They worked diligently to get my mom's television connected so she was able to watch the Phillies that evening. The nurses, aides, chefs, servers, and all the employees are pleasant and have real compassion for their residents. I am relieved knowing my mom is in great hands and that the people helping her are truly there for the right reasons: to provide a safe, loving environment for all their residents! It is such an emotional process when parents give up their home to move into more long-term retirement care. The help we have received cannot be calculated in mere dollars, as it has been invaluable. We too compared other care facilities and none measured up to CC standards and quality of community. It is truly a gem of a place located in the lovely town of Carlisle, PA.

We had a very positive experience with Thornwald Home. My mom was in the hospital for 3 weeks, and…read morewas in need of a skilled nursing facility for 2+ weeks before she could transition home. Our social worker at Thornwald, Kathleen, was very supportive in our onboarding process all the way through to our transition to home health at the end of our stay. The medical staff was phenomenal in their care and ongoing support of my mom's complex needs with her wound care, and the ongoing OT and PT helped her gain the strength, balance and independence to be able to transition home safely. She also thought the food was great, the variety of the menu was wonderful, and the facility was very clean. It's never an easy situation for your loved one to need this level of care, and I have to commend all of the social workers, nursing staff and therapists that manage and triage so many needs at the same time. They truly are a blessing, and I'm so grateful for all of their support during a vulnerable time in my mom's healing process. I can't say enough good things about our experience at Thornwald.

My Mom moved into Juniper last September. She passed away on June 4th of this year. This is one of…read morethe saddest times of my life with losing her. But I wanted to send a wonderful review of the staff and facility. My Mom was no longer able to live by herself in her home because of declining mobility. It was a difficult decision to persuade her to move to assisted living, but she knew she had no choice. We picked Juniper because it's so close to our home and the staff seemed very caring and helpful. Her first week was difficult. She spent a lot of time in her room. We encouraged her to get involved in activities along with the staff and she did. Now when we called her she wasn't in her room. She was bowling, playing bingo or doing another activity. The staff really got her involved. She made a lot of friends. The nursing staff was very caring. They took care of her medications and all of her other needs. I can't thank them enough for the love and caring they showed my Mom. These ladies loved my Mom and would do anything for her. I can say that I would recommend this facility to anybody looking for a safe place to place their loved one. I miss everybody there. They made my wife and I along with our children and grandchildren feel welcome.

My mother lived at Country Meadows for 17 months, under their Independent Living Signature program…read more Unfortunately, we had to move my mother elsewhere when Country Meadows decided to eliminate the IL program, which would have meant we would have had to pay an additional $2,000/month just for someone to administer her medications (the only service she needed) . . . ridiculous!! Then they tried to tell me I only had 3 weeks to move her out, or pay the extra money. Too bad for them I pulled a copy of the lease which said they had to give me written notification AND give me 30-days notice. After I sent an email to Michael Leader, the Mechanicsburg mgmt called me and was not very happy that I went over their heads. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Country Meadows!! They took fantastic care of my mother, and we will miss them. But, I cannot say ANY good things about the management! The Executive Director, Amanda, and the Director of Resident Services, Olivia, are shady and incompetent, and don't care one bit about the residents there. They only care about money! It's so bad that most of the staff don't trust them either! More than once they tried to pull a fast one with me, but luckily I kept copies of every email, every document they sent me. So any time they tried to pull something, I'd call them out on it. I think it's safe to say they didn't like me very much because I didn't put up with their crap! So, if you're thinking about putting a parent in Country Meadows, you'll be very happy with the personal care they'll receive. But make sure you keep copies of ALL communications with management and DO NOT let them push you around!! Ultimately, you know what's best for your parent, so stick to your guns! They will try to convince you your parent needs a higher level of care, just so they can make more money. As much as we will miss the staff at Country Meadows, we were very happy to get out of that place!!!

Who knew the beautiful Ecumenical Retirement Community is located here? Yelp did!…read more Yelp volunteer Bingo night at Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg. Such a fun night engaging with this beautiful age group in their retirement community. This generation is serious about Bingo: don't call the numbers slow, don't go back over the numbers when players arrive late, and clearly state which Bingo (corners, blackout, etc.) Of course, the group likes the free treats, small gifts, and, last but not least, the mental stimulation, which is great for low-stress cognitive engagement and socialization. Ecumenical Retirement Community is a non-profit facility affiliated with Country Meadows, operating with the same high standards of care. I hope Cass schedules another volunteer opportunity here; the interaction was priceless.

The Dementia with Alzheimer's was getting worse. I tried home care, but it was just not enough for a good quality of life. While digging through the web and looking at Country Meadows (among many other wonderful places I visited), I stumbled on Ecumenical. A sister company. A hidden gem. After setting up a visit and lunch through the very kind and helpful Jason Turri, a room, or apartment as my Mom calls it, became available. What a relief. For both me and my Mom. The staff is nice. The food is reported excellent. The activities are plentiful. Access is 24 hour. The campus is delightful. Easy to get to off of 83 and Union Deposit Road.
