This place was absolutely disappointing. The only reason I did not give this a one star is because the staff was friendly. Where do I start? When I get there to check in, the lobby smelled funny and there was construction outside. Check in was quick. I get into the room and it smells like absolute mould. I turn the air on cause it was off and the room was stifling hot. I sprayed my perfume everywhere to try to mask the smell and then left to get lunch hoping that the smell would go away. I get back and I walk in, the smell is still there so I asked to be transferred to another room. I get to the other room it also smells like mould. At this point there's no real room that would smell pleasant. I tried to cancel and switch to the holiday inn across the street that looks newer (I booked this one cause I didn't know there was a newer one and I'm coming from out of town). I couldn't cancel at all so I had to stay all 3 nights in this room that smelled like mould. And then the next day I went out for breakfast so that the room can get cleaned but when I returned it was not cleaned at all and the faucet grip fell off (see picture of hair ball on carpet and the faucet grip). This place should be renovated completely. For the money I spent, It was not worth it. read more

We stayed at this hotel last week. The first thing I noticed is that the hotel has smelled very strange. I feel like they kind of all do but this was an odd smell that I couldn't place. Our room itself was actually fairly decent. The bed was comfortable and everything appeared to be clean (tho I ALWAYS clean myself before I use anything). We went to a nearby store and bought some scented candles for the room and it was fine. The jacuzzi was quite nice. So, why the 2 star review? For one thing, no buffet style breakfast. Just an on site "restaurant". The main reason is that on Day 2, I realized that the smell I was smelling was probably mold or mildew. I came to this conclusion when it was pouring outside and I opened my curtains. All around the huge windows, there was water literally dripping onto the carpet (which soaked the socks I was wearing). I put hotel towels down on the carpet to soak up the water. It rained the rest of our stay and water steadily dropped onto the towels. I walked outside and looked while trying not be creepy and saw that 2 other rooms on either side of us also had water in the windows. Where do I begin...clean room, but that's about it...pool was disgusting, hotel was very loud, all night... Nobody does anything when you ask for help from the hotel, and the heat stopped working in the middle of the night, during a winter storm. We spent over $100 on a few burgers and salads...everything came out cold, and one meal at a time...& no breakfast voucher... We used to come here a few times a month, to let my autistic son swim, and to have some family time, but I think we'll start looking for a new place to stay...nothing about this place is guest oriented, or geared toward anything except squeezing every cent out of their guests, with their run down establishment, and half assed employees. read more

I do not recommend this property. It's very old, the rooms haven't been updated....it feels like a motel 6. During my 2 night stay I had several issues. 1. No hot water in the morning - apparently they had an issue throughout the hotel, they fixed after the first night, but that's a rough morning when you don't have hot water and need a shower. 2. Found a large bug crawling on my pillow the first night. 3. No hot breakfast. They have these paper bags with yogurt, a bottled water, nutrigrain bar and something else inside. It's very odd, they like them up on a table in the restaurant but the restaurant isn't actually open. It's next to the coffee, and they don't even make decaf. Holiday inn express at least has a hot breakfast. 4. Shuttle to the airport doesn't run all the time. I needed to leave at 6:30 AM, and they said the shuttle runs every hour, except for 7 AM. Seemed odd...so I called a Lyft, and got into the Lyft car right next to the shuttle that was parked in front of the hotel at 7:15 AM. read more

Should not be able to advertise amenities such as fitness center or Wifi because these are essentially non existent. The "fitness center" was filthy and stifling. There are two separate rooms with weights and another for cardio and both are tiny, dirty with no cleaning supplies or towels. Both looked like a crime scene. The pool looked nice but based on the upkeep on the rest of the hotel I would not test it. I gave two stars because the employees seem nice and I'm sure as most things right now understaffed. read more

The staff was a negative 50 stars. The hotel was dirty (though the floors in the lobby and hallway are nice) and the rooms were a pit. Let's not even talk about the rodents in the ceiling. How Wyndham gave this guy a hotel to run astounds me. So aside from the ridiculously untrained and uncaring staff...Aside from the conditions...aside from the laughable "to go breakfasts" (maybe not give someone a old hard boiled egg and a rotten apple?) Aside from the carpet in the room that's 60 years old...This place should be torn down and everyone FIRED! I checked in on a Thursday afternoon. While checking in the lady (?) behind the counter was talking to her bf, husband, or side buddy...whatever. She ended up double billing me. I called this to her attention as I was notified while still standing at the check in counter. She was baffled. Quite honestly, spelling her name out loud probably baffled her. So she says she'll have someone from accounting call me and this will be taken care of right away. Next day, I ask two knuckleheads for a status update on the situation. The guy had no idea what I was talking about but said he took care of it. (he did not) Friday night I spoke with "Billy"...Billy is a woman or at least that's what she's selling. Anyway....She tells me how wyndham just took over on the 1st of the year and how the system is new and mistakes happen. I said...Yes, mistakes happen. You're right...however, I'm not concerned with your mistake, I'm concerned with the lack of follow up and I'm concerned with the solution. I'll call you later today she says. No Call. Took till Saturday afternoon from someone claiming to be the GM and said someone from accounting would call me monday morning. It's Tuesday...no call. No call, no follow up and no care. If you're still with me and are wondering if I got my money back yet....No. Essentially I paid over $700.00 for a 3 night stay in a 60 year old dump disguised as a Wyndham hotel. Not only wasn't it worth the original amount to stay there, it wasn't worth a $1.00 to stay there. So thanks Syed Abbas. Thank you for....well...Nothing. Not nothing I guess. Thanks for stealing my money and all the wasted time talking to people who could of cared less. Don't worry, I'll make sure I hit all the other review sites as well. The Holiday Inn Southgate has a little hidden secret! It is called Club Charlie's, right inside the hotel! I have always been greeted by friendly people, great drinks and food!! One of the worst stays I have ever had at a hotel. Everything was broke. From the ice maker to the WiFi. This hotel isn't a 4 star at all. The kurig had water in it from the previous guest and the room was filthy. Total waste of over $200 a night. So done with this place and I won't ever recommend anyone to stay here. read more

This hotel gives a good all-around Holiday Inn experience. There's a pool and exercise room, and free wi-fi in the rooms. The restaurant and bar aren't too bad if you don't feel like driving elsewhere for food (and you do have to drive; no walking here!) Also the staff nicely recovered when no one was available to drive me to the airport - very quickly, one of the staff filled in and took me to DTW. read more

Being a small business manager, I normally only use Yelp to give a referral. That is sadly not the case here. To make a long, painful story short, the first problem was overcharging of my credit card. Of course, there was no one available to fix that issue. I'll also add that they strongly favor corporate accounts and treat those of us spending a paycheck to just get away as a major inconvenience; constantly asking things like "who are you even here with - why are you even renting a room here?!?" Also, (just like the overcharge) their phone staff just tells you what they think you want to hear ... including "checkout is 12pm". Well, checkout is at 11am,which is fine, but don't make the mistake of leaving your family there one minute longer because the staff will threaten police involvement and make your wife and toddler wait in the lobby, with all of your belongings, until you get back. A holiday stay at Holiday Inn is a terrible idea ...unless you're staying with your colleagues for a convention or something. read more

My hubby and I went here the Sunday evening after valentine day, we had a very pleasant experience. Crystal was probably one of the best customer service personal I have come across in a long time. Room 133 was a typical hotel room. Beds were comfortable, sheets were awesome . Toilet was a little to close to the wall for my wide behind. .but manageable.. Love that the light goes over the shower! I hate taking a shower in very dim light... Pool area was gorgeous. Love the fact that it went from 3 feet to 9 feet deep... Hot tub was perfectly heated. . Extra hot. But unfortunately the seats sit high and the water was extremely low..and there are no good jets.. . also the drain covers stock out horribly. . I stubbed my toes numerous times because I cannot see them under water... Besides our room, the pool area was the only room we visited. . But there is tons to do here... read more

I ordered a vodka tonic and I don't know if it was the tonic that came from the nozzles, but my drink was flat and disgusting. I stuck with beer for the rest of the night. I might be just a bit biased about this place because of the situation that required it, but I enjoyed this hotel and can recommend it without hesitation. The place is spacious, with a pool and rooms for events, the room itself was very nice with good ac, good beds and good television service and it even has onsite a restaurant and bar. We Had just spent 3 hours draining a flooded basement on a sunday night and our house still had no power, so we went in search of a room. It didn't take long to get checked in and the price was about what you would expect for a Holiday Inn. They're not the cheapest, but usually reliable. They obviously were taking in a lot of us but they handled it well and were friendly. They do include a breakfest that's pretty full service, eggs, potatoes, bacon, breakfast wraps...and my girlfriend thought it was ok, so maybe if you aren't picky, but I thought it was some of the worst food I'd had. The bacon and eggs were awful. Aside from that minor flaw, this is a good hotel. read more

This hotel was absolutely awful! After driving 1100 miles and arriving very late I check into my room put all my things away and go to take a shower and it doesn't work . The plumbing for it was loose and it moved back and forth in the wall and no hot water in the sink. I then had to pack up all my stuff and to move another room which smelled awful but was so tired that I just fell asleep. How many times do you need to change rooms in one night? I called customer service the next morning and they claim that they need 24 hrs to evaluate the situation and get back with you. Seriously? The staff at this hotel were unapologetic and rude. Fantastic! Clean, friendly, reasonable, and a staff ready to give full effort. We stayed here for a wedding and decided after the 1st night to bring our babysitter for the weekend out and get her a room so the kids can enjoy the pool and convenience. The pool is huge and all very clean. We dealt with one real bitch of a waitress in the bar so it took away the fifth star (yes, she was that bad) but anyone looking for a room downriver, this is the best all round hotel mixing in service and value that you'll be able to find! read more

I had many issues with my rooms lock. The shower was hot but it's shower pattern wasn't able to be changed or focus. I like hand held shower nozzles so I can use them as bidets. What annoyed me most was the worn out carpeting in the halls. I mean it was almost blackened from traffic. The arcade games were excessively expensive. I wanted to play the cool foosball hockey game with my daughters but the machine was so ill attended that one of the skaters had snapped off and the game was inoperable. I complained to management. I thought in vain. I complained again later that day to someone who looked more important. The next day my Russian left defenseman was back in all his twirling glory. I'm glad they fixed that commie defenseman because beating up on my daughters at tabletop hockey was one of the highlights of my stay. I had run up a record of 5-1 on my daughters. Then I left them team together and try to beat me. I beat them again. Then I summoned some young pre-teenage boy to play me. I lost 2-1 in a game that 30 minutes. I'm pretty sure he was a tabletop hockey hustler because after that game he offered to play for money to "make it more interesting". That reminded me of my youth when my brother and I would roam around Kentucky state parks and hustle people at horseshoes. He was 3 time state champion. The indoor swimming area was vast but suffocatingly humid and hot. There was a small swimming park next door that I think my daughters liked less than table top hockey. read more

Horrible experience security guard on a power trip called the police tried to kick my brother and I out for smoking in the pool area after hours. No warning was given. When the police came the security decided it was "ok" for us to stay after trying to use scare tactics to basically waste our time till 1:30 am. Ended up here because our car broke down on the way to Columbus, Ohio and they helped us with transportation (from where we were stuck) to pick up our luggage (where are car was towed) and helped us with a room that fit our family's needs. Visited quite a few times, very nice hotel. The pool area is beautiful, the bar has live bands, the free breakfast buffet wasn't anything special but for free it works! My only gripe is, every time we have stayed there is always a huge spider somewhere!! All different times of the year, different rooms, so there must be some issue with them. Comfortable beds. Staff is friendly. I've stayed here several times but will no longer, as they seem to be promoting the pool for kids birthday parties. If you like kids thumping up and down the hallway all hours of the day (and night) this is for you. I'm typing this as it is happening. I didn't want to be "that guy", but it took someone else opening the door and telling the kids it's 10:30pm and get your asses back to your room, as their parents were outside drinking. I wish I could give my stay at this hotel a six stars. It was absolutely perfect, the entire staff was so kind and helpful, I am truly happy I stayed here. My friends and I flew from FL to attend a music festival in Detroit, and this was a great choice. They offer you a free complimentary shuttle to and from the airport, which comes in handy. The shuttle will also you drive anywhere within a 5 mile range for free. Our shuttle drivers were super nice. The front desk staff was nice and helpful as well. They shared advice on where we should eat and get stuff we needed during our stay. The hotel also offered a complimentary breakfast and it was great. The eggs and pancakes were delicious. The rooms looked nice and clean. We didn't spend too much in it but the beds were comfy and the rooms had a microwave and a fridge. I'd stay at this hotel again anytime I went to Detroit. The only issue is sometimes getting an Uber can be hard if you are going downtown Detroit since the hotel is about 13 miles away from downtown but the hotel itself is perfect. read more

Went to this hotel for an office Christmas party, December 11, 2015. This is by far the best Holiday Inn I've been to! The food was so good, not the average banquet food. The food actually had flavor and great flavor at that!!! The staff was amazing!!! Every single staff member I encountered was friendly and went out of their way to accommodate. The pool and hot tub were crystal clear and the pool room was nice and warm as was the water! The breakfast was nice, more on the heavy side but delicious! I would recommend this hotel for staying and especially for banquets. The food was a traditional Christmas dinner with ham, turkey and most of the fixings. The meats were flavorful and best of all not dry! The gravy was tasty and real mashed potatoes! The stuffing was good and the veggie mix was not standard or mushy! The desserts were wonderful a great mix of pies, cakes, and cheese cakes and very scrumptious. Great Hotel!!! read more
