This store is by far the best of the grocery stores in the Redding area. I greatly appreciate the proprietary care the employees take. The soup is always hot, well attended to, and refilled regularly. At Placer Heights the salad bar is always fresh and has a dedicated attendant who also freshen the soups and cleans and stocks the bar. I've also seen (who appears to be) an upper manager who will periodically do spot checks with thermometers to ensure quality control. Wow! Very impressed! The deli is great. Meats and cheeses are always fresh. Produce is fresh and bread is fresh. Best deal in town for a sandwich and a soda! Produce rocks. Everything is fresh and presents well. But by far, the single main draw is the staff. Outstanding customer service professionals from the store manager to the Supervisors and from the head clerk to the grocery clerks and baggers. They definitely hire a type: Customer service oriented, amiable, professional, and friendly! That's why I shop and/or have lunch there nearly every day! Solid spot for a sandwich and fountain drink (~$9). Head to the sandwich counter within the market, and let the staff know what kind of sandwich and ingredients you'd like. Staff does a great job of building your sandwich; it tasted great. I ended up ordering the white roll with roast beef and various ingredients (i.e. lettuce, tomato, pickles). If there's a line for the sandwiches, don't be alarmed. Staff is quick so the line moves fast. There's also seating inside if you'd like to eat your food in the market. Visited yesterday and was shocked at the number of fellow shoppers not wearing masks effectively (exposed nose), or at all, and getting service. I will definitely not be back and if masking is important to you in COVID times (also, by the way, the law in California right now), you should avoid Holiday. I wanted to update my review of Holiday Market. They have really worked hard to create a high quality neighborhood grocery store. They have the best produce department in town, and they will often carry local produce. They respond to requests for new items. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cashiers are great. It's not a big store, which I really like, but they still have pretty much everything I need, from different kinds of ethnic food to healthy and low salt options to a variety of meat (like lamb and bison) and seafood to baking ingredients. They have regular specials and reward their regular customers in ways that actually make a difference in your grocery bill, but it would be a great place to shop for those from out of town, too. The layout is logical and it's easy to find what you're looking for, which can really save time. All in all, great store. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Holiday Market for many years. I love their high quality food but most of all, their friendly staff. They are always kind, helpful, and friendly. I went in there the other day and realized that they're still wearing masks. I asked an employee why are they were wearing a mask when I don't have to wear one as a customer and some other employees were maskless. They said it was because they weren't vaccinated. I am so disappointed in the isolation and discrimination towards their staff! IT IS NOT A LAW that they are forced to be vaccinated in order to take off their mask! Weather you are for or against vaccinations isn't the point. It is the fact that you are treating your employees differently for making choices about their own body!!! I moved here in 2020 and didn't shop here for awhile because I didn't recognize the name. My neighbor who works here clued me in to how awesome they are. Love the local products, and how many customer-requested items they get. (The excessive "customer requested" shelf tags make me laugh every time...please don't ever get rid of these lol.) I am ashamed I haven't already written a review for Holiday Market, shame! Found this gem of a store (think Whole Foods minus the corporate hoopla), five years ago, during a trip to Redding. I'll keep the review to my most recent visit, but first need to say that Holiday Market gets "10's across the board," for being a consistent, reliable brand in the North State. I ordered a veggie sandwich that I veganized, by requesting no cheese and no mayo. The LaBrea whole grain bread is the bomb, I could have eaten it solo bolo! I shared with Kaitlynn, the friendly young lady who helped me at the deli, that I was in town for work and picking up dinner to head home. She wrote the sweetest note on my sandwich! I just love these people! Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Things I love: employee owned, some of the items (i.e. bakery) are locally made, large variety of speciality salads, nice variety on the hot bar, did I mention the staff is super nice? I hadn't been in for 10 years because I had moved away. Boy was I surprised at how awesome they have made this place in the last ten years. The organic section of not only fruits and vegetables but dried/canned/baking/cereal goods was a nice touch. The wine selection is actually decent. They have a few really good deals each week. My neighbors hate that I shop at Holiday. Which is really weird because it's not very far from my house, but they think I'm snooty for shopping there. Trust me, I'm not snooty except when it comes to produce. I shop at the ends of the store which means I honestly skip most of the aisles in the middle except for a handful of items. What is important to me is 1) fresh produce 2) variety and 3) organic. Most markets, including Sunset Market which is a 5 min walk from my house *cry* will set out rotting produce because they need to sell it. I don't want to drive around town to 2 or 3 stores just to get what I need for dinner. I want to trust that one market has everything that I need. Beyond the produce all the other offerings in the store are very clean, organized and fresh/current. I've never seen the store crowded which is another plus. I like to shop without being crushed. The staff at the store regularly ask if you found everything and if they can special order or add a new item to their regular inventory. The only reason my neighbors don't shop here is the prices which I don't think are unreasonable. If you limit your processed food and cook fresh you'll save a ton. read more

Stopped in to get a sandwich from the deli and was helped by Lynn. I asked my wife to order first which she did. While making the sandwich, Lynn was more interested in trash talking another coworker to an adjacent worker. She stated the other employee was lazy and would rather sit and talk with her friend than work. Then, once the sandwich was made, focused her attention elsewhere ignoring me who was waiting to order. Other employees in the deli made two sandwiches together if it was a couple or group, Lynn, can not. She's as productive as a quadriplegic when it comes to making a sandwich. Holiday, I used to do most of my shopping at your sister store in Palo Cedro, and years back that sister of yours was a fairly typical example of a hayseed podunk country-ass gal. I used to occasionally drop in on you at Placer Road -- so fresh and sophisticated and hip -- and I confess I was envious. Compared with your plain-Jane, boring rural sister, you were drop-dead gorgeous. But as you surely recall, eventually your sister out in PC underwent a major makeover, and I'll be damned if that country girl didn't clean up real nice. (Baby, I gotta think you must have inspired her.) I honestly didn't think about you much after your sister got her act together. But then I moved into town, and it was easy to laterally transfer my fondness to you, because you two girls were more like twins than just sisters at that point. You became my go-to grocery store, straight away, easy as pie. Until now. You've changed. Don't get me wrong. I still like you, Holiday. But your recent makeover, which included: (1) getting rid of your butcher/seafood shop and the deli area where I could fill various-sized containers with gourmet condiments, (2) shrinking the beer and wine sections considerably, and (3) generally moving things around for no apparent reason, rendering my existing cognitive map of the store useless -- well, your new makeover blows like a Santa Ana wind. It's a persistent, hot, dry, annoying, sinus-cracking wind that makes me not only think less of you, girl, but less of life itself. For awhile there, Holiday, you seemed like you were striving for a "Whole Foods" thing, what with your expanding selection of local and organic produce, your wide range of specialty items, your fish market, your slammin' deli, all of those craft beers. And baby, I liked it. You weren't Whole Foods, but I appreciated the effort. It looked good on you, girl. It was sexy. I have lived in West Redding for over a decade and do about 1/3 of my shopping at the local Holiday on Placer. In general the store has a good selection, good quality of products and friendly staff. However, after my last visit on 9/25 I regret I won't return to the store until they revise their policy on enforcing the mask mandate. During the 10 minutes that I was in the store i observed several shoppers without wearing masks and no obvious mask in possession. One of the shoppers was at the produce bins picking up and smelling the produce, then returning the items to their bins. I spoke with the cashier on the way out about my concerns of spreading Covid and she said that they were told not to confront shoppers not wearing facial protection. I subsequently called the store manager to discuss why her store was in non compliance with the state mandate and her response was that it is a policy handed down by corporate. I then called the corporate office in Cottonwood and spoke with Ritchie who the manager told me was involved in policy making. He reconfirmed that it was his corporate policy not to address shoppers who were not using facial covering. After reiterating the dangers of Covid spread and the recommendations of the infectious disease community regarding the mandate he indicated that his policy would remain. I suggested that he have a monitor in the store, as some other businesses in Redding have, to enforce the mandate. Winco has a poster at the entrance of the store stating that their checkers would not checkout shoppers without masks, and he indicated their policy of no mask enforcement efforts would remain in effect. I have seen Safeway market staff confronting shoppers not wearing masks. Finally I discussed the issue with the Public Health Dept who advised me to file a complaint with their agency, which I did. I cannot comprehend why this business would, by their complacency, not be concerned about propagating the spread of Covid. Is it a money issue or do the Holiday policy makers disagree with the protective findings of the epidemiologists and infectious disease community? Addendum: I walked through the Holiday Market yesterday, 10/10 and again counted 8 shoppers without masks out of about 40 shoppers. The only reference to masks was a chalk board outside thanking patrons for wearing masks. It appears that the manager's response to my last post that the issue of mask mandate would be "forwarded" was again ignored. Thank you Holiday Market for contributing to our recent surge in Covid cases, now the most affected county in California. read more

For the deli area. Today we placed a sandwhich order online. Went to pick up and no sandwhiches. A cashier saw us and others waiting and went to see what was happening. The manager came out with her, the online ordering had gone down for multiple holiday markets, and our orders hadnt been made. There was no one in line, so we decided to go stand and get them made. Once we were up to order, things went downhill. My husband asked for a tomato wrap, was given spinach. He kept his mouth shut instead of pointing out the wrong wrap, he likes both so would just deal to get us out quicker. Next, trying to explain what to put on my sandwhich, the lady making kept jumping between mine and my husbands, throwing me off and unsure if I was ordering the right toppings for the right persons order. You could barely hear her, and it seemed like she could barely hear me. After 20min for a sandwhich and wrap to be made, we were finally on our way with me going into an anxiety attack over the sandwhich making process. Once home, I had to re wrap my husbands as it was folded, and not actually rolled like a wrap should be to hold the items. While I appreciate the manager and the cashier who helped in the situation, please give more training to the staff making sandwhiches, and teach them to efficiently work making sandwhiches one at a time and not multiples at once. (Another lady had 3 she was ordering and was extreamly flustered trying to make sure each was being made right, so it's not just me). read more

I have not been to this store in a while but stopped in for some tri tip at the meat shop and some yogurt for my wife. The yogurt was EXPIRED by a week and the tri tip had so much fat it was terrible. Never again ! I will stick with Safeway or Raleys. This mom and pop has no quality controls. read more

The true measure of a business is not when things go right but how they handle things going wrong. I picked up a cake I had ordered for my daughters birthday. The theme was the movie 'Frozen' and having purchased my sons 'Cars' cake here I had been very happy. I unknowingly ordered a chocolate frosting that make the whimsical image look less winter wonderland and more like a depressing end of winter mud pit. The staff took the cake back and made a new cake when seeing my expectation were not met. I will most defiantly keep getting cakes here as well as anything from their delicious sandwiches or groceries. They won me back over!" read more

Karen is a terrible sandwich maker. I have been coming to Holiday for years for groceries and I especially like the sandwiches. I was in there the other day, and got two sandwiches from Karen. She rushed it, they were made sloppy, and I felt like she didn't want to make them. She was rude, and at the register I noticed she wrote 'his' and 'hers' on the sandwiches, but for some reason she put a sad face on my sandwich. It made me feel like I did something wrong, so I will not be coming back for anymore sandwiches at your store. I also want to add, the sandwiches, both of them, went even cut in half correctly and they fell apart at my house because she wrapped them so poorly. Very sad! read more
