my control. Despite this, I was denied participation and was going to be charged a $500 "disqualification" fee. What's most frustrating is that I showed up in good faith, ready to fulfill my obligation. This was not a no-show or an attempt to avoid the presentation. It was a situation where life circumstances changed after booking and not only that, but due to military service. There was no meaningful attempt to accommodate the situation. I was briefly told someone would try to contact corporate, but within moments was told they couldn't get through and handed a number to call myself. When I did, I was simply told "it's policy," with no consideration for the timeline of booking or the fact that my spouse is deployed. While they ultimately reduced the fee, I was still penalized for circumstances that were both unavoidable and, frankly, deserving of understanding. This was charged almost instantly after my call ended. This experience felt rigid, unfair, and lacking any empathy especially toward military families. I would strongly discourage others before booking with this company, particularly if there's any chance your life circumstances could change between booking and travel. A company's true character shows in how they handle situations like this and this was incredibly discouraging and ultimately disgusting. I fully plan to share my experience with any and all family members as well as our other service members and community as I would hate for anyone else fighting for our freedom to be penalized for doing so. read more

My partner & I booked a suite for Valentines Day, we arrived at 5pm we were told to come back in 30 minutes because their system was down, which was inconvenient, we were understanding we left got food, we did not return until 7pm. It is now 8:22pm & we are still standing in the lobby waiting. We had to bring our children to celebrate with us, it was supposed to be a fun family Valentine's Day trip to the beach.... The receptionists had no urgency about her, it had to be at least 11 people in the lobby waiting to get into the rooms/suites they paid for!!!! This is ridiculous!!!! People work HARD for their money, it makes no sense we spent half the time trying to get into the suite we booked & paid for in advance. Then they offered NO TYPE of compensation for the terrible, unprofessional inconvenience!!! read more

This place needs a remodel and an overhaul. The only nice thing here is the front desk personnel. Had dinner at their restaurant and to start with the bartender was the only one working. Took a while to be greeted at front. When we were seated we waited for him to return and he acted surprised we were eating. Should have left then. We ordered a pretzel and I asked for some spicy mustard. The bottle was absolutely filthy - see pic. The food tasted like something out of a vending machine. I would never stay here again and how the heck do you get the distinction resort. I have stayed at lower end hotels that were cleaner and better maintained. Stayed here a long time ago but have had dinner and lunch in the bar restaurant a few times recently. The bar has windows facing the ocean and the hotel is ocean front. Just a mile north of the new seaside pier. The pier is 1.8 miles north of my condo and it's a nice beach walk. I would recommend this hotel to friends. People I heard talking at the bar seemed to be regulars and like staying each year. read more

The following day she even asked if we enjoyed it and we let her know it was a great recommendation. The staff at the desk were nice and pleasant each day . We would definitely return to this hotel. Sooooooooo my boyfriend and i went here for my birthday. Let me start off my saying the lady servers (it's 3 of them, can't remember there names) are awesome. I felt so comforted each time i went to the restaurant and bar because of them. The view is to die for. The hotel looks ehhh, from the outside. The room we had was nice. We had to call a few times for things like toilet tissue towels from The front desk - but if we ran into housekeeping they are awesome and very helpful. Rooms were clean enough. Recommendations- keep the bar open later. SC already has crazy liq laws. Please look up each states laws prior to visiting lol. So it would be nice if there bar stayed open later then 10/11. OverAlll - i defffffff would come back and get the ocean view king sized room again. The convenience to be 15 steps away from the ocean was great!!!! Five stars for being on the beach . On arrival I did online check in , key cards were ready on arrival . Overall it's a older hotel the salt water has did a number on it . Room door looked like too many paint jobs, but overall it closed and locked. Room was a little stuffy , opened patio to get some fresh air , proceeded to wipe down with my Clorox wipes and spray Lysol . Room is a nice size but too much furniture but it's cute but crowded. Beds are comfortable and plenty of pillows. Small refrigerator but no microwave which may be a issue for some , but we don't bring back leftovers . Overall will return for future stays read more

I have been staying at this hotel for the past 25 years. Grew up going there with my parents and loved it because it was so quiet, peaceful and the ocean views were amazing! I have seen it transform over the years, due to both updating and restoration from hurricane damage. I have always felt at home here and have never had an issue. Now, as an adult, I take my kids and it is still amazing! Great food, views, staff has always been more than friendly, and helpful when needed. I love when we check in we can get extra towels and such and not be bothered by housekeeping the whole stay. I love that it is quiet and peaceful and away from the hustle and bustle as we enjoy just a relaxing get away from the norm vacation. We usually go to Garden City while we are there and were referred to Wicked Tuna by the staff and it was amazing!! It has always been very clean and just simply easy, cozy, comfortable. I stayed here for a week for my birthday & I was pleasantly surprised how nice the hotel was! I heard they just gave the place a face lift. The oceanfront view is beautiful! My friends joined me 2 days later & were able to get the oceanfront view in the room next to me. We hopped on each other's balcony's everyday. It was decent rates & restaurant prices were all reasonable. Kelly at the bar was really nice & gave me lots of suggestions for places to go to. Monday was half off burgers, they have different specials everyday. I can honestly say, it was the best burger I've had in a while!! Juicy & cooked perfectly. Fresh brewed coffee every morning too! Cherri at the front desk was awesome! She was really nice & we said hi to her every morning & she always asked how our night went. We loved her!! You can watch the sunrise from the balcony & the sound of the waves put me to sleep every night. I would definitely stay here again! read more

For an IHG Holiday Inn chain facility, it fell short. The building is pretty, but everything keeps breaking down (ice machines, arcade, shower drains), we found a cockroach in the stairwell, the night manager refused to help with Wi-Fi when asked, no free meals, and the maid service will wake you up at 9 am to check your trash but only change bedding every four days. For how much this place asks per night, the service is minimal and nothing is included without coating extra. Good for a budget vacation, but not as advertised. read more

Disappointing, aging property in need of some maintenance in the elevators and hallways. Our 3rd floor "view room" was amazing, views of rooftop equipment, smells of kitchen exhaust, and sounds of a bearing on the motor going out. We are IHG Spire Elite status and our profile says high floor but even though we called Monday and Thursday to ask about room assignment (top floor), they didn't accommodate us. We stay over 75 nights a year with IHG and understand that they only upgrade on availability in the last 3 years we've had 1 upgrade. We are also Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, and Choice Diamond, they honor our profile, requests and upgrades. Time to stop staying at IHG Properties. read more

My girlfriend and I visited this hotel on vacation. This hotel is amazing. The staff was very friendly and took care of everything. My only suggestion is to keep the bar open a little late since state law requires liquor stores to close at 7pm. The restaurant is nice, the rooms are clean. The view is nice if you get an oceanfront room. The pool and beach is very relaxing. Steve is a great welcoming manager. Amy is a great server. Everybody is great. I have been working on the Myrtle Beach area for well over a year and this is the best place to stay. They have an AMAZING kitchen for breakfast lunch and dinner. The staff is AMAZING. And the rooms are super cozy. They are currently under remodel but they are working through it really well. Rooms: beds are super comfy and pillows are great. The only downfall is the fridge. It's super tiny and when you're traveling for a long time it'd be better to have a bigger and better quality fridge. The air conditioning goes down to 64 is you want which is a major win. There is a coffee pot and coffee available as well Staff: I cannot come up with enough good things to say about the staff, Melinda, Tyler, Debbie, Steve, Deb, the breakfast ladies just to name a few make me feel like home. They are so nice and spark up conversation and take really good care of you. Food: the food is SOOOOO good. The salads are HUGE, the fish and chips I've heard people rave about but my favorite is the Honey Siracha Chicken Tenders. YUMMY. The wings are so good too. Also the ranch is good (that's important) the breakfast - wow. The menu is great but then there's also (normally) a Buffett option that is great. This is not your continental breakfast that your used to. Outside: you have beach access to a more private-ish area of the beach and you have a great pool and hot tub ALSO a fire pit. Soooo cozy. To sum it up this is my favorite hotel ever and I love everyone and everything about it. read more

Our past few experiences with this hotel had been awesome, but after what took place last night, I am changing my mind. We had a reservation for the Holiday Inn oceanfront hotel last night, and after we were checked in, money debited from my bank, and even given a complimentary ocean view room, the man stopped us as we were going to the elevator, and basically booted us out, claiming that me and my four children could not stay, (we're homeless/been living in our car since Feb.9,2021). I had surgery 4months ago, so I am still recovering/healing, and I still get tired really easily. I told him about my surgery, and how I also could not see very well at night. He didn't seem to care, and quickly "refunded" the money that was taken out of my bank account. My bank does not show that it was refunded. Now we have only $34 in the bank. My bank, which is Bank of America, will take days to process this, so the funds may not be in my account/available until sometime next week. What is the point of being spire members, when a hotel treats us like garbage no matter what "rank" we are? To be treated this way is absolutely ridiculous. I had to drive 2 and half hours back, in the dark/rain (can't see well at night, and the rain made it worse). We ended up sleeping in a rest area. I will think twice before returning to this hotel. read more

Ignore the average 3 star rating!!! I honestly don't know what more you could ask from a hotel. Part of the deal is we must attend a 90 minute time share presentation, but they also gave us a $150 Visa gift card making the cost of our stay $12.50 per night + tax. Blue Green places you wherever they can find available rooms (you can't choose the hotel) and lucky for us we were placed here @ Holiday Inn Oceanside. After discovering our rooms had town views, we asked for an upgrade to ocean which they happily provided at a cost of $25 extra per night. FINAL THOUGHTS This hotel is not perfect, but it was perfect for us. Come on... it's right on the ocean! There are areas that show the age of this hotel, like the popcorn ceiling in the bathroom could use some attention. However, Cody assured me the bathrooms are all scheduled for renovations, which have already started. Even with that we thought the rooms, although small, were more that sufficient enough to lay our heads. They even allow dogs! Bottom line, I don't see any reason to give this place any less than 5 stars for it's location, beach accessibility and conveniences and 3.5 stars for its rooms. I've stayed in better, but I've also paid an arm and a leg to be ON the ocean. It's a little south of the main area of Myrtle Beach (about a 5 minute drive to the boardwalk), but that's a good thing because it also is less crowded. My only grip is they do allow visitors who are NOT guests of the hotel to use the facilities on a day pass. I understand the opportunity to generate extra revenue, but it seems kinda icky. read more

Now for the but- I am a Super Platinum IHG member with hundreds of thousands of points. It's the off season. The hotel is not full. I made my reservations weeks in advance. The girl at the front desk puts me in a boring room with no ocean view and worse, a view of several AC units. I don't blame her as much as I blame management. I most often stay in King Suites or better and of course they are complimentary. In case you can't tell I was seriously annoyed! This hotel will pay four prices for this mistake- 1. I'll take my very considerable business elsewhere. 2. I'll dock them one star. 3. I'll tell all my numerous IHG member business associates to avoid this property. 4. Great housekeeping staff! Only one elevator the entire time (Sat-Wed)! Stairs only exit outside, no access to/from lobby. Only one staircase has outside entrance. Outside key fobs don't work. Security could be a major problem. Little kids dominated the hot tub. Hot water can burn you of not careful! Never ran out of hot water so that's a positive. You are literally 25 feet from the beach which makes for a great experience. Rooms updated on par with something you'd expect. read more

I came here as part of a timeshare for BlueGreen. I didn't get to pick the hotel, but I insisted that I absolutely must have an outdoor pool. When I heard we were booked at the Holiday Inn, I was a little hesitant, but the pictures looked decent, the location (right on the beach) was ideal and I wanted a simple beach vacation. Checkin: This was pretty straightforward. I checked in around 4 pm. I asked for a higher floor, they said they were booked and would see what they could do. I was put on the second floor with no view, but of the ceiling. Room: The room had two queen beds, and they were decently comfortable, but could have been a little softer. The room was a good size and had more than enough room for two people. It was easy to tell that the rooms had been recently updated, and they did a nice job incorporating modern pieces into a beach paradise theme. I loved that each room had a fridge. Also, bonus points for all of the outlets in the room, travelers love this. Bathroom: It's a decent size with a full tub, and it has good counter and storage space, which I appreciated. The shower was a bit dark and could have used an additional light to help with shaving. I wish the bathroom had a fan, but that seems to be rare in hotels. Elevators: They are VERY slow, and because of that, people will pack themselves inside each time. You've been warned. Store: While there isn't a store at this hotel, there are essential items available, at a reasonable price in the lobby. I had to up my SPF on my third day, and was able to do so for $6, which I felt was a steal, especially for the convenience. You scan your item and pay through a machine, weird, but it worked! We also utilized their microwave (in the same location) to reheat leftovers from the night before, and that was a great bonus. Pool: Ahh, this is four stars. The pool is large and can hold a good deal of people comfortably. The water temp. is perfect and the pool gets direct sun until about 3 pm. There is a hot tub, but good luck getting in, there are always children inside for long periods of time - strange. The chairs are pretty looking, but the curve of them makes it nearly impossible to rest on your back. Pool chairs can all be occupied during busy times, but it wasn't too much of a challenge. Beach: The proximity to the beach is ideal and easily deserves five stars. We looked into renting chairs and an umbrella through the hotel, but it was at least $20, so we said no thanks. We went back and forth from the pool and the beach all day and loved it. There was never a need to rent the beach chairs in the four days we were there. Parking: Parking here is free (with a hotel-provided hang tag) and there is ample space. We were there over the July 4th holiday, and had no issues finding a spot, and we came and went multiple times a day. Room Keys: The biggest issue during our stay were our room keys. Our room keys were sensitive and it would take a few minutes each time to get into the room. We had the keys reset at least three times before we were entirely locked out of the room around 10 pm on the 4th of July. We had been anxious to change and get into the pool so we could continue to watch the remaining fireworks, but we never made it outside. We went down to the front desk to let them know we couldn't get in the room, and they promptly sent up maintenance. He couldn't get us in, but was quickly working to correct the situation. He had to call for backup and before we knew it, it was after 11 and we were praying for everything to be fixed so we could to go to bed. On the last day, we informed the manager, who was unaware of the situation, and did everything he could to make it right, which we both greatly appreciated. Overall experience: This is a simple hotel, it's not fancy or over the top. People visit this hotel because of the great location and reasonable price. If you want a no thrills laid-back, beach vacation, this might be your spot. read more

Great choice in hotel. We didn't want to be near the noise of murdles beach so we stayed here. We selected the ocean side so as to get a view of the sunrise over the ocean. There's a pool and hot tub here. Inside there's a restaurant which you can visit without being a hotel guest. I could not be any unhappier with a hotel than I am at this moment. I just arrived here for my much anticipated ocean front weekend. I was a little put off by reviews stating that the construction was blocking views so I called on Tuesday to verify that I would, in fact, have an ocean view. I was assured that the rooms still had great views but they were allowing cancellations without penalty because none of the public areas currently have ocean views. I decided I would go ahead and stay. I also mentioned that I needed to change the credit card, as the one I used to make the reservation had been compromised, cancelled and replaced. I was told I could do that at check in. I arrived about 8:45 this evening (Friday) to be told that my reservation had been cancelled. When I asked why I was told that my card was declined and they were not able to contact me. My bad, I had an old number listed on my rewards club account. They did have my correct email address and made no attempt to use it. They then put me in a room, but as you can see my relaxing weekend of sitting on the balcony listening to the water has been replaced by sitting on the balcony listening to the air handling units. I wouldn't be nearly as upset had I not tried to give them an updated card but was told to wait til checkin. Update - Saturday morning I went to the front desk and asked for the manager to express my discontent. Came to this location after arriving to another location in Myrtle Beach that was bad. Oceanfront will not disappoint you. Great check in experience with very friendly staff. Restaurant onsite is really good for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Nice pool area, location is on the beach. Free cabanas, fire pit and lounge area. Rooms are nice especially if you get an oceanfront view. Great location to stay if you ever visit Myrtle Beach. read more

Only giving this hotel any rating, because I have to...This is probably the worst hotel that I've stayed at. Months ago, we set up our room we had a Pet friendly room. Fast forward to now, we called to confirm our booking and they said they can't take pets...WHERE was our notification or some sort of we'll make it up to you. Breakfast...crappy and horrible hostess. Not enough parking to even hold events and other paying and STAYING customers. Lastly, we see a dog being walked on our floor...wtheck!? So we ask the front desk and the guy says, "trust me, we know it's a service dog." To me if someone says, trust me...thats a very deceptive response. Cleaning lady did a 1/2-butt job cleaning our room. But then left her cleaning cloth on our sink counter. Replaced one of our towels with a still DIRTY towel. My recommendation is find a better hotel that has THE basics of customer service down...its not hard to do, except for this place. BOTTOM LINE : don't waste your time because you'll be the one accommodating the staff instead of vice versus. read more
