It took peak resistance for me not to pet it and be its friend. I was greeted, and asked if I needed any assistance while I was looking for a good gift for my brother more than a couple of times. Super store! First time here. Great location - just a few minutes from the intersection of the 15 and 78. Easy on, easy off from the highway *BUT* it's a little tricky to find where they are in the stripmall. Ignore your GPS and pass it, coming from Center City and then make a U-Turn (it's right next to Arby's, in the big strip mall just to the east of Center City and north of Mission Road. They had a ton of wines inside, well labelled with info and divided into California grapes and countries. I have developed a favorite Italian wine (Forte Ambrone) at one of the Hillcrest restaurants, but I hate spending $15/glass for it, and then ordering Italian wines elsewhere that are just not quite as delicious. Found this place online, the only place listed in San Diego County that had it. $11.99/bottle! I called and they had 6 in stock, and put aside four for me. Easy in, easy out. Time wasters. Shipping a single bottle of wine from CA to WA costs $27.17 plus $1.15 to have it insured for damage or loss. They use GLS to ship, no other options. The only way to find out is to go though the whole check out flow, fill in first your e-mail address, phone number and all your other details. Then have to do it again to check the price for twelve bottles. They seem to be one of the only two online retailers that have my favorite wine Santo Tomas Tempranillo in stock but this is disappointing. No info about the shipping pricing and company on their shipping page. Why not have the option to fill in the 5 digits of my ZIP to provide a shipping estimate or just show a minimal shipping cost? read more

I had to go get it from downstairs and was really pleased at how well kept the wine and champagne are as well as the selection. Downstairs in the cellar is cool and lots of great wines from many regions are available. The gentleman managing the wines was very knowledgeable and cool. I took my friend and fiancée there, and found three kölsches, the most unbelievable nitro Cali cream ale, and a doppelbock I'd not yet tried. They had some great specialty liquors, too, though I only noted them on the way to the beer wall and cave. Ironically, I didn't even check the wines, as good craft beer was what I was searching for. I've had nothing but good to better to great experiences here. All of what they do, they do so well. & for what may seem like a simple shop, they do a lot. Especially with the curve ball of drastically changing times. Being a total beer nerd, before the global pandemic, Holiday Wine Cellar was my spot for packaged craft beer. Their selection was, & very much still is, outstanding. The service was, & still is, also exceptional. The people who work here know their beer. & there were even beer (wine & spirits, too) tasting events here promoting various breweries. You know, back when people could gather. So, then there was lockdown & no gathering & distancing & no going indoors. Holiday Wine Cellar rolled right with the punches. Their website is very easy to shop, is constantly & accurately updated, & they offer contactless curbside pickup with online orders. This place kept me in beer when the World shut down. I ordered beer. I got beer. Easily & comfortably during the height of extreme paranoid germophobia. Those beer cans were always brought out by the friendly & cool folks here whom I would probably not initially recognize without a mask on. As elements of "normalcy" have been creeping back into our lives, there's going inside to shop again & tasting events are back (just check their calendar on their really good website). If you are looking for hard to find beer or wine or whatever this just might be the place you might find what your looking for. I have been looking for some Canadian beer "Molson" a for some reason its a very difficult to find beer in Southern California. I called to see if they had what i was looking for and Mike put my order behind the counter until i got there, thanks Mike! I bought out all 3 twelve packs that they had left and the prices were very good. My wife also seemed to find a couple of sweet bottles of strawberry and peach wine. This place is wicked awesome. I've lived in Esco for about 25 years and I've never been inside this store until recently. It's absolutely amazing! They have an elaborate collection of all types or liquor, craft beer, and wine. They do wine tasting and offer samples on select products. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable as well. Prices are a tad bit more than your local grocery store but supporting a small business is worth the few bucks. They also have a loyalty program you can sign up for. The selection is very good here, from beer to wine and spirits. Unfortunately the good things end there. This is definitely a small business and while that should be a good thing, there are some issues that are stopping me from coming back here. Starting with the prices. While the selection is very good, prices are significantly higher than Bevmo for most items. 95% of the items here are not a good deal. They have a few clearance items that rotate and are great deals, but it's a rather obscure selection for better or worse. This business offers a reward program, however I never received an email or text after signing up, and we are now talking about years passing here. It's worth pointing out that the owners keep a large dog in this store. This may not fly for some people, others will love it. Personally it makes me nervous, a dog running around a liquor store? Staff here seem knowledgeable with liquors, I don't doubt that, but what I've seen is they don't know how to run a business on a technical level. From their rewards program to operating the register and pricing items. I wanted to buy a 4 pack of beer that was $14.99 but ringing up as $45. That took a while to correct. I went to buy another specific beer that turned out to be incorrectly labeled and priced. Staff seemed defensive about it and not really apologizing even though it was completely their fault. And maybe honor the customer since the price wasn't terribly different? Some notes: The hours are very strange here, what kind of a liquor store closes at 7 PM? And they are closed on Sundays.The handy cap spaces in the parking lot also need to be re-painted. read more

This is a fabulous store! They have extensive varieties and some"hard to get items." I was able to buy the last bottle of expensive Tequila as a xmas gift. They were the only store I could find it. We have been shopping here since the early 90's. On this visit we wanted to pickup various beers to take up to our son in Oregon. Their selection is second to none. They even have a refrigerated beer cave. I also was in the market for a Tannat from Uruguay. They had one they recommended and I purchased 2 for a very reasonable price. If you are a wine fanatic like me you will enjoy visiting the downstairs wine cellar. They have a huge collection of hard to find wines as well as a tasting lounge. I enjoy the beer selection here. I order my favorites and check online weekly for new crafts. Curbside pick-up is convenient. Just call when you get there and someone will bring out your online order. It takes at least a hour to put together an order granted everything you chose is available and how big your order is. There have been two separate orders I had a beer become unavailable after I already made my purchase online. The store used their messaging system to contact me. I was easily able to swap out the beer for another beer with the same cost. This was before the store had re-opened for in-store purchase. I'm not sure how it happened, but it was taken care of. I was happy to bring home a complete variety 6-pack of refreshing beer. I once used the messaging system to send them a message to let them know I won't pick up my order until the next day, but no one responded. So I don't rely on it too much. Calling in is the best way to contact a store employee. After June 4th re-opening, I've gone in the store a few times. Everyone is friendly and open to answer questions about their selection. The walk-in refrigerated room is great for buying 4-pack, 6-pack, or more. When there were three people (including me) inside I felt it a bit difficult to browse and maintain social distancing. Arguably the best independently owned alcoholic beverage shop in North County, it's hard to miss given the big ass sign that reads "LIQUOR" (which is pretty much an unofficial Escondido landmark in itself) lol. Every Friday they have wine tasting and last time I visited the lady mentioned they now do craft beer tastings as well, haven't been to one of those yet but it's definitely on my to-do list. I finally was in the area and decided to check it out, what and incredible selection of wine in the two story store !! Even cooler was on the lower floor they have an Enomatic wine serving system where you can purchase a prepaid card to sample all the wines. How cool is this? You literally can purchase each of the wines by the ounce to find wines you might not otherwise try. This is a great little place to select wines; they also have other spirits and beers. I can't see myself shopping for spirits anywhere else when I'm in town. What a great place run by great people. I was on quite the mission to find an elusive beer called pliny the elder (I don't drink beer myself) & was lucky enough to be pointed in the direction of the holiday wine cellar. I was told they received their shipments on Thursday's & sell out rather quickly so naturally I started calling to put out feelers on Wednesday. They were kind enough to take down my info & call me when the shipment arrived letting me know they did receive some then took it a step further by keeping me in the loop for when it was processed & ready for purchase. I made it in first thing the following morning (after my epic happy hour at Roxy's) & the man working handled everything for me from grabbing me a case to putting it into my car. Took them half a day to track down the order and promise to ship those bottles with a discount code for future purchases. This place is an Escondido institution. I come here specifically for their selection in Islay scotches, Jamaican rum, and local craft beer and Belgian beer. Hands down the best liquor store in town. Sure, there are big-chain-liquor-stores around that also have a decent selection and maybe sometimes slightly better prices on some items. But this place has WAY more knowledgeable and helpful service, and a more carefully curated selection. It seems like they have a good reputation with a lot of craft breweries because they often have a lot of rarities in stock.
