I have been traveling from Highlands Ranch to Hollywood Barbers since 2012 to get my son's hair cut. They offer a friendly comfortable atmosphere, easy-going barbers, and they support the community they have been present in for decades. They give back, offering free haircuts at the beginning of the school year so kids can feel good and confident for the first day of school. They do other community functions like sponsoring families for the holidays making sure kids have presents to open on Christmas or serving a warm meal. There are times when I have come for my appointment and they are feeding patrons in the barbershop just because. The owner, Mike is very professional and gives a warm welcome to all entering the establishment. He's a strong male figure and has no problem talking to the young boys. Shellie, my current is the only female working in the barbershop. She has been my barber since she joined the team. She has given me guidance on keeping my hair the best it can be. She is constantly upping her game doing new things like steam treatments and Scalp Micropigmentation. The most important thing about the barbershop, they don't discriminate. All races, religions, genders, and economic statuses (rich, poor, and anywhere in between) are welcome without judgment. The ONLY requirement is to be respectful. Recently, the shop has received bad press because of a resident living above the barbershop. Don't judge them based on something they can't control - freedom of speech. My barber, Muhammad, asked detailed questions about what type of cut I was looking for, and he took his time with the details - the fade was great and he lined me up properly. Great black (they serve everyone well, plenty of diversity) barber shop; found this gem 3 blocks from home! Passed it several times when I first moved to the area, driving the 45 min to my old barber until I saw a crowd there one day and realized it was a barber shop. Great stafff with a wide variety in age and specialty skills (fades, designs, etc....) typically found in a barbershop; there are a total of 11-12 barbers cutting so things move quickly. Like any barber shop they can get a lil' busy at peak times Thu-Sat. Clean, great barbers, and a friendly crowd of folks; can you ask for more? You can also join the occasional game of bones in the back if you're lucky enough! Also onsite is a great shoe care (shine) provider that will give your sneaks/casual/dress shoes new life. He's one of the few shoe shine providers in the area that understands how to shine a casual shoe vs. a dress shoe. Dull shine vs bright shine most do on all shoes, regardless of style; kudos to him! No real complaints here; but I would like some of the busier barbers have their own individual number systems for their regulars, so that you don't have to keep and eye on where you're at in line. This is THE spot for a clean cut in Denver. Great service, professional barbers, warm atmosphere. Coming from LA we take pride in our barbers and have high expectations. I walked in last minute an hour before close and was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. Sat down, had some great conversation and was out within thirty minutes with an A1 cut. Terrell is an experienced and well rounded barber with high professionalism and great service. I'll be back every two weeks no doubt. read more

James Mulhammad is probably the most disrespectful barber I've encountered in the Denver area. I booked an appointment, and came around to the shop. The staff initially were nice, no complaints. James seems to have quite a god complex. He had his AirPods in, and asked what I wanted for a cut. He then went back to his music, and I didn't have any problem with that. He seemed to forget every detail of the cut. I asked for a hard part, he failed to do that. I asked for a line up of the beard, and he seemed to not understand over his music. He was very abrasive, and made the entire cut uncomfortable. To top it off, it was a sub par cut, and the lines were questionable. I expressed to him at the end my perception, with hopes that the next customer wouldn't feel that way. At that time he took my money, and told me to have a good day without even giving me any change. Then when asked for the change he became extremely aggressive and rude saying, "you're just not used to a person with a personality." His skills weren't up to par with his performance, or let alone his attitude. Save your money man. Go somewhere that you're respected. read more

Stepping in to this spot you'll be amazed at how spacious this place is. They got a lot of barbers holding it down, and the wait is real quick. The place is chill, relax and the conversations are hilarious! Plus they got the kick game on lock in the back. It's everything you would want from a barbershop. I must admit, my experience wasn't as well received I would have hoped. The barber who cut me up didn't remember that I asked for a skin tight taper, and started giving me a reg taper. the taper came out eh at best, I I left with a lot of stray hairs and it just wasn't as clean as I'm use to, I pretty much had to fix it when I got back home which was kind of a bummer. On top of that, the cuts here are $15 but my barber took my $20 and didn't ask me or give me change, not that that was a big deal, but I felt schemed on because I was a first time customer, but hey I might be wrong. Though my hair cut was a fail, don't let my experience scare you away from this spot, I came with a friend, and his barber hooked him up fresh. Hollywood's is off the CHAIN! Seriously! First off, they've been in business for over 80yrs. The Fade Master's at this establishment have been together for 16yrs which say's hell of a lot about it's leadership! They have a shoe shine extraodinare. They have a sneaker shoe shop on the bi-level that will make you pawn your jewelry for a pair! They have a gym that everyone is welcome to use. The only rules they have is no religion and politic's. Everything else is up for grabs. Bring your A game in bones if you dare...I recommend it! And absolutely ridiculous with stylz and designs! They got barbering on LOCK! Details mean everything to me so this place is a perfect fit ya heard! read more

My husband and I have been taking our son here for 2 years now. Xavier, "X" cuts our son's hair. X does a wonderful job and he works fast. X is good at cutting children's hair, he's gentle. If you go on a Friday or Saturday, you may have to wait longer because it's more crowded, but that's typical of most barbers or salons. I can think of only one time in the two years we've been customers that the wait was longer than 15 minutes. I'd recommend Hollywood Barber Shop to anyone! read more

Dudes here are top notch! I returned to this shop today with my son after having a pleasant experience the first time around. This time was a lot different. I went to the same barber but he seemed irritated from the start. I'm sure it didn't help that I didn't know the name of the cut I wanted. I apologized for not explaining it well but, I said, I'm sure whatever you do will be great. I thought being nice would help, but when I hesitated to answer when he asked if I wanted the sides faded he became even more obviously agitated. He said something along the lines of, "Look, the hair cut I gave him before was a shadow fade. Alright?" I stammered a response saying I'm not trying to irritate you, I just really didn't know! He finished my son's hair and like I thought, he did a good job and the cut looks nice. It was only $12, but I'd be willing to pay twice that amount for a mediocre cut and better customer service. read more

Best Barbers in Town! As I read other comments listed. I see people stating they had a lengthy wait time or were overlooked and ignored due to their race ect.. .This barbershop and the Barbers in it are far from racist and welcome anyone regardless of your race. However, these barbers are busy with walk-in's and regular clientele who may have an appointment. This is a very High volume clientele establishment, if you walk in and don't have an appointment, let everyone know you are a walk-in and need a Barber. Otherwise if you just sit down everyone will assume you have an appointment. Every barber is independent and there is no receptionist. So just communicate :) These guys appreciate everyone's business and will work hard to accommodate you. Hopefully this helps everyone understand and have a great experience. read more

Great barber shop across the street from East High. Quick service most of the time (don't go when schools out at East, all the kids chill there). Jason is my barber and he does a great job. They do cater to white people but the first time you walk in if you don't know who you are looking for it is a little like a western movie when that guy walks into the bar who obviously doesn't belong there and everyone sort of stares at him, like "Check out this motherfucker". However, if you are cool they'll quickly warm up to you. The place isn't very nice or stylish and the customer service on the phone is pretty bad, but you're there for a good haircut and that is what you'll get. I would rather go to a less trendy barber and get a great haircut for $15 than go to that hell hole Floyds (read duechey hipster corporate horse shit) across the street where you will pay $20 or more for a haircut that is not very good so you can watch flatscreen tvs and weird shadow dancers on the side of the building and be in with the cool kids whose parents pay their rent and they can afford $30 haircuts. Anyways, I digress but this is a good barbershop at an affordable price and a lot less pretense than the chains. read more

After a horrible experience at a shop up Colfax where I got cut up like a Thanksgiving Turkey on two separate occasions by two different barbers, this shop has revived my belief in legitimate barbers that know how to cut black hair. I was given some tips on how to get rid of the bumps I developed from my last visit to the unnamed shop while getting a tight bald fade which he edged up with a straight edge. I went to this barber after I saw good reviews. I took my teenage son to get a "tapered fade". The barber said they knew exactly what that meant. He had been growing his hair out for 3 years and was super excited to get a cool new hairstyle. .....I blame myself a little because i should have shown a picture of what he wanted. I walked to starbucks while he got his haircut...when I came back my son had NO hair left. He was completely devastated. This has completely ruined his summer and months to come. I think if someone comes in with a HUGE afro the barber should of discussed in detail what my son wanted. Instead of getting a "tapered fade" he is left almost bald. Cut was uneven and nothing like I had requested. The barber seemed sure he could do a simple shave on the side with my length kept on top. He ended up taking off way too much hair and chopped it up into many lengths that looked horrible no matter how you style it. Has to pay another barber just to fix it. Never going back. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I brought my son to this spot because it had decent reviews... We walked in and no one spoke to us. We took a seat and waited about 20 minutes. Finally, a guy came over and asked if we wanted a cut, so I said yeah and he said he would take us. Right as we stood up some guy walked in the door, who was apparently his boy, so he said, "Sorry, I'm gonna cut him first." We should've left then but my son really needed a cut so we waited 10 more minutes. Some more barbers became available but instead of making some money they all went out to smoke. I finally gave up and walked out. I'm not sure if they didn't want to help us because I am white and my son is mixed or if they are just assholes but either way I would not recommend this place to anyone. I feel terrible that I put my son through that and he just kept asking why we were leaving and why he couldn't get a hair cut. I just moved to Denver from Michigan and these guys really made me think poorly of the men in Denver! read more
