Karen is a terrible sandwich maker. I have been coming to Holiday for years for groceries and I especially like the sandwiches. I was in there the other day, and got two sandwiches from Karen. She rushed it, they were made sloppy, and I felt like she didn't want to make them. She was rude, and at the register I noticed she wrote 'his' and 'hers' on the sandwiches, but for some reason she put a sad face on my sandwich. It made me feel like I did something wrong, so I will not be coming back for anymore sandwiches at your store. I also want to add, the sandwiches, both of them, went even cut in half correctly and they fell apart at my house because she wrapped them so poorly. Very sad! read more

I enjoy shopping at Holiday because they carry products that are difficult to find in other locations. Unfortunately, there is an employee there that has ruined the customer experience for both me and my husband. Red-headed Chris in the deli department has made rude and spiteful comments about my husband in front of us and has taken to talking about him to his coworkers. I only know this because one of the other deli workers has told me about the things he's said. I'm disappointed to hear this and haven't been treated like this at any other store we've shopped at. Perhaps all Chris needs is training in customer service, but I still find his behavior unacceptable. read more

This is a great place! Fresh and some local produce. They have: -The best sandwiches in town, made fresh to order. -A juice bar, made from fresh produce 20 ft from the juicer. NO frozen fruits or vegetables. - Fresh made sushi. Not the greatest in the state, better than most in the area. -Beer on taps so you can try local beers on tap before purchasing them. -Wine tastings. I have not done these yet, looks like fun. - Amazing looking bakery. Sometime I just go there to eat without grocery shopping, because it it that good. They take requests for products. It can be a little more pricey, not by much on par with Safeway, I think it is better than safe way. read more

They should put sample cups out for customers to try the soup before they buy so you know you will like it before purchasing. There seems to be a nasty old bag lady watching the area who aggressively attacks anyone doing any small sampling and accuses those who do so of standing there and eating entire large containers of soup and cross contaminating everything, which is totally absurd and ridiculous! read more

Stopped shopping here, even though I live in the neighborhood, because of their lax compliance with enforcing the wearing of masks by employees and patrons due to COVID-19. We ordered a sheet cake for our children's birthday party from the bakery at Holiday on Placer. The bakery cake decorator was willing to use a photo I found on Pinterest and custom make it. It looked just like the photo I showed her and yet it was even better than I had hoped for! We added the Mickey Mouse and friends on top of the cake but I just can't rave enough on how beautiful this cake turned out. It was also very moist and tasted wonderful! Will definitely order another cake in the future for all of our party needs. read more

I used to do 90% of my shopping at Holiday Market on Placer, but after their big remodel, I've been disappointed at the emphasis they chose to pursue. They used to have the best produce market in town, and what they do have is good, but their selection of organic and local produce is greatly diminished, and they now are using much more of their produce area to sell juices, prepackaged produce, and prepared foods. Unfortunately, the quality of these items isn't tempting enough to get me to buy them over whole, fresh foods. Instead of being the awesome one-stop-shop that it used to be, to me, it's feeling more like it's trying to be a glorified convenience market. Because produce is the main draw for me at a grocery store, I've starting doing a lot more of my shopping at other venues, such as Costco, Safeway, and Winco. Costco has better prices and more organic choices than Holiday currently does (didn't used to be the case at all). Winco has far more variety of produce but no organic produce. Still, it is also much less expensive for conventional produce. Safeway has a lot more ethnic produce items such as plantains and lemongrass. I was willing to pay more at Holiday when they had more choices of fresh, whole produce items, but now it's not worth it. I suppose the management/marketing department of Holiday felt this was the way to go, but it is sending me to other venues. I'm probably now doing only 30% of my shopping there. Because I'm going elsewhere for produce, I'm buying other items elsewhere, too, such as dairy, meat, staples, etc. read more

I wish I could give a zero star. I have shopped at Holiday for 15 years, spent countless thousands of dollars there. I waited 45 min for a sandwich due to the snow conditions, the power went out after I was handed my sandwich and they were not able to process cards. They made us throw our sandwiches in a cart to be thrown away instead of letting the customers that were supporting them have them. Why waste food that can not be resold? I'm writing this review in response to Holiday's recent makeover, which, to me, is very disappointing. The new flooring is attractive, the cold cabinets with doors are an environmentally friendly touch, and the employees continue to be the best. But, the elimination of the fresh fish counter and deli bar is truly disappointing. I can only assume that Holiday must not have made much profit on the fish counter, hence its replacement with cold cabinets filled with pre-packaged, higher-profit "food". The only fish to be seen at Holiday now are a few small, pale pieces of salmon, a couple tilapia, and some shellfish, all plastic-wrapped on styrofoam trays. Like Mr. Buzz F., I am now shopping more at Tops, which now has a top-notch, fresh fish department (along with their lovely meat department) and more local produce. Holiday still has a few items that I like (the fresh ground peanut butter, for example), but if I find a suitable replacement, I won't be visiting very often in the future, as it was slightly out of my way (but I still went there at least twice a week). read more

just was at the Holiday on Placer Street. Was going to get a salad and a sandwich. Glad I was watching The Help. Watched as this girl put an old container of mayonnaise that had been sitting god-knows-where. It had Brown All Around the corners. I was going to overlook that as they were making my sandwich. But then I watched her take a container of red onions. That I assumed we were older too she put one handful on the new stuff. And then proceeded to smell the container and throw the rest of it out without taking the onion she had put with the fresh. I was horrified. Because that was the next item I was going to ask for for my sandwich. You never put old food on top of fresh new food. That's the best way to get salmonella poisoning especially mayonnaise ! I couldn't believe it I've never seen such a fragrant violation of Health codes in my life. I think I would have been more safe had she wiped her ass with it. I will never set foot in that store again. So sad because I get such great service in Cottonwood. read more

This is a must go to stop during every trip to Redding...not for grocery shopping, just for sandwiches. Nothing beats a dutch crunch salami sandwich with avocado from this deli. I just went in to pick up a few items, including tomatoes. So I pick up a store flyer on the way in and it has organic tomatoes for $1.49 a pound. When I get to the fruit area I see organic tomatoes for $2.49/pound, so I ask a lady working there where the sale tomatoes are and she says they don't have them and gives no explanation. I decide to take one up to the checkout with my other stuff and see what they do. The young lady at the checkout appears baffled by the situation and spends a long time typing on the keyboard, never explaining to me what she is trying to do. She finally comes up with a price that makes no sense but by that time there were 4 people waiting and I just paid it and left. You would think with their high prices they would at least have good service and have the products that appear in their ad! read more

Great place to buy deli food. They make sandwiches at the counter and have hot food available. There is also a dessert counter with gelato. I don't really buy groceries there except for when I need something in particular in a hurry (closest store to me) because in general you can find stuff cheaper elsewhere. Seriously every time I come in to get sliced meat they mess it up. My husband likes turkey, and I like ham. We get a 1/4lb of each every time, yet they either give us both ham or both turkey, and not even the same flavor of what we asked for. Finally I am deciding to yelp about it because I am so tired of having to come here to the only place in town to get Boar's head. Today, the lady had to ask her coworker if one she pulled to slice was actually turkey. Well, she ended up giving us two things of turkey. Ham does not sound like turkey. So we go back, I said I wanted black forest ham, and she gives me maple glazed ham. By this point i'm annoyed and frustrated because obviously some people are incompetent or the meats are labeled wrong and you can't tell the difference. I gave it back to her and left. I wish there was somewhere else to get fresh slices of Boar's head because it would totally eliminate my need to ever come to this overpriced market. Don't get the raspberries here either, they ALWAYS have mold on them. I'm going to come back later when hopefully another person is working the counter. We were even skeptical of coming to get any meat, that's why we got such a small amount of 1/4lb. because last time the turkey gave my husband bad stomach pains and diarrhea. Not sure if the meat slicer is cleaned often or if they change their gloves between foods/meats. I guess we'll find out later. read more

Went to the deli for a sandwich at 7:30pm, on a Saturday night, deli closes at 9:30pm. One girl was cleaning the grill and the other girl seemed upset that I was there to get some food. I ordered a hot pastrami on a wheat roll. She told me she couldn't heat the meat because they had already closed the grill for the night. WHAT? The deli doesn't close for 2 hours and you can't hear any more food??? I suggested she heat the meat in the microwave and she thought I was a genius for that idea. I wanted pickles on my sandwich but since the deli was closing in two hours she didn't want to get out any fresh pickles so I ended up with little pickle pieces that were floating around in the big tube of pickle juice, instead of nice full size pickle slices. Okay, time to pay, the cash register at the deli is CLOSED because the deli closes in 2 hours!!! I wanted to eat in the deli seating area, so up front I go to the main grocery cash registers, wait in line behind people with huge carts of food, now my hot pastrami is back to a cold pastrami. Finally I pay and walk back thru the store to the "dining" area. The sandwich was okay. The seating area is next to the produce area and while eating I watched a bird flying from one type of vegetable to another sampling as he went along, probably pooping in the vegetables too. I'm reviewing an employee in the produce who is always knowledgeable, helpful and has saved multiple dinners parties with his suggestions. Stacy has been extremely helpful more so than any other employee in any department most employees don't even stop to help and never smile. Stacy always smiles and is helpful to everyone. He's getting this five star review because at our most recent dinner party I was complimented on the freshness of the produce and when I mentioned who helped everyone knew who I was speaking of and had similar positive experiences with Stacy always smiling, a gentleman, helpful, professional and the cleanest department and more so than others in the produce department. My first time trying to ask a question there was 3 individuals behind the counter the 2 older men himmed and hawed refusing to help Stacy without being asked took the initiative and came to help. Everyone agrees Stacy goes above and beyond his fellow employees in any department. I could go somewhere else for produce and shopping but then I wouldn't get such great service! read more

Great sandwiches! I had the full size veggie burger with spinach, lettuce, red onion, avocado sprouts, and cucumber. The price included a bottle of water. On the minus side, the sandwich maker planned to put the sprouts on without washing them first, which I thought unwise, given recent e. coli outbreaks. Also, I was surprised when she sprayed Crisco onto the grill. I haven't seen Crisco since the 70s! I wondered whether she could have used something more healthy. Aside from that, Holiday Market was a good place to go. Be sure to get some Humboldt dark chocolate while you're there! read more

Clean, organized store. I've never had to say no to anyone begging for money outside this store. Which is rare in Redding. The employees are friendly and helpful. Great wine selection. The rewards card is free and gets you points towards free ski passes in the winter! Save those points! I'd give 5 stars but every now and then I get one grouchy cashier.... P.S. I come from a town where Holiday Market is to be avoided because of the terrible prices and lack of stock, so I am very happy to discover that this store in Redding is very different! They have aisles full of gluten free things, and not just normal GF things, but really crazy amazing stuff like GF gelato, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, pesto packets, and more. If you are gluten free then you need to shop here, end of story. I also love their little deli and feel oddly secured by the security guard at the door. read more

The first thing I will say is negative. They are expensive. Now in defense of Holiday Market, they have great quality, great products, and great variety. They have a great deli. They have a great cheese selection. The store is bright, very clean and I like the way its organized. There are many specialty items I haven't found any where else. So I keep coming back to shop here even though some say its too expensive. I love good quality and I feel this store has quality. Excellent grocery store! Their organic selection of fruits and veggies looks to me to be the best of all the stores I have shopped at in Redding. They have also special ordered items for me and my boyfriend and they are quick to get them. Being diet restricted as we are, they have a great variety of gluten free and Non-GMO foods too. It's a bit busy during lunch hours because it's close to Shasta High but usually the wait times are short. Happy to have them in the community. read more

For the most part, the employees are very nice. However, they need to get rid of the door greeter. One specific door greeter is extremely rude. Iv'e been followed to my car so he could see my receipt, as if I'd stolen something. When people say hello to him, he simply nods his head without any presence of happiness or even a soul. I have eaten at the deli in holiday market for years, but over the pass month I've been disappointed. Ever since tops went out of business and holiday adopted some of thier employees, the sandwich quality has gone downhill. My most recent experience was the worst. On 3/12/18 i walked in at 6 pm just to get a sandwich. Thier was no one in line, yet it still managed to take 5-10 minutes for them to even say anything to me. When they finally did, a girl named Krystal began helping me. I could smell a horrific odor from acoss the sneeze guard. I'm not tge kind of person to say anything,so i put up with it. She was unsure when I was simply explaining that i wanted no mustard, only mayo. She attempted to make my sandwich witch only had chicken strips, BBQ sauce, mayo, olives and lettuce. It was made so bad that the toppings were almost kindve thrown on the sandwich and that was it. I had to have the sandwich flattened or Pennied, just so i could eat it. When i got home and unrapped the sandwich, i was so disgusted with its appearance and i guess the "topping ratio" i was almost turned away from eating the sandwich. I hope i never have Krystal make my sandwich again, between the horrific smell and horrible sandwich build, im saddened that after 5+ years of eating sandwiches at holiday, this had to happen.
