Who knew the beautiful Ecumenical Retirement Community is located here? Yelp did!…read more Yelp volunteer Bingo night at Ecumenical Retirement Community in Harrisburg. Such a fun night engaging with this beautiful age group in their retirement community. This generation is serious about Bingo: don't call the numbers slow, don't go back over the numbers when players arrive late, and clearly state which Bingo (corners, blackout, etc.) Of course, the group likes the free treats, small gifts, and, last but not least, the mental stimulation, which is great for low-stress cognitive engagement and socialization. Ecumenical Retirement Community is a non-profit facility affiliated with Country Meadows, operating with the same high standards of care. I hope Cass schedules another volunteer opportunity here; the interaction was priceless.

The Dementia with Alzheimer's was getting worse. I tried home care, but it was just not enough for a good quality of life. While digging through the web and looking at Country Meadows (among many other wonderful places I visited), I stumbled on Ecumenical. A sister company. A hidden gem. After setting up a visit and lunch through the very kind and helpful Jason Turri, a room, or apartment as my Mom calls it, became available. What a relief. For both me and my Mom. The staff is nice. The food is reported excellent. The activities are plentiful. Access is 24 hour. The campus is delightful. Easy to get to off of 83 and Union Deposit Road.

It was nice…read moreinitially but as time passed the food became worse and the cleanings of her room happened less frequently. Many times the items listed on the weekly menu were not available. In June of 2026 my mom's condition quickly deteriorated and we had to move her to an assisted living arrangement. In speaking with several relatives of those who had been in HaH assisted and memory care, we were horrified with the personal experiences we heard: mother left to sit in urine-soaked recliner day after day, Med Tech not knowing proper insulin amount to administer, one resident fell four times in one week (eventually breaking her pelvis), son found his mother lying naked on the floor in her own urine, and a family member found medication in his mother's pants pocket that wasn't even prescribed for her. Perhaps the most egregious behavior was when the aides in memory care filmed residents WITHOUT their permission and posted them on TikTok. Obviously after hearing all of these experiences we moved my mother to a different facility with a great reputation. Please do not take a loved one to live here. It is not safe for them!

I can't think of a worse place for mom or dad! Staff is rude and uncaring. The place although…read morebeautiful, is dirty. It's after 3pm and the dining room floor is still sticky from lunch. The tables obviously not cleaned either as they are covered in food residue. I've heard other residents state this facility didn't have hot water for several months. Staff in not engaged at all, rather talking/playing on their personal cell phones. The first time I visited this place I rounded the corner to witness 5 "nurses" hanging out and over heard one say "I'm surprised I got this job after I got out of jail". All I can say is I wouldn't let my parents live here after the complaints I hear from residents and terrible staff.

But I wanted to send a wonderful review of the staff and facility. My Mom was no longer able to live by herself in her home because of declining mobility. It was a difficult decision to persuade her to move to assisted living, but she knew she had no choice. We picked Juniper because it's so close to our home and the staff seemed very caring and helpful. Her first week was difficult. She spent a lot of time in her room. We encouraged her to get involved in activities along with the staff and she did. Now when we called her she wasn't in her room. She was bowling, playing bingo or doing another activity. The staff really got her involved. She made a lot of friends. The nursing staff was very caring. They took care of her medications and all of her other needs. I can't thank them enough for the love and caring they showed my Mom. These ladies loved my Mom and would do anything for her. I can say that I would recommend this facility to anybody looking for a safe place to place their loved one. I miss everybody there. They made my wife and I along with our children and grandchildren feel welcome.
