Fairway grass is very thin and the surface is very hard so getting under the ball is difficult. Holes are so close there is constantly people from other holes crossing over to play on the fairway you are on. On one hole the guy hit it over on to our putting green and played his ball from it! Loud music from carts and no enforcement from rangers on slow play foursomes. Our round was 4:40. Cart girl was great. Another poor Broward County course. read more

The course is beautiful, there are many issues. There are no restrooms on the course only a couple of trees to use. Also, there where no water coolers on the course. This course is on the Premier Card and I would not go back at all. They did not even have a refreshment cart at all. Don't waste your money going there. read more

The founder of Hollywood Florida, Joseph Young, made the creation of a golf course a priority when he created his new town. The Hollywood Beach Golf Resort was designed by Wally Nelson and noted golf course builder Charles Olsen. Olsen was in charge of the construction of the golf course which was built on what used to be tomatoes fields. The first nine holes were completed by winter 1922. In early 1924, Lee and his brother Chic Nelson, who served as the assistant golf professional, oversaw the opening of the 18 hole golf course and hotel. Later in 1924, Ralph Young of Indiana was brought in to oversee the course and update it. In February of 2017, The Hollywood Beach Golf Resort was chosen as the featured Florida Historic Golf trail which recognizes historic golf courses in the state of Florida. Golf is one of Florida's oldest sports and many of the oldest courses were built in conjunction with the railroads and hotels that developed across the state. The trail marks places where golf can still be played today on some of the oldest courses in the state. There is a monument outside the Hollywood Beach Golf Course course that marks the day when the course was established on January 19, 1924 by the Joseph W. Young Company which was named for and owned by the founder of Hollywood. Ninety five years later the golf course is still in operation. Today, the 110 acre, par-70, golf course features four sets of tees playing from 4,900 to 6,300 yards. It is one of only a few golf courses that does not have a view of homes from it's fairways, tees, or greens. The history of the course is paid homage in the club's bar and grill, named Grill 1924. They also have a golf shop that sells equipment and provides lessons. I flew into town looking to play some golf. All the pics on this yelp r fake or old. The course looks like trash. The club house isn't a club house. The overbooked and told us there was a 55 minute wait. The guy at the desk was nice. Ur ur couldn't make up. We left and found somewhere better. This is a fun and enjoyable course to play with a group of friends who love playing golf, but aren't too picky about course conditions. I am putting slow play, grouchy rangers and disrespectful proshop staff aside. Objectively speaking, this was actually the worst round of golf I have ever been a part of. The course is a sand pit. Perfect for laying out in the sun and tanning and hopping in the algae infested rivers. If you wanna golf go somewhere else. The greens were brown and not from dead grass but from sand and mud. Most inconsistent and rough greens i have ever seen in my life. You had no idea if u hit the fairway or the rough because it was all brown. Furthermore their teeboxes were literally just put in random spots in the middle of swamps. If you are a traveler looking for golf, do NOT go here. You will spend $100 for 18 and wanna ingest the algae the whole time. Theres a saying that goes something like, "a bad day at the golf course is better than a great day at work". This is not the case here. I would rather get fired from my job than play this course. I'm married with 5 kids. Taking your wife on a shopping spree to Nordstrom would be a better use of your money. Brutal course. Needs a lot of love. Pure goat track. Great course to bring yours kids. But if it rains at all you can forget about it.

This resort is literally in my backyard and a wonderful escape from the everyday routine. This property was donated to the City of Hollywood by it's founding father Joseph Young. For use of the residents and it's visitors as a public park. Current management company have greatly improved the facilities this year with all new golf carts. As well as they are working on many other projects including the greens. They have a mound of dirt in the back that came from the site of the newest high rise that you can clearly see while on the course. So after many years living here I finally use the grounds for golf and accompany my husband. Personally I am truly sorry I waited so long. Convenient parking close to the pro shop and you can literally bring the cart up to your vehicle which is not always the case at most courses. The greens are in fairly decent condition. There is a place to stop and get a drink and snack half way through the course. Please bring cash only or there is an ATM in the Pro Shop which is where I had to go. Everyone here including the golfers are very friendly. Now my review and observations are from after season as I came here for the first time on Mother's Day. Usually the snow birds go home traditionally in early April or after Easter whatever comes first. I look forward to coming back real soon in the meantime I will continue to enjoy looking at the beautiful greens as I drive past every day. read more

We were there on vacation and we're looking to golf a few days. From the initial contact this place was remarkable. Pete was the first person I talked to to book my tee time and when I walked in I felt like I was a member of the club. Super friendly staff who all went out of their way to make our day enjoyable. Pete, Linda and Jake were all great. We ended up staying after golf to have a drink and heard about the great burgers. They did not lie! I would go there just for the burger but the golf was great also! The fairways were well taken care of and the greens had a little crab grass but were otherwise in great shape. Thank you especially to Pete for making me feel so welcomed and for giving us a fantastic experience!! I wanted to also shout out to E! I didn't know there was a golf course & country club in the middle of downtown Hollywood! They also have a small hotel there too which could be great for wedding parties. I went here for a banquet. Nice sized space, great & attentive staff. There were options for chicken, beef or fish so variety for groups. I chose the chicken options which was a big portion of meat served with roasted potatoes and veggies. Very flavorful! I enjoyed cheesecake for dessert, it was light & fluffy served with strawberries! I was expecting more of a resort feel to this hotel, but I didn't get that whoa feeling. Just went with reviews from tripadvisor or expedia, and picked this hotel specifically because it was close to the airport since our flights were early in the AM. Lobby closes at about 8pm so you have to arrange a request if you're trying to check in late. The lady who worked the front desk was very helpful and nice. The rooms were okay, kinda had a motel feel to them. VERY spacious, there was so much room for how the room was furnished. My group booked two rooms next to each other. It was weird that one was super outdated, and the other had a pretty updated bathroom. The rooms came with the basic amenities and a fridge. Overall, I think this place is a-ok. I wouldn't chose to stay here for a vacation vibe, but it was ok for a one night stay. read more

If you're an out-of-towner, you'd expect a place with a name like this to be some kind of glorious beachside cabana experience. (Unless you showed up with a reservation and hadn't bothered to look it up on Yelp or TripAdvisor, because you trust your brother). So while you are indeed in the Miami area, and there are beaches relatively close by, note that this place is not on a beach. Still, HBGR is all right. I'm no golfer, I was just here for the hotel. The hotel is average-y, but was clean and all our towel needs were taken care of. The wall A/C was struggling to keep it temperate in there. There is no desk service after 5ish pm, so if you need to check in after hours, too bad. Wi-Fi is free, but tepid. The staff were all very friendly though, so add a 1/2 star. The best thing about this place is the peaceful view of the golf course greens that you get from your hotel room. Yes, every once in a while, somebody might have to drive by in a cart to play through, but it was rare. At 4:30 in the morning, though, somebody kicked down the door of a neighboring room. We were not brave enough to investigate when it happened, and the next morning staff disavowed knowledge of the incident (even though a completely broken door frame that was not there the previous day seems like a red hot smoking gun..) The staff were super friendly and very helpful. However the course itself was disappointing. The layout of the course i found to be fun and challenging but the conditions were sub par. The tee boxes were ok but were in better shape than most of the fairways. The greens were bumpy, very sandy and extremely slow. But the $16 i paid to play as many holes as i could before it got dark was a plus which and i wish more places did this. The price and the staff were the only real plus marks for this course. read more

Played a fantastic round today with my ten year old son. The course isn't too hard or too easy, it's designed for anyone who enjoys the game to have a satisfying experience. It's well maintained and clean, the fairways are maincured and the greens have character. The beverage girl did a great job of showing up whenever we needed her, and all of the staff and the other players were very friendly. For the price ($35 on a Sunday; $30 for kids) this course offered excellent value and I can't wait to return. read more

The course was horribly conditioned. Tees were sand/dirt and the fairways had no grass. weeds everywhere . horrendous. greens were awful and beyond slow and holes were poorly cut and all broken down around the edges as if they hadnt been changed in days.The only redeeming feature was that nobody else was playing( on a beautiful day in season)..the locals must know better.... so we finished in 3 hours. there was loose debris everywhere from prior storms that had never been cleaned up. I felt like I had my pocket picked for $40. total waste of time and money.find another place to spend your golf dollars.zero stars here. read more

The Greenskeeper from Orangebrook evidently transferred to HBGR. It now rivals Orangebrook for the "how bad can a golf course get & still charge" trophy. Holes on the greens haven't been moved/changed in at least a week, tees, fairways are basically weeds. Hollywood needs to decide if they want to be in the golf business--they are leaning toward "no" by all I see. read more

Has potential to be a really nice and fun course but could use some work. The layout is pretty cool with holes u have to lay up on unless you can fly the ball 250 over the water. All the pins were tucked in the corners so it made it nice and challenging and bunkers were in good condition, was actually fun to hit out of. Greens were in pretty bad condition tho with blemishes all over them an were really slow. Fairways also had brown spot an were all blotchy. read more

"Tried" to play a round today. Unfortunately, if you play in the summer here there is a LOT of rain! These old courses are not designed to handle this much water. Went off on hole 10 and the back side was not as bad as the front. Only got a few holes in on the front and had to call it a day. The bunkers were like ponds and even the fairways were swamp like. This is no joke. Instead I suggest you play Jacaranda which is about 15 mins from Hollywood. I played there twice in the past 2 weeks and that course was in amazing shape and drainage system worked to perfection! I will not play here again if there is so much as a sprinkle! read more

Interesting 5300+ yards from the senior (green) tees. Greens are a little slow, but challenging as were the traps and trees. A lot of "old" growth Florida trees make the place a tropical paradise. Thanks to "Steve" and "Dave" to keep the action rolling and "homey" tips for first timers. Gave them a nice tip, and they were very appreciative. Fairways and tee boxes are pretty nice for a economical public course. Nicer than most. Really enjoyed my rounds and intend to play again soon. read more

You will be surprised if this is your first time there. Could use a little $ infusion, but what a fabulous layout. Don't expect a short-muni here, is well designed and a real challenge. I would bet "in-season" it is in a little better shape. But the real highlight were the numerous Iguana's around the course, almost like they are there watching you play. When I made reservation, asked if they had rental clubs with stiffer shafts. Said it's very important as I have higher swing speed. Was surprised to get a set with regular flex and a ladies flex sand wedge and hybrid. Starter said sorry, try to swing slower (not what I wanted to hear). Course itself was a good value $25 for 18. We made a very bad decision in choosing this hotel. There was nobody at the front desk after 5 pm - we had to retrieve our keys from a lockbox outside the hotel. We could have picked up three other room keys as well - it was not at all secure. No key cards either - actual keys. No elevators either. We got to the room which had a horrible musty smell and stained sheets and comforters. As we were watching tv, salamanders started skittering around the walls. We tried to chase them out only to find that they could easily slip under the door and come back in. There was nobody at the front desk when we left in the morning. Our cab driver who picked us up told us he'd been driving a cab for 12 years and had no idea that hotel existed. It was a creepy, dirty, unsettling experience. Do not book here. read more

My family and I just stayed at the Hollywood Beach Golf Resort and were not impressed to say the least. Overpriced for a 1965 hotel room with little amenities. We also believe that we (my wife, two children, and I) got pneumonia from the A/C unit in the room. We only stayed there for two nights, but were so cold that we stayed underneath the blankets the whole time, which still wasn't enough. There were no extra pillows, blankets, etc. The security of the room was an issue too. When we got inside there, the backdoor was off it's track and the latch was not secured. We asked for maintenance to fix it, but never showed up. My wife finally got it on track enough to secure with the latch. That same night, some guy knocked on our door asking for someone who was not in the room, but after he knocked, he was able to open the door. Luckily, we had that one latched, but if we didn't, who knows. read more

I just recently played Hollywood Beach country club and I was very disappointed with the condition of the course. There was standing water on most of the holes and we haven't had rain in weeks. The greens were inundated with weeds and the fairways were sparse. I understand they will be undergoing a complete restoration in early summer 2017. I would not recommend playing this course at this time. The icing on the cake was they charge $63 during the week, which was ridiculous for this track. read more

This is a decent, playable course. Has enough challenges for the average golfer in the form of water hazards and pin placements but not daunting either. The golfer looking for a top notch course will be disappointed but we were happy playing here. Staff was really friendly and the course played well. The one negative was that the greens are so slow. Lots of sand on them but you just have to strike your putts more firmly. Lots of cool wildlife on the course including huge iguanas. read more

This place is filthy. Dead cockroach in the room when I entered. Bathtub is supposed to be white, but black on the bottom. Don't walk in your room unless your wearing shoes or your feet will be black on the bottom which is a problem since you don't want to get in the bathtub to clean yourself. Glad we're only here for one night as a stopping point for our cruise. They should be paying me to sleep here. read more

I arrived at this hotel this evening after a 12 hour drive. There is no one to check you in, I had to get my key out of a lock box. When I got into my room and brought my bags in I went to look out my window, but the window was too high for me to look out of. I decided to take a shower, walked into the bathroom to be greeted by a HUGE cockroach coming out of the wall. I called the number that was on my key and was told that no one was there to help me. I was not staying in the hotel for the evening. I would not recommend staying in this hotel if it was the only one you could find in Hollywood. They really didn't even care about my situation. read more
