Dr Haghighat is amazing. Last year our 8 year old rotti was diagnosed with cancer in her chest and her toe. The original vet said don't bother removing the cancer in her toe as the cancer in her chest will get her anyway. She was given 6 month prognosis. I took our dog to Dr Haghighat and he immediate put her on a meal plan, (whole foods) and a variety of supplements and today, I year later she is a totally different dog, happy, energetic, and so happy with life. We had the cancerous lump removed plus one digit in January and you wouldn't even notice in her step. She appears pain free and in good health. 1. A growth on my dog's hip has been diagnosed as mast cell cancer. When it first appeared, testing was never discussed and Dr. Haghighat's lackadaisical, wait-and-see approach led me to believe that it wasn't a cause for concern. After two in-person appointments as well as me sending him pictures of the growing tumor, he still remained nonchalant. There was no alarm, no sense of urgency, not even a suggestion that this growth could potentially be cancerous. All Dr. Haghighat had to do was advise us to have a needle aspiration performed to determine the cause of the growth. That's it. The cancer would've been detected in its initial stage. Now, my dog must be tested to see if the cancer has metastasized. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Response from the owner: We are so sorry to hear that you did not have a good experience with our practice. I just wanted to clarify some of the concerns you mentioned. I believe that in most cases a fine needle aspirate (especially if it is done on a tumor that could be cancerous) can aggravate the tumor and initiate further spread. This sentiment has been echoed by other vets, conventional and holistic as well. That is the reason why I did not and will not recommend a fine needle aspirate at the time. The better way to address the issue is to remove the mass with a good margin and send it for histopathology. However, for your dog at the time of your exam in June it was because of poorly controlled seizures that we had concerns about him going under anesthetic so we decided to monitor the growth closely. Because your distance from the clinic at the time was a concern we also asked you to kindly send monthly pictures of the growth while using a topical salve. We have two photos, one in July a month after our visit with minimal change and one in December. The photo in December the growth was noticeable larger, and I saw your dog three days later with your partner for an exam. At the time of the exam I mentioned to your partner that the tumor ideally should be surgically removed. We always strive to provide the best care possible for our patients. In response to the owner: Not once did you ever advise us that this growth could potentially be cancerous. Not once. In fact, you remained vague about what the growth was this entire time. Not once did you ever discuss having the mass removed and sending it for a histopathology. Not once. My dog's epilepsy was never discussed in relation to the growth. Not once. Not once have you ever uttered the words: tumor or cancer to us regarding the growth. Not once. Not once have we ever cited distance or the fact that we live outside of Newmarket as a "concern". Not once. In fact, we've travelled to your clinic numerous times to simply pick up prescriptions. During the last visit, you said that the mass would have to be surgically removed if it got any larger otherwise the surgical site would be too large to close. This was our ONLY indication that the growth was something serious. We then asked for a referral to the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. It was there, at the Animal Cancer Centre, that a needle aspiration was performed and we received a diagnosis of mast cell cancer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3. The mast cell cancer has metastasized to our dog's abdomen and groin. He will most likely die within six months to a year. Our sweet-natured, bouncy, spirited boy will die because Dr. Haghighat never advised testing an abnormal growth that appeared on our dog in June. He failed our beautiful boy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Dr. Haghighat did not advise us, nor gave us a referral, to test the growth on my dog's hip to determine its cause. Without conclusive test results, he couldn't possibly know what he was treating. It was Mast Cell Cancer. For 8 months, he advised us to apply topical salves which only irritated and ulcerated the Mast Cell Tumor. MAST CELL TUMORS SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED AS THEY ARE UNSTABLE AND CAN RELEASE LARGE AMOUNTS OF HISTAMINE AND HEPARIN INTO CIRCULATION, (A PROCESS CALLED DEGRANULATION) WHICH CAN CAUSE GASTRIC ULCERATIONS, SYSTEMIC BLEEDING DISORDERS, LOW BLOOD PRESSURE AND SHOCK. THE TUMOR SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN MANUALLY MANIPULATED OR DISTURBED WITH SALVES AS THIS CAUSES DEGRANULATION. DR. HAGHIGHAT'S "TREATMENT" CAUSED MORE HARM TO OUR DOG. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. I had a beautiful boy Maltese named Camu ... he got a tiny stick caught diagonally in his throat. I rushed him to the closest vet ... they put him out and asperated him. They said they could not find the stick on the Xray so they insisted I take him to UOG veterinary clinic. I did! At the UOG clinic, they told me he was fine but could have been a number of things wrong and he could die if I took him home ...after hours of badgering me with their fear mongering techniques I reluctantly agreed to pick him up in the morning ... Upset tired and defeated I left my baby in the " best hands possible in Guelph."The clinic called me at 11 pm to tell me my dog had a brain tumor and that he would have an MRI in the morning and they would want to start radiation right away ... I was in shock ...HOW DID IT GET FROM A SMALL STICK DISLODGED IN HIS THROAT TO BRAIN TUMOURS! I went and got him ... he was so drugged he did not know me ... I told them NO drugs! They provided a list of drugs they gave him. I slept with him and gave him good stuff to try to clean his system ... by 10 in the morning he was out chasing his ball and playful and beautiful for another year ... I reported it but nothing was done and they actually said they did not give him as many drugs as they wrote down which I do not believe ... they waived the rest of the invoice and apologized for misunderstanding ...then a year later his liver failed ... 2 main reasons for liver failure is from toxins or medication ... 2 reliable clairvoyant people told me he died of pharmaceuticals. My dog slept in an organic bed ... ate only organic food ...drank purified water. My husband and I do not even take aspirin and have no toxic chemicals on our property. I took him to Dr. Sasan Haghighat and had an ultrasound done. That is when The technician doing the ultrasound said his liver was beyond repair ... Dr. Haghighat gave me hope and give up I did not! ... for two months I desperately tried to save my boy and one very sad night after a very hopeful day where things were looking good I lost his physical being. Dr. Haghighat called me on Saturdays to see how he was doing and held my hand through this horrendous ordeal. His staff was amazing and even sent flowers. Sometimes all our love and skills just are not enough... so painful. Dr. Sasan Haghighat has successfully looked after my other dogs and provided significant support through one of my most difficult times in life. My point here is he is a man that relies on knowledge and takes his position seriously. We are prescribed safe healing medicine that will not destroy organs but actually strengthen them. Dr. Haghighat's compassion is definitely not only extended to his human clients that same genuine compassion is given to our nonhuman family. This is the place to go if you want to give your pet TRUE health care that they deserve, from a caring vet. One year ago I adopted my beloved cat. As soon as I brought him home, he started to develop secondary infections as a result of feline herpes. I took him to your conventional vet multiple times, and they couldn't help him. As soon as he would stop taking antibiotics, he would reacquire an infection. I cannot say enough amazing things about this clinic and about Dr. Haghighat. When my 4 year old doodle started vomiting after he ate anything I took him to my regular vet. For 5 months they prescribed various medications and prescription kibble. He continued to decline and lose weight and his pancreas levels were off the charts to the point two vets had said in their 20+ year careers they had never seen blood results that bad. I was told those blood levels are indicative of a dying dog. I was devastated and was determined to find a way to save my baby.
