I am extremely disappointed with the purchasing experience. After my order failed to ship as expected, I contacted customer service. I wish I could give more stars honestly. I got a 50 bulb pack of triumph tulips and another of daffodils along with a 15 pack of saffron crocus. They were already trying to sprout in the box. I planted them in mid October before the winter hit. Sure enough, the crocus took off and come spring I had tulips and daffodils all over the yard. When the 18th came, I contacted customer service who gave me a vague answer that they'd be shipped.... whenever. When I still hadn't gotten the bulbs by the 27th, I contacted them again. Got a PP attitude. The bulbs had not been shipped. She didn't know when they'd be shipped. Could be a week, could be am month. Nastiness is what I got. I canceled the order. Condensing things as best I can: I ordered a water lily rhizome [root] with pot and fertilizer for $25. As advertised, all I had to do was stick it into my pond. Over the course of 9 weeks, it never grew. I ended up buying living lilies from a mom-and-pop store complete with pads and blooms for...you guessed it...$25 each. After much difficulty, HBF offered a merchandise credit (which did NOT include shipping...40% of the total). So if I want to receive any kind of compensation at all, I'm forced to do even more business with them. By itself, this is not a huge deal. But a couple weeks after the water lily order was placed, a special was offered on dahlia tubers ("Ball Mixture Dahlias"). I placed an order, four of the five came up, and are just now starting to bloom (see photo). Do these blossoms look the same as their ad to you? Um...no. See the pattern here? Despite a strong urge to make snarky comments, I will stick to the facts. They offer a "100% guarantee" on their products. To me, this means I give them money, and they will deliver WHAT I ORDERED, to my door, in a VIABLE CONDITION. Apparently, they don't view the contract the same way. I'd leave zero stars if it were possible. On December 9th, 2025 I ordered 8 amaryllis bulbs for Christmas gifts. I was informed the order was to be delivered by USPS on 15 December. However, I received an update that it was "delayed in transit" with the last update coming from Indianapolis and no future delivery date provided. Yesterday, I was informed my delivery would arrive today, which it did. I opened the box and individual burlap containers only to find that each bulb was soft mush and definitely not viable; likely due to freezing during transit or they were sent this way. Now waiting on a refund. HBF is good at advertising, but very poor at delivering quality product. Last summer I ordered gladiolus bulbs and a significant number were dried up and dead. I placed an order with HBFs for my wife just before December assuring it would arrive well before Xmas. I received an email stating the order had shipped. After a week I checked the tracking of the package with FedEx that noted "Label has been created." Understanding the holidays can delay shipping I decided to wait. After another there was still no progress with FedEx tracking. I contacted FedEx who said the label was created but the package was never received. I contacted HBFs through their chat assistant who at first told me the package was shipped but got lost in shipping. Then without any further attempt to help, told me the item was out of stock and all they could do is give me a refund. I started my front yard garden in 2023. It has taken several years to fill in. I have purchased close to 1500 bulbs from Holland Bulb farms. Yes, there have been times some things have not come up, but 90% of what I have planted has bloomed, pollinated for more, and are bigger and more beautiful each year. It sounds like those with negative comments did not understand what they were buying, how it would look upon arrival, and what to do. It's taken me three go times to get my anemone to grow. I didn't understand that they needed to be saturated with water and allow time to grow, then be planted. I will say it would be nice to have more instructions for growth on some of those not so straight forward flowers, but I've had nothing but good results. My blazing stars started as 10 bulbs and have now grown to over 300 individual plans in 3 seasons. The bumblebees absolutely love them and pollinated the hell out of them. read more

If you love perennials then you should consider Holland Bulb Farms. I am an avid gardener and am constantly looking for unique additions for my extensive garden. My current favourites are double late tulips. If you are unfamiliar with these, picture your favourite peonies but as individual perennial tulips. Each variety is stunning in its own way and HBF always has a few charming new ones that I must have. This year I have my eye on the Crystal Beauty Fringed and the Finola. I have purchased several amaryllis kits and bare bulbs over the course of a couple of years. All have flourished. The bulbs purchased just after xmas (at very good prices) all produced 3 or 4 flower spikes over the course of an extended period. The bulbs delivered at the end of April (again at very good prices) first bulb spikes are just starting to open. As always the bulbs were very large and healthy looking. Shipping has been always fast (with heat packs to prevent frost damage in the colder months) and the bulbs and kits have looked great on delivery. The older bulbs flower reliably and are starting to split into multiple bulbs. I have never had any reason to return anything. I am about to order some plants for my outdoor garden. read more
