Capt Max and crew were very kind and helpful to everyone on our sunset cruise. During booking, I mentioned that I was gluten free, and the crew made sure I was aware which menu items were gluten free. They also made restaurant recommendations for gluten free food on the island. My kids LOVED the trip on the catamaran, and we enjoyed hearing which movies filmed at different locations along the coast. The champagne toast during sunset was a nice touch at the end of a beautiful sail! Also, be prepared to get very wet if you sit anywhere on the bow and bring towels to stay warm on the sail back to port. It was an epic trip that we will talk about for years to come.
Went on a sunset tour to see the Na Pali coast. It was pretty crazy getting out there. Bumpy and so fun. We were served snacks, dinner and drinks. I would do it again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the Nepali coast. Sure, it was a little rough, but we didn't lose anybody overboard! The sun, the wind, the sea spray in your face, it's all so fabulous! Two people proposed on the trip. The sunset was incredible. I almost want to make the 11 mile hike to one of those beaches. The captain and the crew were outstanding. Anything you could want, if they could give it to you, they did. They kept the bathrooms clean and they kept the drinks flowing. Nothing but good things to say about this charter company!
$350 7 hour Niihau + Napali Super Tour: I was hesitant about booking because of cost, length of time, and motion sickness. However, I took the leap of faith and it turned out to be worth it! THIS BEING SAID - I would NOT go on this tour if you are susceptible to motion sickness. It will get really rocky. I took a preventative Dramamine even though I've been on boats before. They're very organized and give these tours daily. I felt very safe. They called us to confirm the day before and sent a list of things to bring like sunscreen - don't forget to wear clothes and a rain jacket that can get FULLY soaked if you want to sit out front. Bring an inflatable waterproof phone case with a lanyard too for photos. At 6 am, you'll have a briefing by the captain and he warned us that we could cancel with a full refund. Most of us accepted the challenge. There's 1 captain and 3 friendly crew members. You can sit inside a covered section, outside at the back of the boat, or at a small section at the very front of the boat (the splash zone). At times you can also stand up but the number one rule is HOLD ON! One concern I had is that there was a small child on board but she wasn't required to wear a life jacket. This was odd to me coming from the mainland US where children are required to wear life jackets at sea. I decided to sit in front for most of the tour. The way over to Niihau was relatively smooth - like being on a speed boat - but you could stand up if holding on. It took an about an hour. They played relaxing tropical music. We didn't see wildlife on the way there but being out on the water was a joy. They served a modest breakfast with eggs, pastries, and fruit. Coffee was available. Once we got close to Niihau the captain told us the history and then we made our way to the crater to find a snorkel spot. It got more rocky on the way there. One of the crew members jumped in first to make sure the water was safe and we saw a manta ray. Once we dove in, the snorkeling was awesome! The visibility was great and we saw lots of fish. I even saw a reef shark and a monk seal. We snorkeled for an hour until 9:30 am. It gets chilly in the water so they had a warm fresh water hose to spray down before drying off. Please note: snorkeling is never a guarantee and depends on weather. If we didn't get to snorkel, I would've expected a partial refund since that contributes to the value. We crossed the channel again to head to Napali coast. This was the rockiest ride of my life. I sat in the front and it was like riding a water ride at an amusement park for about 1.5 hr. The swells were 3-5 feet coming from different directions so they'd combine to be even larger swells. Sometimes the front of the boat wasn't even touching the water. But I was having an absolute blast!! We were getting sprayed and splashed almost constantly, but it was such a rush. They told us that if we wanted to move to the back, we would need to wave our hands for them to slow the boat down. This happened a few times. After that wild ride, it started to get old and I desperately desired calm waters. We stopped to see some dolphins sleeping and that's when I made my move to get my sunscreen and rain jacket. It gets very cold in addition to being soaking wet up front. My biggest mistake was not wearing the rain jacket and not reapplying sunscreen post snorkel because the hour ride back burned us (literally) pretty bad. Then we made it to the beautiful coast of Napali, which was genuinely stunning. I was feeling a little gross from inhaling so much salt water so I enjoyed the slower cruise. However it was still pretty rocky at times. They have plenty of photo ops both at the crater and the Napali coast and will take photos for you. They also provide unlimited drinks with an ample selection of non-alcoholic beverages (alcohol post snorkel). I stuck to sparkling water and wouldn't recommend drinking alcohol on these rocky waves unless you have a strong stomach. They served lunch which was deli sandwiches, pasta salad, and a veggie tray. I'd suggest some bags of chips or dessert as well since it was a pretty modest lunch. I got to lounge in the sun on their front deck tarp when the boat was going slow but then I spent the rest of the time inside. They have 2 bathrooms and sea sickness buckets. It's also important to note that you can always see one of the islands when out at sea, which makes it feel less like you're in the middle of the ocean - if you're nervous about that. While I think the same experience could've cost less I still feel it was worth it - it's only $50 an hour for an experience you wouldn't otherwise able to have in Kauai. Thanks so much Holo Holo and to our crew for transporting us safely and making it a fun last day in Kauai!
I struggle to write this review because in all honesty, my partner and I had a wonderful time sailing along the Napali Coast and watching the beautiful sunset on the ocean. However, upon reflection, a large portion of the experience can be credited to 1) the beautiful weather we had 2) the natural scenery. Any boat could've taken us and I think we would've had an equally amazing experience. Now for the things that Holo Holo did well: 1. Safety (felt very safe on the whole ride despite 8-10ft swells) 2. The staff (they were all very nice and friendly) 3. Stopped for whale watching multiple times, which I appreciated. This broke up the choppy ride towards the coast and allowed us a break to watch so many whales dive/breech/etc. The main negatives: 1. I do feel like the captain/Holo Holo's policy should have been way more transparent to passengers on what "rough ocean conditions" actually mean. I understand that they give the option to everyone after the "captain briefing" to cancel for a full refund or reschedule. However, they need to provide a better idea to passengers on what "8-10ft swells" can actually do to someone. The captain never said, for example, "if you are prone to motion sickness of any kind, I highly recommend you take the appropriate medication or reconsider taking the tour because it will be rough and you may be miserable the whole ride/be throwing up." You can't tell the whole group "we expect 8-10 foot swells...if that doesn't sound good to you, you can cancel/reschedule..."--that's lying by omission in my opinion. What ended up happening was the 8-10 foot swells made 1/3 of our boat miserable and nauseous for 90% of the 4 hour ride. 5 people out of ~30 threw up aggressively multiple times. It was a horrible sight to watch. I'm not speaking on behalf of myself and my partner since we're both adventurous and do not get motion sickness. HOWEVER, it is NOT a positive experience to watch people suffering all around you for the entire boat ride. We chose to look the other way (literally and figuratively) multiple times and felt bad about it. There were some people who were so sick that they never even left the cabin area to look outside. I felt so bad for them. 2. The food. For $500 for two, I'd say expect better food. It was the most bland and unpalatable food I've had in a long time. Chicken teriyaki was as tough as rubber and drowning in a watery bed of cabbage. Rice was overcooked and dry. Only the leafy green salad was palatable. Brownie dessert was dry and overly sweet. I probably had a bite and tossed it. The pre-dinner snacks were better than the actual dinner in my opinion. Further, it would've been nice for the captain to slow the boat down for 10-20 mins for people to get food and eat. Going full throttle while people are either lining up, trying to fill their plates, running to throw up, or trying to find a decent seat does not make for a peaceful dining experience. I got my food and half of it flew off into the ocean before I could eat it due to the wind/choppiness of the water. 3. The time spent at the Napali Coast was too short. We probably spent 10-15 minutes actually paused/slow cruising around the cliffs. I didn't think that was enough time to take everything in and for everyone to get pictures. Maybe it was due to the conditions for today, but it did feel short. All things considered, my boyfriend and I personally had a 9/10 experience. However, I don't think half of our boat could say the same. Next time, I'd probably book with a cheaper company since I did not feel like the high price tag justified the basic positives that occurred on our tour.
Great experience for the price! We went on an adventure with them yesterday, and it was absolutely amazing. The water in the gulf was calm, and we were lucky enough to see several pods of dolphins -- a pretty rare sight. Jess was a fantastic captain, guiding us through the trip with stories and insights almost the entire way. During snorkeling in the crater, we even spotted two reef sharks and some monk seals underwater.

We went winter time for the sunset cruise. If you decide to go then, BE READY! The water was rough, and the waves were big. Some people got sick, but it was a fun ride. The guides were correct when warning us of things that would make us seasick. The water was calmer near the coast, so we got some good pictures. The sunset was beautiful!
The views were amazing, however it was only 1 spot of snorkeling for appx 1 hr for a 7 hour day. Was able to see rare turtle, monk seals and a Manta Ray. Good food, friendly staff, only 1 bathroom for 50 passengers
This is an excellent boat cruise, but unless you have sea legs, I don't recommend it. The tour itself is over five hours long and the waves can be incredibly choppy. Multiple people vomited on our boat. But, if the sea is for you and you don't get seasick, this is an absolutely beautiful and breathtaking tour of the coast. The captain Mike was a really nice guy and drove the boat safely. He went over all the safety recommendations before we left and even gave people an opportunity to get a full refund - because it was so choppy - and not come on the tour. We of course still went - because we love boats. The drinks were plentiful, and we enjoyed the service from all of the crew members. They were a little bit too chatty, and I recommend just moving to a place where you cannot listen if you don't like to talk to anyone while cruising. The catamaran has trampolines you can lay on, but you will get wet. The boat does allow young children and teenagers, so just be aware if you were looking for a romantic catamaran ride this is not it. I would absolutely do this tour again. You guys have done a great job and the food was delicious. The only recommendation I would have is that when people throw up that you clean the railings immediately- because each of those people who vomited got puke all over the railings and their hands and then touched everything and that was gross. Not your fault, people are just disgusting.
Had a wonderful outing doing Holo Holo's super tour! As a tourist, this was the perfect tourist activity. Holo Holo took me to places I couldn't access on my own. The staff was very friendly/helpful, the boat had all the conveniences needed, and the entire process was very easy from booking to parking. The scenery was epic, loved getting to go in the water. There is potential for seasickness because you're truly out in the ocean but I felt safe the entire voyage as Holo Holo was a very professional operation. No regrets, would 100% do it again.

My wife and I loved this sunset dinner cruise so much we decided to take it again two years later on a return trip to Kauai. Lucky us we got the same captain and crew. Glen and company are amazing, definitely the best company and Na'Pali dinner cruise line! We can't recommend them highly enough. Start to finish it's top notch service. As returning guests we got free t-shirts from the gift shop, and souvenir cups. The appetizers, dinner and dessert are all well done and the on board staff does a grab job running around serving all the guests and keeping things running smooth. Well done HoloHolo Charters! THIS IS THE COMPANY TO USE - ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE AND SERVICE!!! Our large family participated in the 7-hour catamaran trip up the gorgeous Napali Coast and across the channel to snorkel at the beautiful Lehua Crater. The scenery was beautiful, and we were so fortunate to have perfect weather and to see a few endangered Monk Seals, a large pod of Spinner Dolphins, and a few sea turtles! I even added several birds to my lifetime list! The boat was clean and well-maintained. Breakfast and lunch were served on board and a variety of beverages were available upon request. One detail I appreciated was the use of stainless steel cups for drinking water, rather than one-time-use plastic bottles. There was plenty of seating (some inside out of the wind and sun, some outside). There were two heads (bathrooms) on board. They even provided sunscreen, if needed. Most importantly, the CREW WAS SIMPLY OUTSTANDING! Captain Cole was very knowledgeable about the route and the area, sharing fascinating history, geology, biology, and ecology knowledge along the way. The deck crew, Zoey, Alec and Matt (sorry for any misspellings!) were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! They were genuinely welcoming, friendly, and incredibly attentive to every little detail. They immediately responded to passenger needs and wants, and provided outstanding service throughout the entire trip. They even took time to get to know many of the passengers. They were all incredibly supportive of my 80 year old mother-in-law, helping her safely navigate around the boat to see the sights, showing her utmost respect by referring to her as "Auntie", helping her through the entire process of snorkeling at Lehua (helping her on and off the boat, ensuring she felt safe and comfortable in the water, pointing out fish, helping her back onto the boat, etc.), and generally ensuring she was comfortable and happy. They managed to do this all while taking care of the other 40 passengers, including me. As for me, after a couple of hours of enjoying time on the bow soaking in the salt spray and beautiful coastline views, my body decided I needed to experience full-blown seasickness for the remainder of the trip (I've been sailing and boating many, many times in a variety of settings and have never once been seasick!). I simply can't express the depth of my gratitude to the crew for their attentiveness and support - bringing water and paper towels, offering peppermint oil (applied to the back of the hand) and ginger chews to ease the nausea, ensuring I had a seat in the back of the boat near the aft rail for urgent needs (it takes a special kind of person to hold someone's hair back or hold on to them in choppy water while they are busy leaning over the aft rail), and checking in frequently in between to ensure I was holding up alright. My sincere apologies to all of the other passengers and the crew for being the one person aboard who got sick - no one enjoys being around that, and I am truly sorry. If you are prone to motion sickness (which I am not) or seasickness (which I wasn't before), plan accordingly. Overall, it was a truly amazing experience and I would absolutely and without a doubt sail with this crew again (with plenty of Dramamine and maybe a shorter trip - LOL). THANK YOU!!! read more

My boyfriend and I had the best time on the Napali Snorkel Sail on 4/15! Captain Jess and her crew were communicative, extremely kind, accommodating and very knowledgeable. The sights up the coast were breathtaking. Along the route and while snorkeling (for about 45mins) we got to see spinner dolphins that came right up to the boat, several turtles and plenty of beautiful fish. The breakfast and lunch were simple, yet filling and pretty tasty. We also indulged with the adult beverages as well. This is definitely an adventurous ride that can be rocky at times - several people on our ride got seasick, but the crew were swift with assisting. We even had enough wind to put up the sail at one point. We had an absolutely incredible time and would definitely do this again!! read more

We were looking for a Catamaran ride for the Napali Coast and found that Holo Holo Charters had very good reviews. We signed up on line which was very easy as well as the check in process when we arrived. Captain Ian and the deck crew Nicole and Keheko were very nice and helpful and fully expressed that safety was the main concern for their guests as they went through the do's and don'ts while on the catamaran. Nicole and Keheko were very nice and always willing to help whether to take photos for passengers, to getting refreshments or cleaning up after the breakfast or lunch that was served. On the way to our snorkeling spot we were able to see pods of spinning dolphins. The snorkeling spot itself was awesome, we got videos under water of Sea Turtles and other sea life. All in all I thought this was a very fun cruise and would do it again. read more

Let me start by saying we are currently on Maui and there are tons of sunset cruises here in Kaanapali that pull up to the beach. We had three crew members on our boat in Kauai on July 4th. Here in Kaanapali they have 5-6 crew members with the same amount of people on the boat. These guys at Holoholo are workers! Not only did we have a great time, but the food and drinks were great too. Everyone on the boat seemed to be having a great time. The views were epic and the rough waters getting out there were a blast to ride through. The captain and crew handled the boat and passengers professionally. We saw spinner dolphins up close too which was an added bonus. I recommend it to anyone, BUT take some meds if you get sea sick because it can get a little bumpy. Made some new friends, took amazing photos and had a great ride. If youre looking for the same, book here Mahalo for the fun time on our anniversary! read more

OMG!!! The super trip to Niihau and Nepali coast was a SPECTACULAR highlight of our trip to Kauai. The high-speed catamaran itself was a thrilling ride. The swing around Niihau to inside the flooded crater of an ancient volcano Lehua was incredible. Spinner dolphins greeted us. Alongside Lihau, we had the opportunity to jump into the water and suddenly we were in the underwater scene from Finding Nemo-a 250-ft underwater cliff and reef. The water was a vibrant blue shade I have never seen before, highlighted by hundreds of electric-colored fish in yellows, blues, whites. The manta ray swam by, followed by seals playing deep underwater. A green sea turtle made a welcome swim-by. My mind was on fire from the visuals. From there we headed back to Kauai and an epic trip along the Nepali coast. Our catamaran weaved through humpback whales, breaching, waving just feet off the boat. The coast itself was nature at its most dramatic and sublime. This is the stuff you travel halfway around the world to see with your own eyes--luscious green 3,000-ft cliffs thrust upwards from the sea. It's the Garden of Eden gone vertical, with incredible valleys and water caves that we crept around, trying not to disturb Mother Nature's magnificent masterpiece. The light mist enveloped us like a sheer veil, teasing us to the gorgeous views inside. Enchanting! Gorgeous! Words cannot describe this trip on Holo Holo Charters. It's why we traveled so far to experience a trip of a lifetime. And the food was pretty good too. read more

EPIC 7 hour boating/snorkeling tour of the NaPali coast, Ni'ihau and Lehua Crater! May 9th AM departure. We had perfect conditions on the ocean (flat or no waves) and sunshine all morning till around 1pm (of which we missed anyways). We took Dramamine 1 hour before getting on the boat so just in case, then another one 6 hours later. No motion sickness AT ALL . I recommend bringing a waterproof phone case holder. Our captain (forgot his name), Rob? and that one girl I'm sorry can't remember her name either - Zoey? The crew was awesome, friendly and knowledgeable. The breakfast was fresh fruit, coffee, juice, these yummy jelly stuffed croissants and scramble eggs. The lunch was bread and turkey/cheeses with condiments. They offered alcoholic drinks, soda and juice for lunch after snorkeling. Snorkeling on the other side of Lehua crater was mediocre. Not much reef life or color and the current was strong so it was difficult to dive down or stay put in the water. We saw a monk seal basking on the rock at Lehua, sea birds and dozens of jumping dolphins! It was amazing! read more

Do this tour! So worth it! Up early on Sunday and checked in at the Holoholo office. You'll be asked to complete Covid and other information on line prior to your scheduled tour. There were about 50-75 of us on the morning journey out to the Na Pali coast/Niihau snorkel tour. Boarded the catamaran and headed out to Sea. A breakfast of eggs and veggies, guava pastry and fresh fruit were served. Drinks provided at no charge throughout the tour. Lunch was also provided after snorkeling--a make your own sandwich and pasta salad bar. Adult beverages were provided with lunch-all you can eat and drink. Our first stop took us along the Na Pali coast to view the absolutely breathtaking mountains. Photos just don't capture the beauty and majesty of this mountain range. Surprised to see beaches and hidden valleys out this way, former site of the Jurassic world movie shoots. Yes you can also hike out to the beaches-with a permit I believe. On the way to snorkel...we saw dolphins all around our boat, so many! Babies alongside their mothers and loving our admiration! Then off to Niihau for our snorkel adventure! We had about an hour to explore along a shelf that fell into a deep chasm next to a coral laden plateau. So many tropical fish AND we saw a five foot tiger shark swimming lazily below us.....a monk seal whizzing past and a manta ray. Doin' their thing on a lazy Sunday morning and totally uninterested in the humans swimming above them. The tour provides fins, masks and snorkels including prescription masks! reef friendly sunscreen and noodles to help you float....No judgement! You can also bring your own gear. Everyone on the tour was fun and the staff on Captain Christian's boat was professional, made your safety a #1 priority and took the time to chat with you. From booking to boarding till 7 hours later, it was smooth sailing. Excellent adventure:-)! read more

Giving this tour a 5 star review even though we weren't able to visit the island of Ni'ihau. Holo Holo Charters had FANTASTIC service and was very thoughtful of the customer/tourist. Waves were pretty choppy and people were getting sea sick, so the captain decided against going to Ni'ihau (as it would have been even rougher waters). Because of this, we were partially refunded which was super nice considering the captain let us snorkel for over an hour AND took us even further up the coast. Food was way better than what I was expecting so that was great. They provided reef-safe sunscreen if you forgot to bring it. Check in was super quick and easy as well. Very awesome experience and would recommend in the future! read more

We had a blast! The crew is fantastic! I've been on boat tours before whale watching but not gonna lie, was a little intimidated as we headed out to sea on the vast Pacific Ocean. The crew puts you at ease, has seen and dealt with it all, including puking people, so we were totally comfortable. We took the Napali Coast Sunset Tour (4 hours), which on the way out to the Napali Coast can seem a little long but the crew took care to get to know the passengers, engage with us, tell funny stories, and make sure we always had a drink. The views are STUNNING! The food served was surprisingly good (great catering). We had a champagne toast at sunset right before pulling back into dock. Overall could not have been happier with the entire experience and hope to see the crew again! (Captain Max and team!) Some info to manage your expectations. 4 hours can be a long time on a boat. Sit back, relax and enjoy. You will get wet. Bring a towel. You will be sweltering hot on your way out (swimsuits appropriate) and you could get cold on the way back as the sun drops, so pack accordingly. read more

We had a phenomenal time with Captain Kelly from start to finish. The crew was amazing and Kevin did an excellent job explaining the history of Kauai and the surrounding area. We went snorkeling in a calm water cove area. Rode the slide into the water. So fun. We were served a continental breakfast and cold cut sandwiches for lunch. Tasted delicious. There was plenty of space to walk around. Waters were pretty calm. Such a magical day and getting up close to the Napali Coastline. Will definitely do it again. read more

This is our second yr in a row chartering with holoholo.and it's beyond amazing the service ..the staff the captain...the complete snorkeling tour to the forbidden island of Niihau and Seeing the keyhole of Lehauand the whales .the spinner dolphins the seals and tropical fish everywhere..what a great day. Then end it by touring up the NA'POLI COAST...everyone should have a chance to experience this at least once in their life..the seas this year were rougher than last year but the captain..damn I forgot his name my apologies but I forget mine too..did a great job navigating the rough open seas between islands....awesome ..I'm hoping to mk it 3yrs in row next year..thankyou !!!,to the crew for another great charter..if yr prone to get seasick n it's a windy day..take precautions for sure or reschedule if you can..I'm lucky it doesn't affect me..my daughters..well different story .wear sunscreen n a hat or you'll fry or go inside on the way back to harbor..lunch was great too..the booze I don't know as I didn't partake..no need too..can't get much higher on life than right here...no drugs needed..maybe that's what some of the clowns were chummun off back of boat idk read more

Does it get pretty chilly on the Na'Pali coast your in December/January?
It absolutely can! Cool and cold are relative, but Hawaiʻi can experience a great fluctuation in temperatures (especially during the winter months).…
Do you recommend taking a motion sickness medication before this trip?
Yes if you are prone to motion sickness. Also sticking towards the back of the catamaran helps. I did both and had no troubles.
What do you all recommend to wear for the sunset dinner cruise?
Nothing onboard the cruise is fancy. Wear whatever you are comfortable in as long as it is respectful of the other passengers.
Are children (at what age) permitted on the Sunset Cruise? We will have a 12 month old with us and are interested in this excursion after a friend's rave review.
I believe that children 5 and older are allowed. The waters are rough and the solo little boy on our Sunset Cruise got sick. I would make childcare arrangements for the little if you can! Best of luck and have fun!
