We made reservations for our anniversary on a whim and I am so glad we did. This is a small hidden away gem. I am so glad that we finally got to try it! The food was delicious. First you are served garlic bread with dipping sauces which the bread bey itself is delicious but add in the dipping sauces and it's insane!! i wish there were more than 4 pieces but given the portion sizes of the rest of our meal, I'm glad there wasn't more. For appetizers we had the fried calamari. I am not a huge calamari eater, but I will say it was fresh and not rubbery. The marinara sauce was very complimentary to the calamari without being overwhelming. For entrees we both had the rib eye steaks. My husband had the garlic mashed potatoes and I had the roasted both were excellent potato choices. The steak was seasoned perfectly. It was tender and cooked perfectly. The steaks were so large that neither of us finished ours. I also really enjoyed adding the dipping sauces from the breads to my steak. It was awesome with our without it but loved the dipping sauces! My only suggestion was I would appreciate my water glass being checked on and not having to ask for it to be refilled. My husband and I went to The Holstein Grill around 4:30 PM on a Sunday without a reservation and we were met cordially by the hostess who, fortunately for us, found us a table for two. We started out by sharing the fried calamari appetizer which was light and crispy on the outside and tender and tasty on the inside. The house made marinara sauce was a welcome addition. Our Caesar salads were fresh and flavorful. I particularly liked the shaved parmigiana cheese on top. For our entrees, I had the rack of lamb, cooked just the way I asked for it, medium. I loved the au jus which added an another dimension to the flavor. The lamb was tender and tasty. My husband had the 12 once filet mignon rare. He was so pleased that it was served exactly as he asked for it. He raved that the filet was absolutely PERFECT! It was so tender that it practically melted in his mouth. He truly enjoyed every bite. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance was dark and quiet. We both agree that we can't wait to return to The Holstein Grill Steak House for another meal. This is a nice little spot not too big, but comfortable, with easy parking and reasonable prices. The steak was fresh, juicy, and really good. It did take a little while for the food to come out, but honestly, it was worth the wait. I ordered mashed potatoes, and I wish they had told me sooner that they ran out instead of waiting until right before my food came out to ask me to choose another side. This darling little eatery was bustling but we got in without a reservation. Parking was fine. Ambiance was modern and inviting. I was looking forward to a fine cut of meat but can't finish big portions so settled on the signature Holstein sandwich. It's steak on the best crusty baguette ever. The house aioli was perfect. Had AMAZING garlic bread and their two signature sauces with my salad. Make sure you do the crème brûlée for the dessert. Note: I didn't finish the bread of my sandwich because I had some as my starter and needed the dessert. First the food was excellent however the service was so poor on so many levels it overshadowed the food by far. There were 4 waitresses running around like chickens for the tiny restaurant. We had a 530pm reservation and once we sat we had to ask someone to take our drink order after about 10 minutes. We ordered vodka martinis which were first brought in literal shot glasses with olives. We explained that is not a martini and they corrected it bringing a 1/2 full martini glass - totally disappointing and clearly no bartender. Just these 4 women running around confused but at the same time Not doing anything. The waitress finally came Back and asked to take our menus. We had to say we hadn't ordered yet,, the waitress was confused why we hadn't placed it yet - because no one has come over .... Salads came followed by entrees. Everyone had an empty drink but no waitress stopped to ask if we wanted another round or even to ask how the food was. The waitresses didn't seem to have set tables to take care of, so no one knew what the other was doing or what needed to be done. Having extensive knowledge of hospitality it was painful to watch tables get pitchers of sangria and no glasses, only having to point out to the person who just dropped the pitcher and ran that there are no glasses or to hear the mistakes happening at every surrounding table. No manager in site. When someone finally cleared the entree plates she said, 'you didn't want dessert right?' And then just gave us the check. (Honestly after the service we didn't want dessert). The loss of money for the restaurant was disappointing too - no offering of more drinks, zero attempt to sell desserts .... This place could easily be fixed if there was some management or someone to direct the chickens. read more

The food was outstanding and prices are wonderful. We had the prime rib, filet mignon, and shrimp cocktail appetizer - all were wonderful. While the service was very friendly, it was inefficient. The main waiter is also the bartender, host, and answers the phone. If she is making cappuccinos for another table, nothing else gets done so it can be a little frustrating. It is a small restaurant and can understand staffing costs, but they need one dedicated real bartender to make drinks and answer the phone - not the waitress. I am writing to report a very disappointing experience during my recent visit to your restaurant. My group and I were seated and noticed immediately that our table was consistently ignored compared to others around us. While nearby tables received frequent check-ins, refills, and friendly conversation, our server only approached us twice during the entire meal. We were supposed to receive a salad that never arrived. We also requested water, which was never brought out. Meanwhile, other guests who arrived after us received noticeably better and more attentive service. It was uncomfortable because we were the only Hispanic guests in the area, and it felt like we were being ignored while others were treated much better. This place needs to go to Uncle Guiseppi's or Wegmans to see what quality of meats should be like. Their small thin steak leaves alot to be desired. I left there place hungry. You say well done and they needed to cook it at least 3 x before they got the message. By then my husband already finished his dinner. The potatoes were horrible!! Get back to making mashed potatoes with heavy cream the real way. not potato wedges. We're american, make an american meal. The service was ok, the chairs were very uncomfortable and the server kept apologizing for the inconvenience. Go get some real steaks even if it cost you more money, at least you will get repeat customers because we are not going back there and would not recommend this place. This took place 3 months ago. I made a reservation online for brunch for today for my family of 7 plus our 4 month old granddaughter. It was the end of a wonderful celebration weekend for my husband's 60th birthday. I looked at their brunch menu online and it looked great! I called on Friday to confirm we were all set and were told they had no record of my online reservation. I offered to share the online confirmation number I received and they said "no problem...let's just make the reservation over the phone now". That should have been the first sign! Then this morning, the restaurant called 1/2 hour before our reservation time to be sure we were coming and asked which menu we wanted. I replied brunch but said they could put the regular menu out too just in case anyone wanted to order from it. We arrive and the place was completely empty (maybe should have been the second sign), we sit down and ask for the brunch menu. Waitress informs us that they no longer offer brunch because no one was asking for it. I explain that it says brunch on their sign on their building, on their website with the brunch menu posted AND brunch is even advertised on their regular menu that they gave all of us!! All the server said was "yes, I know, we should change that"! Since both our adult sons had 4 hour drives ahead of them to go home after we ate, I decided to just switch gears and go with it and not leave (YET) The server said we do have some lunch specials. We said "great" please bring the specials menu over. She walks away and then says "sorry--specials are only for Monday- Friday"! Again, for convenience sake, we decided to still stay. My mother in law orders a coffee and then I ask for a decaf coffee (not an unusual request for a restaurant) and I was told "we don't have decaf"!! That's when my family was done trying to make this work and we left and went to the Holbrook Diner (it was super close by---we've never been to this diner--- and it was wonderful!!) They even had an extensive brunch menu!! As far as Holstein Grill Steak House, I can't comment on the food, as we decided not to stay, but based on our experience, we would never, ever go back!! With so many restaurant options, I suggest not giving a place that falsely advertises something they don't even offer (ie brunch) and aren't even honest about it when I called to inquire!
