I can't begin to count how many times I've come to this course during their posted driving range…read morehours, only to be told that the range is closing early, or already closed. On multiple occasions this has happened well over two hours before the hours listed online and on the sign at the front door which clearly says "driving range closes at 4pm". It's incredibly frustrating to drive 20 minutes one way expecting the range to be open, only to find out otherwise. The lack of consistency is disappointing and reflects poor customer service. If hours are going to change regularly, they need to be updated accurately so customers aren't wasting their time.

Played Avalon this weekend. Had really nice weather for the first week of October. The course is in…read moregood shape. They have 27 holes and we played the North & South nines. Course is nothing fancy and it's pretty short (I want to say 2,700-2,800 yards from the whites for each of the nines we played). The beverage cart came through five or six times, which is probably the most I've ever experienced. The beers were cheap - $2 for a 12 oz Rainier and $4 for a 12 oz Bodhizafa. I used my prepaid round through the Around the Sound golf pass, so I don't know what the green fees are. The staff we encountered were all friendly - pro shop, starter, beverage cart, marshal. One thing I really liked was that they had a "warm up" bucket for the driving range. For most courses, the smallest bucket has 40-50 balls, but the "warm up" bucket had about 20, which is perfect if I want to shake off the morning rust. I don't need to hit fifty balls before my round, so it was nice to not have to pay for a larger bucket. It's definitely a course I'd play again if I were in the area.

For the drive to Camano Island I would expect more organization as a golf course. The Rockaway is the part that elevates this course. The lack of cart management and starter brings this place down a little in my opinion. The greens are ok a lot of clover around everywhere which means this place is not super well taken care of. I expected more for how everyone talks this place up. Rockway is awesome but the carts have no cooler so they have to offer you a bucket of ice. What am I in Mexico? Get with the times with what you are charging. The driving range is kind of beat down. This place is not a dog track but its not stellar.

The holes are not particularly challenging, but it's fun. Several hazards, including marshy areas and grass clippings where the ball just disappears. The most remarkable thing about the San Juan golf and country club is the customer service. I had left a sweatshirt in the back of a golf cart I called them two days later when I discovered it missing. I played 18 holes with friends today, and it's in good shape. The greens are meticulously cared for, and the fairways are nicely maintained. We stayed for lunch at the Sand Trap, and the service was outstanding. The food was hot, and the drinks were cold. We will be back!

Too bad, as it was fun threading your ball through a tight course with many hazards, teeing off buckboards and pirate ship decking. A loss for us all.

Little did I know how much of a hassle it is to get to this place. My grandson said it would be a day trip, it was not. He lied. It was some sort of college reunion where they played alcohol games. I only played the beer pong, but Chris was was playing Mario kart. We ended up staying two nights. I didn't bring my nightgown, but my grandson packed for me. Such a sweetie pie. Anyways, The only reason for this places existence is to firmly establish the bottom of a barrel. But when you're stuck on an island, and there is only one golf course, you don't have many options. WE HAVE TO GO BACK. (lost). When you first drive up and pull into the "parking lot" you have no idea you're at a golf course. Imagine my surprise when I was told I was going to golf, and we have to park next to what's called a "driving range". Didn't see too many cars "driving" the range. This place uses the honor system where you have to pay $10 a golfer. Luckily for all 6 of us, none of us had cash. So we didn't have to pay. +1 thrift point as RAYMOND SAYs. Call me old fashioned, but I lived during the Cold War. Don't challenge me. Most golf places don't have any clubs. This places had at least 100 abandoned golf clubs. Danny, my "matest with the greatest" picked up one of these bags. However, somewhere between the 2nd and 9th hole he got dunk, and wandered off. We found him passed out on the fairway of the 9th hole. Nice boy. This place DOES NOT have golf carts. So we had to drive our truck ON THE COURSE to get from hole to hole. Of course, I drive the jeep. Just like Johnny Tsunami in the series pilot. Grandkids LOVED that shower. Probably my least favorite grandson, Chris made a good point. If there is no are no beer carts driving around then you are free to shot gun beers at every green. Grandma hadn't shotgun beers in over 2 weeks, but live like a Roman horse with an arrow in your buttocks. No bathrooms on course. It was embarrassing, but I had to pop a squat behind a rose bush on the 6th hole. I though I was hidden but I was not. I showed off my 80 year old booty to some (what I assume was ) a peeing Tom. Eric was very mad at everybody. Garrett (G$) says Eric was born mad at the world because he was born with two right feet. But as soon as he whacked a 220 yard dinger dinger off a tree onto the green (completely bypassing the fairway) it more than made up for his bad feet. Greens were in decent shape. Buckets next to where you begin driving were overflowing with garbage. Let's get this garbage off this course and into the landfills. Same can be said for those dumpers in Washington. Came out to play on a Saturday and I have to say it is a pretty nice course (at least the 11 holes…read morewe played). Got through front 9 in about 2.5 hours but really started to slow on last couple holes. We made the turn and it turned excruciatingly slow as it took us 45 minutes to play just 2 holes (10 & 11). Had we stayed, it likely would have been well over 3 hours to finish the back 9. There was a tournament in front of us and we saw the marshall at least 3 times but there was absolutely no impact on the pace of play. It was a complete waste of $93!!! Played Sunland the day before ($69 for 18 holes and cart) and much better experience. Not as nice of a course as Dungeness but at least pace of play was manageable and was still a pretty nice course. We had a drink and snack in the bar (I think it was called Stymies) and we enjoyed ourselves. The appetizers were very good (wings and steamers) and my only advice is get extra bread with steamers as the clam broth was very, very good. Cold beer, good drinks and good view of both UofW football game and Ryder Cup golf. Stymies would actually get a much higher rating from our group but since this is a review of Dungeness GC and Stymies, the golf experience really dragged it down. Regretted paying so much and only playing 11 holes but the pace was absolutely one of the worst I've ever experienced.
