What an unusual experience... we were hunting a filling breakfast EARLY on Sunday morning in order to drive and catch a flight out of Minneapolis later. Hollandberry was one of only a handful of places open, and we were only the 2nd table seated. The coffee was potent... strong and needed to be cut a bit with some cream, still had great flavor. The menu is extensive and I was trying to wrap my southern brain around what a pannekoeken was, so I stayed with the safer choice of an egg and locally made sausage skillet. I let my friend try the pannekoeken. The sausage and eggs hit the spot, cooked perfectly, and really paired well with the hot sauces available on the tables. We were taken a bit off guard as we watched a server run bolting out into the seating area carrying plates and singing toward the other table. My friend and I shared a universal look of "what did we just witness?" When, lo and behold, our server is running with plates toward our table and singing... okay, this is their thing. The pannekoeken is very tasty, almost like a hybrid pancake and custard flavor. Subtle sweetness, with a pop of the fruit (he chose the blueberry), and set just like a combo of crepe/pancake/custard. Their muffin bakery almost overwhelms the senses with sweetness wafting through the air and I could've made a meal just off muffins! 100% of five star restaurant. We arrived on a Sunday morning and waited about 15 minutes for a party of two. While waiting, we checked out all of the delicious looking muffins, there had to have been at least 20 different kinds of "gourmet muffins", think of a cupcake shop but switch it with muffins. This restaurant is extremely loud, if you have any sensitivity to noise, I recommend trying to sit outside, unfortunately, the outside seating was not open when we visited. I ended up going with an omelette with hashbrowns and pancakes. Between the pancakes and the syrup. These are some of the best pancakes I've had in my entire life. I can't explain to you what made them so delicious, but 10 out of 10 I would recommend and these were just their basic side pancakes. My friend went with a Pannoeken and fair warning you get a little jingle being yelled towards your table when you get it delivered. She said it was super tasty and filling and would highly recommend. This is obviously their signature dish so that makes total sense! Honestly, the whole visit was great, it did take a while to get our bill and then get the credit card back from paying but with how busy the restaurant is it wasn't a huge deal. By the time we left, there were probably 20 parties waiting to have brunch. If this is a place you're wanting to check out I recommend getting there early. read more

I was excited to try this place since I've heard several good things about it. We decided to stop in on a Wednesday late morning to grab some brunch. To my surprise, the dining area was fuller than I expected for a weekday, which was a good sign. Since they have only been open a few months, the interior was clean and spacious with large windows that allowed lots of natural light to come through. The pastry display was quite large, and they offered a huge variety of muffins. I know this place is renowned for Pannekoeken but I wasn't really in the mood for it so I decided to order their Mettwurst and Eggs (I chose scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, buttered sourdough toast). The hashbrowns and toast were pretty standard but prepared well. The scrambled eggs were overcooked unfortunately, they were flat (not fluffy) and a little rubbery. The star of the dish was definitely the Mettwurst sausage (came with a side of grainy mustard). The flavor profile was reminiscent of a Polish sausage. The sausage had an excellent snap and was seasoned well. The mustard's acidity balanced out and complimented the richness of the sausage. Overall, I did very much enjoy the food and experience. The service was pretty good, and our server was attentive to our needs. Parking is very convenient because they have their own parking lot. Would definitely go back again, maybe next time I'll pick up some muffins. read more

Stumbled upon this breakfast spot after church in the area. It was a 30 minute wait, but we weren't in a rush and waited and ordered a cappuccino at their muffin bar. A nice perk is that they don't charge to add flavor (vanilla, caramel, or chocolate). We waited under 30 minutes. We sat at the kitchen counter to eat and had good service from a nice server. The ambiance was loud, but easy to have conversations. I got the Rotterdam - which was *delicious* absolutely recommend! We didn't get orange juice, but they do offer freshly squeezed orange juice, which they were prepping right next to us and smelled amazing. read more

This was a fun stop, the food was flavorful and service was fast considering how busy it was. Two things of note after our first visit, 1. There is a LONG wait, we waited 40 minutes for a table. But I suspect that is typical for Saturday mornings. And 2. The noise, the dinning room could benefit from more sound dampening. I would be aware of this if you are sensitive to loud environments. Hollandberry P in La Crosse was nice. We had two dishes of fried egg with hash brown and sausage links and one with patties, and a Pannekoeken- apple pecan. The servings were very big- so it will fill a hearty appetite. The panneokoeken was very good! Nice ratio of apples and pecans. The egg breakfast meals were also good, however, some of the egg yolks were very cooked- it would be nice, having some runny egg yolk. Our server was nice. The ambiance is an open space with some outside seating. The inside was frigid, the air conditioning was cranking. We decided to sit outside, even though the weather was a pretty warm and the sun was out. The umbrellas don't cover the sun, only partially. There was also construction across the way so it was a bit annoying hearing all the beeping and truck sounds. Our food took a while to come. It got a bit hot after a while from waiting so long. I would recommend to give priority to the outside orders due to the heat. I understand we chose it, but understanding the longer you seat outside the hotter it gets, and the inside is too frigid. Overall a nice experience and the food was good. I recommend, but bring a heavy jacket to keep you warm due to the air conditioning. Being outside is nice, but after a while it gets too hot and the noise from the construction (I'm sure this would be temporary until they finish building- not sure how long that would be- see the date of review). read more

The food is absolutely delicious. We were seated, order taken, food came out hot, and in a totally reasonable timeframe. We ordered the Pannekoekens and were not disappointed. the portions were good for the money, and they come lightly dusted with powdered sugar, with. side of butter and maple-flavored corn syrup. Neither of us used the syrup, the Pannekoeken are wonderful without. So, why the two-star rating? Atmosphere. The ambience is awful! So incredibly noisy. They built the thing and there's NO sound baffling. All walls, and ceilings are just hard surfaces. Thin carpet on part of the floor. Tile on the rest. The sound is worse than any bar I've been in. Conversation is not possible. Further, the more people there are, the louder they need to scream across the table to communicate, and the louder it gets. 12/10 on the food. -15/10 on the atmosphere. When the HVAC system comes online (no kidding) half of the patronage ducked looking for the landing plane. We both left with a headache from the noise. read more

For starters I have been going to the one in Rochester for years! So naturally when I learned they were opening in La Crosse I had to go. First off you walk in and it looks exactly the same! They planned that! And honestly it was pretty cool and it made me feel right at home. There can be a bit of a wait, obviously it's great food, though it moves fast. I like to sit at the bar when it's just me and there is never a wait for that. The staff is super friendly and there is always a family member present! You can taste that everything is made with love! Now for the good stuff! The breakfast is out of this world! I love the omelettes, and my favorite is the veggie omelette. The potatoes are absolutely amazing and I like mine a little well done! As if that's not enough you get your choice of: toast, muffin, or American pancakes! I mean cmon! Wow! You're not leaving hungry. Next up is the actual pannekoeken! It's in the name, so it has to be good! You guess it! It's memorable. Every bite was as good as the first! Now to wash this all down with some coffee! They bring you an entire pot of hot coffee- just the way I like it. Next up is lunch and dinner! Which honestly I have only had at the LAX store! Oh man! I have been here twice. The food is good, but both visits the service was okay. The first time I was there, my food came 15 min before everyone else at the table. The second time I was there, it came out all together, but then our server never checked back until we had to ask for a to go box and check. Food is fantastic- just like in Rochester. I'm amazed they have so many choices-never a bad meal. The price is good- the portions are huge and food is fresh. Given the made to order, fresh food and variety- there will be a wait. I went two days in a row at busy times with a big event in town and it was not too long a wait. Staff is super friendly even though they are working like dogs and I'm sure exhausted. I sat at the bar both times and could observe first hand how well they all support each other. If you want quick cheap food- this is not that place. Know you may need to wait, but it is worth it. Just like Rochester- this is a busy noisy place. I could still have a conversation- but it is all hustle and bustle. If that is not the vibe you want- then just know quiet intimate atmosphere will most likely not happen. I enjoyed the energy, great food, and something different from the norm.
