I'm a huge fan of hotels that breathe new life into historic structures, and the Element in Detroit…read moreis a perfect example. This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

We left, went to the casino and forgot our room key. The host was able to get us another promptly..there is a cooler in the lobby with sake, beer, water and other beverages for purchase. It has an old school vibe to the place and isn't your cookie cutter hotel. The lobby is beautifully decorated in Victorian decor. There is a coffee shop and speakeasy located on the first floor. The rooms are different and ours had a spiraling staircase that led to an upper level. The staff were great and friendly and room was clean and we had no issues at checkout.

The location is definitely the highlight, it's right next to Tigers Stadium, close to Ford Field, and within walking distance of the NBA arena, plus tons of great restaurants and bars nearby. If you're in town for a game or event, the location is hard to beat. That said, the hotel itself felt small and a bit cramped. The room was on the smaller side, and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable for a hotel at this price point (around ~$350/night). For that cost, I expected wayyy more space and comfort. One downside was the hotel bar,I couldn't even get a seat and didn't realize you needed a reservation, which was frustrating and took away from the experience. It's not a bad hotel by any means, and it has a cool vibe, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get. Decent stay, great location just not sure the value is there.

Had to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn the first night so in the morning, we thought we'd check our luggage. No need, room was ready! Beautiful room. A few observations: front desk clerk, though professional, was unfriendly/unwelcoming. The significance of this place is legendary and should have more the a few small cases of memorabilia. I would definitely recommend this place.

The location is excellent and conveniently situated near public transportation, making it easy to get around and explore the area. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and provided a great place to relax after a long day. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the exceptional hospitality. Upon our arrival, Kalea, the manager on duty, greeted us with one of the warmest welcomes I've ever received at a hotel. She went above and beyond to ensure we had all the information we needed and took genuine interest in making our stay as enjoyable as possible. What impressed me most was that she remembered our names the following day and personally checked in to make sure everything was meeting our expectations. That level of attentiveness and care is rare and is exactly what makes a hotel feel like home when you're away from home. Kalea's professionalism, kindness, and dedication to guest service made a lasting impression on all of us. I would absolutely stay at this Westin again, and I would be delighted to have the opportunity to cross paths with Ms. Kalea in the future. She is a true asset to the hotel and a wonderful example of exceptional hospitality.
