Shrimp cocktail
Brooke R.

For an appetizer we started with shrimp cocktail which was nothing to rave about and I would probably skip on next visit. I also ordered the Sirloin with potatoes which was well-seasoned, charred to perfection, and cooked with care to achieve a flavorful, tender result. Cozy dining atmosphere, making it perfect for special occasions like anniversaries, or a dinner date. This place is kind of hidden and easy to miss if you're not paying attention, located behind Ralph's Italian ices. The staff were attentive and friendly which was to be expected as we had the place to ourselves for a while. Definitely worth stopping by and giving a try!

Ribeye steak

We went to this restaurant on Saturday evening for my birthday. Everything was perfect. I ordered the ribeye steak. It was absolutely delicious. Juicy and very tasty. My husband ordered the meat platter for one. Everything was outstanding!! We recommend the homemade sangria. The ambience the service everything was perfect. We will definitely be back.

First time experience at Holsteins in Ronkonkoma was very good! Birthday dinner for Husband. The food was good and presented beautifully on the plates. This is a small and cozy restaurant...we liked the ambiance! Awesome Sangria made with lots of fresh fruit! The service was on point.. Overall a good experience and a very enjoyable dinner.

On top of that the band was so loud we had to scream to talk even sitting all the way at the second to last table in the back. Between the warm, cozy atmosphere and a live band playing, it felt festive without being chaotic. It's exactly what you want during the holidays. We went full "let's share everything" mode, starting with the Wood-Fired Artichoke-Spinach Dip Pizzetta, and wow. Spinach, artichokes, béchamel, shaved parm, mozzarella, garlic dressing, and baby arugula all working together in perfect harmony. Easy 10/10. I'm still thinking about it and already planning my next visit just to order it again. Next up was the crab rangoon dip, which was rich, indulgent, and dangerously good. Followed by the beer cheese jumbo pretzel. They wee soft, salty, and exactly what you want alongside drinks. Zero regrets. We wrapped things up with the Kung Pao Cauliflower Bites, and they were such a pleasant surprise. The tempura cauliflower stayed crispy, the General Tso's-style sauce had just the right balance of sweet and heat, and the cashews, sesame seeds, and scallions added great texture. Drink-wise, we shared a bottle of wine from their solid selection, but I also have to shout out their massive cocktail menu, so many options that I'll definitely be back to explore it properly next time. The cherry on top? We made our reservation on Yelp . Between the food, drinks, live music, and overall atmosphere, Husk and Vine was a total win for a night out. Can't wait to return!

Our waiter Josue was extremely attentive The ambiance in the restaurant is lovely - many people were celebrating special occasions and it's understandable as it is beautiful both inside and out. We decided to go with the $69 diner special in order to try a variety of the menu. Our meal consisted of the garlic shrimp skillet, Mt. Fuji roll, petite filet mignon, marinated skirt steak, Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The shrimp skillet was a major hit- he ate every last bit of it. My sushi was super fresh and flavorful. My only complaint was that they put tobiko on top of the roll. It wasn't listed in the ingredients and there was so much, it was not easy to remove. But that is literally my only complaint of the entire meal. Our steaks were so tender and flavorful, plus cooked perfectly. Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes were the perfect side dishes - creamy and ultra flavorful. The Insignia donut and chocolate mousse cake were brought out with a sparkler for excellent presentation. This place isn't trying for polished restaurant experience, and honestly, that's kinda part of its charm. It feels like the kind of spot where the bar comes first and the kitchen supports it if this makes sense. The atmosphere is a neighborhood hangout feel. You can tell it's a local spot--people walking in were greeted by name, and there's a familiar, lived-in vibe that makes it feel welcoming if you're a regular, and easy enough to settle into if you're not. Food-wise, the corned beef on both the Gaiety and the Finnegan's Wake sandwiches stood out--tender, flavorful, and generous. Both sandwiches came with fries, and while I appreciate skin-on fries, these leaned a bit soggy rather than crispy. Overall, this is a solid spot if you go in with the right expectations. It's less of a destination restaurant and more of a go-to pub where you can grab a drink, and enjoy pub food. If you're looking for a lively, casual bar with good portions and a strong local following, it delivers--even if not everything on the plate is perfect. I think I'd like to make an update review after trying a few more dishes. At a glance, 3.5 with overall good experience.

Service - 4/5 - friendly and attentive. Ambiance - 3/5 - nice vibe with open fire, slightly tacky and dark. Overall - 4/5 - this is one of those places that is worth visiting once then probably not again. Everything was good but for the price you can get equally as good food at a budget. Food was really good, particularly the Wild Boar Gnocchi Ragu & Pistachio Cake, both easily worth a try. Service was great as well. Friendly, attentive, some conversation there, was good service. Ambiance was a mixed bag. While the indoors is really nice with a cool open flame, it can be dark inside and a little tacky (easy 4 if it wasn't as dark). Definitely worth a visit at one point but not as a regular spot. Best Dish - Wild Boar Ragu Gnocchi, Pistachio Cake Would Return - Probably not

Mixed feelings. So…read moremany friends have spoken so highly of this place that I felt we HAD to give it a try. They also cautioned about the price so, after selling off an inherited Monet, off we went! Umbra is in a nondescript strip mall with a Thai place next door. Dark, front-facing windows give it a chic look but... oh no... fake flowers. Normally, not a big deal but for a place known for being upscale, it seemed incongruous for the vibe. More on that later. Inside was cool and urban chic. Long bar gives view of their famous oven. Seating was comfortable enough though the artificial flowers and grapes (circa 1984 Patchogue's Fantasy Gardens) detracted. I get that they're trying to do an Italian countryside thing but it seemed forced. The food was a mixed bag. Wagyu tartar with quail egg was pretty awesome; rich, minerally, unctuous. So far so good. Cocktail was tasty and the wine was fine. But then... Wife got a pasta dish that she was happy with. She found it to be very good but not exemplary. I ordered the veal osso buco which was a tremendous disappointment. The bed of risotto was terrific but it seemed like they simply placed several (small) medallions of veal in the middle surrounding a tiny bone and then dropped sauce all over it. I'm a grown man and have faced all sorts of disappointments in my life (being an Islanders fan conditions you to this) but I kinda wanted to cry when that came to the table. I've had osso buco other places and this plate fell well short. (I actually was arguing with a friend who is a tremendous fan of Umbra and, when I showed him the pic, he fell silent. I included pics of two other osso bucos for comparison). Friends had mentioned that the steaks are really good here but I kinda go to steak joints for steaks, ya dig? They make their own pasta so maybe I should have chosen one of those dishes. Affogato for dessert which was less than what I was expecting but is (according to friend in the know) the classic and traditional preparation so no real complaints there. The service was very good, however. Both our waitress and the bartender/sommelier were attentive, friendly and well-informed. All-in-all, a nice place. A VERY nice place. But I think it's a tad overpriced and overhyped for what it is. We usually like to give a spot a second or third try but at the price point, probably not. Give it a shot if you've got money to burn but be aware of the cost and that some things may fall short of your expectations.

Seeing they had a Wednesday special, I decided to put off my adventure from Roslyn to Ronkonkoma from Monday to Wednesday. I also found a bunch of things I was interested in to pad my experience and make the drive worth it. The waitress came quickly, got our drink orders, took a few minutes, and we started our order. I started off by getting the Fire Island Fries, the Flanagan's Nachos minus Jalapenos and Chipotle Ranch, sub the chicken in, the Fish and Chips special with additional pay for French Onion Soup and Curry sauce, and my friend got the Penne Alla Vodka add chicken. I asked how the Mozzarella sticks were and she said they were very popular so I got those as well. We'll start with my addition. The mozzarella sticks are good. Fried properly, not raw, not burnt, you get I believe 9 in an order. I greatly enjoyed them, however I would never pay more than a buck for a small brick of cheese. They were great, but not that great. The nachos were very barebones, something getting them at full capacity wouldn't have done much for. The queso is gross, and put me off from eating too much. The avocado was a single, sliced avocado which is fine, but pretty hard to eat with chips. The chicken was a bit of an issue, not tasting great. The fire island fries were good, I enjoyed the flavor change, but I feel like some cheddar would have made them from "good" to "amazing". Adding cheddar to my leftovers later confirmed that. The french onion soup was the shiniest turd I've had the experience of eating. It is the best of the worst, in every way. The cheese tastes a bit off, the broth did't have much flavor or salt, the onions were sour, and overall it looks tremendous, proper quality, but tasted like I was eating expired progresso with some sour cheese melted over it. I love proper French Onion soup, but this was very difficult to force myself to eat. The penne alla vodka was fine, but they could have added more salt, it just felt a little bland. The chicken was hard and dry. It didn't work with the dish itself, it felt like eating two different things at once, neither of them tasting as good as they should. The fish and chips were the real star. The fish was as crunchy as you expect, the chips were proper chips. The curry was hot but delicious, everything was absolutely fantastic. If I was reviewing on the fish and chips alone, this place would absolutely get five dtars. But they need to work on the other areas of their menu, they're heavily dragging this place down. I also got the donut with ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. A donut from dunkin would have been better in my opinion, and you would save $10 assembling everything yourself. Finally, the service. It was very here and there. At first, we were getting checked up on often, but at the end, there was a good 20 minute stint where they wouldn't show up at our table and we had to flag them over to get our check. I'm not rating this against them, but I would have liked a little more observation. It was a one and done place, with excellent fish and chips this side of the pond. If I was closer, this would be a Wednesday night thing, but I'm too far to justify that.

What is truly unacceptable is the restaurants complete lack of concern afterwards. I made them aware of what happened, and despite the seriousness of the injury, the showed no accountability and no willingness to compensate. They told me they would not compensate for any of the medical bills that I have incurred. This raises serious concerns about their food safety standards, and how they treat customers when things go wrong. In this case their was clearly wrong doing on their part. Having never been here but using Yelp as my foodie guide, with its high star rating, I somehow missed that this establishment is prixe fixed so you cannot order a La carte anything. I honestly wish I had read more reviews instead of focusing on just the high-star rating. Anyway, the prize fixed menu includes appetizer, main entree, dessert and coffee for $38.95 with up charges for specific items that are clearly marked. Of course, both myself and my hubby chose entrees (veal parmigiana and meat lasagna) with a $5.95 up charge for each. On this Friday night, there was live music. It was very fitting for this Italian restaurant with its cozy Italian bistro/cafe atmosphere. It made it feel like date night. Hearing the music in the background was very enjoyable. Now the food, which came out in a nice even pace so we were not rushed. The appetizers of baked clams and eggplant rollatine were good. My veal parmigiana was absolutely delicious and prepared perfectly. My hubby's meat lasagna was good but in comparison to my dish it missed the mark. The desserts & coffee were fine, but certainly nothing overly special. I'm the person who looks at dessert first because I look forward to that extra special thing at the end of the meal. Overall a nice dinner out with my hubby.
