I have been on quite a few charter boats.. in the Caribbean or the east coast of the US. I have to say, Holo Holo has beat all of my past experiences by a mile. I don't give five stars often but I would give 6 stars if possible. The Captain and the crew were amazing. Every time you had an empty drink, had a question of a landmark or wanted a picture taken of you they were right there to take care of you. Very knowledgeable of the Na Pali coast and the sea life in the area. The weather could have been better as it rained as we hit the coast but the Captain should us everything he could and then showed us some whales and spinner dolphins and turtles and seals to fill out the time.... all while making sure you had a Mai Tai in your hand and and a belly filled with fish tacos. Will definitely be back next time we re in Kauai. read more

The Na Pali Coast is stunning and was a highlight of our trip. We did the "snorkel sail." There was no snorkeling because the water was too rough and the sail was about 30 minutes of the 5 hour trip. Overall, I still enjoyed the trip and recommend it. Also, I liked that the crew did a great job and didn't explicitly ask for tips. The good: -amazing coastline -the crew was knowledgeable and friendly without being over the top -the boat and crew handled the waves well -lunch was good (cold cuts, bread, veggies) -we saw spinner dolphins and turtles (which were everywhere during our visit) the not-as-good: -the water was rough so if you're hoping to go on the cruise to take a ton of pictures, you'll be disappointed. it's wet and rough and the photos i took when they finally cut the engine have little water droplets on the lens :( -breakfast was mediocre. i know you don't go on a trip like this for the food but i'll mention it anyway. breakfast was cinnamon rolls (very good) "bagels" (just bagel shaped bread rolls but totally edible) and some good cut fruit that was almost completely gone by the time I got to it. the coffee was not good. -I was disappointed that we didn't get to snorkel. I understand that the crew doesn't control the weather but I do wonder how common this is. If it was clear to the crew that we wouldn't be able to snorkel it would have been nice to hear that upfront and have the option of re-scheduling. Or, since in the end, we didn't get to snorkel, it would be nice to be offered *something*, a discount on a later trip maybe. I did enjoy the trip overall but for a "snorkel sail" it wasn't what I was expecting. I went in early May and thought I might see whales but didn't. I'd recommend a rain coat. read more

My husband and I took the morning cruise on December 31. Just before we boarded the boat, it started pouring rain. Luckily, we were first to board and got covered seats. There weren't enough covered seats for everyone, so some people had to stand for about 20 minutes until we got around to the drier side of the island and the rain stopped. Once the rain stopped, it was gorgeous, sunny, and everyone seemed to enjoy the cruise. Due to all the rain, we didn't get to go snorkeling because it wasn't safe. I was definitely OK with this because we still got to see a humpback whale, about 30-40 spinner dolphins, and several large green turtles. Since I am prone to sea sickness, I took dramamine that morning. I certainly thought the ride was going to be very choppy during the rain. Kudos to the captain and his smooth sailing and possibly to the dramamine - I did not feel sea sick for one moment. And with all the bad weather we had on the cruise, only one woman tossed her cookies. Also, I loved the 2 clean bathrooms, the delicious breakfast and deli lunch spread, and the beer and wine. I would definitely recommend Holo Holo. read more

Buyer Beware. Holo Holo will cancel if they don't met a minimum. Left us high and dry. They should state that clearly. They don't advertise very much so cancellations seem frequent. We were cancelled on a Sunday and their Monday cruise seemed pretty light too. Have decide tog o with a competitor as opposed to continuing to waste time with them. Fortunately we did not book on our last day on the island with them. read more

All I can say to anyone in currently traveling in Hawaii is to please take a boat ride here. it is worth every penny! the view of the Napali coast is amazing. We took the snorkle Super Tour to Niihau and Na Pali coast in Kauai....it was absolutely amazing!!! From the captain and crew, the food, the sites, the snorkeling to the whales, dolphins, monk seal and turtles that they made sure we saw....it was all amazing!! Will definitley do this again with Holo Holo Charters and would totally recommended it to anyone visiting Kauai! read more

We went on the forbidden island snorkel tour, the 7 hour one, on 4/2 and had a great time. Before we left the captain did let us know there was a chance, due to weather and wave conditions that we may not be able to snorkel near the island, and gave everyone the chance to reschedule if desired. We decided to take our chances since we already had gotten up at 4am. The boat ride to the Napalli coast would probably be considered a bit rough to some people, but we enjoyed the ride as it felt like a roller coaster. We were able to see bottlenose and spinner dolphins as well as whales on the ride up the coast, and whenever anything was spotted the captain would stop the boat for photos. Then the captain let us know that we were going to be able to snorkel near the isłand, and it was so worth it. The underwater cliff that we were snorkeling near was incredible. A shark was spotted as well as numerous fish ( too many to list) Then as we were finishing up lunch a Monk seal decided to swim the boat and take a look at us. A rare treat indeed. The captain and crew have to be commended for the fantastic job they did, from answering questions, to offering to take photos of the groups, to their great personalities, and awesome service. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to have fun read more

We did the 5 hour Snorkel Sail with Holo Holo. We originally had schedule our tour for a Saturday, but upon check-in the Captain had to deliver us the unfortunate news of the tour being canceled due to weather (we actually appreciate them making that call for safety). Let this be a lesson: book these tours early in your visit so that you can reschedule for a later day! They have us the option of a refund or rescheduling. Fortunately, we had a few days left in our vacation and we rebooked for a couple days later. Captain Cole, David, and Max were our crew and all of them were great hosts, and provided lots of interesting information on the scenery and wildlife. Unfortunately, the waters were too rough and murky from recent storms to do any snorkeling, but Captain Cole took us all the way up the Napali Coast and we had plenty to see. We saw lots of dolphins, even the famous albino dolphin! On our way back towards port, we were cruising along when a humpback whale suddenly breached 20 feet from the boat! We were able to watch a three or four humpbacks breach and compete with one another. If you're prone to motion sickness, or are not sure, take some Dramamine/preventatives beforehand, even if the waters look calm from shore. We had 9-10 foot swells, and at least a few people were hanging off the back of the boat to vomit. Take something so you can enjoy the trip! read more

Captain Kelly and her crew were amazing! Max had so much information about everything. They had the equipment we needed, including masks with corrective lenses. The crew made the entire trip honestly. Snorkeling was a side activity. We felt safe in the water and on the boat. It was relaxing. They had great beer and drinks. The food was also good, amazingly enough. While having kids is OK on the boat, I'd recommend to leave them at home for this, unless they are fearless or don't get sick. It was more of an adult vibe, which I totally loved!! I will book here again for sure. We did run into a turtle that had a plastic bottle and string wrapped around him. The crew got into the water to try to help him. We were unsuccessful. The capt did call it in and said because it was hanging out in the harbor, there's a good chance they will find it and be able to help it. These guys really care about their jobs and they want to give everyone a great experience. If you think you'll get nauseous, make sure to take some dramamine. Just to be safe!!! And do follow the instructions by the crew. They have great tips for having an enjoyable experience. read more

What an amazing time!!! We did the Napali Ni'ihau Super tour with Captain Drew, and crew members: Jess, and Kama - they were wonderful, attentive, and fun hosts. Our tour started with a beautiful spin around the Napali coast with lots of time to take pictures that I will cherish for a lifetime. Plenty of time to watch the dolphins, and we even saw a few turtles. Where we stopped to snorkel we got to see a monk seal that decided to check us out in addition to so many colorful fish. 10 years ago we used Holoholo for a full day snorkel tour and had a great time. We recently returned and decided to do the sunset cruise. What an awesome experience. This trip we were able to see more of the Na Pali Coast and even got up close to get soaked by a waterfall!!!! The captain was awesome and the crew very friendly. Unbelievably disappointing!!! We were so excited to go on this trip and booked only to be told that they would not accommodate our 7 year old little boy that 's in a wheelchair. Every other company on the island was prepared to make the necessary adjustments for him to ride, but Holo Holo absolutely refused. UNBELIEVABLE that in times today that a company is so unwilling to make the dreams of a little boy that wants to go on a boat ride possible. Please say no to HOLO HOLO and make a staement...please exercise your right to choose one of several other companies, including Captain Andy, Blue Dolphin, and on and on ... so that Holo Holo will make the necessary adjustments to accommodate those who are not as physically able as others. It broke our hearts that we had to cancel our excursion the day before we were scheduled to depart. read more

We took the Napali Sunset Cruise with Captain Willard and it was awesome! It was a difficult decision between the longer day trips with snorkeling, but we thought the sunset trip would be better for us since we were not thrilled with the idea of a boat full of kids. (vacation for me and my boyfriend). The trip was about 3.5 hours and a smooth ride. We even saw spinner dolphins, turtles and flying fish! Our captain pulled the boat into a couple of caves and under a waterfall to give us a better look at the gorgeous coastline. Our crew, Sean and Mark were really attentive and gave great service! They served drinks throughout the trip and also a casual yet delicious dinner, offering their photography services all afternoon. They seemed really excited to be there not like they were bored from doing this every single day. My favorite part was pulling back to the harbor at sunset and having a champagne toast. Spend your money wisely, go with these guys. I still feel goose bumps in a good way when I think about the trip to Na'Pali coast and snorkeling at the birds' rock right next to the Forbidden island. We took a 7-hour tour in the beginning of November. Be prepared before purchasing it that you know how to get there and that you have to be there at 6am. Our captain was Wendell and his crew guys were Jake and Jim. These people made the trip even more fun and very importantly safe. Jim told us lots of stories about the Forbidden Island. He also told me to start breathing again and relax when I jumped into the water like an elephant. I'm not sure how elephants would do it but I imagine somewhat similar to my helpless motions. When we stopped at the snorkeling place, Jake tied the boat to the bottom anchor and stayed in the water to watch out how people were snorkeling so they wouldn't swim too far. I'm a beginner in this so when I jumped into the water for the first time, I lost my newly bought mask. I freaked out quite a bit. It's the open ocean and the bottom of the ocean below me wasn't even visible. Jim was super nice and helped me to get back on the boat to calm down and get another mask. After this little creepy moment, I felt just fine and enjoyed snorkeling. So if you are not a super good swimmer (BTW you must know how to float at least), it still is pretty safe with a good crew to take care of you. If yelp had 6 stars, I would give them all 6. The tour is worth every penny. Highly recommended! Oh, on the way back when the catamaran arrives at the dock, keep tips handy. You may think it's not as appropriate as at the restaurant or a hair salon but it totally is. read more

I booked the Na Pali Coast sunset tour with the Holo Holo Charters last week. There were 4 of us and this was not our first time on a boat. My husband and I go sailing very often in San Diego, Long Beach, California and in New Caledonia, but this tour was a big disappointment. Little that we knew though that it was going to be one of the worst experiences that we have ever had on a boat. First of all the tour leaves from Port Allen (south-west of the island) which is way too far from the Na Pali Coast, so you spend 3/4 of the time driving there. Out of the 3 and 1/2 hours we've spent only 25-35 minutes at the Na Pali Coast. There are other tours leaving from the northern part of the island, so if you are planning to see the Na Pali Coast do yourself a favor and reserve one of those. Secondly, the boat that we took was a motor boat, not a sailing boat, so we inhaled a lot of smoke from the engine and the ride was very rough. We were all ordered to sit in the back where we couldn't see almost anything, except a huge stairway leading to the driving cabin. Thirdly, our captain - an immature lunatic of Scandinavian descent - found it entertaining to give us a roller coaster ride to our destination. For about 2 hours he drove the 65 feet catamaran full speed, on an already rough ocean, occasionally pushing the breaks very hard in order to create the "jump-in-the air effect". The passengers were screaming their lungs off every time the huge boat was landing back on the water, but in spite of their terror he continued to do it. There were two elderly couples on the boat (in their late 70s early 80s) and some children who were throwing up continuously, but he couldn't care less. We all ended up with bruises and back pain. The narrative part of the cruise was O.K. and so was the food, but nobody could enjoy any of it anymore because we were all dizzy and lightheaded from the ride. read more

We did the seven hour Niihau Napali super tour and had a great time. The staff and captain were friendly and made an effort to help out any way they could. The views of the coast were amazing and the captain even pulled right up to some of the many sea caves. The breakfast and lunch were both good as well and the only downside was the snorkeling spot which could have had more fish. I've been right off the shore on Kauai and seen way more fish at several locations. Overall I definitely recommend this tour. read more

I booked the 7-hour Niihau Napali Super Tour for my husband's birthday. We saw dolphins and whales along with some magnificent views of the Napali Coast. Personally, I didn't think the snorkeling trip to Niihau was worth the extra time. There weren't many fish or any that we haven't seen from other snorkeling spots on the island. We did see a turtle which was a plus. Btw, you can bring your own snorkeling gear. The continental breakfast was your typical hot beverages, coffee cakes, croissants and fruits. I was a bit disappointed with the lunch. It was-make-your-own sandwich, pasta salad and veggie plates. I would have much preferred a Hawaiian lunch. I asked one of the crew member, Emily, if we can sing happy birthday after the tour for my husband. She said yes. As we were docking, I reminded her again and she said "oh sorry, I forgot, but you can do yourself now if you want to". OK...if I wanted to instigate myself, I wouldn't have asked you and you shouldn't have agreed. Oh well..it would have been nice. Overall, we still had a fun and relaxing day. read more

The thought of getting up super early in the morning did not appeal to me AT ALL. All for a morning cruise that we had already had seen half of (we'd already done a tour of the Na Pali coast a few years earlier). So knowing all this, I was only a little excited for this outing. It was going be a 5-6 hour cruise on a twin engine catamaran that gave us a tour of Kaua'i's Na Pali coast, Lehua Island, snorkeling, and Ni'ihau (what they call their Na Pali & Ni'ihau Super Tour). What got me interested, and on the boat, was the last part about getting to see Ni'ihau. After it was all said and done I actually had a really good time on the cruise. I think ultimately what made it more enjoyable was that it was a really nice day and that there were a lot of family members in our party. Here are the pros and cons of the trip: PROS -Weather--We got really lucky with the weather the day we went out on our cruise. It was bright and sunny with normal wind conditions. Ocean conditions were also favorable that day as well with no choppiness on the water. -Food--They really provide a great spread of food for you on the voyage. Since we had a morning voyage we got both a breakfast meal and a lunch meal. For breakfast they had bagels, assorted pasteries, fruit, and water/juice/soda. For lunch they provided a sandwich bar spread with a bunch of different coldcuts and vegetables--but than other cruises. On the way back to the port they also offer alcohol and cookies. -Service--By far one of the best things about our trip was that the crew of our boat were very conscientious and attentive to the needs of the passengers. The entire time they always stressed safety and knew what to do when people weren't feeling good. Not only did they know what to do, but they handled it very well and in ways where you didn't feel embarrassed to be sick. They knew what to do and how to do it. They also were funny and knew how to make the trip fun as well. (Capt Chris, Tucker, Robert, David) -Fauna--The amount of wildlife we got to see on this trip was awesome. As with the weather we got super lucky again and saw monk seals, dolphins, and a number of fish when we went snorkeling. -Sights--Even though I had seen Na Pali previously, it was actually good to see it and take pictures while not constantly bobbing around a zodiac. With the catamaran there was more freedom to move around and experience the views and natural beauty that was all around. -The Boat--The boat had three different sections and you could basically choose the type of ride experience that you wanted to have. There was up front on the boat where the tarps were you got a great view of everything, the only catch, while moving it was the wettest area on the boat. You had the back end of the boat, supposedly the most stable area of the boat. And then you had the cabin area which was shaded, close to the food, but the most unstable area on the boat. CONS -Weather--The weather is a double-edged sword and you take a gamble whenever you do outdoor activities as you and the mercy of mother nature. Fortunately as I have mentioned we had wonderful weather. However, my parents mentioned that last year when they took this tour that they never made it to Ni'ihau because of rough sea conditions in the channel. My uncle also mentioned something similar happening to him as well. The crew does have contingency plans/courses if the weather is bad, but it's definitely not going to be as good as it can be. Also, if it's sunny, wear sunscreen. -Fauna--Along the same lines as weather, seeing animals on your voyage involves a little bit of luck and you may go without seeing any. -Motion/Sea sickness--Going on this cruise is a good way to figure out if you get sea sick or not as you definitely feel the up and down on the water. If you know you get sea sick, DON'T GO on this voyage. If you're afraid you might, be sure to take motion sickness medicine BEOFRE you get on the boat. Even then I would bring extra just in case. Ginger candy can also help once you start feeling seasick. There were definitely a few people who got seasick on our voyage, but the crew took care of them extremely well. On the whole there weren't any real negatives to this trip. Perhaps if the weather wasn't as good or if we didn't really see any wildlife I might consider not giving them five stars. However, I'm trying to base my review of what the crew did and the experience that they provided. With their high level of service that they provided, it was an easy decision to give them five stars. read more

What a great trip!! The captain and his 2 man crew were fantastic. The crew were all very attentive and always made sure we had a drink in our hand. They made their rounds often and made sure everyone on board was comfortable. I never felt like I waited too long for a drink or for someone to come by and ask me if I needed anything. I wasn't expecting a whole lot for food, but I was surprised at how good the food tasted. Considering it had been sitting warm for a few hours before it was served, it ended up being quite an enjoyable meal. I highly suggest taking this tour through the Na Pali coast. The sights and scenery is something you need to experience while in Kauai. The Captain also turned off the ship so that we were all able to enjoy the sunsetting and even played a good song to enjoy the moment. Not a single thing was missed during our voyage. The captain also played the theme from Jurassic Park when we got to the cliffs that were made famous by the movie. If you are lucky enough, the weather might also work in your favor. Thankfully the weather was perfect while we were out at sea. It only started to rain when we were near the end of our tour as we got closer to the dock. Overall a very enjoyable trip. read more

This was one of the best experiences in Kauai that I had. It can be a long drive depending on where your hotel is, but it is worth the drive. Our Captain and crew were so friendly and nice and everyone felt truly taken care of. Our tour included snorkeling, which was pretty neat, but honestly, if it wasn't included, I wouldn't be upset. We went around the island and up the Na Pali coast. Along the way, the crew talk us stories and pointed out interesting places. We even stopped to look for whales! We got up close to a cave waterfall, and there were plenty of opportunities for pics. Going up the Na Pali coast was truly amazing, and a definitely must see by boat and plane. The food served was the standard sandwiches, and you could drink as much beer as you wanted. There was plenty of seating for everyone aboard. The only bummer was that the tour was running late, so we hauled ass going back to port and it got SUPER bumpy and rough. I'd say most people on the boat got some sort of sea sickness which really sucks, BUT I'm willing to overlook that since the rest of the experience was incredible. read more

We saw three different pods of dolphins, lots of flying fish, sea turtles, other fish and even a whale way out in the distance. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Kauai. Awesome tour guides, very relaxed yet made sure we were safe and comfortable the whole time. They were incredibly hospitable and knowledgable about the area. The snacks they provide where tasty and it was nice having 'adult beverages' on the way back. =P Bring a jacket! It can be chilly on the ride back when you are wet from snorkeling! read more

The crew, Glen, Joshua and Jake were awesome and apparently we got lucky with a smooth sail, seen whales, dolphins, turtles and while snorkeling, a sighting of a shark and swimming with the seals. Abstract: The 5 hour Na Pali coast catamaran ("Leila") tour was a phenomenal experience! We got a great deal thru Costco; Cap'n Kelly is my new hero (her crew were pretty neat too); I know more about Dolphins than ever before; I can tell you an old Hawaiian tale about a couple of the mountain peaks; I didn't get burned or sick; I got to see where they filmed some of Jurassic Park! I'm so grateful. The trip was worth every penny! This trip was fantastic! Every moment from booking to the very last "Aloha" was a delightful experience. We arrived a little late (embracing that "Hawaiian time") but everyone was really cool about it. We signed in, hung out and then were briefed about the trip in a straightforward comedic fashion. We boarded catamaran Leila after a word from Cap'n Kelley. The weather couldn't have been more gracious with warm sun and light winds providing easy waters. There actually wasn't enough wind to sail so instead we just toured a bit more of the coast. Snorkeling was awesome! They had all the equipment I needed (you can also bring your own). I slid in (feet first!) off the slide into surprisingly warm water. They offered optional snorkel tips which I forfeited for more swim time. I regret that now because I wish I would have dove down instead of just floating about (I don't snorkel; didn't know). Still saw a TON of cool marine life! After, we had snacks and drinks (pumpkin bread, fruit, coffee, tea, etc) then proceeded to the Na Pali coast. The CREW were fantastic. Personable and so knowledgable, they had something to say about everything on shore and in the water (we saw sleeping flipper Dolphins!). Lunch was "make yourself a sammich" with a variety of meats and produce. Plenty of delicious food and drinks. The crew were always right there to refill or take your empties away. Upon return we found that my sister's flop had mysteriously disappeared off the shoe cart but it was quickly recovered by one of the crew. We had THE best time on this boat trip! The crew was awesome with tons of stories about the island. NaPali is georgous and should not be missed! There were dolphins swimming next to us, we got to drop anchor and snorkel in a beautiful little serene cove, and on the way back, the captian cut the engines and put up the sails and we were on the open water in total silence! It was so peaceful and fun! THe kids loved riding on the trampolines on the way back too when the water got rough, they had a blast! The food was great, and again - the crew was super nice and made sure everyone had everything they needed. This boat trip was well worth it and I am very glad we took the time to do it. read more

Super fab customer service from the crew. Great views while sailing and everything you need(food, booze, snorkeling gear, and even ginger candy for those who get seasick) they pretty much provide. I'm giving holoholo 4 stars instead of 5 because the snorkeling portion was kinda eehhhh for me. I expected to see a variety fish but the place where they took us was kinda barren until they started feeding the fish. I loved the sailing and cruising portion of the ride, for me it was very relaxing no seasickness at all! read more

We did the sunset dinner sail and it was phenomenal. The crew was extremely professional and we had one crew member who gave us the history of the coast along with other fun facts. Dinner buffet and drinks are all very good, but I wasn't there for the food so didn't pay that much attention, however the fish/pork tacos were fine for me. I chose this boat because I read that it is a bit less crowded than the others (SO true, we saw other boats totally packed), and that it is a true sailing catamaran. Unfortunately there was very little wind so we didn't get the sails up, but the captain took us for a longer trip and got us very close to the waterfalls and gorgeous scenery. I get seasick very easily, and I'm so glad I took Dramamine. I highly recommend this company. read more

I wish Yelp had a bonus star for this company! Let's start off with the beautiful (hot) Captain Amy. She isn't consumed with her looks, She was professional, courteous, and made the cruise fun. The crew, a young blonde man and young Hawaiian girl were amazing! They never missed a beat. Serving drinks, preparing breakfast and lunch, raising and lowering the sails, giving informational speeches, caring for the sea sick people. And they did it with a smile. Bravo to the entire team. Oh, I took the 5 hour cruise to the Nepali coast. Again, Amazing. Don't miss this cruise with Holo Holo. I will be back in the summer for another cruise. read more

Amazing and informative! Captain Greg(?) was wonderful! The crew Jacob and Shaqeda (?) were also five star! The apps and taco dinner was also fabulous. I've done this sail 3 times with others and this was by far the best one! Whales, sea turtles and dolphins sighted. The Captain was full of information and history, he also took us into a sea cave. Overall fabulous experience and the highlight of our vacation! read more
